    Mine intonates roughly fine - no big deal. I'm more in tune than Hendrix! I wish they'd chosen a better amp - if you really want to hear an early goldtop, you'll have to watch a different video...

    I own an original 54’ with the Bigsby (dealer option )and a reissue wrap around, that is interchangeable-original case. Plays great.
    Neat video

    Great guitar, great playing, I guess I run a fender deluxe and can’t relate to the sound of that classic Gibson amp. I’d like to hear what a vintage 54 would would like through an everyday gigging amp.

    I have one of these that was kept under a bed almost all it's life! It hardly has any Crack lines in it. All original !
    Has one little ding in it. Looks almost brand new. Looks WAY better than your example!

    How do you intonate the bridge on this baby, I guess you don’t . That’s my question

    • @AdmiralQuality
      @AdmiralQuality 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are grub screws that push against the back of the bridge studs that let you adjust the string length at each end. As for the middle you just have to go with it.

    • @AdmiralQuality
      @AdmiralQuality 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      And there are modern reissue wrap-around bridges with staggered intonation built in. But they have a sharp edge the strings sit on as opposed to the smooth top of the originals. And those smooth saddle tops give you twang. That's where the Tele's twang comes from too and why it stopped being as twangy when they switched to the "threaded" saddles in '58. My theory is that the string is free to rotate and roll a bit to either side on smoothly rounded saddles and that additional mode of vibration contributes to "twanginess".

    Amazing how you paired it with the GA-75, im use to seeing some form of tweed or plexi. Really cool sound

    Cool, but i think you forgot an important detail here. These 1950 something Gold Tops had a somewhat transparent Gold Top. You can clearly see the flamed maple top underneath, while the usual modern Gold Tops are featuring an non transparent Gold Top.
    I was already wondering how somebody could actually hide a stunning beautiful flamed maple top underneath a Gold Top. I mean, what a waste?
    Now i understand that those early Gold Tops were not varnished with a solid Gold colour. This is ofcourse much more attractive and by the time, if you had some knowledge, you knew what you've got for the premium you had to pay for.
    Nowadays the Gold Tops are varnished with an intransparent gold finish and as a result, you have no clue, what kind of maple was used for the top. And that comes on top of the type of varnish used. The guitar shown here has the typical nitro varnish cracks, as typical for Les Pauls of this age. Today i assume the formula of the varnish used has changed. They will most probably not crack at the same age, but the tone of the guitar will be inferior.

    • @jorge.rubiales
      @jorge.rubiales 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not really, the stripes you see is the checking in the nitro lacquer. If you do your research, you'll find that goldtops of this era (as VOS goldtops now too) are sprayed twice with a solution of nitrocellulose and copper powder. This makes the finish completely solid, and it was like that from the first '54 goldtops. Nitro formula has indeed changed because of environmental health issues, and most people agree that nitro finish today is more durable than vintage ones. However, its influence in tone cannot be quantified.

That’s funny, I thought this was a free country and a public venue for posting thoughts and comments. Maybe mind your damn business a little more? Maybe have better taste? @@monsieurshade4104 After reading your reply, I chose to reevaluate my comment by watching the video again. Twice. I noticed multiple 5E3's (or clones), a JCM, a vox AC, a bluesbreaker, a divided by 13, and a
      princeton among the other amps in the room. I understand if they wanted brand matching period correct pieces, but that combination did neither piece any favors. It's quite literally the worst amp in the room. By the way, Monsieur Shade, are you really french? Is that really the destination of a tone quest in France? Perhaps you'd be better served throwing shade at your peers in homeroom Monday morning.
