The more I watch, the more it becomes apparent that Tim Gunn knows how to make others feel valued. He does this in the shows. He is the confidante. He is the coach. He is good at it because he deeply cares about people. He has great charm, but it comes to life because he has heart.
I love Tim Gunn. He is so smart and interesting to listen to
so perfectly said. I'm watching reruns of Project Runway and love how he's so kind to everyone.
On Project Runway I see him as a good Role Model. He treats all the designers equally as if they all are his children plus most of all when each designer has to pack there items to go home he always always gives them encouraging words that is very motivational. Therefore it appears they Love him dearly.How wonderful that is. 🙂
I met Tim Gunn at a book signing many years ago at the Smithsonian in DC. When I walked up to meet him, he so politely looked me in the eye, smiled, shook my hand and complimented me on my jacket. When I requested a photo, he posed as though we were best friends. It was as though the pleasure in meeting every fan was truly mutual. This man is a grounded class act all the way around.
Wish he would write a book on his life...even better, an Audiobook w/him reading
He did write a memoire, but it was framed as sort of an etiquette book. I loved it and am always on the brink of repurchasing it. It was called Gunn's Golden Rules: Life's Little Lessons for Making It Work

I can’t even describe the amount of love and respect I have for Tim Gunn
We met Tim years ago at a fashion show at our local Dillard's. I brought my then 7th-grade stepdaughter, who that very day had been "dress coded" for wearing "spaghetti straps." When we stood in line for pictures, Tim was incredibly gracious and attentive. We asked him what he thought about her "spaghetti straps" and he very smartly and diplomatically said, "That is *hardly* spaghetti. It's more like a fettucini. It's a big enough piece of pasta and you look completely appropriate!" She was so uplifted by his sweet comments. What a supremely classy man!
My youngest daughter decided in middle school that she wanted to attend Parsons because of Project Runway. The early years of that show were so inspiring! When she got her acceptance letter, we all nearly had a heart attack. As a rising junior at Parsons, she is getting a terrific education, and we're so proud. I dream that she'll bump into Tim in the city so she can thank him for his large role in inspiring her.
I'm just getting introduced to Kara - what a doll! So warm and inviting and a female version of Tim, it seems!

As someone who was privately schooled among the wealthy on the east coast, then found her comfort in the midwest, I appreciate the clarity of Tim's presentation of himself. He considers it, but doesn't let it interfere with his truth. My experience living on the east coast was repeated falsehoods. In the midwest, people were so straightforward that it took me aback. Tim is balanced and sincere, but is completely charming.

I'm watching Project Runway Juniors, 2015 I believe and I've never watched this one before, anyhow I wondered how he was doing and this popped up. Tim seems like a sweet, down to earth, funny and kind man, I'm so glad to see he's okay and still around!

My heart aches for the little boy who grew up being bullied, with a father who stood by and did nothing. I'm tired of the saying, Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger. No, it doesn't. We all love Tim, but his child has played a role in the fact that he has not been in many romantic relationships.
Tim is a natural teacher and what I appreciated about the Project Runway Juniors was how they could listen to Tim's suggestions without ego, evaluate them as to how they fit with their vision, and take what they could use from them. I hope they managed to hold on to at least some. of that.

I love Tim so much, but the magic that happens when two soulmates are in such a groove as you two are, the end result is just pure magic!
I found it funny when the interviewer assumed the interaction with his former best friend was a creeper-type situation (“so he recognized you, he has been probably been following you all these years, and been like ‘This is my best friend Tim Gunn,’ but you hadn’t talked to him?) and then exclaims “How weird!”
To which the gracious Tim Gunn remarks, “And it was wonderful, I was so thrilled to see him” and proceeds to tell her his former best friend’s name, Craig Smith.
“Hi Greg!” she exclaims.

After knowing Tim all these years, I would’ve thought she’d know Tim Gunn is always so kind, he even opined, “It was as if time stood still.”
How wonderful! I feel like he is my friend who doesn't know me!

15:39 I felt this same way when I flew business class [NYC > Milan] for the first time. I had every glass of wine, every snack, every entree, every dessert. Now I will only fly business or first class. It's less about status and more about comfort.

I love Tim Gunn. I’ve read his book and I find him so relatable. He is a role model to me. We have a few things in common (my dad was in the FBI, I’m an educator and a Cancer sun sign, hate receiving gifts, lol)

Omigoodness. I love Tim being more himself than he always is. You can just see it on his face at times. Just love this man. Plus, he would absolutely adore my dad’s cousin who is 96, incredibly youthful, and lives on the upper east side. Just something about those two makes me think they would be great fun.

Your Schitt's Creek reference was a little off...David was working for the Blouse Barn and Wendy gave him a credit card to pay for items he bought for the store because the items would be a tax write off. David thought everything he bought was a write off. Anyway, this was a fantastic interview with the amazing Tim Gunn!
Yes, that's it! I couldn't remember exactly how it happened on Schitt's Creek; I thought I remembered him buying new sheets for his room and telling Johnny it's a tax write-off. Hilarious!

What a great interview/ conversation with 2 fascinating people. I had always felt a 'kinship/ connection to Mr Gunn. I discovered during the pandemic that i am an Empath and INFJ type personality. I feel Mr Gunn may be as well. We had similar experiences growing up but not in the same socioeconomic background. Small town Illinois boy here born in 1960. Gay, artistic, Garden Designer, personal assistant to disabled and elderly clients. Tim is someone to look up to!

Love your chats with Tim Gunn. Not big on the reality TV shows like Project Runway but love Tim Gunn! So refreshing to hear how he stands up to the blood suckers in Hollywood. not that this matters but as a second generation asian american i friggin LOVE the way tim gunn speaks!! his mannerisms, his cadence, his demeanor, the way he carries himself..everything about him is from top to bottom is absolutely fabulous. he just oozes charisma, charm and it's not because of his sexuality or anything like that. he is just such a pristine pristine man!!!
