I liked the lack of music because it doesn’t make light of seriousness of these weapons. It shouldn’t be a novelty, yes shooting guns can be fun but it’s still a serious and dangerous hobby.
I live in Vegas and I work at that Buffet! I can't believe I missed you guys. Big fan of Friday Night Magic series. I learn so much from you guys! Just want to say thank you to you all for what you do! Maybe next year I'll meet you guys!
As an American and hunter, I almost feel like I should apologize for the absolute tackiness of that range. Almost makes me ill... Anyway I've enjoyed watching your coverage though, GP's look like a hell of a lot of fun!
"After a full morning of discharging firearms, I'm going to finish my Dungeons and Dragons character." That's some pretty severe cultural whiplash there.
So, the reason they were so loud is because you guys were indoors, the enclosed space gives the shots a ton of reverb. An outdoor range tends to be a lot less loud/jarring. Also, this is really interesting to me as an american (and a gun owning one at that [I keep and maintain my family's collection]) how someone reacts to 'murican gun culture that wasn't raised around it. can't say I'm much surprised (my country is very messed up.)
Huge props and thanks to Graham and Alex from going outside of their comfort zone to shoot guns. A lot of people outside of the US never have the chance to do so, and while they may have left with a different experience than i had hoped im still glad they went. I competed across the country in shooting competitions when i was in high school, so its something i hold dear. Hope Vegas was fun you guys!
It depends what kind of shooting you want to do elsewhere in the world. There are lots of shooting clubs in Europe, and clay pigeon shooting is very popular in Britain, for example. If you want to go shooting at a range, it's relatively easy. Probably not as easy as in the USA, but still pretty easy.
I also literally just finished the previous vlog and then found that this one was up! Many years ago, a friend took me to an outdoor shooting range. We used his guns, and I got to fire birdshot out of a shotgun and rounds from .21 and a .34. I did much better with the .21 than I did the .34 and I only got one blast out of the shotgun before I decided it was not for me. I don't want to get too political here, but I have a complicated relationship with guns right now. My hubs wants us to take a gun safety course and get our licenses and I'm totally okay with that. But I don't want to actually _own_ a gun. I just want to know that if I ever do *need* to fire one, I can. Like driving a manual shift car.
Makes sense. Learning how to respectfully work with firearms doesn't mean you want to use a gun on another human. (Also it gets you ready for the inevitable zombie apocalypse.)
That's probably what I meant. It was over a decade ago, so I couldn't remember exactly. Which one is the small one in the 20s range that can be in rifle and in pistol form? It was that, and I shot with both.
I’ve lived in America my whole life and am very aware of gun culture and laws, but WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND beings their what look like less that ten your old kids to a gun range.
19:00 - ...Why am I watching this during Ramadan!?!?! LOL! I consistently end up watching excessive food videos during this month, even though I rarely do otherwise...
Graham did the Professor just steal the vlog away from you. I wish I could have had 3 hours of that. I did laughing from 30 seconds. great video Graham
In which Graham is introduced to two of the more 'murica slices of the States. I am personally very conflicted about gun ownership, but I do believe that (in most cases) no one can make an informed opinion about something without experiencing it first hand (obviously things like smallpox don't count here). Cheers!
SOLID Vlog, Graham. Lot of interesting stuff going on and some good montages of wackiness. Also props for cutting down the edgelord disclaimer. Thanks!
It is such an interesting view on people who didn't grow up shooting guns. I was doing competitions as a kid with shotguns and rifles, so hearing them talk about it being loud or sore shoulders makes me remember being a kid lol. Also I love you guys content, thanks for all you do.
Pro tip if/when you guys do Vegas again - multi-day bus passes are way cheaper than the cabs, and the busses run at all hours up and down the strip as well as off the strip to the rest of the town.
Love how everyone is semi fed up and annoyed with the Professors antics. he seems like over the top all the time. he makes good content though. He's a good guy.
I've been to one full-auto shoot in Oregon. Somone had a quad 50 cal antiaircraft mount on a truck there. There was also a 50 mm autocannon that had a cost of dollars per round - not dollars per loaded clip. My boss let me fire his AR-15 that he had converted to full auto 50 cal on his dime. That was the first time I had fired a fully auto weapon. As an enlisted member, the US Air Force never let me fire the M-16 with a .22 cal conversion kit more than single round at a time - not even 3-round burst. Couldn't stand the sights on that thing.
As someone from a country that doesn't really do guns (Denmark), there was something profoundly weird about choosing weapons and ammunitions from a menu like that. I mean, it makes sense, it was just a completely alien occurrence to me.
As an American, it's still fairly weird. As you said though: it makes complete sense given the context of where they were and what they were doing. But it's a weird thing to think about.
I really enjoy the edited-in 'high-speed heck-ups'. Clever and funny use of a probably-pretty-understandable-I'm-not-a-videographer-how-would-I-know mistake. EDIT: Also, best buffet in Vegas is probably (still) at The M.
Wow, 25 Minutes viedeo length and Alex has a cap that's not riped and shreded. You guys spoil us. And Wedge is ashamed of the Professor at the D&D panel. Great stuff.
I know that feeling of being at the firing range and jumping whenever a round is fired. The first time I went out and just heard a gun go off, it scared the shit out of me.
float by flogging molly - i only menton this because it took me 5 min to work out why it was so familiar. the music right at the end is a simplified version (or very similar to at least) of the violin refrain in float
The thing about the "Video Game" packages especially with a range that seems to want to appeal to people that don't normally go shooting is probably a nice handy thing to ask for so that they get guns they recognise. It seems odd on paper but for a range working with inexperienced people, it's a nice shorthand.
I cannot begin to imagine what a Metal Gear Solid package would look like, so long as they include a PSG-1 (feasibility of firing a sniper rifle indoors not withstanding)
Fired a gun for the first time in my life about 2 weeks ago. Fired a buddy's Mauser rifle, shoulder was sore for a few days, but it was a great deal of fun.
This amuses me greatly. Seeing you guys have your first experience. Much louder than portrayed in movies or games. Suppressors (silencers) just knock that down from damaging and painful to where you can fire without hearing protection.
So just a quick frame of reference for the shotgun context. The 98k that you shot would have more of a "kick" than your run of the mill 12guage shotgun. Sure, after a day of blasting through a couple boxes (or more) of shells you'll feel it in your shoulder, but that is about 25shells to a box. Where as with the 98k shooting the 7.92x55, there is a lot more powder behind that little bullet and from what I saw there was very little muzzle break on the rifle (if there was one at all, that rifle usually is not fitted with one), so you are feeling it completely blast back into your shoulder. I would definitely suggest trying to find a place outdoors for your next experience though. As said by other people in the comments, shooting indoors is probably the fastest way to discourage someone from the hobby because even a (relatively) small 9mm is going to sound and feel (to someone not used to it) like a much larger round than it is. You'll still be wearing full eyes and ears when shooting outdoors, but you would not be feeling it nearly as much in the chest unless a truly powerful weapon is being discharged. Stay away from anything labeled magnum as those are going to kick like mules and if you can look for firearms that have little slots cut into the end of the barrels, these muzzle breaks will cut down on the kick of the weapon significantly. An interesting thing actually, it sounds like a weapon that would kill you or threaten to pop your shoulder out of its socket, but shooting a .50 BMG is a (relatively) easy rifle to handle. Sure, it kicks, but the muzzle breaks that are put on the barrels, and the way the most .50's barrels have a set of springs to absorb the kick, it would feel like you are shooting a much smaller rifle. That is until you realize that everyone around you is laughing from the shockwave that gets putout from the end of the barrel. Definitely try to shoot again, but try it at an outdoor venue rather than an indoors one. The difference is quite literally night and day for the experience you'll have and it can be much more pleasurable!
You guys should try archery, not loud at all and very calming (to me at least). Also Graham, I really respect your feelings towards guns, I feel the same way. You know, if all people were that way it would be difficult to win a war. BUT if all people were that way, there'd be no war in the first place ;-)
i kinda wanted to see grahm and alex's reaction to firing the scar-H, or an M1 garand but i think that would have made their shoulders fall off, also shooting indoors imo isn't really the best way to get the experience of shooting guns
I'm British and I went to a gun range in Vegas too but I actually took to it quite well. I wasn't unnerved by the loudness and had a lot of fun! Maybe it's the secret empire builder in me yearning to get out. That said, the range I went too had some stuff of questionable taste. Their tips went to the NRA and, well, guess who didn't get tipped
The sound is way worse in doors the scar would of been loud out doors but most of the others would have been ok with ear protection glad you guys had fun with it
Is there a VOD of the D&D panel? I would love to see that! Also, man sometimes American gun culture can be cringey. I have family members that are into guns and I can respect it, but the culture tends to be this sort of off-putting aggressiveness and hostility.
If nothing else, at least now you have a better frame of reference for when every Watch + Play game puts a 1911 & an AK74 in their games. Also, if I recall correctly, one of the recent world Hotdog eating champions is a tiny Japanese girl, so...
I grew up with guns. I'm not a big fan of them (and should absolutely not have them nearby me for... reasons) but I've done quite a bit of shooting, including hunting. No military, though. But yeah, if you haven't done shooting before, it's amazing just how loud and strong the percussive sound from them is, and just how violent they are in your hands. They are 100% not to be underestimated. Editd to add: I've done a bunch of the buffets. My favorite is the Bellagio's. But Ceaser's is good stuff.
Having gone to Vegas I completely agree. I went with the zombie package (Berreta, Pump Action Shotgun, AR15 with scope) and fully automatic Glock (not handgun). I have to say the shotgun was my favourite. not as much kick as I was expecting but that first shot is eye opening. When you are watching stuff happen in a movie or in a video game it really doesn't prepare you at all for the reality of firing a real live ammo gun. Having done so, I'm not sure I would again either. I will say that another couple next to us went with some ridiculous package. They were firing a .44 magnum revolver (Dirty Harry?), a 50 cal sniper rifle and a M249 SAW. It was crazy watching a little asian woman who weighed probably less than the gun try to shoot the thing. The instructor had to stand behind her with both hands on her back otherwise I'm sure she would have gone flying. She looked absolutely horrified the whole time. Pretty sure she was only there because her boyfriend wanted to.
As an American that shoots and owns guns the fact that you and Alex were on paper is actually pretty good, but really shooting indoors is the worst way to be introduced to the hobby since the sound is far far worse in an indoor space.
RockMongler They really are miserable the echoes really are amplified and its so much worse than open air shooting. Also seeing Alex's bruise at the end the staff should really spend a moment making sure people are holding the guns right be for they shoot since an AK 74 should not leave you with a bruise.
yup indoor the sound has nowhere to go, so it just bounces around the walls, outdoors it can dissipate out better and yeah the #1 cause for bruised shoulders when firing guns is not having them nice and secure against your shoulder since if it's loose the recoil smacks it into your shoulder, if it's secure the force is distributed through your shoulder and rocks your whole body to absorb it
Please say you've been drinking lots of water since Saturday. Goodness, it's been ten years since I was in Vegas. Part of me sees your footage and wants to explore the shops and architecture again, and part of me remembers how awkweird it was and doesn't want to go back.

Big difference on open and closed shooting ranges. By experience :)
As Russian i could confirm that's ak-74 bruises :) I shoot it several times before, all you get from that - high pitch noise in ears and deafness + bruises.
11:40 Yeah, I remember firing a shotgun, once. Despite all of the warnings and prep, I still managed to shoulder the gun wrong, so the recoil hit be hard enough to turn my torso about 45 degrees and make my shoulder really sore for most of that day. At the very least I can say that I have 100% accuracy with a shotgun in real life, since I still hit the target.
I know I'm a little late with this advice but for the next time your in Vegas and want to eat at a buffet go to boulder station or sam's town they're cheaper and where the locals go when they want a buffet. If you go to the boulder station one they have a station where they make you pasta to order.
I know this is a really late comment (2years) but if you go to another in door shooting range I would highly recommend doubling up on ear pro. Use inner ears and muffs, makes it a whole lot more comfortable and less fatiguing.
I am a medium to large-sized Asian (short and fat) and we totally love buffets because of the frugality of it all. As much food as you can eat for one price, and different kinds of food? It's reminiscent of the food-based family parties we would have.
Pretty sure if I played with someone being so grandiose the entire time, my character would attempt to assassinate him for being annoying. Here and there = funny... Constant = annoying... Hard to judge from the 2-3 minute segment shown.
Yeah, the Movies and TV *drastically* undersell how loud guns are, especially when fired indoors. I would have started you guys with the rifles and ended with the handguns, especially a .45. Also may have been nicer to go to a place more personable than McShoot'ems, but it was nearby I suppose, so can't complain too much,
Honestly, it doesn't occur to me that guns are loud anymore. I mean, they're loud and all, but it's a loudness I've heard enough by now. Also, I don't think The Professor was playing a D&D character. Also also, Vegas buffets are a trap.
RE the second point: WotC has started producing 5E supplements to let you play on the various planes of Magic. He was playing someone from Nephalia within the plane of Innistrad.
Graham's D&D character??? TEMPLE OF THE LAVA BEARS??!?!!? PLEZ I'VE WAITED 4 SO LONG IT'S SO AWESOME! No but seriously what's the status on Temple of the Lava Bears? I'd love to see it realized.
a small detail, but thank you for not playing music during the shooting range.
Rhystic Studies may I ask why adding music to that would have been bad?
Some people like to hear the gunfire. Having been to a shooting range, I kind of get it.
I liked the lack of music because it doesn’t make light of seriousness of these weapons. It shouldn’t be a novelty, yes shooting guns can be fun but it’s still a serious and dangerous hobby.
Those theatre specific packages would be handy for a novelist or screenwriter working on a period piece.
I live in Vegas and I work at that Buffet! I can't believe I missed you guys. Big fan of Friday Night Magic series. I learn so much from you guys! Just want to say thank you to you all for what you do! Maybe next year I'll meet you guys!

I think that my favorite part of these vlogs is the semi regular "graham gets really excited about awesome cosplay" interludes
"After a full morning of discharging firearms, I'm going to finish my Dungeons and Dragons character."
That's some pretty severe cultural whiplash there.

Yeah, children brought to a gun range? As a brit, *that* was very disturbing to me.
@@Oliver_JW keep in mind that we are teaching said children how to handle guns properly so accidents don’t happen.
@@matthewradabaugh1635 Considering how many school shootings happen here, I don't think "Make sure kids can properly handle a gun" is a good mission.
James dancing is one of the most wonderful things you've ever committed to video.
Yes, the accidental high speed captures from this LV adventure have been fun. No doubt that's part of why Graham kept them in the edit.
"James: entertain me..."

A lot of people are like that
Makes sense. Learning how to respectfully work with firearms doesn't mean you want to use a gun on another human. (Also it gets you ready for the inevitable zombie apocalypse.)
Neither .21 nor .34 are conceivable rifle calibers or rounds, or at least calibers or rounds that I have ever seen. Do you mean a .22 and a .45 maybe?
That's probably what I meant. It was over a decade ago, so I couldn't remember exactly. Which one is the small one in the 20s range that can be in rifle and in pistol form? It was that, and I shot with both.
.22LR (Long Rifle) is very popular for both pistols and rifles, so probably that.
I’ve lived in America my whole life and am very aware of gun culture and laws, but WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND beings their what look like less that ten your old kids to a gun range.

I think the term is "Extra" and I can't really deal, so I tend not to.
Prof is a very flamboyant human being, and I respect him for it a ton

As an American, it's still fairly weird. As you said though: it makes complete sense given the context of where they were and what they were doing. But it's a weird thing to think about.
James dancing is 10x better in slow motion!
Coming from the UK, all of that gun range was a culture shock. From the kids, to the human target that was weird.
Going out to the desert to shoot is a much better experience than indoors. Not nearly as loud.
The high speed heck-ups really make the outro nice.
Thanks for the VLogs Graham :)
It's also much louder because the sound reverberates indoors. It's not too bad on an outdoor range.
I really enjoy the edited-in 'high-speed heck-ups'. Clever and funny use of a probably-pretty-understandable-I'm-not-a-videographer-how-would-I-know mistake.
EDIT: Also, best buffet in Vegas is probably (still) at The M.

Steel Dom As long as there's politics, there's war. Feelings about using guns don't really factor into it, I'm afraid.
That's freedom hitting you in the chest when firing weapons
This series is wonderful, I'd love for you to keep it up! :)
yeah indoor shooting is not easy, but hey now you can say you did a thing
i kinda wanted to see grahm and alex's reaction to firing the scar-H, or an M1 garand but i think that would have made their shoulders fall off, also shooting indoors imo isn't really the best way to get the experience of shooting guns

Alex on your 1911 it is a 7 round mag, you had 7 in the mag and 1 in the chamber
That was a fast 25 minutes. I love these GVlogs.
Well dancing is his gift, Graham.
In absence of Caseys daily vlogs, i am loving this :D
Wouldn't Alex's "7 rounds vs. 8 rounds" thing be explained by having a seven round magazine plus one chambered?
Yes, that is exactly what happened
I swear to god I've heard the main section of that soundtrack on a Watch and Play, but damn if I remember which one.

Read about this on Alex's Twitter feed, awesome to actually get to see it
This title is so American, I love it!
As an American that shoots and owns guns the fact that you and Alex were on paper is actually pretty good, but really shooting indoors is the worst way to be introduced to the hobby since the sound is far far worse in an indoor space.
I've never shot inside, but the indoor ranges I've seen look pretty miserable and unpleasant to shoot in.
RockMongler They really are miserable the echoes really are amplified and its so much worse than open air shooting. Also seeing Alex's bruise at the end the staff should really spend a moment making sure people are holding the guns right be for they shoot since an AK 74 should not leave you with a bruise.
No gun under ~.300WinMag should leave a bruise. Magnum 12ga or 30-06 maybe ,but a 5.45? No way should that hurt.
Mister Bearpunch I mean I have gotten a bruise from .308 but that was after 200 or so rounds in a bolt action.
yup indoor the sound has nowhere to go, so it just bounces around the walls, outdoors it can dissipate out better
and yeah the #1 cause for bruised shoulders when firing guns is not having them nice and secure against your shoulder since if it's loose the recoil smacks it into your shoulder, if it's secure the force is distributed through your shoulder and rocks your whole body to absorb it
James did his thing!
urghhh Prof. lol. my husband sometimes speaks in a Russian accent for an entire d&d campaign and it drives me NUTS!
12:30, right when he walks past a pillar with "EDGE" written on it.
As Russian i could confirm that's ak-74 bruises :)
I shoot it several times before, all you get from that - high pitch noise in ears and deafness + bruises.
Graham didn't get the true PUBG experience, that gun started on burst by default.
Whew. That was fascinating.
Yeah, guns aren't for everyone.
.... also talking about "edge lords" whilst walking by a column with an "edge" commercial on it ....
The end footage is highspeed because everything in Vegas is crazy.
Tiny Asians love their buffets (I say as a tiny Asian)
iisazel X I second that as a tiny Asian.
I'm not a tiny Asian, but my tiny Asian sister-in-law also does.
iisazel X Also tiny Asian. My entire family loves buffets
I am a medium to large-sized Asian (short and fat) and we totally love buffets because of the frugality of it all. As much food as you can eat for one price, and different kinds of food? It's reminiscent of the food-based family parties we would have.
I love tiny Asians!
Your vlogs are getting better.
Is there more video of the d&d session? It looks fantastically hilarious!
Pretty sure if I played with someone being so grandiose the entire time, my character would attempt to assassinate him for being annoying. Here and there = funny... Constant = annoying... Hard to judge from the 2-3 minute segment shown.
Graham what shoes are you wearing? They look great!!
In "Jeegus" name we pray [BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM]
Jesus Christ I fucking love the professor.
Those are much bigger guns than I've ever shot. I've only ever shot .22s.
That sick burn at 12:32 :D
Yeah, the Movies and TV *drastically* undersell how loud guns are, especially when fired indoors.
I would have started you guys with the rifles and ended with the handguns, especially a .45. Also may have been nicer to go to a place more personable than McShoot'ems, but it was nearby I suppose, so can't complain too much,
Your shoes are pretty neat Graham ❤️
Honestly, it doesn't occur to me that guns are loud anymore. I mean, they're loud and all, but it's a loudness I've heard enough by now.
Also, I don't think The Professor was playing a D&D character.
Also also, Vegas buffets are a trap.
RE the second point: WotC has started producing 5E supplements to let you play on the various planes of Magic. He was playing someone from Nephalia within the plane of Innistrad.
I think Daniel's joke was that Prof was just acting that way because that's how Prof acts IRL. :-D
The reason it was louder than expected is because you were in the indoor range
It is way more quiet when you are at an outdoor range 👍
Graham's D&D character??? TEMPLE OF THE LAVA BEARS??!?!!? PLEZ I'VE WAITED 4 SO LONG IT'S SO AWESOME!
No but seriously what's the status on Temple of the Lava Bears? I'd love to see it realized.
hey! you guys went shooting! pretty neat.
Next time I ll try that buffet
