New project: slow stitch field notes - lots of ideas for Roxy’s Journal of Stitchery

- So excited to be starting Roxy’s Journal of Stitchery Volume 6 project which is to create a slow stitch fabric field notes journal, taking inspiration from books like Edith Holden’s The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady. #Roxysjournalofatitchery #slowstitching
In this video I will share many ideas I have this project and two different version of field notes inspired pieces I am going up create.
The first will be a standing up version of an accordion book that will make a gorgeous feature piece across the front of a bookshelf.
The second will be little tins combined slow stitched fabric pieces and actual nature specimens.
I also share some beautiful stamps that I’m planning to stamp onto fabric to use on the project and lots of lovely vintage laces, doilies and trims that will add lots of texture and interest.
I show the start of laying out my first page featuring a tulip and Latin script.
Here’s a link to the next video in this series: Roxy’s Journal of Stitchery cover miniature field notes journal & cabinet of curiosities #slowstitch

I love the idea of the book being a concertina and open for display. I love those stamps they are perfect for the theme. I am so sorry to hear about your Dad, I am glad he's improving. So excited to see your project take shape, Elizabeth 🤩
Thanks so much Elizabeth - it’s such a captivating project as I know you feel the same 🤗

Hi Christine, great ideas. It looks very nice. Beautiful fabric. Good to hear that your father is doing better👍🧡💐🍀
Thanks so much Anita 🤗
Love your ideas and inspiration! Your enthusiasm helps ease some of my fears about jumping in with this project and giving it a go. I can’t wait to see how you interpret each prompt and making it your own. Glad your Dad is feeling bettet
I’m so happy if I can help ease you into getting started Mona - reminder there are no mistakes just design plot twists :) A stitchy choose your own adventure type book 🤗
All great ideas. You've got me thinking. Thank you for sharing. 😊
Thanks so much Pat - I love how we’re all sharing our ideas!
I've just used the Matilda fabric print and it worked out beautifully. I scanned some scrapbooking paper then printed it on the fabric especially for my field notes. Good news about your Dad. ❤
Great to know it worked well for you- I really do need to overcome my phobia 😆
Wonderful news about your dad. Will take a little while but sounds like he is on the road to good health again. Will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. lovely ideas, think I will give this a miss and just sit back and watch you all create as i catch up on a few things I am so behind in. I know I will end up adding in some of your ideas into projects I slow stitch so kinda like joining in. Have a lovely weekend.
Thanks Paula - a lot of relief that he is getting better day by day. Thank you for your kind thoughts. I look forward to seeing how you incorporate snippets of inspiration in your own work. You’re so right about the way we can find inspiration and use it in our own way. Cheers, Christine
Wonderful news, happy for you and your family. 🤗
Thank you Hilde - we are so grateful dad is improving every day ☀️
Going to be spectacular ❤
Thank you Karen - it’s definitely going to be fun! 🤗

Thanks so much Teresa 🤗
Wonderful ideas! I think I like the concertina book idea. Love all your fabrics!
Many thanks Carol 💛
Glad your dad is recovering and feeling better bless him . I’ve cut my fabric ironed it all into shape . I know what I want you to do , lol it’s all in my head just need my hands to do their work . But here I go I’ve got a few other things to make (swaps) first before I even start to get any further with my field notes project. Look forwards to watching you on you journey for this project. TFS Christine x
Well done on selecting your fabric and getting it ironed - well on the way! Sometimes it’s good to let the thoughts percolate for a bit. Cheers, Christine
Thank you Christine for your video and sharing your ideas. All lovely and will fit beautifully, from stamps to fabric and eventually thread. Love those fungi ,you are going to have a lot of fun with all these goodies. So glad your dad is continuing to improve.
Thank you dear Carol - it is a relief and we’re now just awaiting some further followups for dad. Cheers, Christine
Fantastic news about your dad Christine may he continue to recover, healing ❤️🩹 thoughts his way .
Lots of great ideas , like you my head is also spinning with so many ideas . Need to have a look through my stash and try and make a start . Take care enjoy the weekend and of course pats and belly rubs for trav .
Thanks Joanne - such a relief that dad is getting better day by day. Have fun looking through your stash and getting started (sometimes that is the hard part when we have so many ideas) but the great thing with slow stitch is we can always tweak our ideas or plans as we go. Trav sends a nose boop as he is sprawled out on my lap on the Chou h while I have my morning coffee. He still thinks he can fit in my lap like when he was a small puppy 😆 Have a great weekend. Cheers, Christine
Enjoyed this so much Christine - thank you! I couldn't get to sleep last night as my head was so full of ideas....lovely to watch you process your thoughts too. Very much looking forward to following - enjoy every moment! Sincerely, Kate 😊❤❤
Thanks so much Kate - I know the feeling of creative ideas sometimes getting in the way of sleep! But what a joy the ideas are. I look forward to seeing where you’re going to take this project. Just love all the possibilities. Cheers, Christine 🤗
Great start can’t wait to see the finish always look forward to your videos ❤❤❤😊
Thanks so much Debra - very kind 💙🧵🪡
Wonderful ideas !!! I found a vintage book case with glass to display my works so I can share them with my family and friends, your idea to display your work is a nice idea. Thanks so much 🪡🧵♥️
Really look forward to seeing yours Lisa - that sounds wonderful! Have fun creating! Cheers, Christine
You’ve made a great start Christine, bursting with ideas! Looking forward to all the loveliness you will create over the next 6 months - Sally 🌸🌼🌸
Thanks so much Sally - so many ideas amongst us all - much fun! And like you, as I create more ideas come flowing in!
Hi Christine so sorry to hear your Dad has been very unwell and is in hospital, sending hugs and hope he continues to improve.
I have been trying to catch up with TH-cam videos with people I follow so hadn't realized your Dad was ill.
Take care and thinking of you and yours 💙💙💙
Thank you for your kind thoughts Sue - dad is getting better day by day which is such a relief. Hope all is going for your family too. Cheers, Christine xx
I’m loving your ideas Christine. I’m going to do the concertina style journal using the covers of an old Readers Digest book. Wow those stamps are fabulous your friend gift you.. they will really be handy for sure.
Hope your Dad is coming along good. 🫶🏼
Thanks Kaylee - look forward to seeing your slow stitch journal too! Have fun creating! Cheers, Christine
Hi Christine. You always have such great ideas. The little specimen tins are going to be so cute. I love your fabric. It will be perfect for this project. I’m not going to participate this time around. I have too many other things I want to do and I just don’t have time. So I’ll just keep up with your progress on this one. I’m happy to hear your dad in getting better. Hugs..❤️🙂
Thank you Linda - it’s fun watching what everyone creates and no reason you can’t do the project at another time or take some inspiration from it for other project 🤗
Great ideas
Thanks so much Tineke - have fun creating too xx
Wow, you're off to a great start Christine 👏 👍 I'm looking forward to watching you and seeing what you create. I'm still having trouble stitching (and even watching it, though I do watch you) your voice is kinda soothing. I could tell as soon as I heard you today that your dad must be getting better. I'm so glad he's improving. Will continue to pray for him as well as your mom and you. TFS 😊
Thanks Kim - sorry to hear you’re still finding stitching a challenge. I’m
So happy that we still get to chat and I hope you have a restful and restorative weekend xx
@createandcraftwithchristine thanks so much! I hope you do as well. Luckily I have been able to do some art/junk journaling in the meantime as my health allows. That's keeping me from going totally bananas.
@@kimberleymaloy1728 well done for finding something you can do creatively until you feel up to stitching again. Everything in its own time xx
@@createandcraftwithchristine thank you Christine! And in the meantime I get to watch you stitch to get me back to it soon! 😆
Printer able fabric works really well. I did it last night
Good to know it works so well - I’m looking forward to adding this to my stitching. Cheers, Christine
Oh,this looks wonderful! I was drooling over the Wm. Morris scrap fabrics and notecards. I love little tins and boxes and have a stash of some similar. I'm in the U.S. Barnes and Noble bookstores usually have little boxes of notecards. I'm excited to see how you develop this project! ❤
Thanks Kay - I love how these shared (but choose our own adventure)
projects bring us all so much joy! Have fun creating! Cheers, Christine
Your globosa has covered what looks like July where you've torn the word tulip?
Great start.❤
Great spotting! Funny how the word tulip can turn into July! Thanks Debra and hope you have a great weekend. Cheers, Christine
Love your ideas!! Looking forward to watching you do these things, but I will not be doing the Roxy challenge this time. I have a few things I really want to get done for Christmas and my health has taken a down turn so I will be limited in what I will get done. Appreciate your enthusiasm and you motivate me so much! Thanks!❤
Thanks so much Betty - and I’m sorry to hear about your health challenges. Will be sending my positive thoughts your way. 💚
Very creative ideas! I like the second one best - but I might be biased because of the Morris & Co fabrics! 🤣 That idea reminds me of the Victorian and Georgian curio collections. It would be fascinating for a future treasure hunter to find. The tulip fabric make me think of the stories about tulip hunters of the past too! 😂
I’m glad your Dad is still improving. It’s good to hear of his progress.
It sounds like a fascinating project idea, and I’m looking forward to seeing how it develops.
Oooh now I need to look up Tulip Hunters! Rabbit holes and me go hand in hand 😆
@@createandcraftwithchristine it’s fascinating. There was a fashion for rarer and rarer tulip colours or petal variegation. The drive for the most patterned petals was an odd one - the more variagated the petals, the thinner the stems… I’ll leave you to draw your own conclusions! 🤣
Just… maybe don’t look up the orchid hunters… 🫤
(I’m a bit of a history researcher by nature. I tend to find quite a few oddities. I’m trying to add them to my own videos! 🤣)
Such lovely ideas! Thanks
Thank you Cathie - these projects are so much fun!
I look forward to seeing the results of printing on the fabric 'paper'. I was thinking of doing the same. AUS as well!
Thanks Merridith - I’ve done my first print on the fabric paper and it came out great - see my most recent video including how I collaged a botanical image with my own text 🤗
Love your ideas....so happy to hear your dad improving...take care
Thank you June - we are over the moon at how well dad is progressing!
Wonderful concepts. So glad your dad is doing better. I could tell from your voice that you had some relief from the worry of how sick he was. Sending good thoughts for a speedy and great recovery.
Thanks Martha - it’s going to be so much fun! And so so relieved that dad continues to get better each and every day!
Christine, very good news for your dad! I'm so happy ❤!! Needless to say I love your projects so much! That tulip fabric is fabulous...so excited! Thank you!
Thank you dear Giusi - so many ideas! 💚
Oh yea please, the giveaway sounds good… I’ve never seen those type of stamps
Thanks Kristy - will definitely make extras when I get stamping 🤗
Opps couldn’t help my self Christine I’ve started on mine . That’s 3 projects on the go I like to finish one before I start another one … oh well never mind ….
Haha it is hard to resist the lure of a new project! 😆
That comic book card is great idea, can I use that idea too ? I have comic book cards…. You have such great ideas. I’ve got ideas, but need to see other ideas to get it in my head.
Feel free to take inspiration from anything you see on my channel - nothing makes me happier than sharing creativity and bouncing off each other with ideas and experiments 🤗
@@createandcraftwithchristine thankyou
Lovely ideas, thank you for sharing. A shame you were zoomed in quite so far.
Thank you Lucy and good luck 🤗
Lovely ideas! For us Americans
The A4 size paper measures 8.27 x 11.69 inches, only slightly larger than the close equivalent to U.S letter size 8.5 x 11 inches.
I personally had no idea what A4 was all about when I first started watching these brilliant creators…and I still have to look it up to be precise. But I just think of it as a letter size paper. ✌️🤍
Thank so much for sharing the US dimensions - very helpful! And have fun creating too Tammy 💙🧵🪡 cheers, Christine
