- So excited to be working on Roxy’s Journal of Stitchery Volume 6 project which is to create a slow stitch fabric field notes journal, taking inspiration from books like Edith Holden’s The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady. #Roxysjournalofatitchery #slowstitching
In this video I will share my new idea to combine my specimens tins, William Morris designs, natures textures piece and other dimension pieces into a cabinet of curiousities. Thanks @creepycutiecrafty for your inspiration for this and apologies for not getting your TH-cam name right in the video!
In this video I work on a miniature fabric field notes journal featuring Tim Holtz Stamps, hand stitched letting and a little doily and button enclosure (the latter added after the video). This will be part of the first cover panel for my standing up version of an accordion book that will make a gorgeous feature piece across the front of a bookshelf.
My piece will make use of lots of lovely vintage laces, doilies and trims that will add lots of texture and interest.
I show the start of thread painting the tulip using regular cotton.
Here’s a link to the first video in this series: New project: slow stitch field notes - lots of ideas for Roxy’s Journal of Stitchery #slowstitching

This is going to be such a fun project!
So much inspiration out there like Edith Holden and The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady.
Thank you as always to Sarah @roxycreationsbysarah and Rachel @roxycreations679 for hosting these wonderful projects. Be sure to check them out and support their creativity.
Cheers

I love how this is coming together so beautifully and can't wait to see where the clues take it! And I'm very glad to hear your dad is feeling better. Thanks so much for sharing your thought processes!
Thanks so much Sheri and good luck for the draw 💙🧵🪡
Such an exciting project and I love your plans for it. The interactivity of your accordion book sounds so much fun - an invitation to explore and engage with the work. How wonderful to hear of your Dad now wanting to chat and can eat a little. Very positive progress. Thank you for my mention, you are so kind in your support of us all here on TH-cam. The little retrospective in my 100 episodes helped me clarify what I value so much in participating in these challenges. Ist it is the togetherness as we all work on the prompts. Next it is the challenge, to try something new, different, potentially out of our comfort zone. Thirdly it is the meaning, the personal connection and expression of ourselves and what we value in our work. These are the things I will be taking with me as I deep dive into the new volume. So looking forward to watching you and others on this journey for the next 6 months. 😊
Thank you so much Leanne and what wonderful insights from your retrospective. They resonate a lot with me too. Particularly sitting here on Friday morning before the working day starts, with Travers laid out across my lap on the couch, a cup of coffee by my side and such lovely comments from beautiful people on our community to catch up on and engage with and feel energised and inspired by. Good luck for the draw too 🤗 cheers Christine

Thanks so much Jean and good luck with the draw 🤗
The field notes booklet is adorable and your thread painting is something special ❤❤❤
Thanks so much Giusi 🤗
Happy your dad is on the mend. Love your work. Your tulips are going to look so beautiful. You have some really great ideas. 👏
Thanks so much Phyl and good luck too 🤗
I never thought about thread painting, but LOVE the dimension it gives! Your cute little book looks so pretty on the front cover and is crying out to be touched. Thank you for the inspiration and introducing me to a wonderful new hobby. Love it all. 😊❤
Thanks so much Anne-Marie 💙 I’m so happy when someone can take some inspiration from something I’ve shared. Good luck with the draw too 🤗
Thank you Christine for your video. What beautiful fabric and I love that idea of the bulb popping out from undercover. I need to catch up on your videos so you may see likes popping up in a flurry . I needed to dog sit for a friend who suddenly went into hospital and she has no internet and I have no smartphone, what a pair. So glad your dad is on the mend. Sending Travis doggy hugs.
I hope your friend is doing better now Carol - lovely to have you back and apologies for my delayed response/s. Cheers, Christine
“Love” everything you’ve chosen for this page!
Thanks so much Nancy and good luck for the draw 💙🧵🪡
Love ❤ your generosity Christine, thank you
Thanks so much Dianne and good luck for the draw 💙🧵🪡
Hi, Christine, I am so glad that your Dad is continuing to improve. It's a real good sign that he was able to call you to talk. I know how it is with long hospital/rehab stays. Visits or phone calls with loved ones are greatly appreciated. I have a version of that stamp set from Tim Holtz. The one I have probably only has half the stamps but he included a stencil with it. I'm gonna have to get out some different types of fabric and practice stamping on it. Your projects are starting out beautifully as usual and I'm excited to see what you do next! Have a great remainder of your weekend. TFS 😊
Thanks so much Kim - it is so good seeing dad improve day by day xx
@@createandcraftwithchristine I'm so happy that he is improving so well! I am still praying for his full recovery to be quick. 🙏
Gosh I LOVE the way you pages are going. This is a great way to be part of a community.

I will look forward to seeing how you go with the felting. The colour of your tulip is beautiful. I hope your Dad keeps making progress. Sending chest scratches and/or belly rubs to Travers. Your generosity is appreciated. Have a awesome week. 🙂
Thanks so much Sandy - Trav sends a nose boop too!🤗
Very pleased to hear your Dad continues to feel better. This video has so many inspiring creative things to try. Love your idea about the curiosity cabinet. You could also include little bottles and jars with seeds, tiny shells, pieces of lichen, etc. I collect a lot of natural items so I may make one to house and display all my treasures. Thank you for sharing your tips for thread painting. You make it look less intimidating and something I want to try. You are very kind to offer to make some stamped pieces to include in this project. I would love to receive some. I plan to start pulling out fabrics, threads, stamps, inks, etc this weekend and get going on my cover page. I chose my book cover so I know my page size so I have officially started today! Thank you for your videos; you and several other people I follow really add joy to my life💕
Wonderful idea about adding little bottles and jars and look forward to seeing your creations too 🤗 and good luck for the draw 🤗
Christine, I absolutely LOVE your idea for a collection box. It will be beautiful, I'm sure. And I would really LOVE some stamped botanicals. Thanks for your generosity with your ideas and your crafts.
Thanks so much Nancy and good luck for the draw 🤗
Great news re your Dads’ progress!🥰 Christine, you have given me much direction in slow stitching. Unfortunately, I don’t make journals but I love needlework and have been stitching for 50+ years. But I’ve never tried thread painting and I’m fascinated! I will be YouTubing it and researching this way of stitching. Thank you for your time and expertise in this matter❣️
Thank you Denise for your kind wishes and how amazing to share a little spark to take you in a new direction with you stitching. There are many versions of thread painting - I haven’t actually seen anyone else doing it with regular sewing cotton but I love the delicate effect. And good luck with the draw. Cheers, Christine
Ah that's brilliant you're doing a cabinet of curiosities, I've been toying with that idea for years and have a couple of wooden tray things hoarded for the purpose - I am very much looking forward to seeing how yours evolves. Love the idea of interactive elements too and having a 3D piece to sit on your shelf. I love all the Roxy projects you've done, but I reckon this one is even more up your street than al the others, it's going to be amazing. Glad to hear your Dad is feeling better, it's always lovely to see people back in their own PJs and feeling human again xo
ps LOVE love love the idea of stamping on fabric :)
Thanks so much Annie - I’d love to see your take on this project and the cabinet of curiosities 🤗

Hello Christine,
How wonderful that your Dad is getting better. May that continue to the best on ever single day!
Your stitching is so beautiful and the yarn colours so lovely! I enjoyed your video with a hand brewed coffee after my shift.
Now I try to clean up my chaos, before I have to sleep early (very early morning shifts those days (around 4:30 am, so alarm at about 2:30, because my dog needs a walk before and I love a calm start into my day without any hectic).
Have a lovely week.
Oh my goodness that is a very early start Hilde - I hope you are managing to rest ok and get some time to recuperate too ☀️
Hi Christine thank you so much for sharing your creative ideas with us. You really help me to ‘start’ a project. Thank you I absolutely LOVE your work xx

Some great ideas Christine, love how you are making your journal interactive. Looking forward to watching your progress. So pleased your dad is feeling brighter each day so much so he phoned. What a relief that must be for you and the family.
With your cabinet of curiosity, I was thinking you were going to make some kind of 3D creation as there is a TH-cam called exactly that name . Lol
Looking forward to seeing how you progress with your cabinet of curiosity’s.❤
Thanks so much Joanne 🤗 And good luck too 🤗
Christine your title page is turning out beautiful. Yesterday I pre pared my pages and pulled out my fabrics. I am going to do my piece in two chapters . The first forest notes and the second desert notes of Arizona. I have a summer home and a winter home and I split living every six months. The heat in the desert here is so hot in the summer we go north
\to the forest for summer. Yes Arizona has forests high in the mountains where it snows and the elevation is 7 k and above and the desert is 2K . Lots of possibilities. I'm excited to get started. I love ,love the way you are doing your stand up accordion stand up. I know your book is going to be lovely . Thank you for all your help. Sincerely🌲🌵😎🌻
Hi Pat - I love your plans for your field notes and remember loving the idea of your two seasonal homes when you first spoke (wrote) about them. What a smart way to live and probably brings a beautiful rhythm to the year too. Good luck for the draw 🤗 cheers, Christine
Thanks for sharing! It’s nice to see how your projects come together.
Thanks so much 💙🧵🪡
I'm so glad your Dad is better! I LOVE your idea of the interactions on your project. This tickles my junk journal fancy. I might have to adjust my project to allow more dimensions to my pieces to include some as well on my pages. It amazes me how easy you make thread painting look. I get so intimidated by it but will be taking the plunge eventually. Continued prayers and well wishes for you and your family. ❤
Thank you dear Michelle - hope all
Is good with you and yours. Good luck too 🤗

Love the embroidery refresher. It has been many years since doing any thread painting. Although it wasn’t called that then. That’s how old I am 😂. Great ideas to think about. ❤❤❤

I'm so happy to hear your Dad is doing better. Your stamped pieces are wonderful and I would Love to have a chance to use them in my Field Notes project. I love the mini book idea and the interactive idea on each page sounds interesting. I find your creativity to be such an inspiration.
Thank you so much Deb and good luck 🤗
LOVE the stamped fabrics! I also like the sort of crinkly look. I also LOVE thread painting! I've tried it myself before and had a realization today while watching you do the thread painting that I was trying to use embroidery floss instead of thread. But it's literally called thread painting!
I also do the roxysjournalofstitchery and I have been since the beginning. LOVE your videos.
Thanks so much Cher. Using sewing cotton for thread painting is something I haven’t seen anyone else do but I love the effect. But I also enjoy using wools or embroidery cottons or speciality threads. Have fun experimenting. And good luck for the draw 🤗 cheers, Christine
LOVE! LOVE what you are doing for your book.

Thanks Carrie and good luck for the draw 🤗
Wonderful news about your dad. Loved watching how the thread painting went, um can see we’re I could be going wrong, my stitches are quite shorter than yours, thread was way thicker and sigh you join your long stitches up and then place another in the middle. Yep think I will have a retry of this wasn’t that happy with my last effort but then again am new to this sort of thing so should make mistakes or as I call them new ways of doing things or better yet inventing stitches. Love the stamped fabrics you have made very fun, me gotta love mushrooms and butterflies are always useful too. Little book is supper cute such a fun way of holding the small material book to the big field notes one. Very relaxing watch and I learnt heaps. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us all. ❤know must try and implement. 🤞
Hi dear Paula - I think there are many different approaches to thread painting and my version using sewing cotton is actually something I haven’t seen others do. I use thicker threads and wool too sometimes but I do love the delicate effect of cotton. In terms of the size of stitches I think it depends on the design. If you are going to do longer stitches I suggest an embroidery hoop and backing fabric to avoid puckering the fabric. Have fun and hope you’re doing well. Good luck for the draw 🤗 cheers, Christine 💙
LOVE LOVE LOVE your stitchery videos ❤

Christine, as always your thread painting is beautiful. I’m not sure if I’ll be doing the field notes. I’m always looking for useful things to make, since supplies are precious to me. I may join in if I’m at a loss for a project - which you are never in that category! 😊.
One tip for stamping on fabric - if the ink pad is very wet, try stamping off on a paper first. I guess there are two tips - use a solid surface underneath, and press gently. Pressing too hard causes the wet ink to spread. With the stamps you’re using, if you don’t have an acrylic block just press with several fingers gently on the back. Hope that helps. ❤. (I have that set of stamps, they’re perfect for this project).
Thanks Martha - I think you could adapt the field notes prompts to a useful project. Fortunately I have a acrylic stamp base and the stamp pads aren’t too wet - I think it’s more that these Timholtz stamps are more spongy feeling than the stamps I have used previously. But think I’ve got them figured out now 🤗

This title page is going to be awesome. I “love” that your project can be displayed on a shelf. I’m looking forward to seeing how the cabinet of curiosities progresses too.
Thanks Candice - every Roxy project is just another level of fun! And good luck for the draw 🤗
I LOVE the thread painting that you are doing. I've heard about it but never seen it in action. I also did not know that you use thin sewing machine thread. I will have a go at this on my camping holiday up north in WA on my long service leave which starts when you announce the winner! :)
Congratulations on your long service leave and have a most wonderful holiday and stitching time. Using regular sewing cotton for thread painting isn’t something I have seen anyone else doing so it is unusual but I like using it as a technique as well as more regular forms using Appletons wool or embroidery thread. Good luck with the draw 🤗 cheers, Christine
LOVE that your dad is feeling noticeably better! I'm reminded that when I had my stroke a few years ago I was conscious pretty much the whole time when I first went into the ER. I remembered being aghast that they cut off my bra because it was one of my faves (I couldn't speak because every time I opened my mouth - or my eyes - I vomited). At the same time, one nurse asked another, "How much do you think she weighs?" Apparently, the other nurse pondered it for a moment before she answered with a weight that was 10 pounds UNDER what I really weighed. I remember smirking in my mind that even tho' I was in the middle of a stroke, I still looked good - LOL!
Oh my goodness what a strange, awful and terrifying experience that must have been but it speaks to your spirit that you even found humour in that moment. I’m going to think of you when I’m feeling a bit challenged by life 💛☀️And good luck for the draw! 🤗
