Slow stitch thread caddy using an old pot holder

  • Sharing my Roxy’s journal of Stitchery slow stitch thread caddy made from an old pot holder that I picked up at an op shop.
I love that the pot holder resembles a vintage quilt and in this video I share how I add slow stitching embellishments including hand quilting over the top of the machine quilting as well as yo-yos or Suffolk puffs, buttons, French laundry label and vintage ric rac from my much loved nanna.
I just love how cheery and sweet this has turned out from something that was otherwise headed for landfill! Reuse and upcycle makes me happy!

With thanks to Sarah ‪@roxycreationsbysarah‬ and Rachel ‪@roxycreations679‬ for hosting this fabulous project and allowing us all to have such wonderful stitching adventures and share with other slow stitch lovers!
I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Great idea about Nannas travelling ric rac. Something that brings enjoyment such as slow stitching and the memories about your ancestors and also our own brought together into one piece.

Oh Christine what a cute idea. Darling. You are certainly having fun stitching today. Thank you for all your ideas. I've only been stitching since I found the Christmas Roxy's journal of stitching on You Tube. I didn't have a scrap of fabric and now I'm so excited I think three two or three years later sewing away. I love slow stitching. I used to sew when I was young but only on the machine. I have a degree in textile arts so I've done everything from weaving to basket making. But slow stitching has captured my heart. I taught school for thirty years . Retired and learned to knit and watercolor. So here I am at 73,making journals and slow stitching! Tomorrow I'm stating my nature book.

Hi Christine, this turned out beautifully! I love how you can look at something and imagine it as something else, then, create it. I wish I had more of that talent! I think Nanna's traveling ric rac is a glorius idea and a good way to help further your memories of her and her sewing room. I hope you've had a pleasant weekend and will have a great week ahead! TFS 😊

Hello Christine, this little pouch is so sweet and practical. 👏🏼 You are right, the kitchen section in the op shops can hold some wonderful finds, I purchased an oval shaped placemat and stitched a really lovely pouch. Sometimes there are nice linen tea towels too. Your Nanna’s ric rac is lovely. I like the idea of travelling ric rac 😊 thanks for sharing. 🌻🦋💐

I hate fast fashion with the white-hot intensity of a thousand suns! I hate fashion that comes from the designers every quarter, too. It's almost as stupid a grass lawn: Growing it just so you can cut it.
