- The Roxy’s Journal of Stitchery prompt for the month of June is to create a slow stitch vessel or bowl.
The version I’m going to share with you is very easy to make from little scraps of fabric on a felt or blanket base, and to decorate with simple slow stitching stitches.
My piece is inspired by a poem by the incredible Mary Walker titled Wild Fruit. Please check out Mary Walker’s website and instagram:

In this episode I will show you how you can use thread and beads to slow stitch and embellish a butterfly, including some handy hints for working with metallic thread. This is part of the panel inspired by the third stanza of the poem.

With thanks to Rachel @roxycreations679 and Sarah @roxycreationsbysarah for yet another wonderful project!
With thanks too to Annie Claxton @artyfartyannie who got me started on this fabric panel as part of her Colour inspirations project earlier this year.
I hope you enjoy following along with this idea and tutorial to make an easy slow stitch container or vessel using scraps of fabric. And maybe you want to take a poem or piece of writing as inspiration too!

Sending many good wishes to your dad and all of you. Take care and I’m sure stitching can bring you some calmness 🩷🌸
I usually watch TH-cam videos on my laptop but watched this one on tv as I wanted to get the full effect, and I wasn't disappointed. The piece is beautiful and I love the stitching you did on the butterfly. Sending thoughts and best wishes for a speedy recovery for your Dad, and big hugs of support to both you and your mum.
Thank you Linda - it’s funny how videos do look different on the tv - I usually watch on my iPad too. Thank you for your kind thoughts too. 💙
The one thing I remember from my stroke eight years ago was the doctor telling me that a person heals while they sleep, so never try to stay awake or be ashamed if sleep overtakes one. It's good you understand that and are letting your dad sleep as much as possible. He IS in the best place possible and neither the family nor him should want him to go home soon. I was in the hospital for almost a month, including in-hospital rehab therapy, so a few more days for your dad would be great. My thoughts are with him and your whole family!
Very wise insights my friend and i am sure dad is healing as he rests. What an amazing human you are too to have recovered after a stroke and returned yourself to a thoughtful, feisty and fun friend 🤗
Beautiful. I love the beads on the butterfly. Hugs to you and your dad. I hope he’s feeling better soon.
Thank you my friend - I really appreciate your kind thoughts 💙
Christine, sending your father all the positive vibes for healing quickly. Make sure you take care of yourself and check in on your mom often. All the love and hugs. ❤
Thank you Martha - really appreciate your kind thoughts 💛
So sad to hear of the complications with your dad’s surgery. I definitely have him in my thoughts and sending healing energy. Love and support to you and your Mum. It is not easy to be by your loved ones, feeling helpless as they are not well. Your vessel is so lovely. Busy hands calm an anxious heart. I love how you have taken inspiration from the poem, and used that gorgeous beading. I am looking at the cousin of the bird on your vessel, the beautiful bird you stitched for me and smiling. Each time I walk past my bird, I will be sending the most positive energy your way, care and support to you all. 💙 🤗
Thank you Leanne for your healing thoughts and all while you’re on your own journey of recovery. It brings me joy to think of that little stitched bird watching over you too 💙
Prayers for you and your family especially your Dad! Sending love and hugs as well! Beautiful butterfly!💕
Thank you Schrell for your kind thoughts - I am sure they are helping my dad heal 💙
Oh Christine wishing your dad a speedy recovery. Thinking of you and your family. 🙏 Your vessel looks amazing 👏 🤩 love the butterfly 🦋
Thank you Phyl 💙
Looks beautiful TFS . Hope your dad has a speedy recovery Christine . Will be thinking of you all xxx
Thank you Pat - really appreciate your kind thoughts 💙
Praying for your Dad. One of the hardest things in my life was watching my Dad go from strong and vibrant to unable to even stand. Somehow I always thought of him (as you say) as not aging. 😢. Funny story… I was trying to thread my needle last week and getting very frustrated. Just when I thought I had done it , it came out again. The top of the eye had broken off leaving it to resemble a pitch fork. That’s 20 minutes I’ll never get back! 😂🤣😂. Hugs and blessings, ❤️🤗🇨🇦
It’s strange the tricks our minds play on us that holds our parents in some imagined time capsule of agelessness until something jerks us out of that. I feel for you experiencing this too and for everyone grappling with the impacts of inevitable ageing. 💛 Having a little chuckle about your needle story 😆
Hi Christine, sending healing prayers for your dad. May he feel better very soon, and may his breathing be easier as they drain his extra fluids in his lungs.
And may he return to his normal self very soon. Prayers for your family. Take care, Christine.
Your vessel is coming along so beautifully! Butterfly looks dazzling!
🌸hugs,
Tess
Thank you Tess - really appreciate your kind thoughts 💛

Thinking of you and your Dad, I know how you feel been through something similar. I've been feeling bad with the flu these last few days . Lying in bed watching vids of you and others stitching. On my third day hoping to feel better tomorrow so I can get out of bed and stitch with you. Best for your father. Thane care of yourself and I'll take care of myself too. 🌵❤️💐😮🙏🏽
Oh no Pat - so sorry to hear you’ve been feeling poorly! Hope you’re feeling better by the time I’m replying. Sending you every wellness wish. Xx
So sorry to hear this news about your Dad! Such a difficult journey, I will pray he recovers from this quickly. 😍
Thank you Betty, I’m pleased that he is starting to gradually improve. 💛
Oh Christine, I am so very sorry about your Dad's surgery not going well and the complications that have arisen! I have al ready started praying for him and will continue as well for you and your Mom to have ease of mind. It's a hard thing you're going through. None of us ever imagine our strong fathers to be frail. I will be 60 this year but still imagine my dad being that age. I could tell from your first word that something was not right and I'm so sorry that it was this. I know you're strong and self sufficient woman but please let us know if you need anything at all. This piece is glorious. Can't wait to see it assembled. Continued prayers 🙏 ❤️
Thank you dear Kim - your thoughts and prayers are most appreciated xx

So sorry to hear about your dad and the complications following surgery, sending healing thoughts and prayers . A very worrying time for both you and your mum . You take care stay strong and the wonderful medical team will do their work to ensure he recovers . I believe we all tend to think our parents never age and time stands still, it’s not until something happens that we realise we all are indeed aging.
Gentle hugs and prayers to you all . Speedy recovery to your dad ❤

Thank you dear Becca - your thoughts for us are so very appreciated 💙🧵🪡
I'm so sorry to hear that your dad has had some complications with his surgery. It may be a blessing in disguise. His lungs and heart obviously were not working like they should have been and the surgery helped show that. So now the physicians can make sure that he is put on medication's to always help keep that fluid down in his lungs. It is called pulmonary edema. You are definitely in my thoughts and prayers.
Thanks Juanette - I’m very grateful for the wonderful medical care he had received and he is starting to make steps towards recovery. His oxygen levels are now returning to a reasonable level and he isn’t needing to wear an oxygen mask now. Little steps, day by day. I hope all is good with you. I look forward to catching up with your videos soon. 💛
Prayers for your family ❤
Thank you so very much Rhonda 💛
Sending love and healing energy to your Dad. And sending love and comfort to you and your Mum in this difficult situation.
Your work is so beautiful! I have some French General fabric with the birds, and I’m thinking about trying something like that. I hope you don’t mind lol. The blackberry vines are so dramatic, just striking. Thank you🦋
Thank you so very much Denise for your kind thoughts - they mean a lot to us. And please feel free to take whatever ideas or inspiration from my videos that you desire and have fun creating and playing. It brings me so much joy when something I share creates a spark for another person’s creativity 💙🧵🪡

I feel for you and your family. We too are going through a very concerning time. Our 15 year old granddaughter has just been diagnosed with lymphoma. Chemo in the near future and she’s pretty scared.
Candice, so sorry to hear this. What a scary time for your granddaughter. Much strength to you all as you support your granddaughter through the tough months ahead on her journey to wellness. 💕
Hello Candice, I am sorry to hear of your granddaughters illness. It might help you to know that our lovely grandson was diagnosed with lymphoma just after his 17th birthday he had a very lengthy series of chemo treatments and they did knock him around at times and the emotional fallout was hard for him. (It does seem to affect the emotional health as well.) However his outcome has been exactly as we hoped and prayed for…at 26 yrs he is now fully qualified as an automobile mechanic and is so happy and leading a full life. I will pray for your grand daughter and all of your family. Warm regards, Trish from Australia. 😘🙏🏽🌹🦋
I am so so very sorry to hear this Candice and I will hold your grand daughter in my thoughts and well as all of you who will be holding her in your love and care. Sending care, courage and strength 💛
Thank you so much for sharing hope Trish - such a kind message for Candice 💛
Dear Christine, we are having a hard time with mum, too, who had an important surgery 10 days ago. She's out of hospital now but we don't know yet what will follow.
Hope your dad will be well soon. Best wishes for him and for you all! Hugs and prayers❤Exquisite butterfly, thank you!
Sorry to hear about your mum, Giusi. Sending my healing thoughts all the way over to her, and hugs to you and your family as you are going through this very worrying time. 💕
Dear Giulio, I do hope your Mother is well soon. Prayers and best wishes Trish from Australia. 🌹🦋🙏🏽😘
@@leannescraftycupboard thank you,Leanne ♥️♥️♥️
@@trishjoyce9882 thank you very much, Trish ♥️
I’m so sorry Giusi that you are going through challenges with your mum And I will hold her and your family in my thoughts 💛
My gosh! Sending all my best wishes and healing thoughts to you and your family. I’m hoping for the best results.
Yeah, the combination of painkillers, weird environment and discombobulation after surgery can create all kinds of confusion. I’m sorry you’re all having to go through it. Make sure you get the rest you need too. Definitely be gentle with yourself. ❤❤
The embroidered composition is gorgeous! I love all the details and integration of different textures and materials. If you weren’t turning it into a vessel, it would be gorgeous in a lit box frame as an art piece. It’s so rich - texturally and in meaning. Beautiful work - yet again!
Also, your bead box is 100% a pirate treasure chest! 🏴☠️
Thank you - grateful that the confusion has now dissipated as dad starts to get better and less pain killers and less exhausted. Little steps day by day.
