2024 Ford Ranger review: Platinum | New luxury dual-cab ute / pick-up levels up beyond Toyota HiLux?

  • It wasn't that long ago that a ute / pick-up would generally be considered a work vehicle and nothing more. Oh, how times have changed, so much so that the 2024 Ford Ranger has added another string to its bow in the form of a new non-Raptor flagship, the aptly named and luxury-focused Platinum.
The Platinum nameplate may be new to the Ranger, but it's not new to Ford, which continues to use it on the mechanically related Everest large SUV to this day. Needless to say, the high-end similarities between the new Ranger Platinum and the established Everest Platinum are numerous.
But does Australia really need a premium alternative to the Toyota HiLux? It didn't work out so well for the Mercedes-Benz X-Class, after all. In this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Byron Mathioudakis puts the Ranger Platinum through its paces to find out.

Heated seats have been around for a while and available on many cars, however, cooled seats aren’t as common, and they’re certainly underrated. Leather gets incredibly hot and uncomfortable in the hot weather, and hoping in my wife’s Santa Fe, is such a pleasure to flick on the cooled seating, so very happy to hear the Ranger now gets it, in this model at least.

That's an innecesary future, just put non leather seats, and issue resolved, such futures only increase the price of the vehicle

If you build a premium Ute, they should off used coil springs to give it a more luxurious ride.

Are the seats as you mentioned cooled because of the special perforation or actually cooled by a designated cooling mechanism?

    • @rubytuesday1345

Recently bought the GR. I’d agree about the interior but not about the engine. Did you have it in eco mode? Makes a huge difference. In pwr mode it goes pretty quick. At the end of the day it’s a ute. If speed is your overriding requirement then you should be looking at something else.

Toyota last to introduce inertia seatbelt, last airbags, last to coil struts, last to ABS, last for traction, now last to 2020 ancap profit over new advancements
