The reconstructions are so creepy in the 80's
Britain was a really grey, grim place in the 80s. We were going through the process of deindustrialisation and there were a lot of derelict old buildings and wasteland about. The cities could feel pretty desolate and quite unpleasant. There was also a huge boom in violent crime - many say the mass unemployment there was In the 80s was a huge factor in it.
It breaks my heart how the train drivers would honk for Ivy, but she quit waving because she was murdered. Just horrible!
she was isolated there was no other houses around she was a sitting target poor woman

I think the Kathy Walsh murder is worse. Poor woman, can't put the heating on, had no phone, had to go to the daughters for a bath, had to ask for credit in the shop, then is murdered in her house. What a sad story.
A regular on the train may have also noticed her waving and took advantage of the fact she was always seen on her own in the middle of nowhere

My god. That girl heard those awful prolonged screams and did nothing ! If she had just pulled that chord. Her murderer was trapped on that train and could have been easily caught. Shocking.
I'm sure she's lived with the guilt since and she no doubt wishes that she could have done things differently.

It's sadly how a lot of people react in stressful situations - they freeze. There's a lot of evidence from disasters about how some people just totally seize up.
Reminds me of that case in New York where a girl was murdered outside an apartment block in a prolonged attack and many residents just stood and watched from their windows because they all assumed someone else would do something, and nobody did. It's called the bystander effect I believe
The Detective in the Ivy Batten case was also one of the detectives who interviewed killer Robert Black about the disappearance of papergirl Genette Tate in 1978.
Breaking into ivy's home and murdering a vulnerable old woman whose isolated is evil.

He was caught, Brian Parsons is his name.
@@jimmorrison3756 Yeah, I just looked it up. Parsons claimed all along that the Police planted evidence, such as fibres from the gloves to fit him up for the murder. He was jailed in 1988 and released in 2004.

I remember that Kilroy show, I often watched it in the morning and I remember the interview with Linda, it seems like yesterday in many ways, how time flies. I think Kilroy mentioned in one of his later show that Linda had died and paid tribute to her on the show. Very sad and tragic and may she RIP !!!!
If I heard screams, no matter what time it was, I'd be calling the police. Poor Kathy. RIP.

How would she call the police on a train in the 1980s? And if she left her compartment to get help and bumped into the killer, wouldn’t she be at risk too?
@@jamespm1994 you couldn't phone the police from a train back then but the person who heard screams should have told the police at the earliest opportunity. OR pulled the emergency cord on the train.
Been a few murders that happen on here when someone knocks on the door in the middle of the night. I don't know about anyone else, but if someone knocked on my door in the middle of the night and I had no idea who it was, there is no way I'm opening the door. I'm shouting out the window "who's there" and I'm doing it as loud as possible
@BarriSmith-jp9zs so in the 80s it was common to knock on people's doors in the middle of the night ? Absolute nonsense, and yes I grew up in the 80s. Don't remember people coming round to ask for sugar at 2am

It's so sad that a well known and much respected elderly lady should have died in such a fashion and then to lay dead for 2 days until her niece discovered her dead how sad that those trains passed by the bungalow and honked their horns for her she stopped waving to them because she was dead the poor lady was murdered
Situations such as the Kathy W case puzzle me; enough money for pubs, bingo, vodka and cigarettes, but no gas supply in her house, in the habit of not paying her bus fare and asking a local garage to use their phone for free?🤔

I hope the French girl can live with herself. Too shocked to move and help whilst someone's being murdered. I'd suspect she didn't follow him off the train. First thing is do is check the carriage
She was probably terrified of being killed herself. Plus she was she was out of her element.
The strange thing about her is she was apparently too shocked to move and only pull a bloody communication cord which meant she wouldn't have been in danger herself. Yet she DID follow a man who got out of the same carriage that Deborah was in when the train terminated at Victoria, possibly placing herself in danger. Wonderful logic from her! 🙄🤬
I think she's an accomplice in the case. How can you go from not pulling the cord even after the trains had stopped to following the suspect and not checking on the victim?
Theres clearly a change in attitude here and it doesn freaking add up. She's got something to do with it I tell you
@@AngelDelight69 Very unlikely. She was frightened, and she was following the man from a distance with crowds of people around so probably felt 'safer'.
I'm surprised ivy baton murder was never solved the gloves and hammer where so distinctive.
It was solved a bloke called Brian Parsons was convicted and sentenced although not without controversy
Brian Parsons was convicted in 1988 and sentenced to life, he was released in 2004.

If I'm correct Ms Walsh was murdered by a tenant named Christopher OReilly aged 21 but I could not find any other source of information... TH-cam link was no longer available
So many unsolved cases here. There doesn't appear to be anything online about the Michael Williams or David Short cases (despite the latter having many clues).
Poor Keith's reputation was dragged through the gutter in the police's attempt to get a lead on his killer.

It's been good watching these. I can remember some of these cases at the tine of their broadcast.
That David Short one seems to be the strangest of the lot. From what I've read, he was one very peculiar character.

I've tried to scour the internet for details on this, but all I found was someone being charged with her murder some years later nothing about any conviction. Grateful for any light you can shed.
all i've managed to find is a freedom of information request which says its unsolved. so will get that amended, sorry for the confusion

The HeraldScotland states that a ‘John Parker’ from Chipping appeared before magistrates regarding the murder of Joan Macan, but I couldn’t find anything else.

It's so sad that people who have been murdered were sometimes left undiscovered for days and reported missing and then sometimes the people who reported them missing are the ones that committed the crimes themselves make appeals on TV when they know that they are the ones that did it it's the same for any kind of crime try to deceive and lie about the crimes and cry crocodile tears just faking it for national TV it's really terrible but most do tell the truth nobody gets away with a crime
Hi all. This is a long comment but please take the time to read it. Im looking for an episode of crimewatch that shows the murder of a beautiful blonde haired Australian girl backpacker. I travelled with her as far as Nottingham from Leeds. Back in the late 80s early 90s, I was in my mid 20s. We sat at the Leeds main coach station for over an hour talking. Our conversation started after she sat next to me on the bench and she asked me to look after her backpack as she needed to get a ticket. I thought it was strange as it was the time of the bombings. I was apprehensive but she assured me there wasn't a bomb in her bag. She then disappeared. After 10 minutes, it got the better of me so I went to look for her. I saw her in the queue. I returned to our seats. We then travelled as far as Nottingham together where I left her. She told me she was going to go to the Glastonbury festival then travelling back to Nottingham to see THE SHERWOOD FOREST as she put it & see the Major Oak. I told her there wasn't much left of the forest & would need to go further towards Mansfield to see it. She was a lovely girl very pretty. I remember the clothes she wore on that day, Silver baseball boots & purple leopard skin leggings, white top with lace frills. But don't remember her face as time has gone by. I don't even rember her name. All I remember is seeing her picture on this programme & I remember the clothes they showed when she was sadly taken & killed. I rang the number on the program & told them I had seen her but never heard anything back. For some reason every few years this comes back to haunt me, I look every year to see if I can find her but I can't. There's nothing i can find on the Internet about her. I don't know why I look but I have too. I just need & feel I need to see her face again as I feel I've forgotten her. Please help if you've seen her on here or recognise something on one of the crimewatch videos. Thankyou.
Have you watched all of the Crimewatch uploads? Pretty much every episode has been uploaded from the 80's and 90's so you should be able to find it

Man who killed her was her lodger, got mad when she kept on asking for the money he owed her.
Who would allow their elderly mother to live in such poverty? If my parents were living with no gas etc or struggling in any way I would be handing over my entire bank balance. I'm astounded at this xx❤🙏❤xx

with the ivy batten murder i can not fathom why she would live in the middle of nowhere, no homes surrounding her no neighbours to make sure she is ok she was so isolated and she was elderly she was a sitting target that is why the murder is unsolved no witness no cameras, police have nothing to go on poor girl
Joan McCann was even worse! Imagine that massive house, down an isolated path, surrounded by trees, in the middle of nowhere. Then driving 60 miles, there and back, and coming home after midnight. Fatal.
Ivy wasnt a sitting target, she was safe in her own home until somebody chose to attack her. In the 70's at 6/7yrs old, I often wandered around the whole village and surrounding areas with my dog, walking places I won't as a physically unfit 50yr old walk alone, without a guard dog. You knew everyone in the community, who could and couldnt be trusted. They were definitely safer times if/when you chose to be isolated (as you call it)
I can't fathom out why somebody would kill another in such a way, I don't question why the victim lived where they did! Esp when it was safer where she lived in those days.

I would rather live in a nice cottage or bungalow in the middle of nowhere than in a flat in the downtown concrete jungle where your nextdoor neighbor can be lying death for five months before anyone notices. The first lady was surrounded by family walking in and around her bungalow and even traindrivers could attest to her closing her curtains or lights at specific hours. The second lady had her housekeeper living at the end of her pathway. I live in a city and I only know my nextdoor neighbors since they and my small family are the only non-expats living here. I couldn’t even tell you if the neighbors across the road have children let alone how many. Every six months it’s another family.

I believe the Yorkshire Ripper started the trend in the 70’s.

the 80s was a very bad decade for heionus crime maybe because of the depraved conditions some lived in
Now there's cctv all over and police are more hard working and professional that's probably why criminals think twice about crime..
80s there was many many bank robberies
Partially the world was a different place. No social media. Limited CCTV. Not sure if that's a good thing. All I know is society was better then.

Her attitude from not doing anything during the screaming and even after the screams to following Debra's killer is completely contradictory. Theres no way you can go from doing nothing to following the freakin killer
There's also no evidence to suggest that man she mentioned even exists. There's also no evidence to suggest she was in the train carriage next to Debra's.
I do think she was in fact in the carriage next to Debras but her actions just do not add up at all. And the only possibility is she's covering up for her boyfriend maybe

I hope that French girl can live with herself. She could have prevented that murder. Doesn't matter if she was scared or too shocked to move! It doesn't take much to pull some bloody cord and hopefully alert a man to the incident. If she'd done that one tiny thing, perhaps the man who would have gone to the attack would have been able to stop it 🤬

Any ideas why there is such little information re. the Northampton arson murders? On a local rag, there was a brief comment regarding an argument in the property just before. Maybe the son was targeted?

@@shhhplease1050 my brother Christopher had a row earlier in the day with my sister and boyfriend who lived next door . The police where 99% shaw it was him but he never admitted to the crime. It spit the whole family up xxx 32 year last November 2
@@lizzieshine6785 That is terrible. I know it is easier today with the ascent of dna, but the police in these days were questionable. Truly awful, thanks for the update. Obviously, nothing to do with anyone else, but it was seriously disturbing to watch.
@@shhhplease1050 thats half the story . The little girls father my other brother Steven and another sister went to visited the murder with a masste jump though the glass window and tried to kill him . My brother got 5 years for attempted murder and sister got 3 years

You need to research some more. They have the DNA of the killer on file. As of yet, it hasn't matched anyone. It's a matter of time before a relative or descendent ends up on the national DNA records.
She wasn’t an accomplice, there’s a huge difference between confronting a murderer in a confined space and in the open surround by people and she probably didn’t want to get involved and upend her own life.
She thought it was rape
Yet she didn't help the victim. She followed a man that was not spotted by anyone else nor picked up by CCTV even after extensive searching.

If Det Supt Brendan Gibb-Gray can't find the bus driver of a London bus on a st route on a particular day , he hasn't got a snowballs chance in Hell of finding the killer !
Was the Lynette case the one were the police stitched those 4 black men up and put them in jail for years until they got let out after serving years for a crime they didn’t commit..?

They have a DNA profile taken from the killers blood in the train carriage, but so far haven't found a match.
Bizarre how someone can sit and listen to 2 minutes of screaming without letting someone else know. I don’t think that would happen now. Londoners are pretty good at stepping in when something is off ever since all these terrorist stacks

If the cops ever say that the crime might be an accident and you should come forward , I’ll tell you right now that they DONT think it’s an accident .
Just like if a murder happens and they say there was a man near there that we think might be a witness , you should call . They don’t think you’re a witness : they are trying to get you to identify yourself . Don’t do it
