    I was a registered nurse working at the Alfred Hospital when this terrible attack took place. I was on an early shift starting at 0700 am and as soon as I got to the nurses station I was told about it. I was horrified and truly saddened when I heard and I followed the case very closely. RIP Damien and Steven and peace to your families. ❤

    It was a turning point which brought focus upon the injustice of the police superannuation fund also. These two boys contributed into that fund exactly the same as every other member, but their families were denied a payment as a consequence of their passing. Detective Inspector John Noonan, who featured in this, was instrumental in having that disgraceful situation turned around. Members today, are the beneficiaries of that turnaround.

    AWFUL! But what happened to the police who shot Jensen in the car?

    • @alexf9381
      @alexf9381 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      It's still up for conjecture what happened there. A gun was found in the car by Jensens feet and the armed robbery squad claimed that's why they shot him as he was pointing it at them but many people believe it was planted there after the shooting by them. From what I remember reading, a couple of years after the shooting, the armed robbery squad members who did that shooting were arrested by detectives. I think it was two or three of them. But they ended up walking in the end. They were either found not guilty or the charges were eventually dropped. In my view, the Jensen shooting was definitely a purposeful killing and they wanted him dead. The armed robbery squad at this point basically saw themselves as those old time bounty hunters, and didn't care if they captured their target dead or alive.

      Yes it is, the problem is so many police go around flexing their muscle bullying people. Unfortunately, this sort of behaviour reflects onto the good police as well. Here in Adelaide, the vast majority of people had a reasonably good opinion of the police 20 years ago. Now, most people hate them. They are thugs armed to the teeth. To make matters worse they seem unwilling to put much if any effort into actual crime. But have all the time and resources in the world to fuck with people driving to and from work.

    I worked at Victoria Police HQ in William St Melbourne when this occurred. The whole ten floors were so quiet that day, no laughing and joking around. We were all just devastated at what these innocent young men had gone through. Those scum didn’t care who turned up that night, they just wanted to murder police officers. And they used their own weapons against them. Still makes me sick to my stomach.

      That's not all that was claimed in the official report. The official report states he had a large gun in his hand and was pointing it at the armed robbery squad members while trying to drive through them as they had boxed his car in and trapped him so he couldn't drive off. So the official claim is thats why they shot him. He pointed a gun at them. Now, to be fair, that's their official report. A gun was indeed found at his feet, but it is claimed that it was all a ruse and the gun was planted there after the shooting to justify them shooting him. A number of the armed robbery squad who pulled their triggers were arrested for this shooting a few years later by detectives. They were set free eventually though, but many still think they were guilty.

    Just a shocking day in Victorian history. I go down to 222 Walsh St on October 12 every 5 years and tape up a bunch of flowers with a printout of the original plaque that used to be in Walsh St. Apparently the original brass plaque was removed by residents. I don't really blame them. It's not something you'd want to be reminded of every day.

    No doubt that the walsh street murders would've been one of the worst crimes ever to be perpetrated against police in Australian history and the history of Victoria. Only two and a bit years before that was the awful Russell Street bombing which would claim the life of young female police officer, Angela Taylor. Two heinous crimes perpetrated against police that were two years apart from each other. Both cold blooded. Unforgivable. Unforgettable. No police officer should ever go to work and then to not come home. Those two young officers deserved better. Unfortunately justice didn't prevail. The star witness should've been prevented from going back and talking to her criminal husband and his associates about the police interrogation.

    The murders of Tynan and Eyre was absolutely horrific and I believe they arrested the actual murderers who killed them. Shockingly they were not convicted. However, the sanitised version of the Houghton killing is inconsistent with the evidence and the statement of the female witness who was with Houghton when he was killed. It was an execution, as was the killing of Abdullah. Both were violent criminals, and violent criminals must be punished severely for their crimes, but it needs to be done, and seen to be done, lawfully. Police should not be hit squads, they need to uphold the law, legally. My sympathy lies completely with the two young constables and their devastated families. May they rest in peace and I hope their families have found peace and comfort in their lives.
