- getting Thanatos to admit he LIKES helping Zagreus and hanging out is like pulling a tooth, honestly, but I love this convo so here it is! ThanZag is cannon king
to get this event, reach six hearts with him (gift him 6 nectar) and then beat him (or tie him) at one of his contests. you may have to do it a few times to get this dialogue, but eventually this will trigger and the rest of his gifts will unlock!

Have you been taking damage to get him to spawn
It’s like take a certain amount of damage or just take damage in 3 chambers in a row im not sure lol and his chances for spawns increase it doesn’t work in tartarus I’ve only had him spawn twice there lol
I keep losing to him 😭 well more like a tie but still
I have no idea how to talk to him. he shows up and we do the event but I can never talk to him, as a direct result, there is no way for me to get his trinket.
usually right after his contest you have to go up and talk to him! he generally leaves right after you talk to him, so i used to give him the gift BEFORE i talked to him so he couldn't leave yet.
also, after each run where he appears, he has about a 70% chance of showing up at the House at the left end of that hallway achilles is in (so the north hallway). have you checked there? (again it's not a guarantee he'll be there, but theres a moderate chance after each run where he appeared to you)
