    Hertz flooding the market with 20,000 used Teslas is another depreciation hit for Tesla owners. If you’re not selling your Tesla right now it doesn’t matter - but if you are selling, you’ll soon realize how badly you’ve been Musked.

    • @DrewsReviews2023
      @DrewsReviews2023  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      I like the phrase Musked - made me laugh out loud. Fortunately, I didn't buy my car as an investment as cars are depreciating liabilities. I don't care what the car depreciates to - I pay my cars off and then I sell them for whatever they are worth at the time. It is also why I don't buy new cars. I appreciate the comment though because it is important for anyone to be aware of.

    How much does it cost to repair an EV if you get into an accident and the battery gets damaged or even just to replace the battery when it’s life ends?

    • @DrewsReviews2023
      @DrewsReviews2023  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not sure. I think my response to this would be how often do you get in an accident? I don't know that people are getting into an accident on an annual basis - specific to the battery life ending, they typically last about as long as a gas car. Between 200k - 300k miles. At which point you would/could move on to another vehicle the same way you would in a gas car when your motor blows at 250k miles. Thanks for the comment.

    I have run an EV for ten years now, what i have found is my driving style has changed to that of a chauffer driver. Smooth, no rush, read the road ahead more. I think mainly because of it being automatic with no sporty engine noise. I'm much more sensible now than if I was driving a golf gti, or other thug mobile.

      Same. And also, because it's possible to suddenly dart ahead to solve a problem like merging or changing lanes, the anxiety of having to compete goes away.

    Watching this got me thinking about tires. Drive in chill mode and not like you stole it. Was pretty keen on a Tesla EV but the initial purchase cost is my biggest barrier. If tires end up being a large expense that would sour the experience. Swings and roundabouts, I guess. Maybe the model 2 will be lighter and not chew through tires as fast even when nursing them.

    This video is telling the whole story. Hertz has announced that it is selling 20,000 EV and replacing them with gasoline powered vehicles.
    The reasons given customers do not want to rent EV, and the high cost of EV repairs involved in accidents! Is there anybody out there who never hah a car accident ?
    Another big issue about EV repairs is the long delay to get spare parts. Elon Musk wants you to buy a new Tesla instead of repairing the damaged one !

    What i can't understand is the media . One day they are winging about global warming and the next telling people not to buy something that will help with it. I guess they need to fill their program with something. The only thing is that, as you say in the US, most is BS.

      @DrewsReviews2023 No, nothing at all . My insurance was a little cheaper, I got a fixed deal for two years. In the UK, we pay a road tax each year on your car. Never heard of you before, but the algorithm just popped up this vid. About tires, of course, if you are heavy on the accelerator, you wear out tires. I bought the Toyota Bz4x, which spends 6 or 7 seconds to get to 100 km/h (60 mph), and even I smile. I'm one of those who did buy the car to save money, and I don't spend 10% of the cars' value each year just buying gas. After 10 years, it would be the same as buying a new car and getting 10 years of gas for 10-20% of the cost, depending on where the electricity prices go in my country. The only sad thing for me is that the inflation makes my payments much more expensive. Everything at once, food, car payments, house payments, heating. It is tough, but I'm still glad I don't have to buy gas.

      @DrewsReviews2023 Okay, well they had many issues at the start, but most of them were sorted out via software updates. Still, second-hand buyers should consider how the charging speed in cold weather affects them, or buy a 2024 model year or later. Still, the 2023 will work fine for me. I only drive long trips in the summer. This time of year, I mostly use it for diving to and from work about 62 km (39 mi) one way.

      @@gunnarparment5050 Yes, I still dont recommend EVs for people who live in apartments. While they don't have to be charged every night, it would be bothersome to go and sit at a charger every couple of days. Charing speeds are important.

    • @gunnarparment5050
      @gunnarparment5050 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @DrewsReviews2023 Definitely. We should all follow Norway with the "right to charge". Everyone in Norway has the right to have a charger installed at their parking. At rental housing, it is the owner of the property that has to make sure the tensnts can charge. Norway has over 90% new car EV sales. In Sweden, where I live, we don't have that legislation, and we have only 40% new car EV sales. Where I live, there are mostly small private owned houses, and my municipality has slightly over 50% new car EV sales. (Without my car, it would have been exactly 50% 😀). (The figures from Norway have many different causes, including no sales tax on EVs, whereas Sweden now has almost no subsidies left since last year.)

What they basically do not try to sell as many ICE as they could while gradually save some finances of that and re-invest in stages. The most of legacy autos work with PARTNERS buiding on their behalf. So the switch is not that easy plus the profitability issues with the distributors / car dealers which are nearly all independent and you get the picture. @@DrewsReviews2023EVSE installs can be expensive depending on the house. Our electric panel is on the opposite side of the house from the garage. A 100amp subpanel, lots of conduit, lots of copper, multiple roof penetrations, and 2 EVSE's cost us about $5000. Did we have to do it that way, no. If money was an issue, we could have just added 1 EVSE and not needed the subpanel and extra copper. But we wanted to do it right and just justified it by telling ourselves the cars just cost about $2000 more each.
      On a related note, if you have solar panels that can charge your car, it can drastically reduce how long it takes to "payback" the cost of going solar. Usually half the time or even faster! It's insane that most people don't factor that into their calculations when deciding to go electric.

    none of those hidden costs were actually debunked. just "rationalized". the reality is all those hidden costs are more expensive on an EV. they still have to be paid. a model 3 and Y are not that much more expensive than a well optioned Camry ($25k is base, most people get at least some options so closer to $30k if not over $30k) or Highlander, yet the insurance is significantly more, like over 50% more. replacing tires every 3 years (and a set of Tesla tires is usually a lot more than just $900 installed these days) instead of every 6 years will negate all the savings from not having to do oil changes every 3 to 6 months. Toyota and Hyundai actually give complementary maintenance for the first 2 and 3 years respectively. repairs are not just more expensive on EVs, but in the case of Tesla, they take much longer to complete so opportunity/time costs too. sure many people will anecdotally say they spent nothing or almost nothing on repairs, but Hertz has to data to show that repairs, even "maintenance" (i'm assuming tires), insurance and depreciation all made their EV "investment" a losing one.
    for EVs to really take off, they are going to have to make both economic and practical sense, especially when subsidies eventually end. if only well off enthusiasts buy Teslas/EVs, that 2035 goal of new EV sales only will never be reached...

      I appreciate you taking the time to comment and I first want to say you have some valid points that are worth considering. I want to point out though, and I do mean this respectfully, but this is worded in such a way that sounds like you do not personally own a Model 3 or Model Y and are also just going based of what you read in headlines. If you do own a model 3 or a Model Y feel free to share, but this simply sounds like someone who is sharing things they heard from the media.
      Speaking as someone who owns a EV and has insured it with several different carriers, the cost can be more expensive than a gas car, but as I mentioned in the video it depends on what you are comparing it to. I have a video showing that I pay $88 per month for a full comprehensive insurance policy. Insurance cost will vary by location, age, driving record and vehicle.
      I also have a video showing the actual cost of my brand new tires for my model S as $1,000 which I bought at the peak of the market, those same tires now sit around $800 for a full set. Tires are not anything crazy.
      To your comment about Hertz not making money and selling their fleet - I believe it was due to the lack of interest in people renting them and less about the maintenance costs. If you have a link to an article where they site maintenance being the core reason they were selling them I will read it. (I am not informed on this piece, and you very well may be correct.)
      I personally don't think we should push everyone to EV's. I think they are fun - but certainly don't think they are for everyone. I agree that they are still too expensive on the purchase price. Once they can get the cost to a 20k EV with reasonable range, I could see there being mass adoption. For now - I just want to be sure to properly inform people that yes EV's are expensive, but no every repair does not cost 5k and no the hidden costs are not groundbreaking.
      Again - truly appreciate you taking the time to comment. It helps to spark good conversation.

      Lol. Do you really think (op) that having tons of rare metals in your car will help? How is this going to play out when quadruple the amount of cars are sold? Any idea how much quadruple is? Do some math, the market share of new ev's is what? You pick a number. Quadruple it. Then you are at ?%? The double that again. The metals alone usually strip mined are a coming choke point for costs.
      btw, henry ford did not invent a world climate change machine, unlike what skyfall showed you.
      i know you will come back with insults, that's fine. But please know I have an earth and atmospheric degree. I trust people like musk will be able to invent smr's and make em work, just like I trust all our environmental remediation companies in the western world have done incredible jobs cleaning the earth. The amount of negative and staggering disinformation with lack of hope (considering the intelligence and computing power we have) is truly sad.

    You’re pro EV. They are just toys. A car is nothing more then transportation. My Honda Civic will take me anyplace your Tesla will take you for a lot less money. My Honda Civic cost $28,000 while the Tesla cost $48,000. The $20,000 price difference buys a lot of gas.

    • @DrewsReviews2023
      @DrewsReviews2023  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have always shared that there are significantly cheaper modes of transportation. That is why I shared at the start of the video I didnt buy my car to save any money. There are plenty of gas cars that are cheaper. The main thing I was trying to point out in this video is that if we compare a similar priced car to a similar priced car - the price variance is similar. If you buy a used model 3 for 22,000. I do actually believe it would be cheaper to operate than your 22,000 honda civic. The insurance cost for my $28,000 model S for example is only $88 per month and for me to drive 17,000 miles this year I only spent $500 on charging and $500 on repairs. Not all that expensive. My main message is that buying EV's is certainly more expensive, but when you buy used EV's it doesnt always have to be. Thanks for the comment.

    What is this video supposed to prove? That electric cars are not expensive? Sorry...that's some misinformation: all of them are more expensive than regular cars. The trick seems to be that Tesla claims to deliver "luxury" cars. What a nonsense - Musk himself was showing off with the unusual high margins Tesla had on each car...basically admitting that they were selling cheaply made cars for a hefty premium - but that doesn't equal luxury. Everything around electric cars - from purchase to insurance to the home charging station installation is expensive and everyone is trying to make as much money as possible from it. It is up to the end user to decide if the convenience of having a car that is always ready to go etc. is worth the extra-money. But there is no point trying to prove that the obvious is not obvious: electric cars are still more expensive than their significantly more complicated ICE counterparts.

    • @DrewsReviews2023
      @DrewsReviews2023  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have never said electric cars arent expensive, I specifically said that they are more costly than a Ford Edge, Camry and Altima. I said, you cant expect to pay the same in insurance costs on a vehicle that costs 30k more. Ev's are expensive. That said, my whole channel is about buying them used, because it makes them more affordable. My Model S with 50k miles on it is 28k which is much more in line with a Honda Accord price.
      My insurance is $88 per month for full coverage, it cost me $500 to install a charging outlet, and last year I drove 17,000 miles and only spent $500 on my charging costs. I will never claim EVs are cheap, but the point I am trying to make is that they aren't astronomical the way the media spins it to be either.
      I think people should drive whatever the want to drive. I also think its lame they are trying to force everyone to drive electric in 10 years. There is a ton of misinformation out there which is what I am trying to correct.
      Electric is fun and gas is fun. But to claim that insurance is 50% more, repairs are always thousands of dollars and you can't buy a EV for 25k is crazy. There are tons of used vehicles that are not as scary as people make them out to be.
      Thanks for the comment. I appreciate hearing all points of view.

      @@DrewsReviews2023 Just to make sure : we have a BMW I3 electric only. Absolutely perfect car for what we got it: driving downtown to work and for shopping etc. and I am actually stunned that it is still among the most efficient cars out there…>10 years after the release. But the entire electric car market is still focused on high margin “luxury” models and great cars like the Chevy Bolt are even taken out of production to get capacity for higher margin cars. Anything Tesla and friends are trying to tell you is wrong: they hype their cars up and sell them for a hefty premium - although they are objectively on the “luxury” level of a cargo van. That’s why I would never buy one those. Honest cheap electric cars are not available right now…you can try to twist that as you like. And no…our charger at home was significantly more expensive than $500…which doesn’t matter to me because the convenience that comes with the always “ready to go” EV is absolutely worth it - but it remains a “luxury” purpose
