The release of 8th edition was a sad day for magic. Functionality is top priority for a game, but it would take WOTC another 15 years to learn that you can have both.
@@kphaxx Sorry, I made an incomplete statement. A good magic card design should have both Fantasy and Function as equals, not one over the other. 8th edition cards had clearer and more readable text (better for gameplay), but the newer card frame prioritized function and was less fantasy. Today we have borderless cards and so many cool variant card frames that add to the gaming experience.
Great video Jake. I think this is a really well structured and thoughtful introduction for new players. I'll know where to point my new-to-the-game friends if I can't explain the game as smoothly as you did.
Loving your videos even though I have been entrenched since 98. Small correct to modern is its from 8th edition and onward, which was 2003.

@@TheGrimKeeperI'm sorry, both of what?

Thanks a lot! I appreciate the compliment.
The ideas you present in your videos are always so well thought out, I really enjoy your takes. Thank you!
Thank you for the kind words. I really appreciate it.
I think it's a good move if you rebranding this channel to MTG Viking. 😂. Love your vids.
Good call I'll have to brandish my axe in the next video. Does that mean I have to play Gruul?
