As far as the 2013 Tomb Raider goes, not once did I think Lara’s constant grunting, sighing, vocal cues meant anything sexual. She gets tossed around like a freakin’ ragdoll most of the game because of her initial combat and survival inexperience, so yeah I’d expect a lot of those sounds to come from a (fictional) human being 🤷🏼♂️
I thought the same thing as you, until the audio of this played in the background while I was studying xD. If you're playing the game, it makes complete sense, but when you just hear the audio without the context of the crazy sequences, I can see the confusion.
Yeah... I played it in front of my wife and daughters. It could be because everyone could see the screen and get the actual context I guess but none of us thought that either. The fight with Poison Ivy in one of the Batman Arkham games though? Yeah, my wife asked if I was sure that my attacks were causing damage because it sounded like Ivy was enjoying them.
What in the hell was that Tomb Raider take? Look mate, if you're getting a stiffy from the audio of all things in a Tomb Raider game then that sounds like a you problem.
Same. He’s really reaching here. Seems weird to shame gamers for playing this. By his logic then you should feel embarrassed for playing every JRPG or Manga game because a lot of the female characters sound sexual when they get hit/take damage

Absolutely. It was - as said in the video - the marketing around it. Remember the life-size Lara statues in video game stores during that time? 😉 And why do you think they're absolutely unaffordable collectibles nowadays...
@DON666 only the media made a thing about Lara its pretty pathetic. Npbody got off on how she was depicted in the game..graphics were so poor back then she barely looked human. I imagine the life size models are valuable because she's a gaming icon
@@jasewildheart I agree about the graphics quality. That's what I implied in my posting. And yes, the statues are iconic and rare - but still also sexy as hell. ;)
Your wife/girlfriend not allowing you to even see games like that is a big red flag! And Falcon is mentioning it about 1 time per game!! Need help, my man?
I think it's fairly normal. It's become sort of a "red flag" nowadays among the younger folks, but it's always been normal behavior on women's part. Older millennials such as Falcon grew up in a time when there wasn't much exposure to such openly and explicitly sexual content. It's only recently that these things have become normalized.
It's okay, some of us were running away from the creepy as all fuck Butler before locking him in the freezer, still doomed to only hear the occasional tinkle of fine china teacups and saucers and spoons and you freeze in fear at 7 years old thinking "Oh crap...am I just hearing him from/though the freezer?.....or did HE ESCAPE AND IS COMING UP THE STAIRS?!?!?!?" 😱😂 Ahh good times, good times.
Back in the 90's, I played the first two Tomb Raider games in PlayStation rentals that were always crowded with people. Most people would play soccer, racing, and fighting games at the time. But nobody would think you were a pervert for playing TR games. Did falcon grow up in fucked up neighborhood or something
@@GwenActually correct...in fact nobody was, it was just a great game. There wasn't anything remotely sexy or sexual about it. Lara looked like a bunch of polygons.
So true!!! If I had to go through all that stuff, bet I’d be making the same sounds!! Surviving in this game (from a story point) is hard! Constantly fighting, taking hits, being tossed around by water, attacked by animals, climbing, running, swimming… imagine her being quiet through all that 😂
Not really. You're saying that probably because you're using the perspective of someone who is playing the game. But if you're using a third person perspective aka someone who is in another room who didn't know that you were playing an action-adventure video game, it's hard not to think that way with all those Lara's screams, moaning and grunting.

Well obviously if someone knows the context of the noise then it wouldn't be weird since its normal to groan when someone is in pain but it would be weird if someone didn't know the context behind the noise and in this case since you are playing on a big ass TV the people around you know why she is making the noise thus it isn't weird to them.

He was spot on regarding WaifuBlade Chronicles 2. People have literally made mods reducing the breast size because it is excessive and kind of creepy on a girl that young. Also Nier Automata has a mod where you can give the character some leggings.
It's not who plays it, it's whoever only hears the sound and doesn't see the screen. I tried it in this video -- just looked the other way for a sec -- and I must admit the effect is profound.
I swear I read somewhere, back in the day, that they were asked to stop grunting so enthusiastically. Like BBC received complaints or something... "Dear points of view, I was recently watching your Wimbledon coverage with my late husband, and I couldn't help but notice the young ladies and their enthusiasm for grunting. That in and of itself is of little issue, but as I looked over to my husband I noticed that he seemed to have been enjoying it, and it offended me greatly. Thus is whence I bludgeoned him with a frying pan, so I am now writing to complain in the hope that you may take pity upon me and help to pay my legal fees for the incident that could have been avoided were the young ladies reprimanded for their grunting. Thank you in advance. Sincerely: Margaret, of the women's institute."
I never understood that one, either. If you have a problem with athletes (of any gender) grunting while playing a physically demanding sport, the problem is with you, not them.
@@djinnxx7050 I'm not sure about the BBC receiving complaints, but I know Wimbledon themselves and the LTA have tried to clamp down on grunting at the tournament. Stellar Blade is not embarrassing. It's a work of art, even my girlfriend looked at me playing it for a bit and then went: "Yeah okay, I get it. Even though Eve IS annoyingly sexy! But I get it".
Stellar Blade. "Impossibly proportioned anime babe". Isn't she based on an actual Korean model, like actual body scans, just with some "anime-ification" of her face? Have people forgotten that hot women exist in real life?
@dustinyoshimaru5612 That is correct. When people started complaining about how unrealistic she looks, the devs posted a video showing the model getting scanned into their system
She is scanned from a real person, but her proportions were also edited to exaggerate certain aspects of her body. Eve to not a one-to-one scan of the model.
@@CiarlaArt Same deal for some other models, like that lass who's the main protagonist in SW Outlaws, or Horizon's Hannah Hoekstra, or Control's Courtney Hope. @@CiarlaArt I am not disagreeing with your statement, but I remember watching a video done by a graphic programmer/editor that showed that the edited proportions was actually in the other direction then exaggerate. I wish I could remember the video but since I don't have a PS, it was just a video that I caught in passing. Now that didn't say anything about the outfits and stuff, but it seemed that when tested, they has actually dialed down the models proportions a tiny bit and it's the outfits that make people think it the other way., Take that with a grain of salt because as I said, I saw the video that dug into it but the whole discussion about the game wasn't really something I was paying a lot of attention to.
I dont want to drag Falcon but, I was thinking maybe DDR, Atlier Ryza, Lego games, nerdy cartoony kiddie games. Not this. Also, Tomb Raider 2013 is a 10/10 classic imo. How do you even sexualize that story? This is like fear of being in the room alone with fictional women.
Atelier Totori was Refused Classification in Australia for a while (apparently due to a passing reference to sexual violence), and while it was reclassified later, Totori Plus was allegedly rated R18+ because of the optional swimsuit costumes. I suspect the costumes earned the hit because the characters wearing them appear to be under-age (although as I recall no age is specified.) It's actually quite common for games with an anime aesthetic to have swimsuits as optional DLC. Almost anything from Gust has them, and many games in the Tales franchise. But, to be fair, it's also common in almost anything with female characters; bikini armour is a trope for a reason.
Yeah I’ve played several of the games on this list with no shame or even thinking it was cringy lol. FFX2 is beloved by many and a LOT of cosplay since it's release. This is reaching. Is playing a game like this a threat to your masculinity? To see this as the number 1 really surprised me. What year is it? Quit shaming yourself over games with adult themes, and who cares if you like them? Nier Automata is a masterpiece. I haven't had such a wonderful time dealing with existentialism in a dystopian world since Chrono Trigger. Everything from the plot to the landscapes to the music is just so beautifully done, leaving the character designs as a side note. Oh no anime android lady has naughty bits. Who cares? If that is the only draw from the game you get aside from robots doing naughty things and the ultimate creation coming from a giant machine vagina, being a creation out of technology, then the point of the game and it's thematic metaphors is lost to pearl-clutching because "girl parts and the act of birth is icky". At least that's what I'm getting out of your complaints. You have a choice: play the game that's rated M for Mature that has more to it than big-beefy-buff-guys with blood, carnage, and explosions (which are fun as all get out: it's fun to be the hunky-boy!), but draw the line at at a woman character's features (over everything else that is solid about their character) as a "I hope my normal-people wife / girlfriend doesn't catch me playing this" scenario says more about your lack of communication with your partner than something you decided to purchase. Talk to your significant other. She's not your mom.
The Tomb Raider reboot I never took as sexual noises. It just came off as over the top which fit the scenario because of how violent each encounter was.
I think its just her voice and a lot of the moans and grunts don't sound like they are painful moans and grunts, just sensual. Not bad/egregious if you're in the room obviously but if you're not... Hence, why I assume its number 10 on the list in the first place.
I'm shocked Hades didn't get a mention, considering you've got Aphrodite who's nude save for her Godiva hair, the rest of the Greek gods are all depicted either as beefcakes, bishounens, waifus, or amazon babes, the Furies are dominatrixes who utilize whips as their primary attacks, Zagreus can romance both Thanatos and Megarae simultaneously, as well as Medusa (though that one doesn't quite go the length), and several of the quest lines involve helping similarly attractive heroes from Greek mythology hook up with their male lovers, or their anthro-tree demigod wives. Game is amazing, but there's a reason several reviewers have posed the question of "You're sure this doesn't need to be tagged as NSFW?"

Why are you complaining about the sounds Laura Croft makes? Did you ever hear the sounds female tennis players make while playing at Wimbledon?
@@djinnxx7050 LOL "thus is whence I bludgeoned him with a frying pan" lmao
I never understood that one, either. If you have a problem with athletes (of any gender) grunting while playing a physically demanding sport, the problem is with you, not them.
Women shouldn't make sounds or move or show skin or yada yada yada. Being female at all is obscene apparently.
@@djinnxx7050 I'm not sure about the BBC receiving complaints, but I know Wimbledon themselves and the LTA have tried to clamp down on grunting at the tournament. There's definitely sensors set up to measure how loud the competitors are as well. Perhaps over a certain volume level they get a warning from the umpire?

All of these characters have touch ups and changes to meet whatever standards the developers feel needs to be met artistically, or to meet whatever criteria they've been given.

I suspect the costumes earned the hit because the characters wearing them appear to be under-age (although as I recall no age is specified.)
It's actually quite common for games with an anime aesthetic to have swimsuits as optional DLC. Almost anything from Gust has them, and many games in the Tales franchise. But, to be fair, it's also common in almost anything with female characters; bikini armour is a trope for a reason.
Yeah I’ve played several of the games on this list with no shame or even thinking it was cringy lol. Low key might play through one of them again soon now that I’m talking about them.
Take a drink every time Lara gets penetrated. Be it wood, rebar, arrow, every goddamn minute she's getting penetrated. I felt the entire game was just egregious loose innuendo.
I mean most of this is just sexual immaturity, even Stellar Blade the argument of impossible body was debunked when they showed the actress/model that does the mocap and the character is a digital scan of her. I think its like seriously some repressed shit they are having issues with, 99% of people i know would watch all of this and not have an issue or bat an eye at it including family, maybe my grandma might make some comment about staring at girlies or something to poke fun a bit but the reality is most people watched game of thrones.

So you are trying to say that games with female protagonist shouldn't be played in front of anyone😂
Basically lol, but if ya have strict parents ya gotta worry about that moaning lmao
Yeah it's a very ridiculous idea. Lol. There's nothing wrong with very attractive women in videos games. No one wants to look at an ugly character 😅
Don't you know that modern bossgirls like Aloy and Elly are only allowed to do masculine grunts and warcries so that the audiences don't misconstrue painful reactions as something else?
scratch: in front of anyone
@@TornadoWhirl33 right? It’s inherently an odd little misogyny type of reaction people have, but that might just be corn that’s got everyone’s minds all goofy on this subject lol
You forgot Catherine. It's a solid puzzle game with some interesting, dark parts of the plot, but most of it is unbelievably cringey.
Yeah, this list was a hit and miss compared to their other lists.
watching this with my door open was a risk
The fact this list made onto the channel is baffling. It seems unnecessarily negative and seems to reach for the smallest reason to bash gamers often using tired stereotypes to do so. Seriously, they need to do better than this as it's just pathetic. I am really disappointed as I usually love what this channel puts out.
Good point. This video says more negative things about us gamers then it does about the games.
Yeah, that's a "You" problem if you think the sounds of pain and terror are "erotic". Pretty sus if you ask me.
I unapologetically love final fantasy 10-2 and i don't care who knows it, or walks in on me playing it. One of my favorite final fantasy games.
Yeah I remember playing it as a kid, didn't remember the whole popstar opening though, I never found it cringey or awkward to play, but I've already seen worse as a kid lol...
@@lololollololol629 The thing about the popstar opening is that it's not Yuna. It's one of the side villains that stole Yuna's dress grid and is using her appearance and popularity to go on a bender. Then Riku and Payne crash the whole thing. It's honestly kind of a great idea and a fun way to start things off with a bit of subversion.
@@kallie6662 I got the remaster on the switch so I will eventually replay it because there's alot I don't remember..
I kneel.
I'm not embarrassed to play anything around non-gamers. I grew up as a kid where being a "gamer", meant you were a nerd.
I couldn't care less what anyone would think of what I'm playing at this point. The sexier and more scantily clad the women? The better. 😄
based 🗿
I never noticed the sound in Tomb raider. now I can't unhear it. 😂😂
I never did either . Still doesn't sound weird to me though
Same I turned it out when I was playing the game
Most normal people don’t
And what should Lara be doing during all these strenuous and stressful activities, recite the Magna Carta? Come on Gameranx - you’re better than this.
The mainstream has programmed men to be afraid of their own straightness. If someone walked in on me playing Stellar Blade I would immediately be like "check out these jiggle physics" and then we'd laugh instead of awkwardly pretending like we're not into it.
feminists convinced all the liberal men to become soy boys.
TBF Nathan Drake made plenty of noises/grunts as well. I think it comes with the territory when you're getting thrown around ancient ruins and falling off mountains.
My roommates ex always hated when he played games with women in them, watched movies or shows with women in them, even having other women as friends... She's a terrible person, the man never cheated or even hinted at having cheated.
@@TySama0 my coworker is like this. He won't let her go even after all the abuse
Pretty much all modern discourse about attractive women in media is because of this, it's the root of all of it.
Was your roommate's ex by chance named Anita?
@@menegene4129 nah.
@@menegene4129 dont be silly she married herself
First 3 shown in this video and its just a bias narrative against people playing games with attractive women and taking shots at people who enjoy that seriously if you don't like games like that fine but insulting people who like something you don't is not cool man I am a big fan of your channel but not cool dude
I don't think he was insulting anyone. Imagine you live in a religious household and you play through one of these games and someone walks in with no context and a raised eyebrow. It's something that millions of gamers deal with. It's funny.
this list makes it seem like these aspects are bad... Isnt there a whole culture war going on right now about stopping the hate that sexualized content gets? also, can we stop with the "imagine your wife or girlfriend walks in and sees you playing this" Its not 2003 anymore. My wife LOVES sexy ladies in games and enjoyed watching me play stelar blade
Agreed
For real. Most women also enjoy hot women.
Thats the confident girl, the ones these people like this weirdo gameranx guy is the unconfident ones
I'd actually be embarrassed playing Abby from Last of Us. Imagine the missus walking in and asking, 'Is that a guy?' 😂
"Impossibly proportioned anime babe." Someone should tell that to the model
Ikr, this guy just hates attractive people in video games
The Tomb Raider reboot I never took as sexual noises. It just came off as over the top which fit the scenario because of how violent each encounter was.
I think its just her voice and a lot of the moans and grunts don't sound like they are painful moans and grunts, just sensual. Not bad/egregious if you're in the room obviously but if you're not... Hence, why I assume its number 10 on the list in the first place.
You forgot the "What are You Doing?" trophy in Nier. Where you've gotta position the camera to look at 2B's butt 10 times haha.
What are you doing, perv?
Yeah hahahah so good
@@JammedClipper I only found out about that one after I had bought the trophy in game hahaha
@cjrensh i did find it the uhmmm...organic way, it just sorta happened 😅
@@JammedClipper *George Takai* "Oh my"
Haha
you guys overthinking the sounds that Lara does... only dirty minded people will be thinking about that cause it never crossed my mind..
And this is a video you don't want someone to walk in the room while watching.
Did people really sexualize grunting, sighing and vocal cues from damage? I mean, i grunt just getting off the couch…weird
We learned too much about Falcon in this video 😝
As a gamer, im not scared to play any game around any person. If i like the game, ima play it.
Testify!
Ah yes, the Stellar Blade. Devs: literally show the process of photographing a real girl into the MC. Narrator: "the fact the pc is an impossibly proportioned anime babe".
Man, you are a joke in more ways than one. You should go out and touch some grass.
Nah, people who play these games have balls.
It used to just be REGULAR SMFH when did it turn into something to be shamed about? 🤡 world
@@thetrashcanman7537 when they started putting more sexualized characters in video games and women started to have problems with it because they don't naturally have boobs that big there are some women who do but they are few and in between so the Society of women started saying some BS about fictional characters and it became harder for us culture kids to play some of these games in public or around our parents because of how they might react
@@jakmccloud2388 maybe just have pride in what you like? "I love big titties, deal with it". There you go. Life's too short to worry about others' opinions, unless they're your employer I guess ...
Very deflated ones...
@@jakmccloud2388Men are just as "sexualized" in video games as women and you don't see us complaining about the characters not looking like us average men. Games like Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter and God Of War all feature super muscular and fit male characters. There tons of more games like this. Men don't complain about it because, we understand it's not the most important part of the game. We care about more important things like the gameplay and story. An attractive female protagonist is just a bonus. An aesthetic.
To be fair Lara is pretty heavily wounded for most of the 2013 game, any climbing or falling or w/e probably hurt like hell every time.
True you got a point!
Guitar Hero ... nothing better than a middle aged man jumping through the living room with a plastic guitar when someone walks in
This video is a horrible take on the aesthetics of video games. Creativity should be explored and appreciated, not embarrassed and ashamed by, and why? Just because like 5% of all video games ever made have something goofy, sexualized, or cringe? You can’t complain modern games are too predictable and normal now, while also criticizing the creative choices developers made a decade plus ago. Life is strange is not my cup of tea, but I don’t get how it’s cringe to play as a teenage girl, or women with busty chests.
It just seems like you’re enforcing this idea that playing unconventional games is frowned upon
It’s probably because Lollipop Chainsaw’s remake or remaster is about to come out.
Honestly I think almost every take in this video was bad, but I think Falcon is trying to jump on the buzz… in a super weird/socially awkward and indirect way.
Frowned upon Mainly by a significant other.
I never once thought Tomb Raider (2013) was even a little bit provocative... now I can't unhear it. Thanks, Falcon.
Honestly I never realized that with Tomb Raider until this video, and no I am far from innocent.
Yup, Life is Strange CAN make a grown man cry. It's a great game! BUT... none of the prequels, sequels, or side stories live up to the first game. Each fails in different ways but yeah, just play the first game and be happy.
"Why I stopped playing JRPGs" would be a good title for the video.
I really enjoyed Life is Strange, It was a different kind of storytelling that I didn't expect from a video game
i love it as well, but i do see where it can be weird, especially the 1st one.
@@themorningstar126 I didn't play much of the first one, I really enjoyed Before the Storm though
@TihetrisWeathersby yeah, the 1st one is a bit cringe and weird. like there's a literal scene where Max is in the shower. You don't actually see anything, but the idea of a 18 year old in the shower being a main scene is a bit weird.
I played that game with my Teenage daughter, we had a great time.
2 things. 1, I absolutely loved Final Fantasy X-2. And 2, my mom's watched me play Bayonetta and was laughing her ass off.
The mai character you play in Stellar Blade is actually based on the creators wife. Yes, she looks like that irl. She has even worn the costume in the game.
this is a personal one of mine but for me my choice used to be Hatsune Miku Project Diva, i used to be so embarrassed that i love Hatsune Miku and vocaloid as much as i do but over time, i've become such a huge fan of Hatsune Miku and vocaloid in general that i've grown to not care what people say about it (i love what i love) Don't let other people make fun of you for what you like :)
Summertime Saga is the one game a non-gamer wouldn't get
Shh dont talk about that game
This man said “suffiss to say” 10:00 😂😂😂
18:15 "At the very least, you could play as one of the few dudes"
DOA 5 had a 3:4 ratio of male to female characters (15 guys, 21 girls). If you leave out the guest characters, that becomes an even closer 13 guys and 17 girls. It's still unbalanced, but not as much as you might expect. And the gameplay is quite good and accessible - easy to button mash if you're new, with deep combos and mechanics if you're used to fighting games. I play it with my wife regularly, and while we both agree the costumes can get ridiculous (for both the females AND males), the gameplay is strong enough and the good costumes are good enough that we enjoy it quite a bit overall.
My partner walked near me and I was ready to turn my phone away so that will tell you 😭
Other good mentions would be
lollipop chainsaw it’s literally a 18 year old girl in a cheerleader outfit saying all kinds of smexy things and killing zombies with a chainsaw
Obviously it was awesome
Then there way blood rayne which isn’t as bad as the first but still really awkward considering it was a half naked vampire that would say flirty things to her Enemies before sucking their blood
And yes that game was totally awesome too
