I can't answer for Jeff, and I would give anything if i could walk, never mind race walk. Since 2012, I have had 7 major spinal operations. They have left me with a lower left leg that has virtual no nerve response when I was tested, poor balance and the inabilty to walk unsupported. i use a walker, Nordic poles and wheelchair. It hasn't stopped me from coaching and staying involved in the sport i love.
Sadly, I'm a walking disaster. I recently tried just doing exercises to get ready to race walk a little. I wanted to do the 5k people's walk at the world team championship. Never got out of the gate. l blew something up in my foot. I have a long series of issues. Knee surgery, four hernias and more. I'm meant to help from the sidelines
