    If you compare bitrates/, the processors of both cameras, you'll see the Olympus camera beats the Panasonic by far.

    Thanks for this. The -2 sharpness trick is a life saver! I assume it's a global setting, since setting it also seemed to affect video.

      It applies it to the picture profile, I believe, so it should be a global setting.

    Do u have any opinions on the Panasonic lumix G7? I was in between the Olympus OD-M E-M mark iii and the lumix G7… My main focus in taking 4K videos for some sports and maybe some vlogging but I know the g7 doesn’t have a good stabilization and focus but I also heard good things about it. Any thoughts? Or do you recommend any other cameras under $700 with the same aesthetic look as the g7 and Olympus

    • @TheBudgetFilmmaker
      @TheBudgetFilmmaker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I had the G7 and might do a review on it sometime. The G7 is more or less the same as a G85 minus IBIS. So yes, good sensor with 100MBits UHD, but low bitrate HD.
      If you need IBIS go with the G85, it's the same image and features a audio input.
      But for 700 bucks you could easily get a used GH4, and that camera is a level above them all. Amazing battery life, great 4K and HD options. You can add VLogL and and if you want record 10Bit externally (despite the bad Micro-HDMI).
      If crips 4K is your goal, any Panasonic will deliver. It's just a matter of features. I guess if you do sports an IBIS would be nice, so maybe a G85, GX85 or M10III are good options for you.
      Hope this helps.

    is it a good option in 2024 for entry level and shooting youtube videos indoor ?

  • @stevenaustin4591
    @stevenaustin4591 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I got 2 questions for this camera
    1 - how long does the battery last when shooting video?
    and 2 - how does it look when shooting indoors in low light?

    • @TheBudgetFilmmaker
      @TheBudgetFilmmaker  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      1 - depends on shooting style. On-off it lasts for some hours. Didn't have to recharge once for this review.
      2 - same sensor as the GX80, so you can check out my review of that camera. Should be the same performance. It's an older sensor so I would advise to not go much higher than ISO 1600.

    GX-85 with a sigma 16mm 1.4 and your phone with an attached USB microphone as a audio recorder.
    GX 85 doesn't have mic input, that doesn't matter because you can get your phone stick it on top of the GX 85 with a holder in hotshoe. You can record B footage with your phone or use a microphone and a audio mixer app.
    I had a GX 85 and a GH5. The GX-85 is plenty enough unless you're Christopher Nolan

    • @TheBudgetFilmmaker
      @TheBudgetFilmmaker  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There many good workarounds, that one sounds interesting.
      The missing mic input is not that important if you shoot interviews or fictional content in my opinion, since I would record externally anyway.

    Hi, I tried the setting you used but my footage does not seem to be smooth as you are. Even using -2 sharpness. Same camera and lens as well 12-40 Pro. Does it because you have already used LUT for your footage?

    • @TheBudgetFilmmaker
      @TheBudgetFilmmaker  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No the LUT has no effect on the sharpness of the footage. Weird that your footage is still oversharpened. What format and color profile are you using?

    Which one : Lumix Gx9 or olympus em-10 mark 3 ?
    Olympus 500€ with one Lens and Lumix 700€ with 3 Lens and second battery
    It's for 60% vidéo / clips and vanlife style and 40% photos.
    Thanks !!!!!! 🙂

      If video is more important I would definitely the GX9, simply better video quality. But also 20MP for photos on the GX9 vs 16MP on the Olympus.

      @@TheBudgetFilmmaker I was looking for decent autofocus facility in a blogging camera. Do you think panasonic gh5 will be right choice?

    • @TheBudgetFilmmaker
      @TheBudgetFilmmaker  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If autofocus is your main concern, the GH5 surely isn't the gold standard. It's a great filmmaking tool with stunning IQ, but the AF performs mediocre. The newer GH5II seems to be better in that department. Canon and Sony cameras also feature great AF in their newer cameras. I tested the Sony A7c, the AF is excellent on that camera, but sadly only 8Bit video. But for vlogging it should be a good camera.
      I may do a review on the A7c in the future if you are interested.

    Im new to photography, currently thinking about buy the mark 2 or 3. They claim the only difference is the 4k video recording. What would you suggest?

    • @TheBudgetFilmmaker
      @TheBudgetFilmmaker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I would go for the 4K. Even if you don't need it all the time, it's good to have it when needed and the quality is quite good.

    How about subject tracking? Does it miss on the shaking object?

    • @TheBudgetFilmmaker
      @TheBudgetFilmmaker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't seen subject tracking while testing, I would have to check that I get the camera again. But in all honesty, the AF is not impressive, I never used it, even with single-point AF.

    • @WSS_the_OG
      @WSS_the_OG 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It drifts a bit if the subject moves or changes distance any faster than "slowly." You have to plan things and be deliberate with this camera when recording moving objects.

    • @fusionmaniagroup
      @fusionmaniagroup 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This all has been the issue with my em5 mkii as well. Lovely camera but Tracking and Continuous Focus is the bad part for me as I do more of videos and because of that issue I need to see myself as a mandate...

    Hello Joe. I was wondering why the video you shot is 24 fps and looks laggy in the video as compared to films shot in 24 fps. As like your hand movement looks like some frame is skipped

    • @TheBudgetFilmmaker
      @TheBudgetFilmmaker  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm... not sure what you mean. Could you refer to a timestamp? I shot everything in 25p, not 24p. Could be a display issue? Or maybe you are referring to the jittery looking motion that you get from high shutter speed? Motion blur smoothes out fast motion and since I didn't have an ND filter with me, I just upped the shutter speed for proper exposure. Because I don't see any dropped frames or jerky artifacts on my displays, besides the high shutter.

    • @sciencio
      @sciencio 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheBudgetFilmmaker Oh! It must be the high shutter. How do I enable motion Blur in cameras?

    • @TheBudgetFilmmaker
      @TheBudgetFilmmaker  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need to set the shutter to twice the framerate. So if you shoot at 25p, set it to 1/50, at 30p to 1/60 and so on. Since these slow shutter speeds brighten up the image quite a lot you need NDs to darken the image when shooting outside.

    Hi Joe, I have a questions, I have the Olympus EM10 Mark III can you tell me if you this camera
    and you pair it with a EF adapter to mount Canon lens, when taking photos or video, when the canon
    lens has IS, if you want to use the IBIS on the Olympus would you need to turn the lens IS off, or does
    it both work together and have it both functional. For more steady shots.

    • @TheBudgetFilmmaker
      @TheBudgetFilmmaker  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, it's IBIS only on adapted lenses. You need a native Olympus lens for Sync IS.

    • @amybella
      @amybella 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheBudgetFilmmaker So if you using a canon lens, do we switch it to OFF for IS on the lens, if you put ON would it cancel the IBIS on Olympus, whats the best option for non native lenses OFF or ON.

    • @TheBudgetFilmmaker
      @TheBudgetFilmmaker  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@amybella Yes, switch off the IS on the lens and use the IBIS. The IBIS only works better than the IS on the lens.
