    I wish I'd found your video earlier. It's a pity that manufacturers provide nothing but the most basic instructions for using their cameras which we pay a lot of money to buy. Yours is the ONLY video I've found which is not a 'review' by 'experts' which to be honest are useless for novices such as myself. Well done Shutterbug 101 - so very helpful, I was on the verge of giving up with this camera and its 'difficult ' menus etc. I'm already feeling more confident about using the camera.

    I just bought one of these cameras as I already have an Olympus Om 4 from some years ago with lenses etc. and so liked the camera type.
    So, I also bought the 12-150mm lens as an all round lens solution.........at the same time I bought an OM to M4/3 adaptor so that I can use all the OM lenses I already had with my old film camera......there are hundreds of OM lenses out there going cheap.....A$25 for a 50mm F1.2 is a bargain time...... but with an adaptor at A$24 on EBAY they will work even though with manual focus and aperture.....and extension tubes and/or bellows for ultra close ups are 2 a penny in OM style.
    Back in the film days Nikon lenses were worth a king's ransom but today with an adaptor......pennies.

    Really nice overview! Have you had any experience in using this camera, or similar Olympus ones, with the 4/3rds to Micro adapter from Olympus (MMF) or aftermarket versions? Its probably not ideal to use an adapter but it will take me some time to migrate my various 4/3rds lens to the Micro versions.

    Great walk through. Just bought this camera and that has helped a lot to get me started. Just bought the Viltrox adapter so I can use my other lenses, will this give me any issues?

    • @Shutterbug101
      @Shutterbug101  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Typically adapting lenses that are a different mount to any camera will cut down on focusing speed/ability and photo quality, so if you do find that you are unhappy with those issues, keep in mind it’s not the camera, nor the lens, it’s just that the lens was not designed to work with an Olympus system. So it will function but it may not function well lol.

    • @Shutterbug101
      @Shutterbug101  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe this would be a good camera, but you may need to invest in a wider angle lens for real estate. I recommend the Panasonic 7-14mm (yes, its a Panasonic lens but will still work with the Olympus cameras). I will leave the link to it as well, and please let me know if you have any other questions!

    thank you for a great insight into this camera, which i am considering buying. I was hoping to see the tilting view screen in action. am i right in thinking it tilts in both directions up and down, so you can see what you are shooting from above or below? This sounds like a great feature I have not seen. I have a Nikon DSLR which is big and bulky, and I haven't used for a few years. I would love to replace it with something lighter, which can also be used as an automatic point and snap style camera. i love the thought of the video function too, and was also interested to hear that there is a sort of macro function, which I didn't fully understand so shall watch again.
    Also, would you suggest buying a kit with an extra lens? I have seen one in the UK with a 40 - 150mm lens.
    Thank you again for a very in depth review.

    • @Shutterbug101
      @Shutterbug101  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for watching! The screen does indeed tilt both up and down for those perspectives. Buying the kit with the telephoto lens would be up to your shooting preference. If you want the options to take photos of birds in your backyard or you just want to reach a bit farther than the other lens would get you then it would be a great option for you! If your primary use is for things fairly close to you and you don’t think you will use the zoom, then go with the one lens kit. Either way, I think you will enjoy this camera! Let me know if you have any other questions!

      So sorry to hear this! Because this lens has the motor that extends it, if it takes an impact, or dirt/dust/moisture lands on the barrel before it retracts, the motor can get damaged or gummed up and stop working. This is common in any electronic zoom lens unfortunately. I would take it to a camera store near you to see if they can see if the motor is dead or if it just needs some assistance, but most likely you may need to invest in a new lens. While this camera does not have individual options to change like shadows/highlights like fujifilm cameras do, it does have an HDR setting to help. As for aspect ratio, I do not believe it has any other option than 16:9.

    Nice job. You went a little too fast for me.

      My apologies! I try to keep it at a pace that is easy to follow but not so slow that the viewer gets bored and moves on, but I will be sure to try and go a smidge slower in my future videos!

      @@Shutterbug101 Hi again. Which is the best setup? 1 spot, 9, or the entire grid.I have had the E-M10 Mark III for about 6 weeks and really enjoy it. I have the Canon M6 Mark II which is a great camera as well. Do you think it makes sense to trade my Olympus for the Mark IV that is coming soon? Thanks, Gene

      When it comes to your focusing area, it all depends on what your capturing and how much you would like it to try and grab focus. Think of it like this: your taking a photo of a person standing from head to toe in the frame, the entire grid is for whole body/front priority, 9 grid would be for the upper body or face, 1 spot would be for the nose/eye. The more you narrow it down in numbers, the more specific you can be with your focusing! The mark IV’s biggest differences from the Mark III is that it has 20mp vs the 16mp rate so sharper images but less low light capability, has a 15 FPS continuous drive vs the 8.5 FPS, and is a bit lighter than the mark III. It’s all preference, but over all very similar features and the same processor. You will just have to determine if those changes are worth the exchange! Let me know if you have any other questions!
