It's my favourite movie. Data's actor just got an award in "everything, everywhere, all at once," and he said goonies never say die
I like to think Sloth and Chunk are living their best life in apartment together, eating rocky road and Baby Ruth's watching Superman
I'd like to see a TV show made of that but knowing how 'politically correct' everything now has to be, Chunk and Sloth will undoubtedly be depicted as gay lovers...
And Errol Flynn movies.
That's a good Sitcom pitch
I got teary eyed at the part where Chunk tells Sloth that he loves him and is going to live with him too.
"Sloth got a home" Probably my favorite reaction to this yet!
When I was 4 years old, there were 3 movies I watched over and over again on VHS (recorded from TV): "The Goonies", "The Dark Crystal", and "Short Circuit". All 3 still hold a special place in my heart, but "The Goonies" and "The Dark Crystal" I find myself revisiting the most.
Short Circuit is another great one. 5 IS ALIVE!!!
dark crystal too creepy
Nice list.
Did we grow up in the same home? omg. lol.
My man! Me too! Short Circuit was my jam & Dark Crystal opened me up to a whole new world of storytelling. I really enjoyed the Dark Crystal Netflix series too!
In the 70's there was a children's educational show that came on every week day after Sesame Street called The Electric Company. Regular cast members on this show included Bill Cosby, Morgan Freeman, Rita Moreno and others.
At the start of each episode, right before the theme song you'd hear someone yell, "Hey you guys!!!"
I always preferred The Electric Company to Sesame Street. "We're gonna turn it on!"
Electric Company was a huge part of my childhood!
Electric Company is what the smarter kids like. I might have come across it once
Bill Cosby’s “Picture Pages” was my favorite part of any childhood show, EVER!!!
This movie never gets old. It just gets better with every viewing.
This movie will forever occupy a permanent spot in my top 5 movies list, I don't care what else has come out before or comes out since. This movie practically defines my childhood
AGREED! It's my childhood.
" Sloth got a home??? "
Thats why we love your reactions my man
"Don't you realize? The next time you see sky, it'll be over another town. The next time you take a test, it'll be in some other school. Our parents, they want the best of stuff for us. But right now, they got to do what's right for them. Because it's their time. Their time! Up there! Down here, it's our time. It's our time down here. That's all over the second we ride up Troy's bucket."
Fun Fact: The novelization of the movie confirms that Chunk's parents actually do "adopt" Sloth, going so far as to throw him a Bar Mitzvah.
Heartbreaking Fact: According to Sean Astin, he was allowed to keep the treasure map used in the film. Several years later his mother Patty Duke (an actress herself) discovered it, thought it was just a crinkled piece of paper, and threw it in the bin.
Historical Fact: The Fratellis are loosely based off Ma Barker and the Barker-Karpis gang during the "public enemy era" of America crime history. While Ma Barker's leadership is in dispute, she was definitely an accomplish to the gang's many robberies and murders. Ma Barker and the gang met their end in a house off Lake Weir in Florida. You should read more about them.
The Inferno Fact: One Eyed Willie's ship was 105 feet long and took 2-1/2 months to construct. It was modeled after Errol Flynn's ship in The Sea Hawk (1940). The sails required more than 7,000 sq. ft. of material, the largest measured 30 ft. by 60 ft. The cast was not allowed to see the pirate ship before the scene was shot, as director Richard Donner wanted to catch their genuine reactions at the size and scope of it. When they did see it, Josh Brolin was so surprised that he exclaimed "Holy shit!" without thinking. The scene had to be re-shot. When filming ended, some of the ship's rigging was recycled for the "Pirates Of The Caribbean" ship at Disneyland, which was being renovated at the time.
WOW!! Thank you for sharing that, I would have been heartbroken at losing the map
Sarah Ormerod ...You're welcome! 😁
Yeah, the loss of the map was extremely heartbreaking.
Go in Peace and Walk with God. 😎 👍
John Matuszak who played Sloth was a defensive end for the Oakland Raiders and helped them win a Superbowl! He acted in many other shows, but sadly passed away in 1989 at the age of 38 :'(
It's so weird to think that I've outlived one of the heroes from my favorite childhood movies...
Man went from being scared of sloth as a kid to almost crying when he got a home thats a hell of a turn around
''We have Thanos and a Hobbit...'' You had me at that line
I haven't shed a tear to Goonies in years. This reaction broke that streak. Great as always!
Especially over Sloth getting a home. I've never seen someone get emotional over that moment before, and I love it
Same - seeing the big guy get emotional at the end made me cry.
RIP, Richard Donner. He made on of my favorite kids movies., SUPERMAN 78.
R.I.p 🙏
One of my favorite movies still and I'm 50.
"Where'd he get a Superman shirt?" This movie was directed by Richard Donner who directed Superman The Movie (1978) starring Christopher Reeve, so that little gag is a nod to his previous film.
Goonies never say Die!☠
Never gets old. The part with "I love you Chunk" still makes me tear up. I identified with Mikey so much, though.
I know it's not popular to say these days, unfortunatly, but if there was ever a sequel, I'd really like to see a 'female Mikey'.
Whenever Sloth's face lights up over anything, and his ears start to wiggle, I just want to give the big guy a hug (even though he stank)!
The friendship/found family between him and Chunk is really sweet.
After hearing how Sloth jump scared you as a child and gave you nightmares (understandable under your circumstances), I'm so happy to see your reaction @ 40:00 calling him the GOAT. Sloth has the best character arch in the movie for sure ❤
HEEEEYYYY YOU GUYS! Who's ready for Goonies?! It's good enough for me!
Meeee!!!!
Love your name =P
Your reaction to Sloth is one of the most heartwarming reactions I’ve ever seen. Dude, I love you. You are a beautiful soul. ❤️
Loved your reaction to Sloth. He was kind and pure through and through.
He would most likely have been institutionalized had Mama Fratelli not been a career criminal, and he likely would have been upon the Fratelli’s arrest, also.
We don’t see Chunk discussing the matter with his parents, but it can be assumed he did, and if a judge awards them custody, Sloth will have had a beautiful rest of his life-perhaps even being included on several more Goonie adventures.
The crew giggled silently every time someone said “One Eyed Willie”.
I grew up in Astoria. The Goonies is required watching. If a new kid in school hadn't seen it, the teacher would bring in the TV and we would have a movie day. This happened several times in middle school and once in high school.
So glad you loved this movie, it literally is my childhood.
Goonies Never Say Die.
You're a real one. I don't think I've ever heard anyone ever getting emotional about Sloth getting a real home. Love your reaction to this amazing movie. This was THE adventure movie when I was a kid. Good on you watching it finally.
yep...thats Thanos
the guy who played Sloth was John Matuzak, a famous member of the Oakland Raiders...
The beginning of Cindy Lauper's music reign in my humble opinion. Love the soundtrack to this movie!
isn't it strange, the things that tug at our heart strings? That tiny little interaction with Chunk and Sloth at the end is great, isn't it?
I guess you never know when a movie is going to be a cultural touchstone. Certainly everyone "of a certain age" knows and loves this one.
I saw this as a little kid in the theater, and it's no less magical now. And J's reaction to Sloth at the end choked me up too. What a great movie, I knew J was gonna dig it.
Those 3 lines "Sit Down!!"..."There's your water!"....and "It's wet ain't it? DRINK IT!" I use those lines all the time haha
You are right about the music. The soundtrack of the movie is very underrated. Some parts are really magical as you said. Another example would be the scene when they find the map in the loft.
Theme song is one of thee best imo
I attack my friends too when they tell me they’ve never watched The Goonies, the look on my face is always of shock and pure disgust🤣😂
It's a sin honestly lol
Now that you have watched Goonies and Kindergarten Cop, you need to watch Short Circuit and complete the 80s Astoria Trifecta.
Next, we need to see some Encino Man ❤ Brendan Frasier and Sean Astin aka Sam from the Shire and Pauley Shore. So 90s. So good.
YES! JL recognizing Thanos right away! 🎉
Sean Astin nailing those monologs even back in the day!
You were so into the movie you forgot to tell us to shut up after you jumped. Happy you enjoyed it! ☺️🔥
This movie makes me Reminisce about being a kid in the 80's. The footie pj's, sippy's, sleep overs etc.
The actor who plays Data (Ke Huy Quan) was just in Everything, Everywhere, All At Once - his first acting role in years. He's incredible in it!
R.I.P. John Matusszak. I liked him as a player and as an actor. "Ice Pirates", "North Dallas Forty", and "One Crazy Summer" are some overlooked movies he was in. Great movie and a great review.
I totally forgot he was in One Crazy Summer! I need to re-watch that one.
Was he in CAVEMAN or was that Alzedo
@@bigjay123 I had to look it up, but yes, that was Matuszak as well. Really had an impact on film nearly as much as he did on sports.
@@bigjay123 Nope, that was John. That is a movie most people don't remember. lol They see Ringo on the cover of the VHS and walked by it. He had some good support in it though, Dennis Quaid and Shelley Long.
Chunk called it an ORV - Off Road Vehicle.
Great movie choice by the way. This has always been one of my favorites and never gets old.
Predates the SUV.
When I was growing up, if you went to the vcr and hit eject this was one of 3 movies that would usually be in there. Back to the future and spaceballs were the other two!
"Oh, we're gonna whoop his ass next time we see him. I don't care where we at. Church, the mall, family reunion. Don't care." lol
Best kids movie EVER. So glad you finally got to see it and discover its magic. I miss good old fashioned adventure movies. Raiders, The Goonies, The Mummy...they all have that certain "thing" that makes them stand out. So good.
orv = off road vehicle. I guess that's hat they called them before they settled on "suv"
One of my all-time favs. Tried to post a link to my Goonies prop collection, but it wouldn't let me. I would post a link to my Goonies t-shirts I've made (including the OG - Original Goonie), if I could.
I even wrote a sequel for Goonies, which is about their kids going on the adventure. A shame that WB wouldn't take the script. I was talking with Robert Davi (the one who played Jake Fratelli) just the other day regarding my script. Maybe one day.
Goonies never say die!
Oh, and if you liked Goonies, be sure to check out The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, and The Last Starfighter.
Ke Huy Quan is now an Oscar winner.
❤️
The bad guys mom played in the movie Don't Throw Momma from the Train, comedy thriller.
Great movie
Richard donner putting the Superman shirt in there was perfect. RIP legend
The woman that plays Mama Fratelli is also in another film with Danny DiVito and Billy Crystal called Throw Mama from the Train. Watch it. It is criminally underrated and HILARIOUS. She (Anne Ramsey) normally played very gruff characters, but apparently in real life she was incredibly sweet.
In the novelization of the film, the ending revealed that Sloth was officially adopted by Chunk's family and was renamed Jason Sloth Cohen.
When I was a kid I was terrified of the old lady so it took me a long time to not think of it as a horror movie
If J is a fan of Sean Astin, maybe "Rudy"(1993) would be a fun watch?
The Hardy Boys was a series of kid's mystery books that they made into a tv show in the 70's.
Yet to me the Hardy Boys will always be Matt and Jeff :P
I was 11 years old when I saw The Goonies in theaters; growing up in the 80's, we had some of the best films ever! Great reaction as always, thanks for sharing!😁💯
28:18 Baby Ruth minis … check em out. Ya only live once my dude
Director Richard Donner also directed Superman the Movie with C. Reeves. I think the Sloth Superman shirt was a callback to that film. Nice little touch. Thanks for reacting!
ORV=Off-Road Vehicle
Used before SUV=Sport Utility Vehicle 🚗 16:23
The mama in this is in another comedy called Throw Mama From The Train, with Danny DeVito and Billy Crystal. Watch that one when you need a good laugh.
The Goonies director also directed Superman that’s why Sloth is wearing a Superman shirt. They even play a bit of the Superman theme music when Sloth shows off his Superman shirt.
The whole young cast. My childhood in every aspect. Dream everyone, dream folks.
Bruh, you look great for 60 💪🏾👴🏾
He'll love this comment. LMAO
I’m 40. When people come here to be rude they always say the same thing to me… “it’s no way you ain’t seen this. Look at your beard your at least 60”.
@@J_EOMReacts We’re about the same age. My beard is grey too. Shits real.
Great reaction! The Hardy Boys were books about teen ages brothers who solved crimes and it was adapted to a tv series. Nancy Drew was the same thing for younger girls.
This is my favorite movie of all time! Always puts me in a good mood. So glad you enjoyed it!
Sloth was played by the ex football player John Matuszak. He played for the Raiders back in the day. He was a wild man.
If he is 60 years old he would have been 22yo when the Goonies was released in theaters.
I don’t think sloth scared him as a child.
I like how a movie about treasure on the coast is regaining popularity after the discovery of the very thing that inspired the movie in the first place on the coast. xD
they don't make movies like that anymore... when i saw your thumbnail for this, i got so excited for you! there was no way you weren't gonna love this. so fun, so much heart.
Chunk was saying ORV ( off road vehicle). Took me a couple times seeing it to catch it
This movie was my childhood! This, Dark Crystal, and Swiss Family Robinson were movies id rewatch every day after school
Anne Ramsey was funny as hell. You should watch Throw Momma From The Train. It also stars Billy Crystal and Danny Devito.
spielberg is so good at villains too, the fratellis, always memorable n hilarious n useless
ineresting fact: in the beginning when he couldnt open the door to the car, that wasnt in the script, he couldnt open it n they changed the scene accordingly
So glad you loved The Goonies! Awesome reaction as usual. 👍🏼👏🏼💕 love Sloth! Quite the cast!
I've seen the Goonies a hundred times and only cried once.....now twice, lovely reaction 🥰
He's saying ORV. Off road vehicle. The term suv hadn't been coined yet.
CLASSIC. I have a Goonies T-shirt and every time I wear it someone comments on it. Such a great adventure story. There is a Goldbergs episode where they try to recreate the Goonies and the studio still had wardrobe and props that they were allowed to use including Chunk's shirt which was actually a woman's blouse.
Thank you JL. This is exactly what I needed and this is why The Goonies is one of my top 3 of all time. Having one of the worst weeks, which is why I missed this Monday because I would have been there for this naturally being one of my favorites (both you and Goonies). The Goonies has always been the “comfort food” of movies. That movie you can pull out anytime, whether it’s a month, a year, 5 years or 10 years from now and still every aspect of it that made you fall in love with it from the very first time you saw it will make you laugh, smile, or cry but in the end it will brighten your day. Hell watching it through your eyes, made me forget about my issues for a short time and that’s the magic of this film for me. Definitely a film that has a lot of behind the scenes trivia I could talk about which may have been mentioned in the comments, which sadly I have not read through (sorry not in the proper mindset atm). Respect and Love to you, Blank, Co-Pilots and the E.O.M. Family!!
Oh , This movie has such a special place in my heart. I do hope you enjoy!
I forgot how bad Mouth's version of Spanish is... Just hilarious!!!!😂😂😂
there was something magical in the air in the 80s. watching this as a kid the same age as the actors made this film, well.....ours...it was our time back then.....just like the kid said.. It was my generation and as horrible as i grew up back then the films were a wonderful escape from the hell i was living in.
Great video! You should watch "Throw Momma From the Train" 1987, its got some of the same cast and not a lot of people are talking about that one these days. Thanks for the upload.
If you ever watch Jurassic Park you’ll see Dennis Nedry wears Mouths Member only Jacket, Mikey’s raincoat and Chunks Hawaiian shirt. Also Chunk had the chicken pox when he did the truffle shuffle.
38:36
The movie's director...Richard Donner
(He also directed the first Superman movie)
I love this whole movie, but this is my favorite part!
"If it stinks I ain't worried about kissing u" 🤣🤣 I'm with u man if it's stinks down yonder...ABORT ABORT
LMAO... "Hey man, drop-kick yo' mama". Too funny.
I'm 46 and have seen several thousand movies. Sloth is easily one of my favorite characters ever.
I love your reaction to this - Its a trip still seeing Sean and Josh so young! But? You can see how Sean is sooooo good at those speeches of Sam's! I'd love to be a Goonie! I am one at heart lol. That's what I said....
The Hardy Boys was a series of young adult novels about 2 brothers that solved mysteries. It was made into a TV show.
My friend was in the Monster Squad. He played Eugene.
That One-eyed Willy part made me lol for real.
Greatest movie of my childhood. I rewatch this every few months.
Fun fact: in one of the "Goonies" deleted scenes, a giant squid was in the water around One-Eyed Willy's ship. I don't remember how the Goonies dealt with the giant squid, but it was definitely an interesting scene.
Update: I decided to look it up on TH-cam.
So 1) it was a giant OCTOPUS, not a squid.
2) The Goonies are unaware of it until it gets frisky with the other girl and pokes its head out of the water.
And 3) the Goonies "defeat" it with the power of music, which causes it to swim-dance off into the metaphorical sunset.
The Hardy Boys were a series of books designed for kids as teenage detectives. Also, Nancy Drew. They were made in the 50's or 60's but later turned into TV shows
The Goonie House in Astoria, Oregon is currently for sale. The price is: $1.7 million.
I had the chance to buy it about ten years back for about $250,000 - wish I had!!!!
“I feel like I’m babysitting but not getting”, “shame, shame I know your name”. I love Goonies so much I read the book, watched the one with the octopus, watched while the comments were running and could still quote line for line, and I watch it a couple of times a year.
YES!!! This movie is Everything ❤️❤️❤️
AGREED!!!
He rushes his dialogue, so it’s hard to hear, but Chunk called the Fratelli’s truck an ORV-off-road vehicle, what people used to call an SUV.
Baby Ruth are SO good, you're definitely missing out
The criminal mom in this is also the mom in Throw Momma from the Train with Danny DeVito and Billy Crystal (She's also briefly in Scrooged). Love that movie
The director was Richard Donner, who just did Superman right before this, so he got that fun reference in here.
"HEY YOU GUYS" !!! An O.R.V. Off Road Vehicle
I wish they would have updated it where they claim the ship and got the money.
