I have been drinking WT 101 rye more than anything else in the past 6 months. It’s become my go to whiskey. Love it and for $21 a bottle it’s hard to beat.
I just picked up a bottle of WT 101 RYE at the Total Wine in Denver. So cool you're in CO now. Wish I could've found the OF 100 Rye, I definitely prefer that one.

I bought a bottle of that years ago, wasn't that impressed, I remember. But when I came back to it a couple of weeks ago I even preferred it of the Bourbon 101. So either this SOB gets better with time or I get more and more accustomed to Rye ;)
Lol… I make my own whiskies. Corn and barley based age quicker but take a while. Rye won’t even begin to taste good for a couple of years… And even then is still immature tasting. When he read the bottle it said “extra aged”… Not sure what that translates into.🤷♂️ Bourbon must be 3 years. Extra aged??? 3.5???? Could mean anything. I would prefer an age statement. Even though that’s only an indicator. But I would tend to agree… even spending more time in the bottle helps. And rye is definitely an acquired taste.😊👍🥃

Good review., thanks for doing it and posting it. Forgive me or hate me, I prefer rye (even barely legals) to bourbon. WT 101 Rye beats WT 101 bourbon for me. I like sipping the WT 101 Rye neat, and it’s good for mixing, as well. It was in short supply as little as the beginning of the year (2021), but is starting to show up in good supply at the stores I frequently visit. Are there better Ryes out there? Sure, but for the price, WT 101 Rye is excellent.

So funny you just posted this. My wife heard me watching last week's video and she said "tell him the wild turkey rye(40%)" tastes like Pelau. I'm like wtf r u talking about? So anyways pelau is a carribbean rice..seasonings..chicken etc dish. She wanted me to pass that on. Must be the gator char. I grabbed 3 or 4 of the non 101s at cvs for $15 ... a few months ago. Easy drinkers. 101 is nice too but not as good
I give it a 7.6 I really like Ryes and for the price it’s really hard to beat ET. Maybe Old Forester Rye is better (slightly), but I keep going back to WT101 Rye.
Thanks Matt! I’ve seen this on the shelf, but just haven’t picked it up yet. Sounds like it’s a safe purchase. Maybe you can review the Rare Breed Rye and/or Russell’s Reserve Rye next? I often like to take into account the insight of the WTWT before a higher priced whiskey. I mean who wouldn’t? It’s like free financial advice from that rich guy, Warren Buffet. Except it’s whiskey and it’s more of a Golden Corral type buffet in the end. But that all you can eat fried chicken and okra is hard to beat.

It still has WT 101 in the title. So for me, I can’t get past its older brother who unfortunately for me I can’t enjoy just like Bacardi 151, grand marnier, and 3 wisemen. I know it’s rye so maybe I’m ok w giving it a chance. I just need someone to buy it and pour it blind, or under the premise it’s another. Although now that I’m saying that, I’m going to distrust anyone now who gives me a blind pour. Which of course is what happened in the first place so many years ago, as a shot I needed to do. And then occasionally forced to accept again due to birthday, and other celebratory, shot protocol. Let’s just forget the whole thing.
I've always walked by the 101 rye, but it always catches my eye. I love Russell's rye 6 year, and just guessing that the 101 would be a little turned up, maybe dirtier (for the lack of better words, "dirtier" in a good way lol) I'm a rye guy myself on certain occasions, and why not pick this motha sucka up next trip to Fine Wine. Great review, Adderall whiskey :).
I was a bit disappointed in it. I found it not nearly as well balanced and harmonious as the 101 bourbon. I was hoping to have a solid $25 everyday rye for the shelf like the bourbon but found it lacking. I need to revisit it and see what another try gives me because right now, I think you're a point high on the review.
I like WT 101 rye. I'm an experienced whiskey/bourbon/scotch drinker. This bottle makes me feel like a pussy. And has me wanting to work up to have immunity from the harsh fire on its initial gulp. It's a rough rye. Like I walked into an oldtimey saloon and this is what the bar keep has behind the bar, and the locals wanna see if I'm a city slicker who cannot handle the corn/rye burn. Gonna finish the bottle in 3 days. Cheers!
