Ha ha. I'm so intent on not wasting money on regrettable whiskey, I always make myself finish the bottle. Sometimes I had to do some "master" blending with other bottles. Some of them took a lot of water to chase it down. Happy New Year Matt!

I have a limited budget for bourbon so I always look on TH-cam for reviews from you and a few other trusted reviewers to see if you’ve reviewed the product before and like or dislike it. I really try to come up with an educated decision before purchasing a bottle I haven’t had before. And because of this, rarely do I purchase bottles that I’m disappointed with. So I appreciate you for helping me to not waste money on bad bourbon.
Matt, I have a thumb. And I love you too. What I do with the bottles that I’ve bought and don’t enjoy is bring to my local BYOB humidor and leave on the shelf for others to drink while enjoying a cigar. They seem to always disappear within weeks.
Great video, Matt. It's good to know I am not the only one saying what I was thinking when I bought this bottle. That end of year tally of bourbon busts really hurts. Especially when you think of the one or two bottles you could have bought in their place.

I got the Elijah Craig Toasted rye and the Knob Creek BourbonxRye and they're both just fine which is not exactly something you wanna say for an allocated bottle. Wild turkey 70th anniversary didn't disappoint at all so at least I lucked out with that one this year.
For me, this is what I decided last year. I pay somewhat secondary for bottles that I really want. I dont buy regular bottles anymore. Example, I think you reference $540 in bottles you hate. I could get a RR15 & a Stagg Jr and be stoked. To me it's a no brainer. Buy what you really want, you can always make more money. Cheers Love the content you Bugga

Nice list! I bought the 10yr Widow Jane and it was sweet and nice for about three pours and then the minerals hit hard. Gave it to a friend! I buy the ECBP & Larceny from my owner friend because EC are 52.00 and Larceny are 48.00. No Bernheim, KC BxR, Bakers high rye, and Woodford batch proof for me! Guess I save a few bucks! Bought the one and only Widow Jane bottle I will ever buy about 5 years ago, the 10 year. Absolutely hated it, tasted like mud. I blended it with some other stuff I didn't love along with Makers Cask Strength and Bernheim 7 year in one of those little barrels for a few months, outside, during a Maryland summer and it was great, although I lost about 60% of it to the Angels.
Bourbon is an interesting thing cause I absolutely love that woodford batch proof. I took the Heaven hill you do bourbon experience a few years ago and the guy running it said something that has always stuck. “When I go out I always try something new, I already know what I like and I could be missing out on finding my next great bourbon.” Old grand dad 114 was that for me I hated it for the first few pours didn’t go back to it for over a year and I love it now as an everyday sipper. With that said the majority of the bottles only had the head gone try going back to them and see if the flavors opened up or try adding some drops of water. At the very least you could always send me that woodford it seems to be in need of a good home.
Cracking up cuz I just picked 2024 Larceny BP524 over ECBP B & C batches in a blind last night. I’m usually in your lane, but different palates hit different sometimes, eh?
The ECBP A124 I thought was an easy sipper crushed it in like two weekends not bad at all. I think most people were just pissed it wasn't C923 The KC Bourye was fine if you got it on special I liked it with an ice cube it opened up a little more. That said most Bernheim has a weird cardboard taste to me not my favorite.
ECBP and Larceny BP are definitely on my list... But I don't care because we have WTWT making videos to cheer us up! We love ya WTWT, thanks for everything you do!
Half of these bottles on your list are bottles I really enjoy 😅. But I’m with you on the EC A124, KC BourbonxRye, Bernhiem, and Larceny. All left me sad I spent the $50+ bucks on them
I agree with this list aside from ECBP A124, Larceny B524, and the Woodford. I enjoy those three. Previous years have been better but I still thought these were well above average.

I always have a few infinity bottles ready just for experiments with bad whiskey so I don't waste my money. It took a 90% dilution of 5 different whiskies but I finally mellowed out a bottle of Texas Ranger whiskey I got that tastes like they added sweetener, food coloring, and vanilla extract to vodka and called it whiskey.
In reference to the ECs- My rule is "if I buy two releases back to back that are truly regrettable, then I will no longer seek them out when they're released and will only purchase them once I've heard what multiple other people have said about them. If they have 2 back to back amazing releases then I will go back to hunting them, but not until they have proved that its worth my time and effort, to say nothing of the ridiculous price tags.
Absolutely love the concept of the video, just real feedback on things that others may never post. Just think about how many tacos you could have gotten for the money you spent on those bottles!!!
While I respect the idea that we should buy less bs bottles and do more research, I find that almost all the bottles you mentioned are actually great bottles.
I have had all the knob creeks and I mean all and at the end of the day best bang for the buck is there standard release 9 year bourbon. The 12,15, and 18 were good but for me the 9 year is great for the money. These are the things we learn on the whiskey journey, the toughest part for me is just how true it is that just because the bottle is rare and ultra expensive does not mean the juice matches the price. Thanks Matt for another year of reveals and reviews.
I love the 18 so much I keep going back to it. For me the 12 is miles better than the 9 and the 18 is significantly better than the 12 so totally worth it to me. For me the 9 is just the standard beam nutty profile which is fine, but I’m enjoying it less and less the more older stuff I try. I’m an oak hound though. 🤷♂️
FOMO is a helluva drug man… I was out of work for 8 months of 2024 and went on a no hunting streak. It broke the itch. I missed out on some great stuff like Discovery 12…. But I have few if any regrets.
You sound like me talking about toasted Barrel products. I keep buying them because everyone Raves about them and I'm always disappointed B524 ecbp is great... I prefer it to c922, (but not as good as c923). I have a backup... if you weren't across the country id share. I think c924 is also still available in some state stores here (pa), though my local stores that sold out restocked with more a124... so maybe not. I passed on c924 because I didnt think id prefer it to the b batch ( reviews said c was sweeter and nuttier and b was darker and oakier). Posting this made me pour a glass of the b524.... damn it's good. A little buffalo trace esque grapes note to the nose but opens up with dark caramel, cherry, and floral honey notes... much brighter than I remember... then just the perfect amount of oak, ginger and pepper at the back, with a lingering spice and anise. Also definitely drinking less hot than it did when the bottle was fresh cracked... I'd actually say this bottle I've had open 6 months or so (3/4 empty) is drinking underproof now. I was seeking for another flavor descriptor and I couldn't quite put my finger on what that taste was but it just occurred to me. Marzipan in the middle, along with the honey, that also carries through to the finish.
The painful stinging truth needs to be told. Thanks. I have 3 C924's. 2 still unopened. so delicious.....Still available at Destin Walmart......Found an Elijah Craig 18 there last week...Allocation honeyhole. And yes the C924 Larceny is better than the B524.
Agree on the Knob Creek bourbon X rye but I do like the EC toasted rye. I have too many Larceny and Elijah Craig BPs so I don’t buy any of them anymore.
I think i remember the video you said what larceny barrel proof you liked and bought the wrong one. I THINK it was B523 that you said you liked in the video. I could be wrong and that may have been the one you picked up. Could be way WAY wrong though so hope this was helpful hahaha
the cats eye 7 year light whiskey was complete dookie in a 750 ml bottle!! i really tried to like it by putting it in every cocktail known to man( really just old fashion, whiskey sours, whiskey cola/sprite and manhattans lol) but there was alway an considerable off putting kinda peroxide taste from mid palate to finish no matter how I drank it. I was very disgusted lol

Yup I was so surprised when I tried kc9, it was on sale for 50$ and better than anything else under 100$.

Funny enough, ive spent a lot of money the past couple months buying mostly backups/second bottles of stuff i love, rather than new ones.
Well, I have realized that we have the exact opposite palate...I love most of the bottles that you hated. I guess that's what makes Whiskey awesome.

Bernheim tastes a lot like a toasted bourbon. That being said I love toasted whiskey and this is usually better than Larceny BP for me each year.
I know a store by me that has over half a dozen bottles of the C924 batch.

Found my first Stagg 24C today. Don't regret it. ........Gunnar's Wheated is my only regret in 2024......And yes that EC C924 is the best of all year.
