  • Today I am showing you the steps to work through if you find that your RV toilet isn't holding water in the bowl or the water is leaking out of the bowl. This particular flush ball seal fits the Dometic 300, 310 and 320.
    The Dometic flush ball seal part number is 385311658 and is available on Amazon here: www.amazon.com...

    The valve seal on our Dometic toilet went bad and needed to be fixed. THIS VIDEO gave me perfect instructions on how to fix it. We are newbies and, although I can figure out most things, RV toilet repair is not one of them. I got the part from a local store, watched the video 5 or 6 times to make sure I didn't miss anything, and got the job done on the first try. My wife is sooooooooooo happy with me. No more horrible odors and she can use her own toilet instead of the public one. Today, I'm her hero. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

      Steve Tait stick with it and you will be a pro at this stuff. My calendar keeps me on auto pilot as far as maintenance goes so most problems are taken care of before they become an issue.

    WOW! This saved the day! My husband was convinced I broke the toilet $$$...I secretly ordered the seal and voila---water is holding. Lifesaver!

      Monica Martin FYI you likely don’t have to replace the seal just clean it and the valve plate that seals against it. I had to do that to mine yesterday. Just scrubbing it with a toilet brush isn’t enough. You have to remove the seal to get to the dirty spots.

      @@JustPlainCommonSense I replaced it - the old one was sort of dry rotted and not soft and pliable so I think a new one was just the ticket! Thanks!!

    Your idea of leaving the slide ball closed while installing was great! I've watched 2 or 3 others videos on this subject and nobody else mentioned living the slide closed! Thank you so much! Subscribed ....

    Very thankful that you took the time to post this video. Our camper toilet wasn’t holding water and instead of having to replace the seal, it just needed a good cleaning and some lubricant. Thanks!

    Excellent, simple, concise “how to” video! My first two pre-video tries were unsuccessful. After checking out a couple of other long-winded dudes who droned on about everything except how to replace the seal and then I found this video which got right down to business. Next try went perfectly. Thank you!!

      I'll be doing a review video very soon comparing the Dometic seal against the Rhino Storm seal at half the price. I have to replace my seal about every 24 months of full-time RV living. Thanks for the view and comment!

    I appreciate your video, got my new gasket and magic lube ready to go. Super flushed black tank, water off etc. You say “it’s real easy, just reach in and grab the seal” ......... we’ll, no matter how I position my hand and/or fingers, I can’t seen to get a sufficient grasp on the edges of the seal to get enough grip to remove it. Please advise your thoughts and suggestions. Much thanks!

    • @JustPlainCommonSense
      @JustPlainCommonSense  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't use the magic lube on any part that the ball has to slide on. It is too sticky. Better yet, you don't have to use it at all, just clean all the surfaces really well.

    I found that clea one the bottom of the seal will work wonders for keeping water in the toilet.

    • @JustPlainCommonSense
      @JustPlainCommonSense  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No doubt! I brush down under the seal frequently but somehow that hard calcium deposits on the rubber and slide plate. Seems I have to replace mine every 24 months regardless when living in the RV full-time.

    Thanks for the video. Quick question if you can help...when I press the foot pedal all of the way down the toilet works great. When I push it partially down to put water in the bowl, I get leakage out of the foot pedal? I can’t figure out why. Would you have any ideas? Thanks again.

    • @JustPlainCommonSense
      @JustPlainCommonSense  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ron Ervin I’ve never had that problem but I’d start by turning the water off and taking the valve off to see what is wrong. It may have a seal that is out of place or a crack in the body somewhere. Really hard to tell

    What the heck dude?!!
    That...was....WAY...too simple.
    If I have to change ours and it goes that smoothly I may sh*t myself as that would be the very first repair that went just as I would have wanted it too.
    HAHAHAHA..............;)

    • @JustPlainCommonSense
      @JustPlainCommonSense  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It gets replaced about every two years. That is about as long as the rubber will last before it begins to leak. Good luck on your repair.

    What if the ball valve is sticking, on a model 310?

    • @JustPlainCommonSense
      @JustPlainCommonSense  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Traveling Terry turn off the water supply and remove the ball valve seal on the toilet. see if a lip has rolled on it. With the seal removed, see if the valve still sticks. If it does not stick then I’d say the seal was the problem. Maybe you need to replace it. If it still sticks I suppose the valve is defective.

    • @TerrydeAlaska

      @@JustPlainCommonSense yea, I've done all that and lubed with plumbers grease as well, and we'll see how long it holds up. I don't think I can replace the ball valve, so may have to replace the whole toilet....Thanks...
