How The Ottomans Lost Bosnia

Bosnia became part of Austria-Hungary in 1878, following the Treaty of Berlin. This treaty was a result of the Congress of Berlin, which aimed to address the instability in the Balkans and the decline of the Ottoman Empire. Under the treaty, Bosnia and Herzegovina remained nominally under Ottoman sovereignty but were placed under Austro-Hungarian administration. This arrangement was intended to stabilize the region and counteract the influence of other powers, particularly Russia.
Austria-Hungary formally annexed Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1908, a move that sparked international controversy and tensions, especially with Serbia, which had ethnic and political interests in the region. The annexation further strained relations between Austria-Hungary and Serbia, contributing to the complex web of alliances and hostilities that eventually led to the outbreak of World War I in 1914. The incorporation of Bosnia into Austria-Hungary marked a significant shift in the region's political landscape.
