If I were too guess, commercial flights likely had some armed personal onboard. Im not sure how well that lines up with the spread of the infection, but it wouldn't surprise me that flights were still happening early on, and the trooper likely abonded the plane with how quickly it would get overrun.
people don’t parachute out of commercial airliners planes im pretty sure, they fly higher where the air is much thinner, and the plane is pressurized, throwing that door open would likely get you sucked out, you’d definitely tumble out of it if you tried, plus if the military guys were the ones flying and there’s a whole ton of infected they couldn’t make their way to the back passenger and service door, meaning they’d have to jump out from the front and risk being sucked into the engine or smacking against the wings.
It's all shit and giggles until Tank arrives and you stuck with him rapidly approaching you, as there's only one escape route, which leads to the same room he comes from. But to be fair, there's another option to escape from the Tank. Just go to the right and jump to the rooftop. There's an invisible wall here, so you won't make it, but you will glide down, taking only 1 hp of fall damage
You have rekindled a love for this game in me. I was too young to pick up on all the lore the first time around. Now, you're making me realize the game is a masterclass in storytelling.
The parachuter could be explain as on board security before the plane crash. Since L4D2 story wise, set place in a world where people know about Zombie like we in real life through movie and game, so they could be board security to kill any potential infected. Or they could also use the plane as military transport out of desperation.

I love Swamp Fever, it’s my favourite campaign from both games. But that’s because I’m a sucker for creepy swamps in games, they’re so unnerving and eerie, and left for dead 2 pulls it off perfectly. It also helps that’s it’s one of the darkest campaigns (both visually and conceptually)
Rich story, fun gameplay, cool dialogue, unique atmosphere and the introduction of arguably the best side character in the game. Really underrated campaign, deserves more attention.
As a cajun myself, the swamps are dangerous enough. I always wondered about the implications of being in one during a zombie apocalypse. The mosquitos alone.
Not just mosquitos. In real life you can encounter swamp animals. The game just gives you the ambience of the swamps such as crickets chirping, frogs croaking, and crocodiles.
the swamp waters and mud would swallow most zombies whole. The scary implication is that millions of mosquitos could spread the infection even more if the mosquitos were biting zombies.
If I had to guess, my theory is that the parachutists were special forces or other army personnel dropped in to train the locals. This is also what was done in the World War Z novel, and it could explain why the village survived as long as it did
2:37 don’t forget about the captured tank in The Sacrifice 5:16 also I feel like the parachutist were military guys who had captured the plane. Maybe the military resources were stretched thin and had to take over a plane?
I never saw Swamp Fever as boring, I really liked the creepy environment and the story behind it, also I remember when Left 4 Dead 2 was still in development Swamp Fever was the second campaign to be shown along with the Spitter introduction which I was really exited for because she did fit in this environment and back then she was still a mystery by gameplay experience because we only knew what she looked like from her scary concept art.
I love this series! I watch them as soon as they release, I wish they were longer though! I could listen to L4D lore bits for an embarrassing amount of time
5:30 something else to note. During an emergency it isn't unreasonable to assume soldiers might also be riding on civilian airliners. However the proximity of the parachutist compared to the plane would either mean they jumped at a seriously low altitude or from a different plane entirely. However this might simply be a protentional error or oversite in map design and the two things might be entirely unrelated.
This map is awesome I love the location, the plantation finale is gorgeous. This is probably the spookiest map of the original 5 left 4 dead 2 campaigns as well And swamps in general are just so cool and relaxing
I love seeing these type of videos. I’ve been following each one and it’s such a good feeling to revisit each map and elaborate more on its depth and situation ❤
The fallen parachutist who wasn't a zombie, and the military guy who was a zombie probably indicates that the l4d2 helicopter situation probably wasn't the first one to happen. Someone gets picked up, spreads the infection to the pilot or someone else, and forces everyone to abandon the helicopter as a whole, over uncharted areas. Loving the videos man!
I like Roxhelle's version of the starting dialogue. That being either Coach's first mentioned line, or a very irritated "HE WAS FLYING THE HELICOPTER!"
@5:15 I mean the military (at least in the US) very, very regularly gets fully uniformed soldiers between bases with civilian commercial jets. They also usually have a huge box of gear with weapons on it. Depending how far we are into the infection, they could have either commandeered it or used it for operations, acting as air marshals for a commercial flight. L4D1 already had a former solider flying a (stolen) Korean plane for survivors.
I thought this video was made like 10 years ago. Seeing the upload date really suprised me. Its great to see L4D is still such a beloved game. Great video
This is a such a memorable campaign for me. I used to play campaign co-op on Xbox with my sister. It’s not like she’s good at shooting games, but her panicking at the zombies was so hilarious. So we were at the last chapter, The Plantation, and the only two characters left. Halfway through the campaign, for some noob reason, she was having a hard time climbing the ladder to the mansion. So I went afk on the roof, right in front of the broken window to help her out. Then moments later, a Charger came out sending my character straight to the air, instantly killing him (I’m pretty sure it was Ellis, I always play Ellis). Then a hoard came after that, and my sister was crying because she didn’t know what to do alone. Pure entertainment. 😭
Fr like Swamp Fever and Hard Rain are probably the most obnoxious campaigns in terms of maps because of the slowness the game gives you when you're walking through water. I guess in Hard Rain it's more intentional though, to give the player a sense of desperation and urgency.
They survived long within context, but there's many other holdouts that survived longer, since the virus didn't start everywhere at the same time. In terms of the spread, the swamp people "only" survived a few days, compared to places like Riverside or Newburg, which survived up to 2 weeks, but had to deal with the virus much sooner. There's also places that could not last as long: Whispering Oaks fell within a few days, likely faster than the swamp people due to being more densely packed with refugees. Imo the swamp people's smaller numbers probably benefited them, as it meant less opportunities for the infected to spread within their ranks and attack from within.
My guess, and i find it hardly worth bragging about, is that the swamp people’s population density was much much smaller than that of the cities, of course the cities were overrun much faster cuz there’s wayyyy more infected, in the swamps you’d only have to deal with maybe one or two lost souls first before the infected made their ways out of the city and found them, they probably would have “held out” longer too depending on how lucky they were, but the commercial airliner crashed there causing the few swampers to be overrun
actually a possible reason for the airplane thing is that they were transporting a prisoner. you know how the feds will sometimes transport prisoners on comercial transport? well maybe the two soldiers were transporting a carrier who they simply thought was immune due to knowing little about the disease at the time, and then the carriers presence turned everyone on the plane and caused it to crash.
i like the point that the left 4 dead survivors are getting close to survivors, like 3 days away. that wasa good feeling when i play this my first time
I'm from Louisiana and have always loved L4D. I tell everyone I play with online I'm IRL Ellis. Nice video! It's was funny hearing you pronounce "Bayou" and "Bossier". Down here we pronounce them, "Bai-you" and " BOH-zher".
Couple things I wanted to share. 1.) I wonder if the downed plane brought a host of infected that overran the small and fairly isolated swamp community 2.) While the ferry man is named Charon, I wonder if Virgil is named as as such, since he is somewhat the survivors' "guide through the underworld" as Virgil was for Dante in the Divine Comedy. Food for thought.
To be honest for me is that the paratrooper that was hanging was killed by Local survivors. It did said that no Military and no Ceda them so it make sense that people who saw the Paratrooper was shot. While landing.
I think a lot of people have theorized about it already, but I'm pretty sure the implication with the plane and Ellis' dialogue is that the military was using that passenger plane to transport research material and survivors out of the city (Likely due to a shortage of official military vehicles to use). One thing led to another and an infection broke out onboard causing the military to abandon the plane before it crashed into the ground.
I, personally, always loved Swamp Fever for being such a contrast in others maps in the campaign from other campaigns. It's really the only time you're out in the wilderness and have seen a place that had, until just recently held out against the infection. Although, I will say the one thing that confuses me about the campaign is the litany of bile jars. Contrast that with Dark Carnival, a CEDA designated evacuation zone where there's none to be found inside the park. Yet somehow, by either black market or just being able to hold out for so long, the rural Cajnuns gathered up more.
The Swamp was my favorite level during the Xbox live era. I liked the "We held out longer than the rest" and the messages they left all over the level. Virgile is also the only get away that last more than a single level
5:34 another issue is that certain aircraft are less than ideal for parachuting out of, because depending on what exits are available to you, you might end up smacking into the plane, or worse, it's engines. For example with this plane, jumping out the front exit may see you hitting into the wing or being ingested by the engine; jumping out the back exit will likely see you hit the tail. My crackpot theory on the military guys is that they might've been a small unit like the Green Berets or Rangers who were sent in to do reconnaissance and find a place where they might've been able to set up an airstrip or landing area for helis, as well as probably see how the swamp folk were doing.
Honestly I do still think it’s possible for the military people to have been on the airplane. Even during the early stages of the infection maybe they would of had military personnel on civilian airplanes incase any of the survivors turned into infected. Plus if the planes were being used to fly survivors to wherever, it make sense for the military to put a couple soldiers on board
This may be a bit of a reach, but the dead paratrooper could be a reference to, or inspired by, World War Z by Max Brooks. In the book, there's a chapter about a US Air Force pilot whose C-130 suffered a malfunction and went down over a swamp in Louisiana while on a mission to airdrop supplies to a pocket of survivors, and she and her copilot had to bail out. After she parachuted down into the swamp, she heard screams and found her copilot's chute tangled in a tree, and his still-attached body being torn apart and eaten by zombies. Also the crashed plane may not have come from the airport in Dead Air, but they would've been from the same airline, since they shared the same livery.
Honestly, the commercial airliner being the source of the parachutist could make sense if the military commandeered the vehicle and went up, not realize someone infected was on board.
There is a theory floating around that the way the charger is hung up is intentional. It looks like the Lambda symbol from Half Life. Nice easter egg if it is one.
One more thing you didn't mention, the village at the ferry crescendo event is almost identical to the St. Marc Counterstrike map. No story implications there, just neat to see references that most people just wont ever notice
heavy rain is my favorite campaign. When it starts raining hard and you hunker down in one of the elevated houses while a horde storms the front door. I love that feeling.

That or Coach should sacrifice himself since Coach is essentially bill of the group
The boat name Of "Lagniappe" (possibly pronounced as Len-yap) is also a French word described according to Merriam-Webster as "a small gift given to a customer by a merchant at the time of a purchase"
It’s pronounced “Lahn-yahp” :)
In Cajun it means "something extra". A lot of Cajun restaurants in Louisiana will have a Lagniappe section to the menu that will be sides or appetizers or something.
If I were too guess, commercial flights likely had some armed personal onboard. Im not sure how well that lines up with the spread of the infection, but it wouldn't surprise me that flights were still happening early on, and the trooper likely abonded the plane with how quickly it would get overrun.
people don’t parachute out of commercial airliners planes im pretty sure, they fly higher where the air is much thinner, and the plane is pressurized, throwing that door open would likely get you sucked out, you’d definitely tumble out of it if you tried, plus if the military guys were the ones flying and there’s a whole ton of infected they couldn’t make their way to the back passenger and service door, meaning they’d have to jump out from the front and risk being sucked into the engine or smacking against the wings.
swamp fever is usually disliked for finale because people either insist and stay on the balcony or try holding in the house
This finale features 2 tanks. It's possible that the game will instantly throw you 3 in the 2nd wave.
See, I thought it coulda been a plane transporting survivors so that kinda made sense to me
ever since 9/11 board security tended to exist on all planes to ensure it never happened again

@Midwestemoisme Well, both of the parachuter we see are dead, so they risk it to escape anyway.
@@Aibadenshi i don’t think they’re a part of the commercial airliner flight, they don’t have parachutes on them either way, not even for air marshals. Not to mention jumping from the front has a high chance of getting sucked into the engines lol
I never really thought about the implication of the Charger, I just saw it as a reference to Half-Life.
Please excuse my French in this video (Or any mispronunciation's)
I'm from the north and never expected this many people from Louisiana in this comment section. (Not this early at least)

Honestly most Cajuns would hurt you for pronouncing bayou incorrectly. BAI-U like BUY YOU is how it is pronounced, not Bay-U in case you are wondering.
I hate the fact Swamp Fever is so slept on. This was genuinely one of my favorite campaigns in all of l4d2!
Because it’s bad for speed runs n slow in expert. Plus dark carnival concert or passing underground

Hunt showdown is the best swamp horror game.

Rich story, fun gameplay, cool dialogue, unique atmosphere and the introduction of arguably the best side character in the game. Really underrated campaign, deserves more attention.
7:28 never heard somebody pronounce bayou like that lol
Paused the video and dove to comments as soon as I heard that lmao
@@girthquake0699 Same here. I was like "Oh man, someone has got to have got on his ass for pronouncing Bayou as 'Bay-u' and not 'By-u' " lol
Swamp Fever and Dark Carnival are actually my two favorites, just because of the reason you said at the start. It breaks the mold a bit.
Tank gets SPAWNED on the other side of the map across the boat area and RUNS straight into the water and DIES.
If I had to guess, my theory is that the parachutists were special forces or other army personnel dropped in to train the locals. This is also what was done in the World War Z novel, and it could explain why the village survived as long as it did
2:50 kinda funny that the charger is hanged up looking like the Lambda logo of Half Life
Nice to see I wasn’t the only one to notice!
That's because Half Life and Left 4 Dead were made by Valve
2:37 don’t forget about the captured tank in The Sacrifice
5:16 also I feel like the parachutist were military guys who had captured the plane. Maybe the military resources were stretched thin and had to take over a plane?
5:48 maybe when the green flu spread serious they tried evacuating through airports and they had millitary personel in each plane
I could listen to L4D lore bits for an embarrassing amount of time
Hard Rain and Swamp Fever are my favorite campaigns in the game.
Don't forget that if you are to jump out of one who would die from lack of oxygen
Or die by hitting the wing or going into the engine
Just wanted to say my love for this channel content makes me feel like a kid again thanks for the videos brotha
7:18 no one gonna mention his steam name lmao
This map is awesome
I love the location, the plantation finale is gorgeous. This is probably the spookiest map of the original 5 left 4 dead 2 campaigns as well
And swamps in general are just so cool and relaxing
Have you smelled enough recently when you visited a swamp?
I love seeing these type of videos. I’ve been following each one and it’s such a good feeling to revisit each map and elaborate more on its depth and situation ❤
The fallen parachutist who wasn't a zombie, and the military guy who was a zombie probably indicates that the l4d2 helicopter situation probably wasn't the first one to happen. Someone gets picked up, spreads the infection to the pilot or someone else, and forces everyone to abandon the helicopter as a whole, over uncharted areas. Loving the videos man!
I mean... Crash Course exists...
I like Roxhelle's version of the starting dialogue. That being either Coach's first mentioned line, or a very irritated "HE WAS FLYING THE HELICOPTER!"
Love this vids man, Left 4 deads one of the best games and stories and deserves videos like this. Good shit mane
L4D1 already had a former solider flying a (stolen) Korean plane for survivors.
made my day conz, thank you brah
thank you for making this video, you did a great content! ❤ looking forward for Hard Rain in the future ✨

With how much I love L4D, I can't believe I haven't seen any videos like this before. Awesome one
I lived near the middle of fumbuck nowhere with swamps and also gator parks. 😂 So I've always had a soft spot for swamp fever.
I thought this video was made like 10 years ago. Seeing the upload date really suprised me. Its great to see L4D is still such a beloved game. Great video
You can also see the crashed helicopter in chapter 1 next to the train on the left.
I love that Nick and Rochelle dialogue because it pokes fun at the player who sometimes friendlyfires because of panic.
YOUR CONTENT IS SO FREAKIN GOOOOD
These videos are great! You definitely deserve more subscribers!
You my man earned a sub. These stories of the campaigns are great!
LMFAO that Vergil joke was amazing! Instant sub.
Good times man hahahhaa. I forgot how crazy this game is
I love these types of videos. Thank you so much for deep diving into the lore of the left for dead 2 universe.
Interesting that a Campaign that takes place in the most annoying maps possible has more lore than the others.
Fr like Swamp Fever and Hard Rain are probably the most obnoxious campaigns in terms of maps because of the slowness the game gives you when you're walking through water. I guess in Hard Rain it's more intentional though, to give the player a sense of desperation and urgency.
Man, make the playlist for this series.
Its kinda fine to sleep under this lore videos.
How the fuck did a village of cajuns survive the apocalypse longer than the military?
@JAiZTH-cam Honestly, the plane is probably what screwed them loud noise from the crash, combined with any infected who made it through the crash
@@JAiZTH-cam Yeah, not only did they have smaller numbers. They probably trusted each other more than the other groups.
Less people, more space, a fuckton of inconveniences to get to them
actually a possible reason for the airplane thing is that they were transporting a prisoner.
you know how the feds will sometimes transport prisoners on comercial transport?
well maybe the two soldiers were transporting a carrier who they simply thought was immune due to knowing little about the disease at the time, and then the carriers presence turned everyone on the plane and caused it to crash.
I love your videos!
i like the point that the left 4 dead survivors are getting close to survivors, like 3 days away. that wasa good feeling when i play this my first time
Love these break downs.
I'm from Louisiana and have always loved L4D. I tell everyone I play with online I'm IRL Ellis. Nice video! It's was funny hearing you pronounce "Bayou" and "Bossier". Down here we pronounce them, "Bai-you" and " BOH-zher".
When the swamp gets a fever
Couple things I wanted to share.
1.) I wonder if the downed plane brought a host of infected that overran the small and fairly isolated swamp community
2.) While the ferry man is named Charon, I wonder if Virgil is named as as such, since he is somewhat the survivors' "guide through the underworld" as Virgil was for Dante in the Divine Comedy.
Food for thought.
i just find it hilarious that this is in short form 😂 great video man ❤
To be honest for me is that the paratrooper that was hanging was killed by Local survivors.
It did said that no Military and no Ceda them so it make sense that people who saw the Paratrooper was shot. While landing.
yeah he was probably shot by the locals.
As a kid I thought it'd be so neat to live in a village like that. Some of the shacks looked real cozy and homey.
The Charger was also positioned to imitate the Lambda symbol, the Logo of Half Life
Love this campaign!
I love the implications that are MC’s killed that pilot indirectly by being carriers
The Swamp was my favorite level during the Xbox live era.
I liked the "We held out longer than the rest" and the messages they left all over the level.
Virgile is also the only get away that last more than a single level
Rochelle and elis start dialoge is peak comedy
Love these
Village "des marais" is in french. it means "village of the swamps."
Honestly, the commercial airliner being the source of the parachutist could make sense if the military commandeered the vehicle and went up, not realize someone infected was on board.
i love these videos its fun to learn more about the left 4 dead campaigns
5:28 or thwre were trying to evac civilians like the dead island 2 intro whare there were army people
I’ve always loved Swamp Fever despite its big flaws, it’s always been so fun to play
Fun fact: The dead charger in the first chapter is aligned to look like a lambda symbol.
There is a theory floating around that the way the charger is hung up is intentional. It looks like the Lambda symbol from Half Life. Nice easter egg if it is one.
Loved the Vergil jumpscare
"Rochelle I see the sign" made me smile for a bit 😁
One more thing you didn't mention, the village at the ferry crescendo event is almost identical to the St. Marc Counterstrike map. No story implications there, just neat to see references that most people just wont ever notice
heavy rain is my favorite campaign. When it starts raining hard and you hunker down in one of the elevated houses while a horde storms the front door. I love that feeling.
