I have to say. I'm coming from 10+ years of Adobe Premiere. Coming to Davinci, i find myself always coming back to your channel. Keep up the good work, awesome content!
Just a heads up for future viewers, if your middle mouse button doesn't work, once you setup Davinci Resolve as an app in the logitech app, go to the middle button and move from 'Gesture' to 'Middle Button'. Simple but easy to miss and once you are back in DR it will work as expected! Great video, thank you muchly!! And oh, the trim start/trim end hack - magic baby!!!!
@Creative Video Tips , Cadwick I have had to learn to use right handed mice in my left hand over my many years because I would be required to do PC tech support and most all users as you know are right handed. General PC use is no problem, but using the opposite handed mouse with editing buttons has never worked for me. Short answer, learn to use right hand mouse in left hand, and survival is easier. 😉
Thank you very much for this super-useful tutorial. My MX Master3 is now perfectly tuned. I love this mouse! I was fed up with the Magic Mouse. It's very cool looking, and the touchpad function is clever, but... no middle button, randomly scrolling when just intending to click, and of course that stupid charging port. In contrast, the MX3 Master 3 is a delight. As well as being a superb general-purpose mouse, its custom functions integrate perfectly with Resolve. I'd say to anyone thinking of getting one - just do it!
I picked up the MX3 mouse for my new Asus StudioBook 16, then realized I didn't know what to do with it for Resolve. Thank you for being there/here/got my back with this video! I see you have others I need to watch too. ⭐x5
Excellent video, and just bought the MX Master 3 for Mac version of the mouse. However, trying to program the two side buttons for the Shift-[ and the Shift-] just wasn't working. Turns out that Logitech - with no mention anywhere in the documentation or on the web that I could find - actually differentiates between the left shift key and the right one. I'd been using the right shift key with the [ and ] as you do, due to their proximity. That doesn't work in the MX Mouse in Resolve. You need to use the LEFT-SHIFT keys instead. Delete the keystroke assignments, then re-assign them using the LEFT SHIFT [ and ] and everything suddenly works perfectly. Who knew that the two shift keys were recognised as different?
I see on your desk you have the speed editor, a keyboard and this Logitech mouse you are reviewing. DO you feel the full sizer DaVinci editing keyboard is overkill with the mouse setup you are using? Thanks! Great video!!! Dave
Yes for the rollerblade reference! Thanks for all these videos, man. I've just moved over from 20 years of editing in Prem, to Resolve, and these videos have helped so much with my switch!
I think you're not exploiting all the potencial of the mouse as you only showed one use for the Gesture Button. I use the Back and Forward buttons for Undo and Redo and pressing the Gesture Button and moving the mouse to the left/right is configured to do the Trim commands you have on the Back/Forward buttons. Also, pressing the Gesture Button and moving the mouse down is configured to make a Cut (Cmd + B). Hope this is a good tip for you. Great video BTW!
Great video, packed with interesting insights! I am using the MX2 for my editing, along the Speed Editor. I also tried the G600 and while in theory, it would speed up editing, it never felt so natural with so many buttons packed nearby.
Thanks for sharing! Yeah sometimes less is more. I was thinking about this with ordering food at restaurants because we started getting In and Out in Colorado and they have such a simple menu. I prefer simplicity as long as I don't lose too many options :)
Chadwick, I’ve been cutting using nonlinear systems since like 1989, if memory serves. The one thing I’ve learned is that your mouse and your keyboard are never important until they give you cramps after 20+ hours using them or, like my Apple corded mouse with the trackball die after like 9 months. I went with the MX 3 and I love it, and it’s by no means the first Logitech mouse I’ve used over the years but it might well be one of the last I buy, it’s so well made.
This is some wisdom worth listening to! Thanks Luke. For me this mx3 was something I personally resisted for too long because "everybody" seemed to have it and rave about it, which made me less interested because it felt like a bandwagon fad. I completely agree with you though after using it for a good while this year. This might be my last style of mouse I use for a very long time.
I also have this mouse and really like it, the software was a little unstable last year but it has come right. I don't use the extra buttons because I tend to do the repetitive editing on the keyboard but I'm going to try them out for placing b-roll on my current project.
i think horizontal scroll speed can be increased and i found it very nice once i increased its speed upto 93... this is the first video i watched and am sub to you bbecause this was straight to point and felt easily relatable...sure going to check more content of yours thanks & regards
Thanks so much for this Chadwick, I've had this mouse for a while but these customisation tips were so much better than what I was doing. Really appreciate all your hard work with these great Resolve tutorials!
As ever, Great Video Chadwick, I have the MX3, and found that my Little Finger just dangles and slides along the desk. I have added a little Clear Plastic Shelf where the Little Finger rests naturally, (the plastic I used is the flexible, easily bendable clear plastic found on packaging) I have shaped and made it into a T shape and attached it with Double Sided Tape half an inch in front of the bottom slide pad where the bottom of the Mouse is curved, and I've stuck it to the bottom and the side where the inside of the little finger rests. I am still learning to let Muscle Memory of my Hand adapt to this new positioning.
My main setup with my MX3 is assigning the gesture button down to cut and gesture button up to ripple delete so when I'm scrolling through I just flick my wrist down and up and it makes roughing in edits so much faster!
@@CreativeVideoTips yeah it definitely takes a quick second to get used to but once you start figuring out how you want to use them it completely fixes your issue with not enough buttons I think!
Came from Davinci Resolve User Group. Thank you so much for this useful tips. I just bought this mouse yesterday actually. Hopefully, you can share more useful video about Davinci Resolve especially about edit page and color page. Thanks in advance!
Yo man you're good at what you do! Perfect pacing and the knowledge you gave me was overwhelmingly useful. Had no clue clicking the scroll wheel helped so much with the color page lol. Thanks a bunch Chadwick
Thanks for the captions broski! I always rec the older model of the mx master because the side wheel and buttons feel way more reachable and “identifiable” than the new model. The new models buttons are identical shapes, but the old ones have distinct shapes that you don’t have to look at to identify. That is probably something I could get used to, but the side scroller position was a deal breaker for me.
I've had this mouse in the Amazon cart for 3 days. I guess it's coming home! Keep up the great content! As a new Resolve user I've learned a lot from watching your videos. Your style is great and you're very good at translating your professional knowledge to the layman just getting started. Cheers!
Since starting to use Macs back in 1987 I've always used Kensington track balls instead of using a mouse, but when I purchased the Apple Trackpad and the Resolve Speed Editor with my M2 MacMiniPro thinking they would meet all my needs only to find there is no middle-button click equivalent on the trackpad or the the speed editor. I understand Apple not putting center button click on the trackpad because it is only found on PC mice, but I have hoped since center-button-click is vital to editing fuctions in Resolve Blackmagic would have created a key for it on the editor device or a keyboard shortcut equivalent.
Couldn’t agree more! Been using this mouse for years and have totally worn it out. Used to have a variety of Razer mice as thought these would be awesome with all the customisation. Just found this was comfy to use all day long and does enough to make life better during editing. Nice video buddy!
Thanks Kyle. I got back and forth every few months when I get bored. Right now I'm using the MX3 mouse. For Affinity Photo and Photoshop though I mostly just use a wacom.
Just found you today. Subbed. I'm new to Resolve after ditching Adobe permanently!!! I love it. Thanks for the tips. I already have the mx3 which is great. It's awesome to have the horizontal scroll wheel in Logic Pro especially
Welcome Simon! I'm right with you on the horizontal scroll. How do you like using Logic? I've been considering giving that a try vs Izotope RX as a supplement to Fairlight.
@@CreativeVideoTips I'm an audio guy primarily and I love Logic Pro :) it's my favourite DAW, and it comes with a lot of great tools. If you're specifically using it to tidy up video audio from artefacts and noise, then the izotope stuff is still a better tool for that. But compression, eq, level matching, limiting etc is all great in logic :)
I got this mouse a couple years ago for specifically editing and photoshop work and have never looked back. Its been amazing to speed up workflow on my main computer but also easily swaps over to use as a mouse with my iPad and I can even set up a function to drop docs between devices with it. Expensive - you bet. But after a lot of use I have never regretted the spend and will do it again when this one eventually packs it in.
Thanks! I got this mouse recently, and hadn't quite understood customizations. One other thing I encountered: when I first got the mouse and turned it on, my M1 MacBook Air's Bluetooth wouldn't see it until I held the mouse right next to the laptop, possibly touching. It has worked fine since then. I just wish I could somehow do multiple Bluetooth connections, since using the mouse rules out my remote speakers.
I was interested in this mouse the horizontal scroll wheel to use for timeline scrolling. Sad that the feature I was looking for, won’t be what I wanted in this one
You can actually adjust it quite a bit on MX Master 3S for Mac! It works great for timeline scrolling, but truly the best combo is trackpad on the left and MX Master 3 on the right.
Thanks for this great video! I’ve been using Logitech products for 10 years now but I use their MX Ergo rollerball and their older model before that. Have you tried it?
That's awesome! Hey be sure to let and everyone know on here if you change your buttons to something different. The one I'm not 100% sold on is my gesture button assignment, so I keep experimenting - but overall I dig it.
Logitech has new software for the master series call logi+. You have great new features. You have the ability to assign key strokes etc on the horizontal wheel just like other keys. You have access to gestures on any button on the mouse no just the gesture button. So every key has 5 potential hotkey assignments if you like.
Logi g604 beats mx in my opinion. It’s faster, lighter, with more buttons to configure. Only downside is a replaceable battery instead of the actual charger. Great video though, few tips noted, thanks buddy 🤜🏼
Great advice Chadwick, maybe you could buy a programmable footpedal (or streamdeck floor pedal) and have Control or Alt on the floor so you can modify your scolling
FCP Magnetic Timeline is NOT just a Delete Ripple timeline. It does more than that. It is a smart ripple delete. In DR we still have to be aware of the selected tracks or ripple delete can still mess things up quickly.
Thanks so much! Gonna go with a very similar setup. I especially like your back/forward setup. :) Curious though... - Doesn't the ability to edit in the trim mode make the Wheel mode shift (Delete forward) basically the same? (If so, thinking of setting that to blade instead). - Is it possible to configure the buttons do do different things on different pages? Like, back/forward on the color page or Fusion to do something different there. - If not, do you know if it's possible to make the mouse behave like 3 different mice on the same computer using the bluetooth selector? That way, profile 1 could be for editing, and profile 2 could behave differently in the color page etc using different shortcuts.
Great question Kurtis, Yes and No. At least of the past couple months I generally just use the speed editor when I'm initially pulling selects down, in which case I pretty much just use that device. But as soon as I'm done with that phase, which is probably only 1/2 a day per project or so, then I'm on keyboard and mouse (and probably getting back to my Wacom as soon as the driver support is fixed for M1) as well. I like buttons more than anyone, but there is always a need for some clicking :)
I probably will not get this mouse, but I am definitely looking into adding DR-specific control for my Razer Viper Ultimate. This video is golden. Really all of yours are. And extra points for the ABEC 3 vs ABEC 5 comparison :-)
Man - I had to check my room to make sure you didn't have a hidden cam on me(😂)...an hour ago I was going down (many) rabbit holes looking for a new mouse for my mac 🤯. The MX Master 3 was the one that caught my attention the most - and then you drop this video 🤯 . I am currently using the standard magic mouse that came with my mac, and although it is a pretty cool mouse...well...there is no middle click 🙄🤣 #firstworldproblems 😂 Thanks so much for this Chadwick - this has really helped me with my decision 🙏🏻
That's hillarious Gary! I think we must think on the same wavelength. Yeah, most folks don't realize how important a good middle click is until they get further into Resolve. I have even dropped a few bucks so I can middle mouse click on my MacBook Pro trackpad. It's an app called Middle, just in case you're in the same boat. Cheers!
dude imma comment again, this video is super helpful, i got to learn so much about the basic stuff which will (i hope) help me save hours and hours of editing
Thanks for the video. I picked up a few things I didn't know that you could do even with a regular mouse in Resolve (mouse wheel rotate + Ctrl, Alt, or Shift). I bet that mouse case is collecting dust!
I use the two side buttons as split and delete without ripple, because often I need to have the space for something else or I need that section of the clip placed somewhere else
Hello, can you please do a video update on this mouse? People are talking about major issues with the rubber becoming very sticky and even liquefying...
My only wish with this mouse is that I‘d bought it sooner. I have my old mouse on my old laptop which I sometimes use, and I can‘t tell you how much more comfortable the MX is.
Hi Chadwick, I need some advise... I am switching out my keyboard for the Editor Keyboard and also trying the Logitech MX Ergo trackball mouse and also the Kensington SlimBlade Pro mouse. Now with you video I am thinking of the MX Master 3. Do you have any suggestions as to the best options. The Keyboard is going to take a little getting use to but not sure about the track ball. Thanks, Dave....
I have it and just added the trim buttons...wow super cool... excellent video thx y for it...I make videos too so I know how hard it is to make it..deeply appreciate the work...I bought this mx3 coz I wanted something close to a Jog wheel for those fine-tuning moments...this one does it great....cheers n thx
Thank you very much for the video, just wondering if DR can have what FCPX can do which is when you move around your mouse in the timeline, the playhead will follow, seems it doesn't have on the DR...
Chad if you can buy only one and you have to choose between this mouse( or the previous gaming mouse ) and the Speed Editor, which would you choose? which give you the most advantage?
For some reason, the shift+[ and shift+] are not working as shortcuts in davinci resolve with this mouse, even when it says it is correctly assigned in the logi app. has anyone else had this issue? everything else seems to be working, just these two commands. neither when assigned to a button, or a gesture.
I’m having the same issue and it’s driving me crazy. Properly assigned in the logi app too. When in davinci I can do the physical key shortcut and it works but nothing with the forward and back buttons on the mouse
Thanks for the video. I’ve heard a lot of negative reports on Reddit, saying this mouse stutters a lot when used with an M1 Mac, though I’m not sure how this would perform with a MacStudio M1 Ultra which is what I have. I use Resolve and an Apple Magic Mouse so I don’t have a 3rd button which is maddening. What would you recommend in my case?
I've got an M1 Mac and it's never stuttered once on me! Get the "MX Master 3S for Mac" specifically and play with the settings until it scrolls as desired. I've got it running to my Dell U2723QE as well and not a single jump or stutter. That said, make sure you're on the latest Apple + Logitech firmware because this CAN make a huge difference.
Wouldn't be a good idea if logi option added the option to use the side scroll wheel to move the Current Time indicator [CTI] ? spoke too soon. Actually I did it with right and left arrow assignments.
Here's the keying I've been using: Thumb - Top=Space, Right = Shift+6, Down = Shift+Backspace, Left=Shift+4, Press = Backspace Scroll Wheel - Up = I, Right = N, Down = 0, Left = Ctrl+Shift+L, Press = P Center Button - Up = Ctrl+=, Right = Down, Bottom = Ctrl +-, Left = Shift + H, Press = Shift +1 Left forward side button - Up = F9, Right = F10, Down = Shift + F11, Left = F11, Press = Shift + F11 Left rear side button - Up = A, Right = F12, Down = Ctrl + B, Left = B, Press = Ctrl +B

anyone else having trouble assigning back and forward buttons to shift + [ and shift + ] , i can assign the buttons but when I press them davinci doesn't recognize it :(
Hello, Ive been trying to sort out the shortcut for the middle scroll wheel. My MX Master mouse didn't have a default on the middle scroll wheel. If I wanted to program it what would the copy/past shortcut be? Right now mine is set to finder, so anytime I try to copy and paste the attributes I get a new finder window.
Hey there! Havent you got any problems when scrolling?? I’ve just switch from pc to a macbook pro m1 max with monterey and the whole mouse experience (specially the scroll acceleration) is driving me crazy. I’ve even tried third party apps like steer mouse without luck :( Any suggestions here???

- If not, do you know if it's possible to make the mouse behave like 3 different mice on the same computer using the bluetooth selector? That way, profile 1 could be for editing, and profile 2 could behave differently in the color page etc using different shortcuts.
I just recently picked up the Speed Editor (thanks partially to your videos on it) - do you find yourself using both the mouse and the Speed Editor?
I am currently using the standard magic mouse that came with my mac, and although it is a pretty cool mouse...well...there is no middle click 🙄🤣 #firstworldproblems 😂
Thanks so much for this Chadwick - this has really helped me with my decision 🙏🏻
Cheers!
@@CreativeVideoTips #middleclicksmatter 😂
Cheers for the heads-up on the app too man 🙏
thanks mate!!!, nice ones the tips for trim in and out, more videos , let us know about davinci 18!!
dude imma comment again, this video is super helpful, i got to learn so much about the basic stuff which will (i hope) help me save hours and hours of editing
super helpful tips really comfortable with my MX2S.
Great to hear! Thanks for watching ;)
Thanks for the video. I picked up a few things I didn't know that you could do even with a regular mouse in Resolve (mouse wheel rotate + Ctrl, Alt, or Shift). I bet that mouse case is collecting dust!
Thanks Chad, now I can set up my Logitech Mx ergo to these same functions in Davinci Resolve.
I use the two side buttons as split and delete without ripple, because often I need to have the space for something else or I need that section of the clip placed somewhere else
Hello, can you please do a video update on this mouse? People are talking about major issues with the rubber becoming very sticky and even liquefying...
ever get one?
arrow up and down (page fowrad and back) in my configuration is for up and down vomume
Ah, that's a good idea. I like that.
What’s the keyboard shortcut for the Delete Forward button? 2:39
Did you ever figure this out? I can't seem to program this.
Shift Backspace?
Thanks for that, I am going to buy one based on this video!!!!
Good choice! I still love and use mine every single day. :)
Thanks for this great tips video. Well executed for us beginners to follow.
My only wish with this mouse is that I‘d bought it sooner. I have my old mouse on my old laptop which I sometimes use, and I can‘t tell you how much more comfortable the MX is.
You are, an absolute legend. Subscribed. Thank you so much, love and appreciate your work!
I'm going to dig out my MX2 and give it a try.
Awesome - let me know how it goes Elvin.
I've had this software before but the Options software always takes over my screen and causes my gaming to minimize back to the desktop.
you have the BEST videos.
dude thank you! I'm sorry i'm so far behind on comments and missed this. I really appreciate your generosity!
OMG I hit the subscribe button as soon as I heard the words APEC bearings hahahahah
Thanks, Dave....
i have this mouse for a few momths now and it is really great. Btw thx for letting me know those shortcuts. It is really userful.
Happy to help! I think that silly Z, zoom to fit, was one of those I neglected to understand until way too long after using Resolve.
Yea, think it's time for me to get this mouse. Thanks for the vid!
Thanks for these super helpful tips!
Love it. Trim start and Trim end are so useful. Thanks so much for watching and also creating great video content as well!
@@DaytonRivera THIS MOUSE SUCKS. VERY GOOD UNTIL IT STOPPED WORKING. SECOND MOUSE, SAME PROBLEM. BAD PRODUCT!
thanks for the video pal found it useful , I gotta get me a gaming mouse
Are you gonna to have tutorial of using Wacom with DS? Thank you all helpful tutorial videos 👍🇺🇸👍🇺🇸👍🇺🇸
Thanks for the suggestion. It is certainly on my list and I really like using it in Fusion. I appreciate you.
With this mouse, do you still use your speed editor given the shortcuts on the mouse?
I JUST bought this mouse and I can't believe I didn't purchase it sooner lol
Its still my favorite one out there.
Hi, is the Jog Wheel functionality in Davinci supported by any device apart from the Speed Editor?
Actually I did it with right and left arrow assignments.
good video!!!!! hey..we are overdue for more speed editor vids.)))
Can you please explain to me why I can't scroll horizontally in protools? Everything works fine except in protools, please.
Here's the keying I've been using:
Thumb - Top=Space, Right = Shift+6, Down = Shift+Backspace, Left=Shift+4, Press = Backspace
Scroll Wheel - Up = I, Right = N, Down = 0, Left = Ctrl+Shift+L, Press = P
Center Button - Up = Ctrl+=, Right = Down, Bottom = Ctrl +-, Left = Shift + H, Press = Shift +1
Left forward side button - Up = F9, Right = F10, Down = Shift + F11, Left = F11, Press = Shift + F11
Left rear side button - Up = A, Right = F12, Down = Ctrl + B, Left = B, Press = Ctrl +B

THIS MOUSE SUCKS. VERY GOOD UNTIL IT STOPPED WORKING. SECOND MOUSE, SAME PROBLEM. BAD PRODUCT!
SELL THIS FUCKING SHIT PEACE OF TECNOLOGY
Bro where did you get that hoodie?
What is the keyboard you are using with Resolve?
Is there a way to change de Ctrl+wheel to zoom to JUST wheel? im so use to it on sony vegas, and seems SO much better to me. Thanks!
Not that I’m aware of but that would be cool.
@@CreativeVideoTips ;( Thanks!
Sweet and Lovely review.
Do you have a link for all the shortcuts for a custom keyboard layout in Touch Portal?
Hello, Ive been trying to sort out the shortcut for the middle scroll wheel. My MX Master mouse didn't have a default on the middle scroll wheel. If I wanted to program it what would the copy/past shortcut be? Right now mine is set to finder, so anytime I try to copy and paste the attributes I get a new finder window.
where did you get that zoomy bubble on the mouse indicator
Thank you so much for this !
Awesome video, thank you so much 🤙🏼
Can this mouse be used as a wired mouse? All the time, not just while charging. Thanks!
Hey there! Havent you got any problems when scrolling?? I’ve just switch from pc to a macbook pro m1 max with monterey and the whole mouse experience (specially the scroll acceleration) is driving me crazy. I’ve even tried third party apps like steer mouse without luck :( Any suggestions here???
