The hardest part of this sale is going to be telling the wife you bought another boat that doesnt have a drivetrain or engine and then telling her it needs a little bit of work. Can't wait for that video!
Outstanding Luke! Be sure to contact your City Building Dept. and make sure that this is all doable, and whether there will be any issues that they spring on you, like all of a sudden because you're developing a City lot, they want sidewalks put in, restrooms that are handicap capable, paved parking and curbs with controlled drainage...and on and on and on. One minute you're thinking, "I just wanna park a cool vintage boat and a refrigerator and keep selling crabs" and the next minute it's a $300k project that needs umpteen permits, inspections, the hiring of engineering firms, and on and on.
This is great advice and something I was going to suggest but I've seen the state take down finished and ongoing projects for the absurdist reasons. Once personally had to remove a custom hand shaped sign with vynl laminate and red led rope inlayed around the perimeter and the light reflected backwards off the building and couldn't even be seen directly, yet the city claimed it was to much of a distraction to drivers... Regardless of the 50 other signs along the street, casting direct light outward and toward drivers.
You are right about costing more money than you think, but your idea is something that other people will certainly like. It will be a magnet for your business plan. You remind me of me years ago. Looking to build up your business. I lobstered in Maine for 20 years. I like your idea and style,I think you will do very well with this project and adventure. Good luck I don’t think you will regret this decision. Have fun with it.
That’s gonna be one kick ass crab stand! Crazy part is I went looked at double trouble and the one you bought. Beautiful pieces of history but them girls were rough man.
Luke, I think it’s a genius idea. People are going to be talking your crab stand boat for miles and miles. Just remember Luke 14:28. “ when building a tower, you must first count the cost “ , and you are going to be fine. Keep up the good work Luke, you got me through last year’s work, and I’m a better person this year.
Luke, I've watched a ton of your videos and I am extremely impressed with your attitude, work ethics, and tenacity ! Like some of the other comments suggested, unless they throw a bunch of unnecessary permit requirements and such, you and your wife are gonna do just fine ! Love your videos and please keep us updated on the outcome !
Luke, as a boy growing up in Gloucester Point Va, brings back so many memories. My Dad was a Marine Biologist working for VIMS in Gloucester. Lived there from 1948-1963. I can remember going on one the research boats that looked very similar to your dead rise boat, she was called the Virginia Lee. Growing up there on the York river was amazing too, and I really miss the fresh seafood. Sort of land locked now live in Ohio outside of Cincinnati. Take care and wish you safe cruises!
There used to be a Deadrise on the south side of 301, advertising one of the Crab Houses back in the Day. it was suspended by telephone poles. I wanna say it was south of Waldorf. It deteriorated over the years and collapsed. I must have rode past that Ole boat a thousand times on My Motorcycle... IT...was a statement. Your Crab Boat will be the same hysterical LANDMARK...that No One Will FORGET. Great advertising forever.
Wasn't that Capt Leonard's restaurant? I think that was on rt 5 though....been a while since I've been that way, spent a lot of time at Cape st Mary's and Seabreeze growing up.
im a map explorer, so found the place on google maps, cool to see the pics from streetview over the years from 2013 to 2022. in 2021 you can see the for sale sign on the lot. No updated view with the crab shack yet though. There is a bunch of reviews for the seafood, and not surprisingly, every single one is a 5 star rating. keep it up Luke, history in the making.
I recall working in Ocean City, Md, in the 70’s and we set a skip Jack in front of a restaurant as a yard art. Interesting to get a sand pit and watching the boss direct us to get it leaning just right. Never a dull moment. Somehow I recall, there is probably a Michelob bottle or 6 under her.
As a charter boat captain in Florida I really enjoy watching your content and it makes me want to get into TH-cam. A crab boat crab stand is a really cool idea. Keep the videos coming!
I stumbled on your TH-cam channel by accident about two weeks ago and I've been a subscriber since. I respect what you do and since I live in St. Mary's County, I know how hard our fisherman work to ensure we have crabs and oysters. Well done sir.
hey Luke, this is a great idea! idk if you've ever been to Rolfs Wharf, its in QAC right on the Chester and they have "the sandbar" which is a restaurant/bar they made from an old boat, similar to what you want to do. I bet they'd be willing to give you advice if you need
You are going to be ok Luke. You have a very good business sense, especially for a young guy. I'm most sure that your new venture will be a success. Love your channel, love your content. Keep the videos coming!🙂
As a business owner myself, I know customer experience is something that can get ignored in a business especially when things are hard. I think this is an amazing idea and should attract a lot of customers who have no idea who you are or what you do. Make it STAND OUT though so people don’t just think it’s a boat on the side of the road.
Luke, anchor your boat to the ground and add footers so it’s a fixed structure. Then have BGE run power to it so you can plug your reefer box in to the boat instead of running a generator and all the expense of gas. With electricity you can run a wireless camera system to monitor your property. You could also keep a refrigerated box in the cabin to store premade orders. Having full time electricity you could also install a WiFi thermostat to monitor the temperature of the refrigerator to avoid losing crabs because the power went out. Just a couple suggestions.
Reminds me of The Shrimp Boat out of Ocean City MD. Look into it if you’re not familiar with it. They have the boat out on front by the road where you can pick up the fresh shrimp and crabs. They also have a sit in restaurant. But what does it for me is that you can order the stuff and they will cook it up for you for an additional charge to take home eating ready. Love the channel man and if I ever find my way near Baltimore, I’ll make a point to stop at your place for some good fresh crab.
Luke, I don't know what to say. You are an amazing young man. I will be visiting you this summer with your new boat/store. You see things like a tinkerer, the beauty beneath. Congratulations. Love from Delaware
There is nothing like the ride of a Chesapeake Deadrise. If it's too rough for a Deadrise to go in. you don't need to go. We were coming up the bay in a Navigator getting our ass handed to us. A smaller heavily laden deadrise managed to catch with us and tuck in to run with us. I have spent many an hour under way on a deadrise. But that just blew me away to see just what they can do in rough seas. They are tough stable workhorses and take one hell of a beating for many years and keep going.
Yesss! LOVE IT! Can't wait to follow the progress of the build! I moved to Garrett county but when I travel to Pasadena you know who I'm calling for crabs! Get it bro 💪
Definitely not one of a kind ever hear of hoopers in ocean city? They have like 6 boats attached to their restaurant for people to go and eat their food. It’s been there for quite some time too
Congrats ! If you ever need some design work for your merch- crab boat decals or anything…. I’d be happy to work on anything u need. Web design or whatever. Happy to do it for free. Just because I genuinely enjoy the hustle - I’m the same way gearing and using others junk for my treasures. I’m wishing you and your wife continued success and good health
Hi Luke. I live up in New Jersey. I am in the inland water way. Let me know if you need any help. I am pretty good with my hands on house boats and cars. Helped my dad some years ago. We built a 55 foot steel sailboat in our back yard. It was in all the local news .let me know if you need a second hand down there on weekends.
Man what a cool idea to use that as a storefront, can’t wait to see the work begin and hope we get to come along for the ride as you outfit this thing!
Here in michigan there use to be a boat builder/racer, at one time they took 1 of his old boats and built a bar with it, the stern went through an outdoor wall to be used as a bar on the deck the rest was indoors and used as a bar indoors! It was pretty awesome!

Build a trailer from your stuff “laying around”, throw that boat on it, remove the engine and running gears, install a refrigeration compressor down where engine was, demo and replace old floor, find an old walkin box refrigerator and mount that on the new floor, you can even use the cabin if you insulate the sides of the boat with close 2-3” thick foam foil sheets. You can get a 100 amp electrical service set at the property from electric company if that could be considered as a “Temporary Structure” like a modular house. All this would depend on what the property is zoned as. You might have access to a marine piling to use as meter, panel mounting and power company will run power from street to power pole. You're doing what any good businessman would do you are investing in your business you're making yourself a heck of a Crab Shack really interested to see what you decide on doing with it when you put it down I would dig out some on the lot shut her down in the hole use the soil from from the dig to shore it up make some piling to go along either side nothing too fancy but to give that feel that it's docked but whatever you do I have faith in you that you will do an incredible job and it will come out beautifully
A 36ft deltaville dead rise is what my dad passed down to me. He ran her for 40 years crabbing oystering running fishing parties and pleasure fishing up and down the bay even in chincoteague and her home being Crisfield where I still have her.
Excellent business strategy!!! I have been telling people for years that the middlemen are killing Agriculture, herding and fishing. That and too many damn rules and regulations. Going direct has made several of my friends serious money. I not only get a saving but the quality goes way way up and I know who is selling me my stuff.
I have to say, I love your enthusiam and energy! You are very smart with fixing things, mechanicals and making shi$ work! I have no dought you will be successful with this new venture!! Cheers to you my friend and wish you success with your crab selling store front boat :) You are the best!

You should build a 12 foot section of pier, like a deck for your customers to walk on to come up to the boat to get their crabs. That would be cool!
With a built on cooler!
