    The reason I haven't started crabbing yet this season is because of the amount of work that still needs to be done. I have over 1000 crab pots that need to be painted, crab line buoys that need to be built, and a trailer that needs fixing. I'm only a few short weeks away from dropping crab pots, but there is still a ton that needs to be done!

    Sad that even up there some jerks are trying to get rid of new crabbers. I’m in Alabama and my uncle wanted to just crab as a retired old man. He had 20 pots maybe. His buoys got cut and lost all his pots. Who does stuff like that? People think they own the water. Good for you keeping those messages as a reminder to keep doing what you do. You’re a huge success. And God definitely will deal with them. Hopefully their hearts will change.
    Oh I was so happy that your wife brought you coffee. She’s a good woman. You are definitely blessed.

Those commercial guys must feel a lot of pressure to make money. Obviously there’s a lot of cost in it as well. Who knows. I recently had my own moment of fear regarding $15 and being petty about it. I’m smacking myself now because I really was all about fear and not trusting God. Oh well. Glad I’m feeling convicted and will watch out for that greedy monster inside me. 🙏🏻

      Regs are limiting seasons left and right. Climate change (whether you think it is man made or not) is really leading to yield problems when combined with all of their other pressures. Overfishing, pollution, sediment run off in the case of the Chesaepeke, etc. We had one of the lowest spawns of Strippers ever so they shut down the charters and commercial is in the future. As something like only 50% of fish caught from commercial end up on a plate.

I stopped fishing and went to work doing "repo" commercial fishing vessels and taking them back up to Seattle Washington. As for tightening them the best way I’ve found is when you look at it the spokes make a “v” tighten those 2 first and directly below the “v” tighten it first then the last 2 bolts. That axle set up is what is known as dayton hubs. Dayton hubs are stronger, but scare a lot of people off since they can be dangerous since tires do fall off if stuff isn't checked. But perfect for what you need.
    That being said an old farmers trick of tightening them up, sit a drink can on the ground at the bottom sidewall edge of the tire and spin it and slowly tighten the lugs all the way around. If it hits you have one side further out and it will wobble going down the road.

    When I look at you I don't see race. I see a smart driven individual trying to make it in this world. I don't know how old you are but you seem like my kind of guy. I really do hope the very best for you and your new bride. And if I live closer I would be more than grateful to donate some of my time to you. And that's just because I only surround myself with intelligent individuals.

    I think I get why you run your own business and don't work as just a crab fisherman, and it's not just because of the money. You know you can make the decisions that will improve you and your crew's success and grow your business. That's a harder battle and not as worth it when you're just a number working on a crew. Please keep doing what you're doing. The world needs more leaders who get their hands dirty, help each other, and know that we should be working towards the same goal together. This applies to everything in life. Love seeing your ingenuity, engineering, and accidental multitasking. From an IT analyst with a mechanical engineering degree :)

    Luke you need to sell your crabs threw local CSA's. Community Supported Agriculture. CSA's are a great way to support your local small farmers while getting real, local food produced by people that don't hate you like the government does.

    We used to build boat docks. The bottom was painted with aluminum oxide primer then covered in cold tar. We painted the top with Imron until the EPA made that stuff illegal (with good reason).

    Bubba.. You had me cracking up. Lol. Keep on doing what you are doing. You seem like a hard worker and funny as hell. You are a true American. Don’t let others try to put you down. There are some ruthless assholes out there. Good luck with your crab fishing.

    One thing that will hugely help you out and make things easier, invest in a tool box for the boat, the home, the truck, storage lot, not having to track down tools and having everything you need in a moments notice is honestly a game changer

    • @pdm1289
      @pdm1289 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Definitely! Exactly the same setup of tools in each box/bag. Heck you probably have 2-3 sets of most things laying around already, scattered around. Ask one of your deckhands or your wife to organize this project. Learning to delegate is the toughest part of learning to be a leader. And delegation is also one of the signs of an effective leader.

    Don’t worry Luke, you’ll get it all done before the crabs show up. The scenes with the truck hood brought tears to my eyes I was laughing so hard. Try looking in the middle of the hood, use a flat head screwdriver and pop the latch, hoods open…😂😂😂

    14:00 - UniBit (aka Step Bit) - absolute best for drilling PVC, hands down. Have drilled many thousands of holes with these - hardly ever chip, don't pull up onto the bit, good stuff - a little pricy but WELL worth the investment in time saving...
