Love Mel Robbins and this video! Ever since I’ve been taking cold showers, I can totally relate to what she’s saying. It has changed my life and how I approach life circumstances.

When I was pregnant with my daughter in 2016 I took a birthing from within class. One of the practices was plunging our hand into a bowl of ice water for certain amount of time and do it again and again. The idea was for us and our partners to find things that were supportive and soothing during discomfort and panic. It's incredible how you lose track of time and if you can accept the pattern of it, accept the discomfort and disengage from the narrative of how much it sucks.... Your body can handle a lot.

Taking cold showers brings about the same feeling in that moment where you break from the thought of..."get me the fuck out" to, "I am OK, I am Safe, I am not going to die", I am calm and in a meditative state! 🙏😌💜 Awesome moment for you Mel! ✋

You are absolutely amazing 🤩. My son takes ice baths after a hard preride for a race (mountain biker) and he always wears socks. I asked him why lol and he said it helps him to be able to focus and stay in longer 🤷🏼‍♀️. He usually lasts about 10 mins 🤯

When I was 10 I remember going to Virginia Beach. First time looking out at the waves of the ocean. We walked out on a pier to some large rocks. I got entranced by the waves and just slipped in. It was Jan 1. I know the feeling of the shock. My cousins pulled my out and ran me to the car. Stripped me and threw their jackets over me and hugged me and rubbed warmth back in me. I remember not being able to catch my breath and my heart racing. The waves disorienting me and slapping me down. What an experience to face. Controlling your mind is practice. Good one for helping those triggers. Good one for learning to be while immersed in chaos.

Fun to see your puppy playing behind Chris during his plunge! I’m six months in to my chapter 60 life transformation and my January 1 polar bear plunge in Birch Bay, WA best thing ever and now I need to score a barrel!

In my experience, I think it helps with depression and anxiety because when we are experiencing those, we are largely stuck in our head. When we feel anxiety, we are thinking about all the bad things that could happen, going through hypothetical scenarios in our head, trying to figure out how we would handle them and how we would feel if they happen.. to the point where we can physiologically react to this with a racing heart, shortness of breath etc. With depression, it’s often more about the past, what we wish we would have done differently, how things could have been different if only we did X thing, and fear of the past repeating itself in the future. Thats a lot of thinking about things that aren’t the present moment. The present moment is I am sitting on my sofa right now typing this to you. The ice bath is such an extreme physical sensation that it forces my awareness into the present moment. Your awareness is more on your body’s sensory experience of the cold and thus those thoughts and fears fall away and get quieter in that moment. At least this is what I’ve found in my own experimentation with ice baths and cold showers!

Why do we let words take power, they are just words. I used to be the same with the f-bomb, but I learned from a spiritual teacher that we give the word the power, and let that control, our choices! Maybe Mel will comment on this some day! 🙏
