He was writing Chairman Mao’s poem.
    沁园春·雪 1936年2月
    Snowscape ①
To the tune of Spring Garden Show
    北国风光,千里冰封,万里雪飘。
It’s the winter scenery of Northern China,
Snowflakes flying all about the frozen world. ②
    望长城内外,惟馀莽莽;大河上下,顿失滔滔。
Overseeing: both sides of the Great Wall
Turns into a vast expanse of whiteness,
    And the Yellow River’s torrent
    Is suddenly lost in sight.
    山舞银蛇,原驰蜡象,欲与天公试比高。
Like silver serpents dancing in the mountains,
Like waxy elephants galloping on the highland,
It tries to vie with the Lord of Heaven. ③
    须晴日,看红妆素裹,分外妖娆。
Waiting till the day to be fine,
Clad in white with red sunshine,
    It grows much more enchanted.
    江山如此多娇,引无数英雄竞折腰。

Hello, I'm also a European guy.
I first came to Chengdu in 2016 and instantly fell in love with the city and an adorable local lady.
We got married here in 2017 and have been a happy couple ever since.
As a result of family reunion process, I live here as a resident of Chengdu.
It was very heartwarming to see your openness towards our beloved city, Chinese culture and local people.
I've subscribed and watched all your videos so far.
I wish you many more beautiful experiences during your travels in this stunning country.
Just stay as interested and accepting as you've been, then I'm sure that the other cities and provinces won't disappoint you either.

Dear Luke and Naomi, you guys have made Chengdu your first destination and it literally gladdened my heart. I myself am a globetrotter and a professional landscape/travel photographer. A decade ago when I visited China for the first time, Chengdu was my first destination like you guys. You made me dive in my reminiscence of my wonderful days in the lovely city Chengdu. I am so happy that you guys are enjoying this beautiful laidback, yet a megacity like Chengdu. My first impression of Chengud was exactly like yours. I fell in love with this city ever since and visited three more times later, in fact I had stayed for a few months on my second trip to Chengdu. Last time I went to Chengu was in 2018 with my broken leg as I had an accident in Vietnam and broke my leg and ankle, still I pushed my limit to fly to Chengdu on crutches from Hanoi, Vietnam. I have a lot of beautiful friends in Chengdu, I didn't have to stay in a hotel, I stayed in friends' houses. They took care of me and made my trip wonderful and unforgettable. So many wonderful memories in Chengdu. I am also glad you guys are having several days to explore this city. So many things to explore. I have a few recommendations, since you are in Sichuan, visit Jiuzhagou which is an absolute paradise. Not far from Chengdu, a few hours bus drive to Jiu. You guys have no idea how beautiful Jiuzhaigou is, if you visit, I am sure you will be more astonished about China. It is not only a country of modern futuristic high tech clean cities, friendly people and delicious foods, but its natural beauty is unparalleled. I also love your vlogging style. You guys are so calm, composed and positive. Have a beautiful trip.

    1. The Monument to the Sichuan Army's Anti-Japanese Fallen Soldiers in Chengdu People's Park, also known as the "Monument to the Nameless Heroes", was built in 1944 to commemorate the more than 600,000 Sichuan soldiers who died in the Anti-Japanese War. During the Anti-Japanese War, about 3.5 million young and middle-aged people from Sichuan went out of Sichuan to fight against the Japanese. The combat footprints of the Sichuan Army spread all over 17 provinces and cities in China, and it participated in 28 large-scale campaigns and battles. On the frontal battlefield of the Anti-Japanese War, on average, one out of every five Chinese soldiers was from Sichuan; on average, one out of every 17 people in Sichuan went to the front line. The Sichuan Army suffered nearly 650,000 casualties, and the number of those who sacrificed in the war ranked first in all of China.
    2. The southwestern region of China, including Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan and other places, is considered the center of the origin of tea trees. Among them, Mengdingshan in Ya'an City, Sichuan is the earliest place in Chinese history where artificial tea cultivation is recorded in writing. The historical origin of Mengdingshan tea can be traced back to the Western Han Dynasty. During the Tang Dynasty, the five peaks of Mengdingshan were designated as the "Imperial Tea Garden", and the tea produced became a tribute, exclusively for the royal family to enjoy.

During the Anti-Japanese War, a total of 3.5 million people in Sichuan participated in the war, and 650,000 people died. They used the most primitive weapons, and some didn't even have guns, just a big knife.
When the Mongols invaded China, the people of Sichuan resisted heroically. At that time, Sichuan's total population was 12.95 million. After being massacred by Mongolia, only 600,000 remained. People from other provinces moved to Sichuan one after another. As a Sichuanese, my ancestral home may be from other provinces.

Most Chinese people do understand the prohibitions like Hitler salute. However, Nazi Germany was too far away from us, and even offered help during the WWII to fight back Japanese invader (sounds rediculous but true), so it is almost impossible for most of us to take that very seriously and be sensitive about Nazi Germany related stuff in China. Although it might sound really really disrespectful and offensive, Hitler and everything is more like a meme in China (not including the official of course), whereas everything related to Japanese fascism is strictly forbidden. However, I must point out that the Chinese people fully understand the suffering that Nazi Germany brought to the people of the world because we are victims just like you, and if someone is doing something inappropriate for other countries in China, they definitely mean no harm, they just don't know the seriousness behind all of it.

I don't know if you know it but tea is from China. The British, grew fond of tea so much that, they couldn't purchase it with silver because back then British was poor. So with the help of East India company they made the farmers illegally grow opium instead of vegetable crops in India's Bengal region while starving the Indian farmers to death, and smuggled it into China, and got Chinese traders hooked and addicted to opium in return for silver bars to British, with which they purchased the tea from China and planted in huge swaths of land in South India and sri Lanka. This way the British syphoned out all the wealth from China with trade imbalance, and shifted the production status of tea into India, making China and India poor among many other robbing tactics and became incredibly rich. So, that's why you see tea in Sri Lanka.

They wrote traditional Chinese characters on the ground in different scripts. One of them wrote a poem by Mao Zedong, the founder of the Communist Party: "The scenery of the north is covered with ice and snow. Looking inside and outside the Great Wall, there is only wilderness; the great river has lost its roar."

    See what the northern countries show;
    Hundreds of leagues ice-bound go;
    Thousands of leagues flies snow.
Behold! Within and without the Great Wall.
The boundless land is clad in white,
And up and down the Yellow River.
All the endless waves are lost to sight.
    Mountains like silver serpents dancing,
    Highlands like waxy elephants advancing,
All try to match the sky in height.
Wait till the day is fine
And see the fair bask in sparkling sunshine,
    What an enchanting sight!
Our motherland so rich in beauty
Has made countless heroes view to pay her
    their duty.
But alas! Qin Huang and Han Wu,
    In culture not well bred,
And Tang Zong and Song Zu
    In letters not wide read.
And Genghis Khan, proud son of Heaven for
    a day,
Knew only shooting eagles by bending his
