As a Chinese living in Canada, one thing I love about these videos is the showcase of the abundance of food options and food culture there in different locations. It makes me miss it so much! Glad you guys enjoy China❤
I really enjoy watching the videos you make. China has many very, very beautiful landscapes. Welcome to China. The Chinese people are warm and hospitable, and we all like friends from afar.
I really like your videos, and you are very popular on Chinese TH-cam(Bilibili) and TikTok, with more than 100 million views. Thank you for your objective evaluation of China, and welcome to China.
Personally, I think Dali is the most livable place in China. Life is convenient but not over-exploited, and the climate is warm and pleasant. A very unique microclimate is formed around Cangshan Lake and Erhai Lake.Culture is mixed and diverse, full of artistic flavor and enthusiasm for life.
The ultraviolet rays in Dali during summer can burn people's skin, and the most livable place is still Guizhou. Because I have been to Dali, I slept on a stone for half an hour, and then an hour later my face turned red and started peeling😂
Amount all the foreign yourubers that visited China, you are the best!! thank you for your respect of the culture and everything! you guys deserve all the help and kindness from the local people!
Thanks for the video and bringing back a lot of my good memories about Dali❤ I traveled to Dali with my best friends after I graduated from college. We had a lot of fun there and tried a lot of poison mushroom, one of my friends said "no poison no delicious"😂 I am now living in US with my husband and two dogs, I watched this vlog with him and show off him those golden memories in my best years
Always great when new video from our two mad travellers appears on my feed, you two never disappoint show us your experiences, plus do make everybody Hungry 😀
Confucius said: It's a pleasure to have friends coming from faraway. Just talking about sincere, respectful and kind travelers like these two lovely person. And This is considered friendship in China.
The yellow dots are millet, and we believe that rice mixed with whole grains (corn, millet, sweet potatoes, yams, red beans, sorghum, peanuts, any other grain) is better for health. The idea is that the more diverse the foods you eat, the better for your health. The alcohol you bought is lychee flavor.
Regarding millet, I'd like to supplement with some intriguing historical facts. In fact, during WW2, millet had a significant impact on China's economy. Prior to 1945, China's legitimate government was the KMT, also known as the Republic of China. Amid the chaotic governance of the KMT, Japanese aggression, and the fragmentation of China into various warlord territories, different types of currencies were issued across the country, most of which were essentially worthless. These currencies were not tied to actual production or goods, and the political forces behind them would forcibly exchange them for gold and silver from the locals, essentially plundering their wealth. Amidst this economic turmoil, the Communist Party of China (CPC) recognized the severity of China's economic problems. In their controlled areas, the CPC issued their own red currency and established trading stations. Rather than compelling civilians to surrender their gold and silver, they consistently provided goods at stable prices within these stations - among which, millet, the staple food in northern China, played a pivotal role. People could always use the red currency to purchase millet or other essential goods at a reasonable price, fostering confidence in the currency's value. In a sense, much like the "Oil-dollar," the CPC created a highly stable "Millet-dollar" that became the most trusted currency in China during that time. Its credibility was so strong that even the Japanese invaders had to resort to using this stable currency towards the end of the war. Eventually, this red currency evolved into the currency we know today: the RMB or CNY.
I am Malaysian, the way you appreciate and describe the uniqueness of either food, tea or the scenic view just mesmerising audience. The eagerness you explored ancient town or even admired locals customs and manners are impressive. I think it is a place worth my visit too. 👍👍👍
The yellow things on your rice could either be millet (小米, pronounced Xiao Mi like the phone brand) or corn meal / polenta (玉米碴). The corns in China are less sweet and watery but more starchy/sticky.
Your travel difficulty has already progressed from beginner level (Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, Chengdu, Xi'an) to intermediate-level 😂. Moreover, your explorations are in-depth. I am truly impressed and curious to see where your limits will be in the future.
你好, I suggest you can stay at an old inn in the ancient city,You'll fall in love with the style inside🎉,wood,Flowers, sunshine, actually, that is old style china house(江南別院),You will love there, believe me😊
The beauty of those mountains as the backdrop of an ancient town in Yunnan will stay with me forever. Btw Yunnan is China's main coffee producing region and some of the specialty coffees there have very interesting flavor profiles and worth tasting for specialty coffee aficionados.
Your videos give off a very unique and down-to-earth vibe. Watching your videos is like talking to two old friends I've known for a long time, which I highly cherish. Thanks, and enjoy your journey in China.
I've noticed that Luke is getting more and more skilled at using chopsticks. I've been following your updates ever since you first came to China. China always has many surprises for you, so every time you feel like you've been to the best place or eaten the most delicious food, that feeling will soon be replaced by the next experience.
I guess they recognized you because your videos were translated and posted on Chinese TikTok, and a lot of viewers formed a consensus that you could be our friends. here are many TH-camrs traveling in China at the same time, but you are the most popular among Chinese viewers. Because you have a good ability to accept, love to laugh, always find good aspect. China is big, I hope you will continue your journey of exploration in China, and I wish you happiness.
评论区的你们都来自哪里?你们都是中国人来评论的吗?年龄多大?从事什么职业?为什么我很少看到其他中国相关的TH-cam视频带有偏见的评论?Where are you from in the comment section? Are you all Chinese commenting? How old are you? What is your occupation? Why do I rarely see biased comments on other China-related TH-cam videos????
A great video that reminds me of memories from Yunnan ten years ago. The scenery is very beautiful and the cultural atmosphere is even better. It's suitable to stay for a month
As a Chinese lives in China for 20 years and in Australia for almost 8 years, I missed Yunnan and the food there the MOST. I came from Chengdu which also has a lot of amazing food but I have to say Yunnan is on another level. Make sure try cured pork rib hotpot(腊排骨火锅) if you are going to Lijiang. It is a kind of hotpot made with cured/smoked pork ribs, then you should order some local mushroom with it, and I am pretty sure that will make you remember it for the rest of your life 🤤.
I am your big fan and now I live here in Dali. I went back from France 1 months ago to work here as a French and English teacher.❤ And our private school is just 5min from Er-Hai lake on foot.
As a Chinese, I really love your videos and appreciate how brave and kind you are in sharing your genuine experiences in China❤. If you enjoy traveling in natural landscapes, Xinjiang would be a really lovely place to travel!!! The blue and clear lake, the dense forests, the running cows and sheep by little path, along with the snowy mountains, are just incredible... I have never seen how humans and nature can coexist so closely. But, I have to say, if you can't bear the burden of long-distance travel driving since Xinjiang is a huge province, which could probably take 4 to 5 hours each day, it is not recommended. Anyhow, welcome to China!!
Very beautiful and wonderful scenery. There are people with all kinds of ideas in the comment area. Don’t mind those negative assumptions and enjoy the fun of travel and exploration! I wish you happiness! Thank you for sharing! 🙏♥️
You guys travelled more places in China than most Chinese do. Tks for video! Funny and detailed described!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻You two indeed become celebrities in China now.
Yup, the yellow dots are from corn. The mixed rice is more tasty. And don't miss out on the chicken soup mushroom hotpot - 野生菌火锅,roast cheese with rose jam - 玫瑰烤乳扇, sticky rice noodles - 怕肉饵丝, and Xizhou pie - 喜洲粑粑。 After Dali‘s Bai culture, please also visit Lijiang (Naxi culture) and Shangri-La (Tibetan culture), and then head to the south to Weishan - 巍山 ancient town, Tengchong - 腾冲,, and Xishaungbanna (Dai culture) - 西双版纳。Yunnan is the most ethnically diverse province in China, comparable to Xinjiang.
The thing to experience in Yunan is their unique Pu’er tea drinking culture. Yunnan is the Pu’er capital of the world. Pretty much all larger Pu’er tea shops in Dali offer free tea ceremony and tasting, where everyone, including both tourists and locals, all sit at a large, beautiful wood table, and the hosts keep bringing out new tea ‘cakes’ to brew and offer people to try, and that goes on all day. I visited Dali during rain season, so I spent hours a day at various tea shops in town, and there was never any pressure to buy, although I ended up getting a tea cake from the tea shop I was hanging out at most often. It’s a very special business model that I haven’t found in other parts of the world. Some of the Pu’er teas I tried were over a couple thousand USD per cake, something I would never tasted otherwise.
I like your attitude. You feel your journey with your heart, every detail, and your videos have given me great inspiration. We can face our life with a more pious mood and get along with our relatives and friends with a more gentle attitude.
The guy talking in his phone at 33:31 was one of my ex colleague in your video. We were coworkers about 13 years ago, but unfortunately lost in touch around 7 years ago, what are the odds? You never know what your videos will bring to people. Amazing, this episode will be the most impressive one.
Dali is known as the City of Eternal Spring. Because of the combination of latitude and elevation the weather and vegetation seems like spring all year.
What a huge green screen, everything is 3D printed😂😂😂 I'm joking. Omg this Absolutely stunning😮

I would be even more surprised and proud of China's technology if all of these beautiful sceneries are fake.

What a sight , a small town and surrounded by mountains.

I was in Dali some 20 years ago. Never forget the pork there. As I understand from the locals, they fed their pigs with highland barley.
Yeah, unlike the Large White pig from England, those small black pigs are China's native. Less efficient in producing meat, but more flavour.
