I used to work in a magic shop about 30 years ago and learned all the standard sleights and associated tricks. Over time I’ve found that I don’t really enjoy watching routines with sleights because once you know what to look for, it really spoils the effect. Lately I’ve been on a tear learning amazing ‘no sleight’ effects like this and it’s really been fun!
@@zamfearmagic Great sleight of hand is fine. I’m talking about clunky double lifts, palming, lame ways to count or display cards ala’ Elmsley or add on moves…that kind of thing.
This is wicked. I love it. I'm 61 years old and have loved magic all my life. Just now, I'm learning I actually can do it. Had I known earlier in life, it would have been so much more fun. 👍
I'm a Care Worker for very poorly people in the community. I've never done magic, so learning your self working magic tricks has been great, and the reactions I have had from those I support has been AMAZING! Thank you so much from myself, and those I have performed these to x x x
I'm in my 80s and came across card magic by chance and got hooked!! I prefer selfworking tricks as my manual dexterity is too poor for many of the sleight of hand tricks. I already perform a different version of this trick.
I love this effect. I do a slightly different variation, but it always has a great impact. If you want to add even more amazingness, have four different people choose and sign a card, then proceed with the effect using their cards instead of the queens. It of course ends with only their four cards face up. Mind blowing.
I’m an amateur magic nut. Love these self working tricks and have just tried this one. The final stage I thought ‘no way is this going to work’… but it did! Amazing!!
I love your channel and have been getting back into magic in my 50's. I LOVE this one. Also noticed that as long as you start with a number of cards that is divisible by 4 up to the whole deck, it always works as well, however it lengthens the trick. However get a HUGE reaction because the anticipation is built even more. Just wanted to throw this out there. Thank you sooo much for your channel
I watched it to the end, then got out a deck of cards and it worked first time. Pretty good considering I did it with miniature cards from a Christmas cracker. I dropped two cards on the floor and picked them up after a shuffle, guessing which way they faced, so I got lucky there. Did it again with no errors and it worked again. Great trick. I'm seeing my grandchildren on the 21st and using their terminology, this will "fry their brains".
This an intense beginners trick, but if you're intimidated, write down all the steps. Yes, when I wrote them down I believe it was 13 steps. But do it over and over and over until you remember the routine. I blew my own mind the first two times I executed it, because I dont underatand how it works. I'm good with "math tricks" but this breaks my brain. Thank you Matt for breaking this down for us plebs.
seven years ago, my wife arranged for a Fathers day gift from my sone of a seven week (one night per week) magic class, Best pressie ever !!! The teacher was a part time professional magician, classes were scheduled for 7pm-9:30pm. We would start with a 20 minute "show" where the teacher woud show the tricks we would learn that night. Rarely would we finish before midnight, having the best time you could imagine. The spark waslit and I have been practicing mostly playing card tricks since. lots of laughs and jokes when with friends and family. Your TH-cam videos are perfect for me to learn more tricks and to have a record to refresh my memory when I forget some of the nuances ofncertain tricks. Thanks a mill, please keep the videos coming
Great effect Matt! Definitely going into my set. I have a set that is purely self-workers, strung together so they flow one into the other, and spectators love it. Thanks for sharing this!
I'm always looking for new effects to add my routine, this will definitely be added. I would also love to learn your "flash of the queen" move, definite attention grabber! Thank you for sharing this.
An incredible trick! Thank you. I am housebound and have started to learn your tricks for my new hobby. Complete beginner. I performed this trick on my husband who was absolutely amazed!! 😮 I was amazed too !
Hi Matt. Just starting off in close up magic and cards seem to work best. I work as a school chaplain and just found it is a lot easier to have a deck of cards on hand than to carry a heap of props and gimmicks. I use the tricks to introduce myself to new students and they are great icebreakers for me to get to talking to them. Now I'm always being asked to "do a trick" with the cards so I am increasing my repertoire. Your channel I enjoy, especially the tricks where there is zero setup and/or the spectator does the working without me touching the cards. Keep up the great work.
Fabulous trick and just started since a shoulder op 6 weeks ago and have been totally learning your card tricks and getting better and better. Keep up the tuition it's great
Hey Matt, Love the channel and thanks for performing and explaining so many strong and awesome self working card magic. I'm learning as many as possible to perform at my marina this summer in the USA. Keep uploading your content.
Awesome I absolutely loved it I did while following your tutorial. I'm very new to magic, I'm a disabled Veteran and needed a hobby so I chose magic. Thank you for showing new tricks. Your a great magician and teacher.
Matt that's crazy .. i love your stuff . Im an old stage wizard from the 15th century. Im too old for jumping out of substitution trunks and girl from light illusions - so slowing down to card magic just to amaze myself nowadays. I've also worked at 3 different magic shops in the states . But i gotta say, the kiss principle when it comes to magic is the way to go . Any newbie out there just needs to learn that simplicity will amaze people more than any abracadabra story ❤️ 🎩
NICE. Over the last two days I've bookmarked five of your videos, including this one and now I need to get down to practicing so I can remember them. Thanks for the great channel.
I started doing card tricks at parties in the 1970's, and I've seen variations of this one recently, but this is, hands down (pun intended), the most elegant version. Thanks again Matt.
Thank.u, I have a great one too. I've never seen anyone do my trick but I want to see if you or anyone knows about it too, also I love the rule of 21 or 3 etc tricks the math ones that always work are fun too
I'm just starting out with learning a few card tricks and this one is going to be a regular for me. Thanks for posting the excellent video. Great style!
Wonderful stuff, man. I'm just a beginner and really appreciate how you make everything so fun. As you say, that's what it's all about! Keep crushing it.
This is astonishing. I've gone through it three times now--it worked fine each time--and I still can't get my head around 'how'. Love the channel--I'm learning card magic for my own enjoyment and that of friends and family! Plus, I've finally learned how to riffle-shuffle after six decades on the planet :)
Thanks, Matt. I try to keep a small number of routines like this on hand. When class time permits, I slip in a card trick or two. The kids always enjoy it.
I loved this. An amazing trick. I'm a total beginner. I've only ever done one card trick before and I've been repeating it for years. I thought is was time for something new and this trick seems like the place to start. Thanks, Matt.
Hi. Thanks for this, the trick looks great (I'll be trying it out later). I'm 59 yo and just took up 'card tricks' a couple of months ago. It was literally a case of buying a deck for the first time ever and then try to learn how to handle cards (i never played card games) and learn a few tricks from TH-cam. It's challenging... and fun. Very happy to have found your channel. Thank you
I started doing magic years ago the life got in the way took it up again in lock down and haven't looked back since I just love close up magic I am in my very early 70s am into old to do carry on doing thanks for all the card tricks and keep up the fantastic work
The trick you did here is based on a very old principle by Bob Hummer. He published it as Face Up Face Down Mysteries in the 40s. It uses a binary system that allows you to mix cards either face up or face down cards resulting in various outcomes, essentially restoring the original order or splitting the result evenly. Mr Koenigs Tapestry also known as Mr. Kings Tapestry, uses a layout of 16 cards whose rows or columns chosen by the spectator, are flipped until one stack is created. John Bannon also uses this principle in a trick called Origami Poker which uses 12 cards laid out in a square. Just as an aside, the part of the trick where you ask the spectator to either flip 2 cards or place them down can also be 4 cards, just as long as it's an even number. I use this type of binary system in another trick by asking if they want to do 4 or 2, flip or not, which I believe is a bit stronger. If you can get a hold of Face Up Face Down Mysteries, you could do this trick and then segue into (just about) any Bob Hummer routine. I believe the Richard Vollmer routine was published in Apocalypse (Vol. 14 No. 3) as Mr. Kings Tapestry using the 4 by 4 grid. I've been performing magic since I was 12, and I'm well into my sixties. Love this by the way.
Hi Matt :) thanks for sharing this Beautiful magic trick. Sure we love this queen production, will you make a tutorial please ? Kind regards from France :)
Iam new to magic and yes i did fool myself could you please please teach the 4 queen production it really makes the trick together with the brilliant reval at the end thanks john😊
Thanks Matt! I have been looking at card magic for just over 2 weeks now and your channel was recommended. I have subscribed and liked. Looking forward to seeing more of your tricks 💚🏴👍
Matt! Just retired and decided I needed a way to entertain 3 grandsons...I watched a few of your other card trick videos and nailed them...today I watched this one (4 Queens) and am still shaking my head...it worked the first time I tried it. Amazing....by the way...Happy Cruisin'
Matt... I just came across some of your videos and they are pretty good! Might I suggest that you give the name of the effect and who originated it? This would help lock it into memory AND point your viewers to other good stuff that can be sought out.
Great suggestion! I always do when I have the source. Some of these I’ve been performing for years and I’ve actually forgotten where they learnt them. Thanks for the feedback my friend.
Love u lol so i tried 1 time and messed up and i realized its how you start dealing them. When you deal them you half ti start on thour left i started on myself and it seems not to work but second time i got it lol thank you.....messed up 3rd time got it on the 4th lol u have to remember to flip cards lol
I'm newly retired and looking to have fun and learn new things. This is going to be great with the Grandchildren and and those at the club I go to. Thanks
Really nice effect. I'm thinking the Gilbreath principle is involved, though I don't know its intricacies well enough to be certain. I have Lorayne's Apocalypse series, so I'll have to do some exploring and find it there. Thanks for sharing this.
Absolutely amazing. Love card magic but am not dexterous enough. This is not even a setup. I’ll be using it with the guys next card night. Couldn’t believe it myself.
Yes, please do teach that production of the four queens. I do have Harry Lorayne's 4 volume Apocalypse. I missed that in there too. But there is so much to discover in those books.
New subscriber..... love it! These bagger self working tricks are great when you need a break from "thinking/focusing" and need some audience interactive time!... Thanks for this
@@MattMcGurk - found this video again after you paired it with another video (Choose 3 of a pair), and did it 2x on myself. Gonna do this tonight to my wife and daughter!! Super trick!!
Thanks for that really nice bit of card magic, just going to ponder how i can use this with another trick with 4 kings as well, a double kicker is always nice. great presentation keep up the good work. subscribed!
I started doing card tricks a few years ago, when I started learning magic to perform to my grandchildren after restrictions were lifted. I came across you on line only a couple of months ago, & love your no set-up card tricks. You are brilliant! Thank you!
Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks? I've been performing magic of all types for close to 30 years now (I'm 74, started performing a bit late, but have always enjoyed magic) and I love this trick. I especially like the production of the four queens at the start. It's a beautiful and very visual flourish. I'll definitely check out 'Mr. Koenigs Tapestry' as well. "Thanks, and Have a Magical Day!" P.S. I just subscribed to your channel👍😀
Hey Matt i seen many videos and this is like the triumph almost wow I do card tricks as well I did this awesome trick but with aces and made a story of how 4 aces are a great hand in card games etc. It's so easy blew thr minds I love these kind of self working tricks.
I like this one. A variation to this trick is with 5 black suits and 5 red suits. Using the same principle that each card originally flipped with its partners (same suit) will always end up together. In the end, the black suits will be faced in the opposite direction of the reds!
@@MattMcGurk The first time I was introduced to this was from a video by VSauce some years back; he was explaining the "magic of math". It's the only card trick video he's done, so it's easy to find. (Specific trick at 10:01) th-cam.com/video/ObiqJzfyACM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=8gfeGTmhJGkCBc4z
Wow, it seems absolutely impossible. But that's what great magic's about, right? I would love to learn that beautiful magical production of the 4 queens!
OMG hi, I just watched your video and tried the trick, guess what it worked, I thought it wouldn't lol, just don't ask me to explain, I am a beginner and this is definitely the best magic tricks ever, you're the best man, thank you so much for this video, funny I'm right around the corner from you tonight I'm in fort Lauderdale, enjoy Miami wild city, but be careful
Stick with it! Maybe this will help Easy In the Hands Riffle Shuffle Tutorial for Beginners with Bridge Ending. th-cam.com/video/nbTbRY3YE-U/w-d-xo.html
You probably already know this, but you can add 32 cards from the pack to the queens and the effect still works. Just my opinion, but the more cards you're 'mixing up' during the routine then the more impressive the outcome looks. 😀

100% agree with you, sir. All of the tricks I do are self working, I much prefer them!
Even better are self working tricks that seem impossible even after you know how they're done. Like this one.

I totally disagree. Tricks done with good stealth sleights are miracles. Tricks with piles and procedures are puzzles.

Thanks Jeff! I’m so glad you rediscovered your love for magic. I feel honoured to be part of your continued journey. All the best buddy, Matt.
Indeed you are correct. It is Bob’s CATO principle. Well researched! ❤️

@@MattMcGurk - found this video again after you paired it with another video (Choose 3 of a pair), and did it 2x on myself. Gonna do this tonight to my wife and daughter!! Super trick!!
Many thanks for this great trick. I knew an ,,easier" version of it with less mixing, but so it is more awesome. :)
Wish you nice trip :)
Saw you on a celebrity cruise to Iceland last year and you were astounding and so engaging with the audience!
Awesome! Thanks for coming to the show. I’ll be on the Equinox all this year.
Thanks for that really nice bit of card magic, just going to ponder how i can use this with another trick with 4 kings as well, a double kicker is always nice. great presentation keep up the good work. subscribed!
Nice one, thanks buddy! Welcome to the team
I started doing card tricks a few years ago, when I started learning magic to perform to my grandchildren after restrictions were lifted. I came across you on line only a couple of months ago, & love your no set-up card tricks. You are brilliant! Thank you!
It’s my pleasure Peter! I’m sure your grandkids love your tricks. The magic is is the look on their faces, am I right?
@@MattMcGurk & they want to learn everything now! At 6 & 9 years old too!!
Love watching You, Matt!!! This one was insane 🫶🫶🫶
Thanks! I’ve got some awesome tricks planned for future uploads too!
Thanks for the Sub! Lots more content to come
Like you say Matt , that’s crazy .
I’m gna play with that later . 👍
Have fun!
Hey Matt i seen many videos and this is like the triumph almost wow I do card tricks as well I did this awesome trick but with aces and made a story of how 4 aces are a great hand in card games etc. It's so easy blew thr minds I love these kind of self working tricks.
Thanks so much man! Yes I love this one too! Great reactions!
@MattMcGurk oh yes very good trick
Can't belive this works evry time. Can’t wait for your next show
Thanks buddy. I publish videos every weekend. Have some great stuff lined up!
Going into the next issue of my newsletter. Thanks.
I like this one. A variation to this trick is with 5 black suits and 5 red suits. Using the same principle that each card originally flipped with its partners (same suit) will always end up together.
In the end, the black suits will be faced in the opposite direction of the reds!
Sounds awesome, I’ll look out for that one, sounds interesting
@@MattMcGurk The first time I was introduced to this was from a video by VSauce some years back; he was explaining the "magic of math". It's the only card trick video he's done, so it's easy to find. (Specific trick at 10:01)

Wow, it seems absolutely impossible. But that's what great magic's about, right? I would love to learn that beautiful magical production of the 4 queens!

Vraiment chouette, merci beaucoup 👍
OMG hi, I just watched your video and tried the trick, guess what it worked, I thought it wouldn't lol, just don't ask me to explain, I am a beginner and this is definitely the best magic tricks ever, you're the best man, thank you so much for this video, funny I'm right around the corner from you tonight I'm in fort Lauderdale, enjoy Miami wild city, but be careful

@@MattMcGurk thanks.
You probably already know this, but you can add 32 cards from the pack to the queens and the effect still works. Just my opinion, but the more cards you're 'mixing up' during the routine then the more impressive the outcome looks. 😀
Absolutely! 💯
By the way I love your fun good humor. It really made my day.
Thanks Sam, it’s a work in progress!
