Land Rovers Freelander has long been regarded as one of the finest cars in its class. This 2007 TD4 model is in the sought after "HSE" model which features a luxury specification combined with the go-anywhere ability for which Land Rover are famous...
The Freelander 2 looks fantastic in metallic silver, and has the sought after panoramic glass roof. It comes fitted with front and rear parking sensors (very useful during tight maneuvers), fully electric front seats which are also heated and a large colour screen which houses the navigation system. You sit high with a commanding view of the road, in seats that are generously proportioned and superbly comfortable. Another neat feature are the retracting mirrors which fold when you lock the car. Nothing is too much trouble for this car in its quest to make you feel totally relaxed behind the wheel. With masses of torque delivered via a 6 speed manual gearbox, the Freelanders 2.2 litre TD4 engine really does make driving long distances as relaxing as taking a bath. In keeping with the Land Rovers image as the ultimate luxury SUV there is barely a whisper from the Turbo-diesel engine as the revs rise and virtually no any noise intrusion to the cabin. As you would expect the ride quality is in a class of its own and whole car feels very smooth and refined.
One of the stand-out features on this car is Land Rovers superb terrain response system which allows you to adjust the cars 4 wheel drive system to best suit the terrain. Power comes courtesy of the 157 bhp TD4 turbo-diesel powerplant which also features in many Jaguar models - This is the only engine for this car if you want anything approaching decent fuel economy (we averaged 35 mpg on test ).
The Freelander 2 is the perfect size for a family and is also fairly easy to drive thanks to excellent visibility it is much easier to drive than you might expect. When you park, the door mirrors retract as you lock the car to ensure they don't get hit by passing traffic. Our Freelander has a total of 8 distance sensors on the front and rear bumpers which assist you with an audible beep when you negotiate tight spaces. The car is also fitted with cruise control, and rain sensitive wipers. So long as you can point it in the direction the sat-nav tells you, you will have no worries driving this car. You can connect your mobile phone via bluetooth to the cars audio system leaving you to relax in some of the most comfortable seats in the world, whilst the Land Rover soaks up the miles...

I had three: 07,10 and 13 followed by my current Discovery Sport. The Freelanders were practically trouble free, a faulty boot catch being the worst issue. The DS had a turbo failure, the replacement being the updated turbo fitted from 2018 onwards, but is now waiting for a new diesel particulate filter, at vast expense, plus it had to have both electric tailgate struts replaced. We've been waiting for the DPF since January 26th. I don't think the DS is built as well as the FL2. I looked at a DS last week which has the 2.2 engine in it as opposed to the Ingenium in the DS, as it is supposed to be the more reliable engine. I decided not to go for it but was very tempted. If I found a low mileage FL2 in great order I'd be very tempted to go back to it rather than having a newer DS. Trying to find a newer DS with 5 seats and a full size spare wheel is challenging, why do so many people buy 7 seats cars? Good review, I really liked the FL2s I had before, but I also like the DS, I wish it was a bit less trouble!
