    Even for 2.7k, this is a lot of car. You have the brilliant Land Rover Terrain Response System and very good equipment being the HSE. To be fair, this Land Rover is more capable and intriguing than probably 90% of the crossovers/small SUVs that are available nowadays. Have fun with it!

    TD4_e just means it's an early stop/start vehicle before it became standard. The 2WD vehicles came later and were badged eD4, just to confuse things!

    Got off light ! first repair bill on mine was £2870 ( clutch and flywheel wrongly fitted took out the gearbox) three years later I have reached the dizzy heights of £7600 on repairs (you name it it has been replaced) still going into safe mode when passing by the swimming pool in a nearby village ( funny enough never anywhere else) now I have the joy of watching it turn to rust still the local garage does a mean weld job for MOT purposes It's become a personal thing between us now ! on the up side it can tow a ring of concrete blocks ( just over 1 Ton) across fields no problem if it wasn't for that I would dig a hole and bury it, and then of course buy the Honda I should have bought !.

Id replaced said part a week earlier, and the fault pointed to this part again. I was convinced it wasn't said part because it was new. You know whats next, it was. Love the channel, cheers, Hugo.

    The reason why the replacement pump failed is due to the steering rack seals breaking down causing the dirty fluid if the rack isnt changed the new pump will also fail very soon then eventually the rack itself will give up

    • @kaptinkeiff

      The issue itself is likely to be the filter in the reservoir, no doubt no one replaced the reservoir, and hence the dirty filter has starved the new pump...
      Issue across Mondeo platform cars which use it - Volvos too, I had the issue on a V70 Mk3 (P3), new reservoir instantly sorted it.

      Second this, same as the mondeo mk4. Seals break down in the steering rack, blocks the filter in the resiviour, then starves the pump of fluid. All 3 need replacing, or you'll be in the same boat before you know it.

Boot is a little on the small side is my only niggle.

    Matt, I have a 1928 Humber 9/28 for sale, just £10,000. Its in appalling condition but nothing that a good buff wouldn’t sort out, its impossible to drive safely , has no synchromesh on any gears, a cracked block, goes up to 50 mph downhill with the wind behind you, with an auto vac fuel delivery that gives up when you go up hills. The accelerator is where the brake should be and vice versa and in any case the brakes only work on the prop shaft so you need to operate the hand brake which work on the rod operated rear brake drums. Expect to stop in an emergency within 3 miles. The (aftermarket) indicators don’t work unless the magneto is on but if you leave the magneto on then the electronics (three wires) will burn out leaving you in a wooden inferno vehicle. What could possibly go wrong? But a good buffing and your £500 budget (plus new “high peak” number plates) will make everything wonderful. Look forward to your purchase (and video) shortly.

All the best, keep up the good work.

    Mate the power steering issues on these is generally the filter in the fluid reservoir. Change the reservoir and flush the system and it’ll be sound. No need to replace the pump. You’ll save a fortune.

  • @herridge819
    @herridge819 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    If the fluid in the power steering was as black as you said I think there may be a problem with failure of the power steering rack seals so you may well be having a new rack soon

  • @interceptor-ss8kb
    @interceptor-ss8kb 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Guarantee you need a new power steering rack these freelander 2s are renowned for it. You really should change all the pipes are they will partially clogged up. Don't be surprised if you have to replace the pump and reservoir again, as that's what happen to the pump from 5k ago it gets filthy from the rack which is the original problem. The black power steering fluid is actually burnt fluid

    I enjoyed that review. Excellent insight into buying a car. Cars are not as well maintained here in Ireland, roads are not as good, they cost way more, insurance is way too high, road tax is too high, maintenance cost is ridiculous which is why cars are not as well maintained and fuel costs are high. It appears we only exist to keep a car on the road. And the government tell you to watch out for scams?😮

    However, being a native of the Land Of My Fathers, I strongly suggest you invest in some sturdy, high quality wet weather gear. The reason I didn't relocate back to Wales when I had the chance was the persistent rain (I moved to the Waveney Valley in East Anglia, which is the driest area in the UK!).

    Great video Matt! I’ve had 3 of these over the years, and apart from the odd niggle and one rear differential bearing, never let me down. I’ve even gave my mrs my white 14 Dynamic, as we returned her awful defective hybrid captur (luckily leased) and now I can’t get her out of it. so much that, inspired by yourself, I recently picked up a black 2012 sd4 hse as a trade sale, and after the mother of all valets, some tidying up of the back bumper, and using my own handiwork to replace the Bluetooth and dab modules for less than £100, I’ve now got something comparable to our main car, that actually had excellent history including the belts, hidden under all that dirt. Wish I’d done my own before and after video 😂 hopefully you’ll get a good few years out of it once the power steering is sorted.

    It seems older JLR = higher repair cost. £1,300??? Still not not sorted? Sell or keep? How many such cars do you need? Bring the Berlingo to Wales. Sell the JLR thing and move on, skip the £113 diesel bills. Thanks for the video.

    Fair play... I got a freelander 2 the other day for £1700... its an S model, it has no sat nav, no air con, nothing, basic spec, the most impressive thing it has is 160k on the clock...

    Nice Freelander, had several, great cars. They don't like having unevenly worn tyres though, the new tyre will put strain on the transmission as the rolling circumference is different. Best to change the other 3 otherwise you will be looking at another diff and Haldex.

    It’s refreshing to see someone has looked after a nice car so well. Once you get the power steering you should have a really nice little motor for your new weekender in Wales.

I actually bought one after looking at your video the same model you now own..I take it off road to the theater etc I'm fitting a roof tent and a ostrich awning this year for touring... I service it myself every 5k these cars are extremely reliable and versatile! Just stay away from the automatic box!

    I've always fancied a Freelander 2 about after owning 2 Freelander Td4 mk1's and having numerous issues with them I can't imagine the MK2 been any better. They look half decent the MK2 but again the rear diffs are not a strong point on any Freelander ... Good content Matt. Much superior than the luxury french cars you've had on lately 😉

    Great idea for a shortish term project. Very good to have Welsh plates. We went on holiday there with English plates and every wing ended up scratched/keyed. Never been back, happy to spend money where it is wanted. Great video, Matt, good luck with the project, but rest assured, the house will cost you less to run than the JLR product.

    I’m only five minutes in on the video, but I love the way you said that tells me someone’s looked after it. Why are they getting rid of it? So cheap? I’m screaming at the TV right now because it probably needs for Tyres plus the power steering you’ve already mentioned, maybe a few other things that probably not with labour that’s probably not anywhere near maybe 2 1/2 grand and they’re probably run away and got rid of the car. I’m a certain percentage in bills to get it fixed to what I think the car is worth goodbye car
