I have a Girsan and a Springfield. The Springfield is prettier, but the Girsan is totally reliable. At almost 70, no one I ever knew a few years back talked about trigger reset. Now it seems everyone is obsessed with it. To me it’s not very relevant a outside of competition shooting. As a retired 25+ year cop, who now has hands that hurt from shooting my prior go to, 1911 45acp, I carry the Girsan. Steel frame 9mms are easy and gentle. A reliable combat 9mm, and 9mm ammo is a lot better than it once was too.

I just picked up my California-approved Girsan MC P35 two days ago. For the less well-informed, California has a "roster" of handguns approved by the state for sale, and it is a huge hurdle for manufacturers to get over, so our selection is very limited compared to other states. I am pleased that Girsan made the effort. They reduced the magazine capacity to ten rounds and added a loaded chamber indicator (which I like, actually.) I haven't even had time to clean it yet, but in field stripping it, I am impressed with the fit and finish. The barrel is mirror polished and there are no machine or tool marks inside the frame or slide, unlike my beloved FEG PJK-9HP Hi Power clone that I bought in the mid 1980s. The FEG is extremely accurate and has a lovely blue finish, but the sights and safety are too small for my taste. They appear to be more or less identical otherwise, except of course for the finish. The sights and safety on the Girsan are much nicer than the "true-to-original" ones on the FEG. I can't wait to try it out at the range,

I bought a brand new Hi-Power just before Browning discontinued them. Regarding the trigger, I knew going in the trigger wouldn't be 1911 comparable, but I shot it regardless. It never occurred to me to take a file or screwdriver to it, just shoot it. After over 2000 rounds the gun is so smooth & the trigger has a predictable reset. Again, not like a tuned 1911, but decent.
I get the impression from many gun reviews people obsess over the trigger for guns not designed for target competition. Just shoot it.

I bought the Girsan MC P35 and was happy that they followed the FN Mark 3 in production. I found the trigger to be very hard so I purchased the Cylinder & Slide Trigger Pull Reduction Spring Kit CS0025B. It was about $12. Now it shoots like a dream! All it needed was a new hammer spring and a new firing pin spring. Now it shoots as well as my FN Hi-power MK III. Because of the way the trigger engages the firing pin block and the sear there is no trigger reset in the traditional way we look at it as in the striker fired pistols. I have put 500 rounds through the Girsan P35 and not a single malfunction. It has become my favorite 9 mm handgun. I prefer it over my CZ 75BD which I'm thinking of selling.

If this is your first experience with a Hi Power type pistol the reason you have a difficult time sensing the trigger reset is due to the magazine safety. Of course it's up to you to remove it or not but that by itself would dramatically improve the trigger feel and performance. I own a Girsan Regent in stainless and would not hesitate to carry it.

The Girsans I'm seeing at the same gun store I bought I bought my SA 35 are going for $599.00. I have not had a single extractor problem and no failures of any kind with any ammo I've put through it. My brother just bought a Girsan, I look forward to shooting them side by side.

The Browning design doesn't lend itself well to handling +P ammo. It can batter the frame crossbar. Additionally, the barrel lug area is not reinforced as on some other manufactures so the lug can fracture at the barrel union with +P. However, it is a very well made gun and I own the exact same one you have. A very fun gun and great finish.

I'm a Hi-Power fanatic that's been buying, shooting and carrying them for 30 years. There are two issues with the pistol and perhaps a 3rd (which I'll get to). One is the dreaded mag disconnect (which anyone can fix on their kitchen table), but is still a silly aspect of the gun that should have been discarded years ago. Girsan did not fix that issue. The second issue is the matter of the steel frame. FN did a run of (rumor has it) 2000 with aluminum frames in the early 80s for European police agencies. A few of those have made it to the US as surplus and I have one, which I customized by removing the stupid mag disconnect, better sights and a "no-bite" hammer. THAT is the model FN, SA and Girsan should be offering! The aluminum is about the same weight as a Glock 17 but more slender in profile which makes it a great carry gun! As much as I love the traditional steel frame it's a damned boat anchor when carrying. If any of the three companies releasing Hi-Powers right now would release them with an aluminum frame I suspect they'd double or triple their sales because it then becomes a more viable carry gun. The third issue that many complain about is hammer bite. I don't have an issue with that because I don't 'choke up' on Hi-Powers (at least with the steel frames). You don't need to choke up on an all steel 9mm because the weight makes it perfectly controllable with a more casual low grip. I'm no expert but I can easily get .20 to .25 splits with a casual grip without choking up on the gun. With the lighter aluminum gun I do need that high grip to get respectable double taps thus I added the "no-bite" burr hammer ($29 on Midway). I LOVE it that the Hi-Power is back, but the first of these companies that offers the aluminum frame will reap the reward of big sales.

The dreaded magazine safety is still present in this one, I think. Get it to a smith, have him remove that and take a stone to a couple of parts and that trigger ought to improve immensely. I haven't been able to lay hands on one, but the Springfield addresses that---no mag safety. If they have successfully fixed their extractor probs, I'm gonna give one of those a try.

If in a gun store you you find a used Hi-Power made by a company called "FM" in Argentina. Most are not finished very well. But the firearms are a quality product. FM bought the FN manufacturing equipment. Plus the FN people set all the equipment up. I bought mine for $400.00 in the box with two mags. It shoots great and hasn't jammed yet.

I found a FM used in 1995. It was as new with the box and horrible finger groove wrap around grips. I paid $149.99 for it. I put a Cylinder and Slide thumb safety on it and took out the magazine safety and lost the grips. It has a great trigger and the sights were much better than my Browning HP. I sold that Browning for $325 and a FN 40 HP later. I've still got that FM! Kinda wish I kept the 40 S&W.

If the trigger reset is to long, the inner push bar that contacts the sear pin can be filed... just not the upper sear disengagement pin don't touch that one. "thus a short reset makes it a target pistol, cant sell it to someone else... safety concern if they cant actually hold onto it strong enough". other wise that is a 5 minuet set up adjustment including a stiffer sear spring to prevent bumping it on a 140-160 thou reset engagement = 1/2 inch or so trigger reset... 1/8 trigger reset would take off 30 to 40 thou off the engagement face of the sear push bar. off memory...there all different somehow but if to much is files off it wont drop the hammer... weld metal back onto the sear bar, its a 1.5x5mm bar... i have welded/built up 50 thou pins using a 3/32'' welding rod "E7014" that's hard to do for some rather make a whole new bar. "original parts"

Too bad you haven’t shot the SA-35. Have fed hundreds of rounds through mine with no issues. I honestly can’t make myself buy a firearm from a manufacturer that permanently emblazons “read safety manual” on the side of it. I feel like Im buying a pellet gun. When Girsan stops that, I might consider one. The Springfield Armory 35 is fantastic (looks and operates great) and got it at a gun shop for under $700. Also, SA did away with the mag disconnect and the trigger pull is smooth helping make the gun is one of the most accurate I own. The SA-35s are hard to find for a reason, but well worth the wait. Fantastic improved hi power out of the box with amazing fit and finish. Glad you’re happy with the Girsan, but I’ll take the Springfield without question. Once you have shot the SA, think you will agree.
