  • What foods have Choline? Choline is vital for the proper development and maintenance of the human brain and nervous system, and other systems. Choline deficiency is common and it is because you've been misled about the proper foods you should crave. You've been programmed to think the most choline-rich foods are gross, dangerous, and socially unacceptable.
    Here's the list of foods containing vital Choline, and the list of foods that are inadequate. Time to re-discover a proper human diet!

    Many years ago I lived in a *VEGAN* community in Colorado. The diet was called macrobiotics and I knew a couple of families who were raising their children on this vegan diet. In both families, the children were all extremely short. Yet, they'd been fed super high-quality vegan food while in the womb and in their early years. I have no doubt then that what Dr. Berry says is true -- lack of choline via animal food will result in stunted physical and perhaps cognitive development in children.

      It's a matter if they've both been lifelong vegans and if they are second generation vegans. Many health factors are affected by childhood conditions but also are inherited epigenetically. A child being raised vegan by parents who were vegan long before they were born is getting a double doozy. Like Pottenger's cats, after a few generations of continuous veganism, people probably would no longer be fertile enough to have children.

      @@KenDBerryMD Thank you, Dr. Berry. Yes, sir. I sure do. I’ll save you the background details as I don’t want to waste your time but there are several benefits of both Keto and Carnivore that played a direct role in my battle with advanced-stage breast cancer:
      With regard to Keto and with the exception of dairy as it was detrimental as I underwent a taxol-based chemotherapy treatment (albeit minimal, but more on that later if you wish to know), I found Keto to be not only satiating, satisfying but exactly what my body needed as my body underwent treatment. From toxin-laden saliva to zero gut motility to helping my kidneys slough the caustic stuff, Keto was helpful in protecting me with soft 💩, limited chemical burning on sensitive areas as I passed urine or other detrimental effects on mucus membranes, from eyes to lady parts.
      When chemo would alter my brain as well as my palate, I entertained “pity parties” and made conscious decisions to eat foods “off plan”….to my extreme detriment. The tumors in my breast, chest and armpit (lymph nodes) THROBBED painfully. It was horrible, but…pain is a great deterrent. I’d recognize what I was doing, how I was directly feeding those cancer cells with my dietary choices and dammit, I had to change. I’m a recovering food addict and I know that I was directly to blame for both my Type 2 Diabetes diagnosis AND my cancer diagnosis due to decades of cellular inflammation due to poor eating habits and a sedentary lifestyle.
      The best part? When my surgeon began crying while he read my pathology report as all 20+ tumors he’d removed during my DMX were “Dead; Scar Tissue”. He said he didn’t get to relay such a reading often. Keto helped me in many ways, sir and I believe it helped me save my life twice. I found Keto in June 2016 when I sought to reverse my Type 2 Diabetes diagnosis and then, when I was diagnosed with Stage 3, Class C HER2+ IDC with Metastases in my lymph nodes. I only received four (4) rounds of chemo out of six (6) prescribed as well as limited radiation…but there I go…too much information. ‘Sorry.
      With regard to Carnivore, I followed it strictly post DMX and was able to pleasantly shock the Wound Care Clinic Director who had been told I might require a Wound Vac. His response was both comical and joyous as he’d asked if he could take photos of my continuing Wound Care as he exited the examination room…with the Wound Vac in his hands. Carnivore helped me with:
      1.) speedy wound healing after my DMX, healing a seroma without any direct care other than saline gauze packing, a total foot reconstruction (with a possible reaction of later growing enough bone back to PUSH OUT one of the surgical screws), and wound healing from three separate surgeries to reconstruct breasts from Latissimus Dorsi muscle
      2.) easier pain management: I know that my consuming a meat-rich, colllagen-rich diet helped my mental health deal with the pain of concurrent surgeries, surgical drains and other issues dealing with healing as well as making 💩 much easier as I avoided the brunt of opioids to deaden the pain of healing wounds
      3.) I truly believe that staying Carnivore made my care easier for my husband and children
      4.) I was able to order proteins (limited on meal servings but all the eggs and bacon I wanted) while in the hospital following extensive reconstruction surgery

    I was vegan for 7 years...3 of them raw vegan. I felt AMAZING when I started vegan, but then started getting dizzy spells when I stood up. But I was super indoctrinated, so of course I tried being MORE vegan instead of quitting. I tried more organic, less grains, etc until I ended up raw vegan. Most of the time I was also doing high carb. Once again, when I started raw, I felt the best I’d ever felt in my life. If you have any info explaining why this happens, I’d love to see a video on it!! I’ve heard maybe it’s because you go from hypo to hyper thyroid? And to someone with hypo, hyper feels great? But again, I started having numerous health issues later and I crashed bad. Finally, I couldn’t find any other way to “do vegan better”, so I quit. I tried keto vegan first, cause I honestly couldn’t digest meat. Then one day I tried bone broth, and the feeling of satisfaction was SO amazing, that I knew animal products were the answer. I actually ended up trying liver at a restaurant (used to hate it) and it was amazing. I HAD to have liver every day for two weeks straight...and then I just didn’t. It even started tasting bad again. Like I corrected a deficiency and my body was telling me “ok, you’re good!” I did all kinds of research and found some carnivore people. Tried it once, but I made the mistake of joining FB groups on it, and it scared me away, cause I was seeing the same cult-like dogma I saw as a vegan. Telling me I needed to force myself to eat things or amounts that I didn’t want to or that made me feel ill. So I ended up back to a more organic version of SAD for years. That made me miserable too...and I honestly barely have a life right now, I’m in so much pain and so tired. But the carnivore info started showing up in my life again, and I started wishing I could do it. After finding your channel, I am trying again ☺️ I did keto for a month or so first, and now It’s been 4 days so far I’ve done carnivore. I don’t feel any better, but it’s also not making me feel worse like keto and carnivore did last time. I can probably digest things better now, but I also think it’s because I’m not listening to any dogma. I’m not following the “beef is the best” dogma, cause I have found that I really want pork steaks. Must be something in it I need more. I’m drinking coffee, cause the fatigue isn’t gone, and I’m adding butter and cream to it. I feel like I need dairy right now, so I found a really good raw sheep cheese I like instead of cheese made with A1 cows milk. I have lost 10 pounds, so that’s a plus. I feel like this will take a while, and I’m finally not panicky about doing another diet. Thanks for your info, Doc!! 🥰

    My mother used to cook beef brains and to the best of my recollection, this is her recipe. Soak the brains in cold water and wash off the blood. Heat a pot of water and when it is boiling, pour the water into a large bowl and then put the brains in the hot water so hot water completely covers them. Leave for maybe 15 minutes, and then peel off all the membranes from the brains and remove all the bloody parts. If it is hard to peel, it was not soaking in the hot water long enough. Chop a white onion and sauté the onion in a pan with oil. When the onion gets slightly translucent, add the beef brains and sauté some more, chopping the brains into smaller and smaller pieces, using the edge of the spatula. When the brains are completely cooked, add some eggs and scramble together. This is very rich and is not a complete meal, but more of an appetizer.

    Having had a pharmacist as an instructor in pharmacy technician classes, and he was a history student of "ancient" pharmacy practice, and married to a natural practitioner told us that in the past, even into the early 20 century, pharmacists were the prescribers of medicine.

I tried a plant based diet for a couple months due to health issues. I have never felt that weak in my entire life. My legs were jelly and I had to have a random woman help me push my dirt bike up a ramp because I simply could not do it anymore. I felt like such a loser since I was 34 years old at the time. I lost 25 pounds and everyone thought I was on meth. Now I'm on a mostly ketogenic diet and feel much better. My blood sugar is stable, I can go 18 hours without eating and feel absolutely fine. I eat at least 3 of my farm eggs everyday, loads of avocados, coconut oil, moderate fatty protein and lots of vegetables. It's great. I craved protein for the first couple of days but after that I just look forward to the meals I do eat and feel 100% satiated for unbelievably long periods of time. I just can't make myself eat liver. Not because of the fears of toxins but just because I can't stand the taste unless I spice it so much that I can't tell what it is. I do understand that it's a super food and I'm going to try to get used to it.

If I can find a good source of liver I'm going to try it. All the stuff at the stores near me isn't grassfed, meaning it'll have far less of the nutrients I'm after, so instead I've been buying dessicated liver pills, which are about as expensive as ordering real grassfed liver online and having it shipped to me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Dr. go by what they are taught in medical schools, like dealing with Thyroid issues and just doing TSH, which is not enough to see the whole picture. Also, taking the iodine out of the foods and putting in bromine flours or vegetable oils is really suicide to the consumer. I was reading about Choline the other day, and everyone needs to have half enough in their daily diet. What a shame. The American diet is such a mess, and nobody wants to work, exercise or do anything; and in the meantime, all the processed foods just make you hungry and more hungry. I don't understand why they don't understand why people are so obese in this country. When supersizing the movie, they talked about how we are the fattest nation and the stupidest. Through this study, the medical profession found out about the non-alcoholic fatty liver. Overall, a plant-based diet is not bad if only one combines with grass-fed meats and other nutritionally sound foods.

    Hi Dr. Berry, re: salt - everything I hear is how essential and important it is, but I’m not sure it’s the same for everyone. Carnivore since October 2019 and was just using salt (pink Himalayan) to taste but couldn’t get rid of constant lower leg swelling a.k.a “cankles” until I drastically cut back to the point of no salt at all. I was actually surprised that meat tasted really good without it to me. Only then when I went salt free did the lower leg edema start going away and no, I didn’t feel any lack in energy nor did I get any cramps of any kind. As a matter of fact, I only noticed cramps in my feet if my salt intake was too much, probably the amount you would consider too low. I’m thinking it’s possible that on a proper human diet, we may not need that much salt maybe none at all, and that the SAD is the reason for electrolyte imbalances??

    • @Drivenwithambition
      @Drivenwithambition 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One thing most doctors fail to understand or simply grasp is that salt , sodium chloride is in its inorganic form, sure we can eat it and it gets into our circulation but does it do the role as what plant or animal derived sodium does??? I bet not, inorganic minerals is a waste of money and often times build up into toxicity. Salt also directly affects the liver and kidneys in a negative way

    • @islandboy4445
      @islandboy4445 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello, person with chronic electrolyte imbalances here who has been healing my kidneys on my journey. Long story short, from everything I've read and experienced, it's definitely person to person, though your needs may change over time. Mine have. I used to have issues with chronic hypokalemia (low potassium), and also trouble holding on to my other electrolytes as well, and I had to supplement heavily. As time has gone on, I've stopped needing to take as much, and also got to the point where I realized that meat tasted much better to me without any salt, which tells me that my body is improving on holding onto minerals! It's also important to know that water consumption plays a huge role, and if you're hydrated, you won't require as much of any of them. But if you're dehydrated, or if you drink too much water, there will be imbalances. It's not commonly known, but over drinking water will flush out electrolytes, which you need to hold onto hydration. It's a really vicious cycle, tbh. That's a really long way to say, that you're right, you may not need as much salt. But it does fluctuate, and you may need more some time in the future. 😊
      Also I have to add to the second person that salt does not simply affect the liver and kidneys negatively. Quite the opposite. Issues arise when potassium and magnesium are low comparative to the salt intake. For example, salt doesn't cause high blood pressure, low potassium does. When the kidneys have a hard time regulating those minerals, electrolyte imbalances can occur. Now I'm not speaking to the toxicity part, as you're probably right about getting your sodium from certain sources. But on the whole, salt is very important, and most doctors actually don't advise different to what you're saying, and that's part of the problem. High salt almost always isn't the problem, low potassium is. Potassium and sodium help regulate each other, magnesium and potassium regulate each other, and to a lesser extent calcium and magnesium relate each other. An imbalances with any of those causes issues. I recommend a couple of videos from the youtube channel What I've Learned about salt. They site sources with links, and have been part of what's helped me in my so far successful quest to heal my kidneys!

      There are good videos on the role of salt[sodium chloride] as opposed to NA[sodium]. My understanding is that if you do not eat processed foods you must supplement with salt. There is a good reason why salt has played a primary role in the history of the human. You probably do not need to supplement with salt[sodium chloride] if you eat processed foods because processed foods are loaded with salt. Research the sodium potassium pump. If your potassium level is low your sodium level becomes a problem ie. high blood pressure. I eat zero processed foods, keto/carnivore and I still take potassium citrate powder 2 tablespoons plus 1 1/2 tablespoons Redmond salt per day. This works for me. Na and potassium is so important that the standard go to IV solution in the hospital setting includes Na and potassium in H20[water]. This is normal saline and 1/2 Normal saline[0.9% and 0.45% Saline]. These are known as 'maintenance IV solutions. Do not discount salt and potassium. Maybe you are potassium deficient.

      Same situation @ my local groc stores. Albertson's & Kroger. At least Kroger does have the calf liver frozen, but in really thin slices. Seems to be hidden in the back of a frozen case. Luckily my husband discovered a local butcher market in nearby city. About a 30min drive. Haven't yet, but I'm betting I could get fresh liver in thicker slices. That's my plan.

    When i was a kid a home on the farm mom would pressure cook up the heart and liver and brain from our beef we butchered and just add lots of onions and garlic and relish and herbs and the sandwich spread was delicious 😋😉
    NOTHING WENT TO WASTE
