      Sarah Evans that's interesting because we had a 14 Yr old golf and that gave up at 55,000 given the praise vw get is way too much. They don't go like astras however vauxhall are taken over by peugout and citroen which means vauxhall are no longer going to be the best

    I drive a 2001 Astra 1.6 SXi 5 door in black. We've had it for over four years now and all it has ever needed was a coil pack. I have been to various parts of the country in it and it has never missed a beat. It has never failed an MOT. On a long run, driving quite briskly, I still got 48mpg. Once on a long run when I drove sedately, I got about 60mpg. It handles pretty well and on UK country roads, gives confidence to drive enthusiastically. The interior isn't all that bad as the narrator makes out. It's a Vauxhall, meaning the interior is practical and functional and that's what I like. The heater is very effective and the various controls are ergonomically efficient. Remember, in a day I have driven 400 miles without any problems. The engine pulls well even in top gear (5th) at as low as 1000rpm without fuss. The car has now done over 100 000miles and still starts up in the coldest of weather without any problems. The gears are slick and effortless and the car accelerates very well. A good all round car and no wonder you still see so many, even earliest examples, on the road. A better car than Ford's Focus in my opinion. GM sold 3.8 million Astra mk4s, so it must be a good car, even if I say so myself. I have loaned the car to many friends and they always comment on how pleasant a drive it is. One of my friends keep nagging me to sell it to them, but I keep saying no. I like the mk4 Astra too much to sell it. In fact, it is one of the best cars I have ever driven.

    I had a Brand new astra 1.6 8v back in 2002, the basic expression model, it was absolutely spot on, surprisingly nippy, and easy to drive, yes the interior wasn't outstanding, but it done the job, kept that for 4 years then chopped it in for a second hand 52 plate 1.8 convertible, which was very nice, but a bit gutless with the extra weight..
    In 2010 I sold the convertible, and bought a 7 year old astra van 1.7 dti, with 43k on it, I loved it so much, 10 years later I still have it now done 133k but it's still going strong, Absolutely brilliant vehicle

      Wow!! Do they still have it now? If not, do you know if it's still alive today?
      The good thing with a car like that is that parts should be reasonably cheap to buy and there shouldn't be too much to go wrong, unlike the really expensive cars.

    With the right engine and spec (1.8, 2.0 or 2.2 16v) these were great little cars with a decent turn of pace and very poised handling.
    He was right about the interior though, it was dull as dishwater when the car was new, and the Focus made it look even more dreary by comparison. That said, they are well made. Plenty of this shape still on the road even 15+ years after they stopped making them.

    • @richard29415
      @richard29415 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that's what I can't understand. I thought Vauxhalls were meant to be cheapo, tacky cars that fell apart, but I sat in 2 of these mk4 Astras that were taxis and the interior felt like 90s Toyota interior quality!! They were also very comfortable to ride in, I think these are better to have than some German cars from the same era!
      I've actually never seen any negative or hateful comments about Astras like I see about Mercedes on TH-cam.

    00:04 Talking about Vauxhall shows Opel..Looks legit :P. Ok, I know they are the same vehicle but Opel is the German one, The one with the wheel on the LEFT. You'd think they'd show the British one Vauxhall.

      I'd have to disagree. 3DR Astra still looks "modern" to this day while you can spot that focus is 15 year old car miles away.
