Just an FYI for anyone watching this, Uncle Buck's turn signals won't cancel as he did not install the turn signal cam cancelation springs. The green cam that he installed is used to provide 12v continuity up to the horn, but also clicks the turn signal switch off automatically. If you don't install these springs you'll be taking apart the entire cam/lock plate again.

I must have done something right because it works and cancels itself. have a great week

@@unclebucksgarage7695I haven't had a spring in my 76 GMC k1500 for 20yrs. Clicks and cancels like a champ.

Uncle Buck, you are "The Man"!!!! I'm in the process of replacing the faulty blinker module and wiper/delay/bright/dim switch on my 87 Chevy R20. Your column is exactly like mine and I'm struggling getting the key switch back w/the little gear and sync'd with the rod mechanism. Now I know how to do it easily. This was extremely helpful. The differences for me, is I'm doing it still on the truck. But now I can get it done! This was awesome!!!!!👍👍👍

Same here with a 78 K20. Started with replacing the lock cylinder then dropped a bolt deep in the column so I tore it deeper apart, then little key gear ended up upside down in there and then struggled for a few hours trying to get it aligned and in doing so dropped the lock pin out of the column🤦‍♂️I’m trying to fix it all still in the truck. This breakdown is better than anything I’ve found on the internet! Thank you Buck

Used this assembly video to help me diagnose my problem. How would I go about connecting the rod that is linked to the ignition switch and key? Do I need to take it apart ? Thanks!

The ignition switch the blue part is the part that supplies the electric to the different parts of car fans radio etc. I have Chevy column in a 32 ford if I jiggle key power goes back on

Thanks for putting out very detailed informative videos uncle Buck. After hours of swearing and frustration I came across your video which helped me tremendously put my column back together from what started as a simple key switch swap and attempt to investigate why my steering wheel wouldn’t lock with key out. I couldn’t for the life of me get the gear that goes to the back of the key cylinder that engages the lock pin lined up with the rod that has all those teeth, I must’ve tried for 5 hours. Felt like a dummy when I saw your video and realized all I had to do was make sure the pin was out all the way, pull the gear out and line it up in the lock position 🤦🏻‍♂️ steering wheel locks now & key
switch is in it’s proper orientation. Thanks again

This kind of reapir is way too often overlooked. Small things like this make a project feel and drive so much better.

Hello, I get happy and excited to watch your videos and I’ve have learned a few tricks. I just want to ( very respectfully) make a little observation/request and it would be so helpful if you use a thin stick or laser light to point areas that clarify exactly what you are talking about. Again, thank you for all your hard work and God always bless you🙏

So at what point does the upper steering column bearing go into place. ? Is there a diagram of assembly for 72 Buick Electra?

The original column in my 66 c10 goes front, back and sideways for the manual trans it had, I am thinking it has low/high or something. Since I put in an automatic 700, do you recommend I change the column to a later model? I was thinking maybe I can stop the way the original column goes back and forth, so someone else doesnt get confused why it wont go into gear. I would like to keep the original wheel though.

What the heck goes into the round little cavity on the green horn piece? Mine is empty and the horn doesn’t blow unless I short it with a screwdriver.

So where can you get the gear for the ignition tumbler or a whole new kit. Mine seems to have stripped on my tilt wheel column shift 69 cutlass. The rod no longer moves with the key. So currently I have the ignition switch being activated with a screwdriver in the slot. Thanks.

Oh, I had no idea this kind had no spring clip on the side to hold the lock rod in place! Would be much easier to line the gear the the steering lock in place this way! I am having a problem getting that darn rod to line up properly with the spring and the darn gear...so I have to take it all apart again!:( Sheeesh! Anyway, great video! Love the details!!

@@unclebucksgarage7695 I found how to add the spring clip, most do NOT show how to place it! One end goes around the lock rod into the end grooved slot, the other end gets screwed onto the bottom of the column housing< BUT the part no one showed, is that the little neck curved part slips into the gear rack with the moon-shaped slot! When you do that, you are all set and the rod now locks the steering wheel when you turn off the key , and the gear springs back after you turn the key for start! The spring then is perfectly holding that little black gear in place!~ So there you go, for any who are trying to find a decent picture of how that darn thing sits inside your D link housing fittings:) Hope this helps someone else! I had a heck of a time finding the right information on that one!LOL Sheesh!
