Great video
I think the official torque spec is... "goodensnug". That is what I've always used. LOL
M55 small block Chevy
My sbc will have no problem running with ls next summer.
Carb ls!! Best both worlds
Wow this is crazy! I don't think I have ever seen a thermostat without the hole/jiggle pin. Next time I am at the parts shop I am going to look. Might be I live in Australia hmm
If it was me, since you had the rear cover off. I would have pulled the axels and replaced the axel bearings and seals! But that's just my opinion .
GREAT HOW TO VID!
Very cool Caddy. I got given a '76 Valiant sedan a few years back from the original owner, it was parked in the early '80's. We built it for time, distance, speed events; but it can be daily'd, run the "Trail of the Dragon," and used as a normal vehicle. Looks pretty stock, until you really look at it and then little hints pop out at you. Great car you have there, too-
NICE!!! THANKS FOR WATCHING!
So true self learned 38 now I can weld paint mechanics plumbing license sometimes there’s hard times and the government wants the split family unit type. Set an example for everyone older or younger cause there out to teach them their values and what they believe how they believe
WELL SAID BROTHER, I APPRECIATE THAT, THANKS FOR WATCHING!
They make reusable gaskets for the 14 bolt rear ends but I don't know if they make them for the 12 bolt rear ends.
THANKS FOR WATCHING!
Sbc if u want to swich to fuel injection all u have to do is holley sniper or sum other brand or what- knot and bam😂y put an ls in but its all about preference but their both so universal imo is what it is😅 they both gm😂
I APPRECIATE THAT, THANKS FOR WATCHING!
Mark 4..or gen 6 big block
YOU BETCHA
Fuel delivery is much further down the line… even a cam/heads upgrade doesn’t need a fuel system for a mild set-up.
I APPRECIATE THAT, THANKS FOR WATCHING!
I have both your right 💯
I APPRECIATE THAT, THANKS FOR WATCHING!
I just dropped 130 on a trans gauge 😅, but I wanted a mechanical one as I've eliminated 99% of the electronics. Building anything anymore is costing a fortune right now. I bet I've got over 7k in my sbc but it's nice as hell. I wanted something nice for myself for once in my life.
I CAN APPRECIATE THAT, THANKS FOR WATCHING!
just relaying a comment from a engine rebuilder based in the u.s southwest , his statement , you should never use a thermostat on a engine in hot climate states , look at the ford flathead V8 , those engines do not use thermostats , never have , and they ran just fine in cold climates areas
Wrong! Do your own research! The thermostat slows the coolant flow so the radiator can actually cool it.
THANKS FOR WATCHING!
I APPRECIATE THAT, THANKS FOR WATCHING!
@@StalinTheMan0fSteel where do you get " do your own research " from , i simply relayed a statement that a engine rebuilder situated in the U.S southwest stated , many years ago when i a had a jeep cj7 with the inline 6 engine , i did not use a thermostat in that engine , even in the hottest weather , the gauge never went above the halfway mark
@@davidrfowler6432 Maybe your engine/radiator setup could handle it. Many vehicles can't.
The only way you go to a lm or ls is if the block is aluminum. This is not even considering over bore turning crank or anything. Junkyard motor don't last long.383 or 406 way better.
I APPRECIATE THAT, THANKS FOR WATCHING!
I use brass drifts
THANKS FOR WATCHING!
well done.
I APPRECIATE THAT, THANKS FOR WATCHING!
Great content
I APPRECIATE THAT, THANKS FOR WATCHING!
I've been doing this for 30 years...but I use a #30 drill...pretty close to 1/8 inch and they're "free" where I work.
NICE!!! THANKS FOR WATCHING
I use a .125 Drill 12 and 6 o'clock
THANKS FOR WATCHING
I heard so much wrong with this in the first four and a half minutes, i stopped Watching. I was About to write a novel. Instead let me just share that, All I needed was motor amounts and they were fifty bucks. A brand new gutless 350tbi 180hp is 1,800. I Bought a 2004 2500HD for 2,500 with 250,000 miles. 50lb oil pressure. (The reason the Cylinder walls still look great on an old LS, Is not because more piston to wall Clarence, that my friend is Ridiculous. It's Material, That is easily Verified with Minimal research.) So for me, after Selling departs I didn't need, halling the rest to the scrap. Selling the weak 4l60e and oil Worn out block. I ended up with $ 750 in a 300hp 6.0 4l80e plus the beefy front diff and a 14 bolt full float rear with disk breaks. If I couldn't use those extra parts. I would have $100 in the motor and tranny. It's not expensive to have the vats removed from the computer. You can redo the Factory harness yourself or pay around $100-150 I paid $1,700 for holley terminator x max. Because I'm going to add a turbo in the Future and it's better to tune with. So.. Way better heads, Plus their aluminum, Almost twice the power stock Six bolt main caps. Is capable of supporting 1,000hp with stock crank. stock rods. Piston/with ring gap. Stock heads. Stock intake. Trying to do this with a small block would be like going to l a via omaha And leaving a trail of dollar bills to find your way back .
THANKS FOR WATCHING
Great teacher.
Thank you! 😃 Thanks for watching
The biggest problem with these torquer intakes is that the runners/ flow hit the head ports at a 45* angle and cause fuel condensation on the outer wall. Definitely OLD SCHOOL. 🙄Notice how modern stuff sweep in.
THANKS FOR WATCHING
Great tip
Glad it was helpful! THANKS FOR WATCHING
The LS engine is great in stock form with a single turbo, maybe a sloppy cam, can be a lot of fun and make great power, a sbc needs a bit more to make the same power as an LS, but once you have to replace internal parts to hold up to high HP, the small block chevy becomes much cheaper to build
THANKS FOR WATCHING
Uncle Buck, do you have any books that'd have the specs for SBC heads with casting #14102183? I bought a 86 Chevy Suburban for $100 bucks with supposedly a fairly new 350 crate engine with a TBI, Wiseco flat-top pistons, and a good 700R4 trans, according to what the previous owner said that now lives in Michigan, I presently have the trans in my 88 GMC 4X4, but I'm thinking those 183 heads are TBI swirlport heads and don't want to pull them unless they are the boat anchor swirlport heads. I'm gonna replace the cam with a Summit 1103 hyd flat tappet cam, install a dual plane intake with either a 750 CFM Quadrajet carb or 650 CFM Holley w/vac seconaries carb, HEI distributor, Headman mid-length headers, long tubes would hang down too low for where I take my truck to get to those fishing holes, and if the heads on the engine are the TBI swirlport heads, I'll replace them with whatever I can find that are better, I'd be satisfied with some 882's or about anything that isn't too expensive, as long as they aren't the boat anchor TBI heads.
I had read on a forum somewhere that the 183 heads are crate engine heads and they were the same as the cast iron L98 083, and the 217 heads, but I'm not sold on that, because I have a set of 193 & 191 heads and everything on the 183 heads outer appearance is identical.
YES THEY ARE
The L31 Vortec head is used from 1996 to 2000 on production engines and through current times on specific crate motors these end in 062 and 906
I just subscribed to your channel I lost my dad 12 years ago he was a master mechanic now I lost him 😢 I'm doing it all in my own I'm in the process of building a altered dragster reminds me alot of him
I AM SO SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS. HAVE AS GOOD A WEEKEND AS POSSIBLE
@unclebucksgarage7695 thank you 😎👍
Probably the biggest difference in comparison is how good are your fabrication skills. If doing stock late gen conversions can you build your own mounts, use factory ecm and harness, modify the original gas tank, fabricate your own exhaust system....
THANKS FOR WATCHING
SBLSC......Frankenstein builds 22R/20R- toyota B Series K Series-honda/acura ......hyundai/kia😂 Idk just 🐂💩'n
THANKS FOR WATCHING
WTF.... Why does that engine look SOOOOO tiny. I'm very very confused
LOL
Yeah. Ok. Go ahead and pop that radiator cap while the motor is hot, I dare you. Even with that hole you're going to take a very uncomfortable bath. Every thermostat I've ever installed already had a steam hole. You must be buying the cheapest Chinese parts available. Good luck on that "new build"..
Thanks for watching
Hey, I do really like your style. Keep it up buddy, but I am cracking up laughing at you using spark plug socket to tighten down the head bolts. Lol
whatever fits use it LOL. Thank for watching and have a great weekend
Uncle Buck, I just figured out that I could practically throw a rod and hit you from where I live in Leflore county about eleven miles south of Wister, OK, lol. Those Summit headers almost look like the Headman headers, except for that extra thick 1/4" mounting flange. Headman headers is all I ever used on every vehicle I ever installed headers on, including my 70 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 402ci Big Block w/4 spd Muncie and my Chevy/GMC 4X4 trucks. I'm in the process of building a stronger engine for my 88 GMC 4X4 truck, I'm presently stuck on finding a set of descent heads, (new or used), for a 350 engine w/hyd flat tappet cam that doesn't cost an arm & leg, that's better than the 193 TBI swirlport heads. I have two sets of the TBI swirlport heads but I want something that can actually breath more air for more power, I'd be happy with 350 to 425 HP in my build.
Hello Neighbor, without getting lucky like i did the only other option is the aftermarket for a good set of heads. wishing you all the best. Thanks for watching
I wanna know why you couldn’t put the base of the pump and a toaster oven. Then put the pick up tube in the freezer for 24 hours and they would’ve mate it together perfectly without putting it in a vice hammering them?
Might try that next time. Thanks for watching
Also I was wondering which intake manifold you are using? I don’t think the engine assembly video got that far. I look forward to your response.
the Edelbrock Torker that I found and cleaned up is going on that motor
I’m really enjoying your channel since I found it. It looks like it is growing pretty well! I also like it that you actually take the time to read and respond to the comments.
Thank you so much! I appreciate it very much
That was awesome. We'll done. I have to pass this on. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it! THANKS FOR WATCHING
I just brought back a 75 GMC Sierra grande 4x4 from Arkansas a week ago. Was a ranch truck in driving condition with a clean Arkansas title for not much $.
YES SIR
Its called "a wimp hole", for those not able to take a little radiator cap steam 😸
THANKS FOR WATCHING, I APPRECIATE IT.
Thanks
No problem
Called a Vented" thermostat. Cummins used them in their 855 truck engines for years.
This is nothing new.
THANKS FOR WATCHING
VERY GOOD ENGINE 4BOLT MAIN I WOULD HONE CYLINDERS AND RERING AND NEWOIL PUMP NEW RINGS BEARINGS VALVE JOB TIMING CHAIN NEW CAM AND LIFTERS DO IT RIGHT NOT HALF ASS, GOOD THINGS IN THE WRONG HANDS GET DESTROYED GET A REGULAR SMALL BLOCK TO F WITH
THANKS FOR WATCHING, I APPRECIATE IT.
Heck in my area just a shitty SBC 350 would be $800 before you started rebuilding it. Living in canada as a hotrod enthusiast is terrible.
THANKS FOR WATCHING, I APPRECIATE IT.
I stayed with sbc on my Square Burb, 355 10:1 ,Brodix heads, Eagle rotating assembly, comp roller, 700r4. Love it as my daily driver. Machine work was 1200.
Very nice! Thanks for watching. I appreciate it
I've needed this so bad 😅
Thanks for watching, I appreciate it.
The only way a LS swap on a budget is realistic and worth it ,is if you can find a complete, running donor truck thats either been wrecked or has title problems for 800-1,000$, that way you hage just abiut everything other than motor mounts, and then can sell odds and ends off the donor and possibly mske back all your money , but if you cant do all the work yourself, then theres no way id even begin to consider it
Thanks for watching, I appreciate it.
Had both old school because you run old school hot it still run and parts are way cheaper l.s looks like a alien in o.s keep 💯
Thanks for watching, I appreciate it.
I have a 72 chevelle without tilt and I’m about to replace that sector gear it should be the same right? And to get that gear out you just pulled it out with pliers?
Should be. Thanks for watching, I appreciate it.
