car is a 70 chevelle
column is a 68-72 floor shift NON TILT
video is just to give an idea on the proper steps to take it all the way apart
and all the parts that should be in the column
i have parts 1, 3, and 4 on here doing the whole column from start to finish
i also show putting it completely back together in 3 and 4
At 3:40, I noticed you mentioning the ground strap on the rag joint. I just replaced the steering box on my 1966 Caprice, and I couldn't understand why my horn didn't work anymore. Of course I replaced the rag joint with the Borgeson joint to match up with the new Borgeson box. Never noticed the ground strap on the old joint! DUH! I'll just attach a ground strap from the new bolts to the new rag joint. Voila! fixed!
Thanks for this. Super helpful rebuilding my Hornet's column last night. Also, as a funny aside, I'm seeing the pixies and modest mouse (and cat power) at a show near Portland in sept. Cheers.
Chris, thank you so much for going through the whole column someone decided to go in my 1981 Chevy truck and off set the way the key fully engaged with the locking mechanism so the key does not lock. Thank you again
Thanks for the tip, I was fighting with that a year ago and gave up. After watching this video and a little Kroil it popped right out with two hit's . Keep up with the videos the chevelle is looking good dude.

Just so you know those contacts in the the rag joint are the grounding provision for the horn.
You completely skipped taking off the turn signal cable and assembly between videos

I have a colom on my 75 K10 that has the same ignition set up if you could do a video on taking out the rack and gear selector that would get just awesome I can't find out anywhere online how to assemble it .....was previously broken that's why I dont know how it goes back together
The top of my steering shaft is flushed to the upper housing and I can’t put my steering wheel on. Is there a way to adjust the main shaft upward? The main shaft seem to have fallen downward toward the power steering box, and I need to move it back up so I can put my steering wheel back on.
yes it can pull out to where it needs to be
Thanks for the vid Chris. Do you have any videos showing the column removal or installation? I'm having an issue with my steering wheel. When sitting in the car, I can push the steering wheel in & out about 1/2in. When I check under the hood, intermediate shaft is sliding when the steering wheel is pushed in and out. Do you have any recommendations as to what "could" be the issue? Thanks for any input, and great video!
What is that part by the fire wall triangle piece, the curved piece of Steele shaped like a banana with the hole in it?

Took all the screws out and it still won't come off. Its a tilt column off a 69 chevelle
i have never worked on a tilt.. mine was stuck too..
