It's literally all an almost direct, scaled down metaphor for our actual history and how it accumulated to the modern day political situation, if you know your history and the current political landscape. How time and human behavior and history repeats itself and loops like a flat circle, or a spiral. The collapse of the Soviet Union, the west getting the better deal out of this and russia wanting the power it used to have, the rise of nationalism in response to all of this, etc. Being the most obvious vague notions of this. There are far more details, and symbolism in this story. Almost every event, battle, action, deal, important locations is symbolism or metaphor or historic reference getting across this general idea somehow. In a way your observation about these people reacting as if it was a real situation actual human beings are put into coming from an already existing place is pretty spot on.
Not to mention this game I feel, gets some inspiration and aesthetics from Russian writers and philosophers such as Dostoevsky. Also couldn't help make the connection with the book title "Notes From The Underground" by Dostoevsky as well.

@@pedrojuan8050 There are actually Neo-Nazi groups in Moscow like the Russian National Unity so the 4th Reich most likely established by far-right radical elements and other surviving Neo-Nazi groups. Originally it’s their hatred for non-russian/Slavs but overtime they changed it to hatred against humans with genetic defects caused by radiation.
The redline always had well equipped troops, but they rarely used them and never in suicidal mass charge attacks because they had less elite troops than the reich had. On the other hand it had a bigger population so could throw in inexperienced conscripts to soften up the reich and then send in the more well equipped troops if the charge did enough damage.
They have the equipment seeing as they were essentially the heirs to the military administration in most places... The also af a gigantic territory with lot´s of borders they need to controle, including surface accesses
Real reason for the suicidal mass charges is to lower the population therefore lower the need for food, as we know from history with communism starvation is always nearby, always. Less people less mouths to feed.
@@INSANESUICIDE Honestly wouldn’t surprise me if this was the case Kills 2 birds with one stone (even if the first bird rarely actually dies, at least the second one will)
@@INSANESUICIDE The food supply is a feeble thing in the entire metro since they only have two real sources of food, shrooms and pork. Both sides in the 35 red line - reich war admit to wanting their penal troops to die, whereas hansa, beacon of peace and capitalism that it is, simply kicks the poor out so none of their citizens are starving
I really liked the dichotomy between post-war and pre-war ideals, both in the books and games. Dmitry really did a good job of driving home that even after complete and utter devastation, humans still long for war.
My question, what happened to all the bodies of the civilians mass murdered by Hansa and the Red Line, there was a food shortage but when Artyom and Anna get to Vdnkh there's canned meat called "hash" (looking a little cannibalistic)
In the book I think it says they just burn them and also SPOILER it is also said in 2035 that the pig feed used was actually from the bodies of the dead from the Metro.
I’d like an open world metro game but in the metro. Perhaps after the events of exodus. Where you are free to explore each tunnel, go from station to station. Essentially being a mercenary and picking which factions to work with. Perhaps a second game would be leading the metro out of Moscow.
My most adored game ever. It's so atmospheric and rich with curiosity. I remember when I first played the game, my mind was filled with so many question about everything I see in the game. It was a great experience.
Lets get it. Super following if i could. Youre fullfilling my lore dreams for this game. My fav series ever. Finally lore videos. Thank you so much wisefish
was pretty satisfying to see the literal mountains of corpses at the end of the heavy squad mission or whatever it was called , but it also goes to show that if hans didnt arrive with his pepper grinder the litteral waves of troops would have overwhelmed the relatively few reich defenders
That level was a bit annoying to me because of how cool the end level to last light was, where it felt like literally everything the red line had was being thrown at d6, but then the heavy squad level is just a reskinned version and it shows them using that many troops to achieve literally nothing. The frontline in 2033 is basically just two sides shooting and occasionally doing probing attacks, a big stalemate forever
I love metro 2033 and last light, one of the few games where it actually tried to challenge me Also I see you like to do fallout and metro videos, have you ever considered to make s.t.a.l.k.e.r lore videos too? It's as fun as metro!

4K Quality is the future so why not embrace it now. I know some of the footage is lower quality but for the most part I do love that clean 4K footage lol
I want to play a sort of post-Exodus game where, while the core of the Metro is doing a sort of process of unification, the periferal stations sees new waves of attacks from mutants, also new Dark Ones attacks. I loved the atmosphere of the Spartan outpost in the church in surface, in the middle of the marshes. Maybe new combat units can be raised by some of those stations. VDNKh for example have the need for it. It just lacks the resources. But also the Commonwealth of Europa that had to face the Cult of the Great Worm is a great point from where to start a cool story against mutants and religious fanatics.
Honestly I always got an uneasy feeling going through the various Metro communities. I try to put myself in their shoes and it always feels like the entire place is on the brink of collapsing or being invaded, either by mutants or enemy factions. It's a very desolate feeling. The Metro universe is definitely one where you better not get comfortable wherever you are, because chances are you're gonna have to relocate very soon

got to love this extremely dark and very Russian historical commentary. Also, the idea of Russian Nazis that venerate Hitler seems like the most ludicrous thing I've ever heard and yet you have an entire society of sun-starved people going slowly insane down in the tunnels so who knows how that could affect people long term?
Eh. Fascism seems to infest every Western nation on the planet in one form or another. The idea of ones inherent personal "superiority" over another individual seems appealing, especially to disenfranchised individuals.
I like to think the conversation for the giant red-line / reich war went like this RL watcher : “ Hey wanna get together, have a couple drinks and discuss some stuff ? “ RE watcher : “ Yeah sure, sounds good “ * 3 bottles of shroom vodka later * RL watcher : “ O-o-ok so I have idea, there to m-m-many people right ? “ RE watcher : “ Right comrade, w-what about it blyat ?” RL watcher : “ So what if w-we start a m-m-massive war to lower it ? “ RE watcher : “ T-that idea is so f-f-f-f-fucking stupid I should send y-y-you to the concentration camp “ RL watcher : “ Y-yeah but you * burps * still wanna do it ? * RE watcher : “ Lmao sure “ * proceed’s to pass out drunk *
Yes in the games that’s true, but in the books there are no dark ones helping, they just fight the Reds off and win so I went with that to make it more about the factions.
@@WiseFish true this is a factions video. I really appreciate your work, I've been a fan of metro since exodus and it's now my favorite game series. I hope more people start making videos, this series deserves to be more mainstream

I really hope the Next METRO game takes us back to Moscow, all those unexplored stations and the uncertain future for it. To see how it lived on while Artyom managed to Escape
A funny what if thatd be incredibly akward is if when artyom tried to tell everyone the surface was the place to be, and everyone called him mad, a dark horse appeared. The reich, cut down by floods but receptive to the possibility of rebuilding, listens and goes. With all their remaining population equipment experts and strength left to them.
I wish metro was more sandbox, and you got to customize your character and have cosmetics. There is so much to offer in this game and I feel like it would be so much more fun (not saying it isnt awesome and fun as it is) if it had so much more freedom with the world and your character
By the way, someone is making a cool mod for Hoi4 about Metro. It's damn cool. Not yet complete, but the main factions have a focus tree that is awesome and really detailed. Also units are cool and good, you can have simple troops, rangers, chariots and armored cars or even rail tanks and rail panzer. They have improved also technologies and weapons. Amazing. There's no other words to call it. I just hope they add mutants/dark ones as main treat for all factions.
There is not another game series that is as engaging and immersive, I grew up playing the first two on the 360 then when the Xbox one came out and they remastered them I fell in love again with a long lost memory. Then the third one came out I can’t wait to play these on the series x whenever I can get ahold of one. I don’t think there will ever be a series that I love as much as metro I cannot wait for the fourth installment
wait only 50.000 people are left in the metros? The gameplay of the games and the sheer brutality makes you believe there has to be at least hundred of thousands if there are so many dead bodies.
Funniest thing ever, Red Line portrayed as evil communism (Author openly tells that), but author also described life on VDNH station (Artyom home) and that literally communism but its described as good. So there is 2 possibilities: - Author intentionaly left 2 variants to co-exist - Author dont know what communism are, and just threw "communism is evil" in the book
The reason the Reich has better soldiers and equipment is not only a historical innuedo Most of the pre-war Russian military was right or far right leaning and conservative, as most militaries in the world are, so they brought a lot of guns and skills to the metro, and banded together.
I love 2033 and last light but I’ve never finished Exodus. I experienced the Lighthouse glitch twice, instead of restarting the game again, I just dropped it and never played it again.
You don't have to restart the level or the game for that bug, reloading the save has the same effectiveness as reloading the level or the game because it is just a script hanging. Unless you were on Iron mode.
I just find funny that only 40.000 people survived in Moscow and I don’t think much children survive in metro, and still red line “launches suicidal attacks” and never run out man! This is just so absurd.

@@bardanmalla193 I don't really play alot of FPS besides Prey, Bioshock and Dishonored but had a feeling just wanted to get the story of the first two games before going to exodus which I hear is much larger scale game with a bigger world then previous game since it takes part mostly above the Metro's. Will do!
@@javierlandaverde4108 good luck , I hope you will have great time
I recommend the books or audio books, a damn good trilogy, honestly one of the best series I've read and I've read a few hundred books classic included, metro and it's philosophy and journey of life and growth is up there in the top three beyond any doubt. Don't miss out, they make the games better when you play them again afterwarda
Fourth reich: **it's established**
Jews, Polish and everyone who isn't one hundred percent russian: "Ah sh*t, here we go again"
Based
I don't read the books or pay much attention in the games. Why did they establish the fourth Reich in Moscow, the home of the enemy?
@@pedrojuan8050 There are a lot of Nazis in Moscow, actually.
@@carcotasu081 in real life?
@@INSANESUICIDE
Honestly wouldn’t surprise me if this was the case
Kills 2 birds with one stone (even if the first bird rarely actually dies, at least the second one will)
@@INSANESUICIDE The food supply is a feeble thing in the entire metro since they only have two real sources of food, shrooms and pork. Both sides in the 35 red line - reich war admit to wanting their penal troops to die, whereas hansa, beacon of peace and capitalism that it is, simply kicks the poor out so none of their citizens are starving
Na comrade, that was the Brotherhood of Stalanium! Rangers who recovered experimental energy weapons and powered tank armor.
Metro 2033: Make it through black station killing everyone!
Me: DONE!
Metro 2033: Make is through black station without killing a single person!
Me: 😱
Good luck there haha I always have to kill, I’m terrible at stealth
@@WiseFish Indeed, cheers. It's one of the trophies/achievements to complete the station with both outcomes.
@@WiseFish The Librarian calling out at the end of the level always gets me
There are two ways u can do black station without killing anyone 1 ninja route actually not breaking stealh 2 speedrun just run
I really liked the dichotomy between post-war and pre-war ideals, both in the books and games. Dmitry really did a good job of driving home that even after complete and utter devastation, humans still long for war.
Yeah it’s really hard to take land when everyone can literally make multiple fortified chock points. Or just giant walls.
Or cave in the tunnel that is usually literally the only way in
Congrats on 20K.
Thank you my dude!!!
THANK YOU FOR MAKING THESE METRO VIDEOS! There’s not enough lore content on TH-cam and this is amazing!
Really enjoying these while replaying the game.
Damn I love the Metro Series
Both the Books and the Games
I'm hyped for more Metro Content, Comrade!
People like you keep interest for the game going.
Thank you
This was a great video man! There isn't enough Metro lore out there.
I’d like an open world metro game but in the metro. Perhaps after the events of exodus. Where you are free to explore each tunnel, go from station to station. Essentially being a mercenary and picking which factions to work with. Perhaps a second game would be leading the metro out of Moscow.
Was hoping for Hansa after the Exodus reveal. Ah well, always next time ;)
My most adored game ever. It's so atmospheric and rich with curiosity. I remember when I first played the game, my mind was filled with so many question about everything I see in the game. It was a great experience.
A deeper dive into the hidden watchers would be great to see
Enclave but russian lol.
And more manipulative than “purge the impure,” but yeah
Lets get it. Super following if i could. Youre fullfilling my lore dreams for this game. My fav series ever. Finally lore videos. Thank you so much wisefish
The algorithm is working and I appreciate you covering metro lore!
10:40 you can find Lenin in metro last light
Edit: on mision red square just before the Battle
was pretty satisfying to see the literal mountains of corpses at the end of the heavy squad mission or whatever it was called , but it also goes to show that if hans didnt arrive with his pepper grinder the litteral waves of troops would have overwhelmed the relatively few reich defenders
I love metro 2033 and last light, one of the few games where it actually tried to challenge me
Also I see you like to do fallout and metro videos, have you ever considered to make s.t.a.l.k.e.r lore videos too? It's as fun as metro!
I’ve been asked a few times about stalker. I really wanna cover it but I wanna play through it first to see roughly what’s going on
The books and games are sheer brilliance and I thank you for easily summing up the important events of these stories that don't quite get a straightforward explanation in their narrative. Well done, keep it up
Pleasure my dude! Thank you for checking it out, these views help me want to keep exploring these games & books.
@@WiseFish even if you have read the books you must listen to them read by Rupert Degas. His skills in narration, accents and voices really puts you in the story better than you ever could yourself.
Such a high production quality. Keep it up man! I applaud you for your choice to render the vids in 4k instead of shitty 1080 like many large channels do.
4K Quality is the future so why not embrace it now. I know some of the footage is lower quality but for the most part I do love that clean 4K footage lol
Really good video, enjoyed it a lot. After playing the games it's so fun to hear other people talk about the games I love. :)
I just finished reading the metro books and appreciate you making these videos
CONGRATS ON 20K HOPEFULLY 100K SOON YOU MAKE AMAZING CONTENT
Thank you dude! Fingers crossed we get that play button soon :)
I recommend you to look at the Dishonored Series. The story isn't long and complex like Fallout or Halo. I think you would probably enjoy it.
I love Dishonoured. Would love to look at that at some point!
I am very pleased that foreigners are interested in the 2033 series of metro, and I, as a Russian person and a big fan of the 2033 series of books and games, I am happy with this.
Just found your channel and I’m loving it all man. New Subscriber here. Keep it up man! Look forward to seeing your channel grow.
Great job on the sponsorships and I’m watching all the ads in your videos bro. Can’t wait for the manscaper ad lol, or raycon

Awesome video, love you use both the games and books, can't wait to see the metro video, hope it covers the spartans or the pirates and pioneers from metro exodus
I'm very unused to seeing HUD elements and hit indicators in Metro games. Always cranked difficulty to hide them
Great video waited for this
> Survived nuclear holocaust
> Moved into metro to live
>Decides the best way to pass the time is to have another war because of differing political views.
Galaxy brains.
Here we go again...
Awsome!
I really wish we can get a game in the near future one where you can pick a faction and has more lore too each. When it comes to metro there is alot interesting lore that comes with this series
How the heck does this dude only have 20k subs lol- even with quality video after quality video.
Betcha by next year this dude'll have atleast 500k!
That would be incredible!
Keep these videos coming friend!
got to love this extremely dark and very Russian historical commentary.
The idea of ones inherent personal "superiority" over another individual seems appealing, especially to disenfranchised individuals.
western people venerate communism are even worse
I like to think the conversation for the giant red-line / reich war went like this
RL watcher : “ Hey wanna get together, have a couple drinks and discuss some stuff ? “
RE watcher : “ Yeah sure, sounds good “
* 3 bottles of shroom vodka later *
RL watcher : “ O-o-ok so I have idea, there to m-m-many people right ? “
RE watcher : “ Right comrade, w-what about it blyat ?”
RL watcher : “ So what if w-we start a m-m-massive war to lower it ? “
RE watcher : “ T-that idea is so f-f-f-f-fucking stupid I should send y-y-you to the concentration camp “
RL watcher : “ Y-yeah but you * burps * still wanna do it ? *
RE watcher : “ Lmao sure “
* proceed’s to pass out drunk *
Dude I had a ducking heart attack at 17:43 lol
Wait why?
@@WiseFish If you play enough Metro stealthily most of the time the detection sound is horrifying
hanza = hanseatic league
even in the stations, they have a giant portrait of Adam Smith as a counterpart to the portraits of Lenin that Red Line has
One mistake, in the games, the Canon ending is that the dark ones help win the battle of d6 and no explosives were detonated by the order
Finally someone is talking about Metro lore.
Damn never thought of the Moscow metro as one giant Vault Tec experiment that’s the craziest twist ever
Loving the vids man :)
A man doing a very good job
Can you please do videos covering every Metro factions upbringing and story? I love your lore videos 👍
The end of the third book was literally just a smack to the face, finding out everything was fake and they all tried to make out artyom was crazy how there is anyone out there still just to find out that he was right this whole time, poor guy, he did get a great ending though
I really hope the Next METRO game takes us back to Moscow, all those unexplored stations and the uncertain future for it. To see how it lived on while Artyom managed to Escape
No it should go to Alaska down to California
Haven't really played or read and Metro media, but where do the tall alien mutant guys fit in?
I love a good lore video like this.
We need S.T.A.L.K.E.R, it’s a good pick, it was also made by later metro devs
Looks like you did read the books, good job!
More Metro lore! Let's gooooo!
"Even the apocalypse didn't stop us from killing each other over ideology." - Artyom, 2023
I can’t wait for the 4th metro game
The Red Line and Fourth Reich take the phrase "war never changes" literally
I'm excited for these Metro lore videos, I don't see many of these on TH-cam
I wish metro was more sandbox, and you got to customize your character and have cosmetics. There is so much to offer in this game and I feel like it would be so much more fun (not saying it isnt awesome and fun as it is) if it had so much more freedom with the world and your character
I'd love a game where it's like 2055 and you're sent by a government on the surface to try and make contact with and evacuate the Metro.
Comrade did you mean...
The revolutionary war?
yey more vids lore, that i didnt know about my favorite game
A beautiful well done video
Great video m8
Great video 👍 Worth a sub
By the way, someone is making a cool mod for Hoi4 about Metro.
It's damn cool. Not yet complete, but the main factions have a focus tree that is awesome and really detailed.
Also units are cool and good, you can have simple troops, rangers, chariots and armored cars or even rail tanks and rail panzer.
They have improved also technologies and weapons. Amazing. There's no other words to call it.
I just hope they add mutants/dark ones as main treat for all factions.
Love it, metro has got great lore
Will you do a video on the Spartan Rangers?
I'd love to!
@@WiseFish awesome
Ive only been aware vaguely of these games - from what youve said I might of missed something very cool.

So there is 2 possibilities:
- Author intentionaly left 2 variants to co-exist
- Author dont know what communism are, and just threw "communism is evil" in the book
3rd one is the socialism is good and soviet regime (as red line references to) is bad af which i agree with
Thank you for the video! Metro lore is very interesting..
Well this was interesting to listen too
The reason the Reich has better soldiers and equipment is not only a historical innuedo
Most of the pre-war Russian military was right or far right leaning and conservative, as most militaries in the world are, so they brought a lot of guns and skills to the metro, and banded together.
I love 2033 and last light but I’ve never finished Exodus. I experienced the Lighthouse glitch twice, instead of restarting the game again, I just dropped it and never played it again.
That’s such a massive shame! I love Exodus but can totally understand you stopping cause of the bugs
happened to me too, luckily i bought it at 20 instead of full price on steam
You don't have to restart the level or the game for that bug, reloading the save has the same effectiveness as reloading the level or the game because it is just a script hanging. Unless you were on Iron mode.
What I would give for a dayz style online metro game
I just find funny that only 40.000 people survived in Moscow and I don’t think much children survive in metro, and still red line “launches suicidal attacks” and never run out man! This is just so absurd.
