I am a long time Arma player, and I love the concept of fighting that you've mentioned here. Myself and some friends have done a LOT of this in the past with multiplayer in the ArmA Series. I've got some videos on my channel from Takistan Life where we did this kind of stuff super frequently. It was always a blast being outnumbered and out gunned and yet causing so much chaos for the police and whatever blufor faction was in control. I think the best thing we ever did (and unfortunately I did not record it) was get the local civi population in the server on our side and managed to drive a truck full of makarovs and ammo to them to start a revolution. It was short lived, and ended as you'd expect, but man was it awesome. We've also taken the same tactics and such into other gamemodes. CTF on the RHS mod is perfect for this. I have many videos of this as well in the "Takistan News" series in which we just took our characters we played as on Takistan Life and brought it to the CTF scenario. It's full of us just goofing off but also ambush tactics and hit and run stuff. To see a more dedicated game with the right mechanics to something like this would be absolutely amazing. All of these games forget the political aspect (mostly because its not convenient to ask why people were fighting for their freedom and from who) communist gueillas have often fought with the support of the urban factory workers, and directly against the capiralists funded by the west, this is dramatically different to a fascist paramilitary that acts with the support of the CIA who acts at the behest of the ruling class against the workers

arma 3's antistasi is decent but certainly not the most realistic. outposts magically get reinforced when you go outside the loading zone, guerilla tactics are only useful during specific missions etc etc. there's a very good mod that is more dynamic, realistic and in which guerilla tactics work better (i.e. enemies need to actually drive trucks to resupply and there is a larger, more overarching command structure) called Vindicta. it's only in alpha and from what i've heard the save system is sometimes fucky, and it might be too hardcore for you but i 100% recommend at least checking it out
This one came up under the concept of communication. Many game's AI have minimal awareness of what each other are actually doing, but using barks you can create the illusion they're informing each other of important developments combined with multiple actors choosing the same option in the FSM at the same time so they create smaller groups. The telltale sign of a behavior tree with actual awareness is if another actor shows uo to fill in the job of one you just killed. Spec Ops has *insanely* good barks, just constant shouting over the gunfire and sometimes each other. They even progress throughout the campaign as the situation becomes more dire. A great example of barks actually informing the player of inter-unit awareness is MGSV
I'd also wager is the actual want for these kinds of games. Not every player agrees with the actual want for the style of game. This kinda gameplay is niche in of itself. Its fun, don't get me wrong, but it's not my main go to most of the time either. (This coming from someone who almost 100%'d Farcry 5 and loved every moment of it cuz reasons). The zomboid stuff at the end, from experience, is one of those really gets into it kinda games when you give the players enough freedom. I've seen PVP maps where there's always at least 3 people playing villain, and exist to cause as much trouble and the tactics get very... very underhanded. I watched on guy spend a week looking at one screenshot and a map, studying trees and grass patterns in a screenshot to find a hidden base just to burn it. Edit: Just because I can go more into it. Zomboid legit being my "we can do whatever we want game" but always with the fear of zombies has legit lead to some really crazy stories, gameplay ideas, long lists of mods and different experiences that I can never stop recommending it. Have fun, make a big server, go for it. Right now I'm in a Signalis based one that's more casual survival compared to hardcore. Let's us see how crazy things get when people actually build up. we're at the point of politics now with factions and work set up that I now have to watch what kills I make to make sure I don't have a molotov hit me in my sleep
Freedom fighters, when you get down to it, is quite the tactical game. Command is pretty basic (but effective), but aside from that, it's the larger scale tactics that help with your strategy. If you want the helicopter gone for the entire op, or the duration of a mission, take out the helipad. But you need C4, so go to a level with an armory. Get the C4 from. That level, and come back to the helipad, blow it up, and the chopper can't bother you no more. More tactical shooters should probably invest in more macro tactics like this.
Far Cry 2 is the best Far Cry game made. Far Cry 2 is the best Ubisoft game made, one of the few good ones. Far Cy 2 is just amazing. I highly recommend playing the game, especially with the realism+ redux mod.
Look up Mao Zedong's military doctrine: Three Rules of Discipline and Eight Points for Attention. Every successful _______ movement has conducted its struggle either by adhering to this exact framework or a similar version of it.
What's happening in the Far Cry franchise is what happens when developers listen to the "I don't like politics in games" crowd. A game can be fun and engaging and still talk or allude to real-world issues
Complete disagree. I think the type of politics that those types of people are complaining about are more present in Far Cry 6 than in any other far cry. The game literally stops mid-mission to call America racist despite nothing in the plot having anything to do with America whatsoever
0:52 what's the bgm you used here? I swear I've heard it long ago yet I cannot remember for the life of me anything other than it being game soundtrack?
There is an arma 3 mod which is even better than antistasi: its vindicta. While very unfortunately its a dead project und unstable in the late game, it still has better features und systems than antistasi. Most importently it has actual usable stealth and the enemy has a limetet pool of manpower an resources. In antistasi they just throw 20 helicopters at you...
I disagree with Far Cry 5 being a cop-out to avoid politics. They are pretty overt references to groups that exist in real life not to mention the fact that they are fanactically devoted to the largest world religion (also they were right as well you're more like a counter-revolutionary in that game). I do think they should have done more to make them sympathetic; like he talks about losing his child and then being chosen to save humanity. Despite this the cult blinds people, tortures and kills pointlessly and makes zombies to remind you you're the good guy. Anyway my point is I don't think the idea behind Far Cry 5 is flawed I just feel that they didn't comnit.
That's kind of my point. The "references to real groups" are all bad guys. The "keep your rifle by your side" stuff is all said by the bad guys, despite the gameplay clearly putting you on the insurgent side of the tactics, you have to be framed as a state actor to justify your actions in the meta
@@TheButterAnvil yeah don't get me wrong I get your main point (a very good point and a good video we should force some producers to watch). All I mean is that fighting against a Montana militia style cult is far more interesting a concept than fighting a tyrannical US government so I don't think it was a political choice. Also I don't usually watch video essays but this one captivated me so much I almost forgot to feed my dog so thanks!
Not sure what half the video is about. Sounds to me like you are bashing AAA but fail to understand another side to gaming: bloodlust. It's just fun to go on a rambo spree. I enjoyed FarCry 6 more than any other Far Cry because my enemy was relentless, brutal, stronger and as bloodthirsty as i was. You completely fail to understand the arcade side of gaming, it's not always about being accurate and depicting a precise picture of what things should be like. The only thing i can agree on is AAA usually fails at least in some categories if not all of them most of the time.
Project Reality has a game mode called Insurgency that came up during the research phase, but didn't make the cut. The location of the objectives is defined by the insurgent players and hidden from the counterinsurgents, so you can get creative with OPSEC by staging ambushes at expected investigation areas or concentrating players where the objective isn't as a red herring. There's a civilian spy class they lose tickets for killing, there's VBIEDs, and it's based on real world GWOT locations like Fallujah

Far cry 2, ahhhhhh the memories. I liked building my own multiplayer maps on that game too!
Ahhhh Far Cry 2
insurgency 2014 in thumbnail :]
Yeah FC6 becomes kinda laughable imo if you know any bit about how much it sucks to be a guerillia fighter lol.
23:44 "what if you doodoo it" hehe

I love your content its so well made
Why didn't you mention Freedomfighters? It perfected the formula but it was never picked up again.
I need to play that one. Criterion made that right?

Freedom fighters, when you get down to it, is quite the tactical game. Command is pretty basic (but effective), but aside from that, it's the larger scale tactics that help with your strategy.
If you want the helicopter gone for the entire op, or the duration of a mission, take out the helipad. But you need C4, so go to a level with an armory. Get the C4 from. That level, and come back to the helipad, blow it up, and the chopper can't bother you no more.
More tactical shooters should probably invest in more macro tactics like this.
It's not a gorrila it's GER-ila!
🦍
Far Cry 6 would've been a better game if they made being the whole guerilla thing less fun than it is and make it grittier than it is.

Far Cry 2 is the best Far Cry game made. Far Cry 2 is the best Ubisoft game made, one of the few good ones. Far Cy 2 is just amazing.
I highly recommend playing the game, especially with the realism+ redux mod.
I dont see that ark video or that zomboid civilization video in the description
Looks like it's there now. "Using Guerilla Warfare to Fight the Biggest Tribe"
Subbed. This is an awesome video. Hope you blow up, i am looking at your vids and they are cool too.
Arma 3 is the closest AAA game to play as a terrorist.
Can Boiling Point Road to Hell be considered as an insurgency game?
Look up Mao Zedong's military doctrine: Three Rules of Discipline and Eight Points for Attention.
Every successful _______ movement has conducted its struggle either by adhering to this exact framework or a similar version of it.
What's happening in the Far Cry franchise is what happens when developers listen to the "I don't like politics in games" crowd. A game can be fun and engaging and still talk or allude to real-world issues
Complete disagree. I think the type of politics that those types of people are complaining about are more present in Far Cry 6 than in any other far cry. The game literally stops mid-mission to call America racist despite nothing in the plot having anything to do with America whatsoever
as the number one and only homefront: the revolution fan. thank you for mentioning that stupid game its peak
0:52 what's the bgm you used here? I swear I've heard it long ago yet I cannot remember for the life of me anything other than it being game soundtrack?
It's a track from yt creator music
@@TheButterAnvil could you tell me the name or ID?
22:09 Don’t be posting no traps micah
How did I not make that connection 😭
22:50 i guess its because they wanted to sell the game in china, so the swap the names a bit
There is an arma 3 mod which is even better than antistasi: its vindicta. While very unfortunately its a dead project und unstable in the late game, it still has better features und systems than antistasi. Most importently it has actual usable stealth and the enemy has a limetet pool of manpower an resources. In antistasi they just throw 20 helicopters at you...

something something politics something
Did we REALLY have to include AI slop?
???
Not to say they didn't do anything cool with the concept they did come up with. Far Cry 5 has interesting villains at the very least

2:29 you think that's why we left afghanistan? all this knowledge but you dont know we left prematurely for no reason?

God, I've wanted a real asymmetric experience that's NOT ARMA. Broken ass game. I know Squad tried but... c'mon.
