Is the moonroof slide manual? I noticed the handle. Or is this because this is a pre-production model?
@@sikco the shade is manual sliding, yes
I think given the cost of it for how bland the interior seems I might be inclined to go for the land cruiser, the other product appears to have a better dash layout and more color choices... gotta see them in person tho.
I’ve looked at both, the Defender feels bigger inside but other than that the GX looks better, feels better (obviously) I couldn’t drive the GX but I’m fairly certain it will drive great
You said the load floor wasn't flat because you only folded the top of the seats down. Doesn't the 2nd row also lift up and fold forward against the 1st row seats, leaving a mostly flat load floor?
Lexus GX is always the answer. That said, the Defender market is a separate market. The appeal of Japanese reliability will either be paramount to a buyer or it will be completely irrelevant. Reliable 4x4 is the selling point here 😃
good analysis of the difference between lexus and LR buyers. LR buyers are alot more driven on the emotions of the vehicle. The character of the interior of the defender and the history of the nameplate carries alot more weight than the GX. It is very well possible land rover buyers/owners view this as an asian knockoff of a legend.
Well said. And if you step up to the LX - the same statement applies. Currently own a '14 LX and I'd be interested to drive the new LX600.
@@esteban75lover23 LR can have a V8
I like that the GX (LC Prado for the rest of the world) is a tough, proven performer in the African bush and Middle Eastern deserts. Ubiquitous, and repair parts are therefore ubiquitous and you don't get skinned too bad on the price for them. (2015 Lux here who loves my V8).
@@artureff3046but it’s worse off-road which is kind of the whole selling point of the two vehicles
This is my only Lexus off-road vehicle to buy.
The problem that everyone tends to forget is that Land Rover's Terrain Response System has an off-road programme that is second to none, even without a differential lock. Even if Land Rover is at the bottom of the league when it comes to durability, they can do off-road.
Thanks for the review guys! Long time subscriber here. You guys are killing it and your hard work is greatly appreciated!!
Thank you very much, friend! 😁
The 12v port (when not in use) is where you can place your phone upright so it’s in front of you, hence the rubber vertical lines.
Thanks guys for video , love what Lexus did , have 2014 gx460 , love it
Having own a 97 LX450, old school... will definitely appreciate the all new 550!
finally Lexus nailed the exterior design.
Unfortunately not the interior. Too much plastic, looks cheap compared to its competitors
@@kimnewcomprobably a way to make you upgrade to the luxury version.
BUT THE INTERIOR IS OOZING CHEAPNESS AND BLAND DESIGN
@@andresmattos7541 I was never a fan of Lexus interior ever so I get it.
…but not the interior design features!
I have never been a fan of Lexus' grill but this particular one is so well executed, elegant but rugged at the same time. Hopefully they stick to this design language for future models
Great review thanks !!!!
Great review! Lexus did a fantastic job with the new GX can’t wait to see them out on the road
Thanks!
It’s very nice! I can’t wait for part 2
Amazing video guys.
Very nice GX! Just wish it had the 2400 watt inverter that will come standard with the upcoming Land Cruiser.
6:47 zooming in the door sticker for an awesome surprise; a payload capacity of 1545lbs is going to be epic for an overland build!
Technically, you guys could have measured cargo capacity with the second row seats tumbled forward
Or just looked in the spec sheet
There is no bezel or trim around the gauge cluster. Which looks very strange. It looks like the gauges was slapped on at the last minute and does not seperate the rest of the dash from the gauges. Also the dash trim goes snug into the gauges, which is asymmetric, which drives me nuts when i am driving it.
Great video of the all new Lexus GX!! Great job Drew & Mason!!
Thanks so much!
This is the nicest truck. 1. This 2. cyber truck (too many unknowns and potential quality and usability issues). 3. New Porsche Cayenne
Such a nice suv. Have owned my lx 470 for a couple years and looking for an upgrade.
The two tone trim is available on the overtrail and overtrail+ not just the latter.
Great video friends! Been following your channel for sometime now. Enjoy your contents. As for the vehicle, while I love Toyota products these prices are really getting more scarier each time. We all know how dealerships are going to play this out they’ll end up adding another at least $5K if not more to the MSRP for “market adjustment” and push the price closer to six figures if not beyond that. Not sure how long this can continue… either the feds or the manufacturers really need to take some action and make these prices somewhat affordable for average people. Not everyone is a millionaire or lives with their parents and not worry about paying bills to afford these prices. This is outrageous.
Thank you!
Great review, have looked online since I put in an order and this is the most helpful video I have seen. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
I feel like the Ford Bronco has ushered in a new era of bringing back boxed SUVs and Trucks, and I am here for it! Granted, I realize this mirrors a lot of the Tundra, but I truly think the attention the Bronco received made a lot of other companies curious.
Great job
nice review gentlemen
Thanks for the review. When is the driving impression embargo gonna be lifted? :)
February 1st!
Is it just me or is there a lot of plastic where the digital gauge cluster is . I feel like they could have used a bigger screen or done what the competitors are doing and make a screen that connects to the infotainment system. It looks like a giant plastic housing from the early 2000s
Great video guys. Nice work on the cargo capacity and showing the folding second row. One question because my wife will want to know: Is the seat massage only on the driver side?
It should be on both front seats!
Great review. I think they did an incredible job in design. Also love the minimal usage of gloss black in the interior. Although they kept lots of physical buttons, I did expect Lexus to utilize more in the GX like the heat/cool seats, fan speed, etc.; should still have the ruggedness & tactility. Imagine trying to change fan speed on touch control while on a bumpy trail.
22’s look really weird on this, I think the overland trim is the way to go smaller wheels make this thing beefy
Pretty impressive vehicle from Lexus. I'd like to check it out for sure!
Fantastic review as per usual!😸
😁
Is the Lexus clock an option? I know it is a little detail but I do like the analog Lexus clock.
I just sold my 2021 4runner lunar gray trd pro for a 2024 night edition palisades because I am old and just lost my job so thought it was a practical decision. Palisade is a different level luxury “suv” but it is a sports car vs. my 4runner. That said, I miss that beast (which I had lifted, winched, and off-roading). I want this Lexus Gx. If not for anything else but to go n the trails and see if I can drive it better than the guy that ripped off his bumper and almost flipped his prior gen gx when my cousin even crushed it in his Colorado. I know they are capable…
Do the rear seats not fold down and then kick upright behind the front seats??
That's the one I want, it's a little behind schedule on release but it's worth the wait
Awesome. Aspiring to buy one. Fantastic Aesthetics. Great job Lexus!
However, it appears that the display for mapping is not significantly larger than the 2023, since it appears that part of the screen below that is attributable to climate / other functions.
Just got brand new 2023 GX,went for the 2023 because the V8 engine but this mew model looks very nice.
Exterior wise the GX550 looks better but interior looks cheap. Adding all the mechanical complication for 1 more mpg is ridiculous. Need to see the real world mpg. If I were leasing I’d take a look at the LR but buying I’d probably go with this.
Probably could have easily squeezed that extra MPG out of the V8 with just the updated transmission.
Exactly. I thought they should have retuned the V8 and given it DI in addition to the PI-would be great but tuning it to accept regular in lieu of premium fuel would have been very nice. Lower running costs in addition to long term reliability would have been a homerun for consumers but I guess if you can afford the truck you can afford the gas....
@@CJL36 Exactly !
Bro to answer your question YES and could you do one on the overtrail + because that is the one I want to get. Engineering backgground here great review. The Overtrail + is about $10,000 more but you also get more luxuries like heated seats. I care about off roading and luxury. I like the 17 Combined MPG and the twin turbo V6 will get you 350 HP. Plus the Ovetrail models get you 33" tires. The design is excellent they gave that boxy rugged shape but it looks modern. I like the grill it is not your typical Lexus grill. I like the compressed version over the other one.
Hi guys, Absolutely Awesome review, just wanna know if you get this new Lexus GX in Diesel too?
Thanks! In the U.S at least, we will not be having a diesel variant
They did a great job. I think the only things that aren’t for me are the light bar and the full digital center console. I prefer the separated lights, and the more button-filled console of the Land Cruiser.
Saw one for the first time today in the Earth color… very impressive looking
First of all, I love your videos. Could you do us a favor for part two. Could you compare the Overtrail to the Overtrail plus the specs and features the differences?
Thanks for the support! We will look at doing that once we get more time with the GX soon!
@@CarConfections I can’t wait for the review on the Overall Performance that is the one for me.
Wow this is so nice
Are the seats comfortable? My KIA Telluride front seat are awful, hard as a rock!
Very nice LX550, what is the fuel tank capacity?
Please measure the height of the cargo areas in your reviews guys. Otherwise great review. 🤘
This is going to sell very well, real legends know this. This car has the best reputation on the road period.
Will probably end up getting the Land Cruiser over this because of the hybrid option. I have a 4Runner and the MPG's are horrific.
I think he did say a hybrid was coming at some point for this
❤❤❤ lovely interior design, big space🎉 for everyone in the car❤❤
First Lexus SUV in ages that doesn't look like a mainstream brand with a fancy badge. It actually looks special.
Can the rear seats be removed for a full flat rear storage area?
I love it can’t wait to drive it home.
So, is the new land cruiser smaller than this? Or its equivalent?
Such a unique color❤would really consider owning it
Is the Metallic Clearasil a new color?
What is the width of the cargo area in inches between the wheel wells measured at the floor.
What is the height in inches of the lowest point in the hatch opening. ?
Defender is still sexier inside and outside. 😊
This is the Disco/Defender that actually doesn't need a tow truck as an accessory at point of purchase. I love thst Lexus kept it mostly straightforward without too much in the way gagetry that seems to dominate many offroad-focused vehicles these days.
Lexus absolutely nailed it with styling and that alone is going to bring in buyers that otherwise wouldn't be interested. I do wish they offered the Tundra's Hybridmax powertrain for not only the extra grunt, but the ability to creep along at low speeds without the engine in use, but I'm sure Toyota has their reason for not doing so since they're deeply invested in hybridized ICE powertrains.
I'm typically tough on Lexus because I feel they've strayed too far away from their winning formula of the 90s/early 2000s. But this vehicle is a homerun, no question.
You can thank Land Rover for the styling of this GX.
Excellent video ❤
Great info on the SUV and all around good review. Just for the love of God, don't do that close up back and forth when reviewing a center infotainment screen. Not enjoyable. Besides that, great stuff guys!
Thanks! I'll pass that along to Mason
I’m a little surprised they’re not including automatic load leveling with such a high tow rating.
This is it. Toyota finally got it right. Even better looking than it’s flagship LX model.
I maybe older but I love car and I love watching your channel too 😂
I like this car but I don’t like the screen that’s looks so square 😅
Im 18 myself and am not a fan of big screens either.
8:02 is there a way to turn off that annoying startup noise? Also I hate digital dashes, very hard to see in the sunlight. Too much reliability on touchscreen, would like more buttons like Land Cruiser. Miss the manual e-brake. Besides that those are the only complaints, the rest looks fantastic. The engine and Kdss alone makes this significantly better than Land Cruiser.
I thought the seats folded twice and stowed vertically to give more storage space. I swear another video I watched showed that 🤔.
Honestly, almost nobody is gonna cross shop these. Yes, they're both large off roady SUVs but that's about it. The Defender is mostly for rich people who like others to think they're doing active stuff on weekends. They're both luxury Overlanders but almost nobody is gonna trust the LR when they're out on the trail by themselves.
That brown... What do they call it? Skidmark? Mudslide? Smear? I can't stop thinking of baby diapers. Not a fan. This may be a tough off-roader and very capable, but it needs to be wrapped in some other color. The review though was well thought out, highlighted some really good features and updates, presented effectively.
This looks like the 80s series land cruiser/ lx450 IMO. Still looks great. Let's see about the reliability.
😂 its a Lexus, the Best reliability brand in the world!!!
@@Emmanuel0 I know the old one was bulletproof. Let's see how bulletproof this new one is. Acting like I don't know Lexus is reliable.
This is so beautiful definition of off-roading in luxury
Jesus this is what I want ❤️
I was ready to place an order for one of these, but they dont offer a 3rd row in thet trim and from what it sounds like it cant be retrofitted easily. As a father of four that is unfortunately a deal breaker. Going to buy a used LX570 and throw some portals on it instead for the same price.
There are plenty of 2023 GX vehicles available -get one and you will not regret it!
@@edmundcharles5278 I had a 2010 GX Premium that I modded already. 275/70R18 (33.5") Klever RTs. Roof rack, spare tire carrier etc. Did some weeklong overland trips to Big Bend State Park and some different areas of Colorado. Was an okay truck overall and got the job done.
I just personally think it felt cheap compared to my 2004 GX470 I kept when it was time to trade one of them in. The GX460s just feel more like a 4Runner to me like how the doors close, as well as the fit is and finish of the interior. Idk it's hard to articulate what I'm trying to say but they both felt different and I wasn't as impressed with the GX460.
I think those that buy G Wagons, Land Rover Defenders and vehicle like the GX550 want to looks rugged at the grocery store parking lot or at the campsite. (In the National Park) Funny, I have never seen any of those 4x4's on the many times I have spent in the very rugged back country areas in Africa, South America and New Zealand. Land Rovers are few and far between as well, why, they tell be they are not reliable, just a few old ones hanging on. The vehicle you see everywhere in very rugged, branch snapping, riverbed running, water crossing zones is Toyota Landcruiser.
If this whole TH-camr thing doesn't work out, you would totally corner that after-market metal speaker grill segment, Drew!🤣 The GX is sooo gorgeous and glad they are offering the twin turbo V6 vs "just" hybrids. Can't wait for the driving impressions!
Now, this is a proper old school, tough looking 4x4. I'd buy this over a defender because it's better built with bullet proof reliability.
You can thank Land Rover for the design of this GX 😂
My Defender’s been bulletproof for 50K miles. Most reliable first 50K with any car I’ve ever owned.
So glad this is coming from two of my favorite guys! ❤️
Thank you, friend!
I never in a lifetime thought I would say this but. Lexus figured out something that people like me who still drive his 2006 Range Rover Sport; its all about the box design.
gorgeous vehicle
My friend's Defenders have not been having problems at all, and it is a much better design visually.
let the miles pile on
I am impressed by this GX, but it does feel 4x4ish!, so for that reason the Toyota version maybe the ticket for those that are going to take it on the real trails. Great job on the review !
Metal skid-plate is very good thing!
Beautiful car. Still falls short aesthetically of my 110 :)
I really like the rims on this vehicle!!!
I just want to know who would spend that kind of money on that nice of a car and actually take it off-road!! 😵💫
Why does no one mention the HUGE hump on the second row floor? This essentially takes a large SUV and makes it a 4 seater. No other previous Land Cruiser or GX has ever had that. Even other hardcore off-roaders from other manufacturers don’t have center humps this big. Whats the deal?????
….this vehicle needs more design engineering!
Great video as always guys. I love the GX and would get the Luxury Plus. I like it more than the current LX. It has more luxury and more tech.
Very Nice Car 🤠
I'll wait a couple years when they offer Mark Levinson on the Premium+ trim and an iForce V6
Can you take the second row entirely out?
Love the new Lexus GX and especially the new interior design and it’s so nice and luxurious 😍🔥
cool but too expensive...raising prices like whoa!
Seems like it's not wide enough to be able to use as relaxing suv for longer drives? More like land Rover defender, which is tiring on long drives. Beautiful design finally tho
I want this… 83k for many, not all, upgrades is a hell of a dent in the pocketbook though.
Builder is live, I messed around a bit.. thing is super nice though. This… over save 25k and get a Trailhunter…
Decisions decisions..
If I am not mistaken, the Luxury trim levels have rear HVAC temperature controls, and outlets along the ceiling? Can someone confirm this? Among several other reasons the Luxury trim level prices exceed the Overtrail. Of course also the leather seating surfaces and darkening sunroof. However, the downside for those who would wish to off-road with a Luxury variant is the 22" wheels, not suited for serious off-roading. And of course as pointed out the Overtrail only has 2-row seating.
Actually both the Premium and Luxury trims get the extra climate zone in the back
Good to know. Thanks! Must be in conjunction with the 3rd-row seat.
Photos indicate Land Cruiser 250 will also have the rear ceiling vents. Huge miss in the GX550 Overtrail.
You should have measured after folding the rear seats forward.
Thank you Car Contraptions. This should be a big seller. Looks super nice! I'll guess hardly any of them will go off road.
They are not Car Contraptions. They are Car Considerations.
