    A simple clutch adjustment does not make one liable for a clutch failure. Your thought process is all wrong. If I adjust a clutch on a big truck that has a ton of miles on it, then the clutch fails a week later. I gonna tell you to pound sand. Rule of thumb..... The Clutch pedal should travel 1.5" freely before engaging the clutch.
    In fact it sounds to me that you have a self adjusting clutch that failed due to weakened pressure plate springs. Due to exposure to excessive heat.

  • @grantfritz6686
    @grantfritz6686 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    You do have a solo clutch and they can be "adjusted" or reset by loosening all the tranny housing bolts , sliding the tranny back a little and installing if I remember right 1" shims between tranny and flywheel housing and then tighten bolts and apply pedal a couple times I think to reset. Then remove all and bolt back up and and use pedal again to set up correctly. This is all depending on the fact that the clutch is still as clean as it was from the factory lol. It usually doesn't work correctly. If you do replace the clutch your best bet would be to go with and "easy pedal" or a regular clutch...do not install another solo as they are absolute junk.

    • @firstname6208
      @firstname6208 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Turn the engine till the indicator is at the bottom , have a buddy hold the clutch pedal down, take a small air hammer with a dull chisel tool, gently tap tap tap on the indicator to back it up towards the new side. Hold the indicator there and have your buddy release the clutch pedal. Start the engine, depress the pedal, it should self adjust. If the indicator gets with in 1" of worn it is probably toast. Do the slip test. If it doesn't stall the engine, it is definitely junk.

    The garage used a fork lift and the chain to move the truck into the service bay because it would not start. The mud flap probably got ripped off during the move. I learned a long time ago that it's better to have it towed home. You need a good lawyer to sue the garage. Your experience with them has been a horror story.

It’s a 07 has a mp7 in it and I’m having hell with it right now. It just falls on its face and the shutdown light comes on. U let off the gas pedal and light goes off. But it still has no go. Runs normal just losses all its power. It’s not bad at all to adjust a clutch. We run Ford 3/4 ton 4x4 and we pull ours trucks and we have pulled them loaded a few times with no big issue. Long as we could get traction the Ford had no issues at all.

You should have rented a Pro tote towing rig, used your brothers rig, or even rented a truck, and tow your own rig home. I see them all the time at auctions. They ran about $4,000 to buy one. If it has a wear indicator it's a solo clutch. You Can't Adjust Those.
    You have to have a solo with air assist, if you replace with a easy pedal manual adjust it will wear out faster because you won't be able to to tell it needs adjustments until it's slipping.

    • @SouthGeorgiaHotShot
      @SouthGeorgiaHotShot  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s what they kept calling it a solo clutch. So what do you think they did to mess it up?

    • @sanfordclayton3860
      @sanfordclayton3860 ปีที่แล้ว

      @SouthGeorgiaHotShot they probably had someone press the clutch pedal and someone got underneath and push the wear tab back to the new position, that mad the adjuster ring jam that's why it's slipping.
      You will need to replace it
      The shop screwed it up.

      @@scottberry5266 the one the shop orders could be a dud as well. All you do is call the company you bought them from. Most will overnight another part, the shop will have to seen the bad part back but they will charge you for this anyway.

      @@Thetruthalwayshurts : yup you are correct, but I’d rather buy a dud from someone I know than someone in Taiwan. At least the place you know you have a better chance of rectifying the problem right there. I don’t do repair shops that work out of the barn behind the house anymore either. Took me a while to find a reputable shop to deal with. They aren’t cheap but you get what you pay for.

      @@scottberry5266 I think is shady when a dealership is willing to sell you a reman part for $1200 more then what you can get a brand new for. Just because they know your stuck and away from home. It’s a scam most shop will pull unless like you say, you find a shop. But most OTR driver are at the mercy of whatever is close by and doesn’t have a month out wait.

    If the clutch has a wear indicator, I believe the solo is the only clutch with a indicator and it’s self adjusting. If you felt it needed adjusting and it is a solo? It actually does need a clutch.

    • @firstname6208
      @firstname6208 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some solo clutches get stuck from clutch dust. They can be reset to see if it starts self adjusting or if indeed it is wore slap out. You can always do the slip test. Right heel on the brake, right toe on the accelerator wide azz open, high gear, let the clutch out slowly. If the engine stalls, clutch still good.

    Let me take a shot at this situation. You are missing a mud flap on the drivers side of the truck, the same side that the clutch pedal is on, you with me so far? The mud flap was there and the clutch worked, you still with me? No mud flap, no clutch…. The mud flap covers the tires that are attached to the axle that is attached to the drive line that goes up through the transmission that is attached to the clutch, you still with me on this? The mud flap missing is allowing too much air to pass through the gap between the tires, no back pressure, nothing for the clutch resist against, you still with me? I saw the same thing back about 40 years ago, very rare set of circumstances, yea my brother in-law let his sisters husband work on it and it was never right again, sold the truck and never looked back. I think SWIFT bought it and they use it every day.
    Just a little humor to make your day a little lighter, stay safe and keep smiling, you will survive.

    Happened to us. We spent 21k at Freightliner. Picked up the truck and it broke down 78mi down the road. Freightliner told us that we could have it repaired at any Freightliner in the country. They wouldn't honor their repairs. Now it's a 30k repair and truck has been salvaged. Repair shops are full of it!!! Check us out roxzo trucking llc

    Fun with trucks. Once upon a time, I'm waiting to get loaded with frozen orange juice in Tampa , when I get the call to back in to load ,I start the truck push in the clutch and it goes Pop Snap and the clutch pedal is laying on the floor of the truck. OK so the truck would start and drive in gear , so I loaded up 44.000 lbs of OJ delivered in Toledo then drove to Traverse city in NW Michigan with the clutch pedal on the floor the whole way just short of 1500 miles .When I get to the boss's house he has another driver waiting to take the truck on another run , What do you mean it's got no clutch ? You drove here ! I and the other driver both quit on the spot . It was over 2 months before that truck moved from where I left it .

    I hope things turn around for you soon, as you've seem to have been cursed with much more then your share of hassle, and expenses. You shouldn't have to return the old starlink unless it was sent gratis solely as a replacement for a defective one. And just curious, but why do you have what appears to be a phone, face up, attached to the side of your chimney.?

    My younger brother is a Timber dealer.. bought a couple Mack CHU 613 Pinnacle series from them..
    They certainly sell you on this 500k mile warranty.. then its "oh, thats not covered".. brother had one over there a couple years ago.. i went to pick it up after a month.. made it back to I-75 before having to turn around and take it back..
    Havent had anything to do with them since

    The first generation of solo clutches were horrible due to the fact that clutch dust drops down in the adjusters teeth inside the clutch and acts as sandpaper and the problem with those clutches are nine out of 10 times when you go to adjust them which means you have to press down the clutch pedal and fully reset the clutch with the teeth all gummed up that clutch when it tries to reset gets stuck and then you have to replace the clutch because it will not reset itself what we would do is if it was under warranty we’ve replace it with a solo if it was a customer we would replace it with the old style manual adjust clutch

    Hope it works out cheap. I took my tractor into shop for some electrical gremlins. On drop off. “Your batteries are not good enough to test”. (Always started for me) $300 each. I had $150 each for them 5 miles away corporate account. “I will swap them, you were not going to work till tomorrow”. I left tractor. They drove it in shop. “You can’t work on batteries in our shop. Insurance” $200 hr to install batteries. PLUS they lost my perfectly useable batteries. (I got junk core for deposit) $4500 later I drove it 17 miles. DRT. While it had gremlins it functioned fine. More repairs plus 50% service call charge…
