You sure are good at backing up. I followed a semi one time 85 miles from one town to the next on icy roads & he went 35 mph the whole way. At one point a car passed us & when we went around the curve, that car was in the ditch. When the truck driver stopped for gas I got out & handed him a $20 bill & told him dinner was on me for him getting me safely to where I needed to go.
Wow that’s awesome story man you’re great for that. Some truckers are true professionals and some shouldn’t have a drivers license period. The snow and ice is definitely the most scary part of trucking. Thanks I try my best to back up safely without any issues or hitting anyone.
An old timer trucker told me back in the early 70’s when I was starting my trucking career that when you encounter a snowstorm and the snow is of the mostly powdery type to shut off your heater/defroster and roll down your windows for a bit to cool off your windshield to the outside air temperature and then when you do turn the heat back on keep it all going to the floor and leave your passenger window down about 2 inches. The snow will just blow around your windshield and the heat going to the floor will keep your feet and lower body warm. And if you must use your wipers do not use the washer. Even if you get salt spray on your windshield the snow flakes hitting it will clear some of the salt. I’ve trucked thru many a snowstorm and used this technique numerous times. Now a wet sticky snow is a different story. That’s when it’s better to keep the most heat on the windshield as possible
@@Retired88M there are a few different methods to use during snowstorms although this one sounds like it would work the best. I use whatever means necessary to do the job. Sometimes I'll use the washer fluid just to get the ice off the wipers. If that doesn't work I'll stop and do it myself. Nothing worse than wipers that don't work during snow.
@@thetexastrucker7934 back in the middle 90’s I drove for a company out of Ohio that issued me an early 90’s international tractor that had the wiper motors up in top of the windshield and it seemed like I had less of a chance of my wipers getting iced up due to when it hey were shut off they stopped at the top of the windshield. I wish all the truck manufacturers would do it this way. Also Kenworth is doing it right with theirs on the split windshield where they stop at the center of the windshield on their W900’s.
One other thing that may be of some benefit, when I was starting my truck driving career in the 70's and driving in the snow and ice here in Canada, I was a green and obviously a bit nervous so I asked a seasoned driver, how fast I should drive in the snowy conditions and I will never forget what he told me, he said, "pick a speed you're comfortable with and drive at that speed." During my near 40 year driving career that is exactly what I did, and touch wood, I never went off the road or was involved in a collision while driving in adverse conditions. Now, was it all skill, I don't think so, there were times when it was sh!t luck. I'm in my early 70's now and still follow the advise he gave me all those years ago when I'm driving my car. Hope this helps.

Ron dbl clutch again, clear all snow from lights etc while getting fuel, be careful braking, prevent slides don't hit the pumps. this is my first time on this. channel hope you have a safe trip(s) how about putting chains on ?
You can plug a hair dryer in and defrost windshield from the inside of the truck if it gets really bad. Clean the wiper blades with isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol)
I drive tour bus thought about upgrading to A but honestly not sure lol, keeping the visors down and also getting the aerosol ice off yellow Prestone spray is great for when you make stops and stuff
@@RunningOTR ran dedicated reefer account for a Walmart DC around that region with JB hunt..and that route was my shortest to go to..since..did frozen 3 types of temperature deliveries to the stores..was hectic!
I put a half a bottle of isopropyl alcohol in washer tank in my personal vehicles to make it better. The alcohol is what melts ice. The higher the percentage the more powerful it is. I definitely dilute it in rainex washer fluid so it is not harmful to paint. It seems to work better and clean better and it smells good. Plus it is a antifreeze for washer fluid
dbl clutch Ron, I've. not seen anything from you for a while--heard swift is closing down. i hope you are ok. take care continue driving safely. 6-2-24
Alcohol fluid be good for keeping your windshield clear I used that when I was driving trucks in England when it got cold I hope it helps you safe driving fella 🇬🇧🇺🇲👍
We're enjoying the video but wish you would put the GOPRO down on your dash instead of your hat or head. We'd love to see more open vision of the road instead of the visor and roof of the truck. 😊
You need new wipers. Your passenger side is barely touching. Blast the defrost and crack your window to cool down. Window will be clean. Also with the defrost blasting. You can reduce your wiper speed. No need to full send it.
I would turn the bunk heater on, open the curtains, and keep direct heat off of the windshield. That seemed to cut down on the wipers freezing up on my old International...
Good video but maybe invest in a dash mount for when your in the truck. You're tall enough that alot of the view is the top of your truck lol. Would be nice to see more out the window.

Nice video, put your camera in a better and steady place e.g. to show the speedometer, a small part of the bonnet including the front mirrors, and avoid too much speaking. I like to hear the noise of engine.
That kind of braking in uk is called cadence braking. Pedal on pedal off, don't let the wheels lock. Maximum braking efficiency is just before the wheels lock. Safe journeys, all my best MARK uk
May be if you put your wipers not running constantly instead in putting them on one of the intermittent control it may help or your truck heater is not projecting enough warmth on your front windshield.
Out of curiosity, what town is that gas station in the beginning in? The area looks a LOT like this area my navigation weirdly directed me down when I was going to Philadelphia in my car. Pretty sure I filled up there.

Now one time back in the late 90’s I was going south on the NY thruway in one heck of a snowstorm and decided that my load of stationary wasn’t in such a hurry that I couldn’t take my 8 hour break a couple hours early and wait the storm out. So I pulled into one of the service areas and found a spot behind a UPS set of thruway doubles that wasn’t to far from the restaurant. After having a bit of dinner I went back to the truck , got undressed and slipped between the sheets. The one mistake I made was leaving the air vent open about an inch above my pillow. Well I didn’t need my alarm to wake me ; I had an icicle dripping water on my pillow. Looked out my windshield and even with the engine running all night I had a foot of snow built up on the hood
Congrats driver we need more like you out there on the road maybe less traffic deaths don't ever loose your cautious attitude and keep the rubber on the road unlike swift and crst.
Us smaller cars follow the trucks like you during snow storms because ur truck is so heavy it creates these gaps on the road that gives the little cars and other trucks more traction
Awesome video, I just have a suggestion if possible: if your gopro is on your head, any chance to lower it a bit more? we can see a lot of the roof and not the view you're having up the road.
I actually have a cobra 200 just don’t use it because the company I was at they make me switch trucks every time I go home so it’s annoying to install it then have to peel it off but will definitely be using it at prime now for sure.

Ron dbl clutch again, clear all snow from lights etc while getting fuel, be careful braking, prevent slides don't hit the pumps. this is my first time on this. channel hope you have a safe trip(s) how about putting chains on ?
Thank you so much for the tips and watching I appreciate it! 🙏
You can plug a hair dryer in and defrost windshield from the inside of the truck if it gets really bad. Clean the wiper blades with isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol)
lol a hairdryer 😂 haha there is windshield deicer fluid.
I drive tour bus thought about upgrading to A but honestly not sure lol, keeping the visors down and also getting the aerosol ice off yellow Prestone spray is great for when you make stops and stuff
I appreciate it I’ll give it a go next winter coming up 😃 it’s fun to ride around the county and get paid 😀
I remember this truck stop is it on the route that links i80 and i81%?
Yes sir exactly 💯
@@RunningOTR ran dedicated reefer account for a Walmart DC around that region with JB hunt..and that route was my shortest to go to..since..did frozen 3 types of temperature deliveries to the stores..was hectic!
Be safe driver !!!! TrailerJack💪
Will do thank you 🙏
I put a half a bottle of isopropyl alcohol in washer tank in my personal vehicles to make it better. The alcohol is what melts ice. The higher the percentage the more powerful it is. I definitely dilute it in rainex washer fluid so it is not harmful to paint. It seems to work better and clean better and it smells good. Plus it is a antifreeze for washer fluid
Got it thank you so much for the tip 🤝 there is options for antifreeze deicer you can buy but I will give your method a try one day thank you again.
dbl clutch Ron, I've. not seen anything from you for a while--heard swift is closing down. i hope you are ok. take care continue driving safely. 6-2-24
Alcohol fluid be good for keeping your windshield clear I used that when I was driving trucks in England when it got cold I hope it helps you safe driving fella 🇬🇧🇺🇲👍
Hi thank you for the tips I appreciate your support from the UK cheers mate 🤝 🍻
Flip the visor down
helps to push the air back to keep to windshield
Yes I did they 2 days ago worked really well. Thanks for the information 🙏 😃
We're enjoying the video but wish you would put the GOPRO down on your dash instead of your hat or head. We'd love to see more open vision of the road instead of the visor and roof of the truck. 😊
Yeah that’s the only issue man I did some adjustments for better views after the fact. Will try soon again.
Dash cam is way too static. I've seen people having the camera around their neck, and it was fine. Well, not when reversing 😂
I think it was fine dude. Cool video
@@evanram6608 thank you 😃
@@evanram6608 thank you so much 🙏
You need new wipers. Your passenger side is barely touching. Blast the defrost and crack your window to cool down. Window will be clean. Also with the defrost blasting. You can reduce your wiper speed. No need to full send it.
Try putting your sun visors down all most to the windshield. It keeps the heat towards the windshield
Got than a lot will try it next time for sure thank you so much for the help and tips.
I would turn the bunk heater on, open the curtains, and keep direct heat off of the windshield. That seemed to cut down on the wipers freezing up on my old International...
Oh okay I’ll have to give that a try appreciate your tip and feedback thank you very much
They have experience driving those trucks in the snow
Good video but maybe invest in a dash mount for when your in the truck. You're tall enough that alot of the view is the top of your truck lol. Would be nice to see more out the window.
@@scubadude2858 got you boss thank you 💯 too damn tall even with seat low 🤦🏼♂️ 😂
A mixture of 2 parts isopropyl alcohol and 1 part water will melt ice instantly and help prevent ice build up
Such a nice country! be safe as always po
Salamat 🙏 😃
Enjoyed your video dude. )))
Thank you so much I’m glad you did wish I did superview on the camera before this video started I know it was kind of high 🤦🏼♂️ but I appreciate you watching and kind feedback 🤝
Where was this whse you picked up at? I tried finding it on google maps and even with all the info you had still couldnt find it. Not even thelittle dandy store you parked at. Looked like it was in the muncy, PA area.
@@thetexastrucker7934 yeah it was somewhere around muncy Pa area gamble and proctor I think it was so old I don’t remember lol hauled like 500 other load after that I remember most of the places I go too which is impressive but this one I don’t remember exactly sorry
Put your visors down and it will spread the heat to the sides of the windshield and melt the frozen areas
Got it appreciate the info will try in the next snow storm
Nice video, put your camera in a better and steady place e.g. to show the speedometer, a small part of the bonnet including the front mirrors, and avoid too much speaking. I like to hear the noise of engine.
Got it thank you so much will try different angles I’m just too damn tall even if I put the seat down it’s still too high 🤦🏼♂️
You might need a chest strap. But then we won’t see what you do. We can manage. You do what you can.
@@davelarson5672 I’m trying to record it in a super wide view hope this helps waiting on some feed back from viewers thanks
That kind of braking in uk is called cadence braking. Pedal on pedal off, don't let the wheels lock. Maximum braking efficiency is just before the wheels lock. Safe journeys, all my best

@@markrich6657 Thank you I appreciate it! We will visit UK 🇬🇧 this November 😃
Great parking skills 👌
Thanks 😁 🤝
i used to ride motorcycle in that type of snow for many years
Awesome drive 🚗 👏 right to the end 😅
Thank you sir much appreciated thank you for watching and feedback
May be if you put your wipers not running constantly instead in putting them on one of the intermittent control it may help or your truck heater is not projecting enough warmth on your front
windshield.
Yes sir I tired different methods recently it worked out with tips and tricks people told me to do.
Out of curiosity, what town is that gas station in the beginning in? The area looks a LOT like this area my navigation weirdly directed me down when I was going to Philadelphia in my car. Pretty sure I filled up there.
Hello thank you for watching it was in Mehoopany PA exact address is 4816 sr 87 mehoopany pa 18629
Wow! Are you sure you're a rookie? That was an excellent display of backing skills at the shipper in the beginning part of your video.
I mean I’m still new actually so I don’t call my self an expert like these guys who drove millions of miles and different type of weather conditions thanks for watching 🤝
Cleaning yah blades too
YOU DID VERY WELL!
Thank you I appreciate it brother 🤝
Thank you very much for watching and the information I’ll definitely use what you told me in the next upcoming winter 😀 🤝
Very good backing skills😁🛫
Thank you! 😃
COLD air on the windshield... if you instinctively use HOT air, the snow melts & freezes your wipers up like that
Thank you for the tip next winter I’ll try that method 🤝
Is there a Jiffy Lube for semi trucks?
@@Nitephall no but they have express bays for oil changes at truckstops
Congrats driver we need more like you out there on the road maybe less traffic deaths don't ever loose your cautious attitude and keep the rubber on the road unlike swift and crst.
Hey I appreciate it haha swift and crst 😂 I’ll always be cautions and safe thanks for watching and the support
You need to ditch the head mound for the camera when in truck!
I may have to do that I changed the view aspect in the recent upload hopefully it’s better thanks for watching.
Us smaller cars follow the trucks like you during snow storms because ur truck is so heavy it creates these gaps on the road that gives the little cars and other trucks more traction
@@theflashoflife8088 true it packs the snow down to the ground or splits it apart and you have better traction in your car 😀
Hey you got loaded at my job I work at that plant I knew exactly where u were when u were at the dandy
Yes sir 💯 thank you for watching 🙏
Your welcome 🙏 damn if u would have came at night I would have probably loaded you lol
The day cabs u were shitting they just go up and down the hill all day and night from plant to warehouse then back down
Be safe and good luck.
Will try always to keep safe thank you so much 🙏
See you are driving a new truck. The other one was white. I see you are a different company then prime
Awesome video, I just have a suggestion if possible: if your gopro is on your head, any chance to lower it a bit more? we can see a lot of the roof and not the view you're having up the road.
Yes sir I’m trying to make it better in fact I changed the aspect on the recent video hopefully it’s better now thanks for watching.
Do they give u manual trucks if u company driver I don't think I could drive a quiet automatic but some big companies only have autos
Yes they don’t have automatics but you can lease purchase one as long as you pay off and keep it you can order it with a manual
Nice ride 👌 👍
@@nitrofish1974 thank you 🤝
Man I drove through the hills of West Virginia last night, sketchy sketchy
Very sketchy which highway i81 or i64 or i77? I mean they are all sketchy too many hills and steal grades with hard turns
Put rubbing achol in with your wiper fluid and don't have your defrost heat on the windshield so your wiper don't ice up
Thank you sir for the tip just one bottle of rubbing alcohol will work?
Thank you sir for the tip just one bottle of rubbing alcohol will work?
Just put a little bit in the tank it want take the whole bottle
@ will do much appreciated it! 🤝
What app do you use to keep log of your drive time and stops etc it looks like it would help a lot
I use trucker path but the company use to use tt eld to log hours and all
If you get the time, watch a few 'Riding Shotgun" videos, he knows snow driving!
Gotta get a mounted dash cam.😅
I actually have a cobra 200 just don’t use it because the company I was at they make me switch trucks every time I go home so it’s annoying to install it then have to peel it off but will definitely be using it at prime now for sure.
@@RunningOTR ah makes sense.
@@gatolibero8329 yeah it’s already a pain in the neck having to off load things every time I go home and fly too can’t take truck home either 🤦🏼♂️

You passed my house! Near where you picked up!
