Could this be the most CONTROVERSIAL exhaust... ever? 😬

- Our flexible exhaust caused quite a controversy last night. There seems to be quite a division between some people absolutely hating it and some people absolutely loving it. We are building a "period inspired" hotrod which means we are trying to use things that would have been used back in the day. A brand new header kit purchased from a catalog is NOT the vibe we're going for. We weren't sure how we were going to hang the exhaust so today we're hoping to jump that hurdle 😬

My 14 year old son and I watch these videos every day driving to school or from surfing in the mornings in Australia . You have shown him what can be done from working on things and not adding any bs flash edits . I appreciate it. Thanks Jolene and Chad and the whole team of real people x please don’t stop
I like the way it looks, I realize Chad is showing how you could do it if you don’t have a lot of money , but you want a hot rod to drive , a lot of people in that boat , good job Chad
@@allenice3001 exactly
Your exhaust definitely has Duesenberg vibes, and lots of folks are not familiar with that look. Too bad for them, cause this/your car has a claim to the old saying; "It;s a doozy", which was a reference to the Duesenberg, which was a rarely seen car.
Nate, your doing an awesome job of making these project mechanically sound and driveable. Keep up the good work. Doug, your selfless commitment doesn't go unnoticed. Keep up the good work as well. The show's better with you two in it.
Absolutely !!!
drivable, I havent seen one finished yet, all garbage for his scrap collection
@@gobdogmanyou are clueless
I will bet....the exhaust will NOT be loud. Flat heads are a quite engine, even with straight pipe. carry on bravely Chad. !! If you built this car back in the 40's it would really turn heads. Most hot rods back then were JUNKY and unsafe.
You just described this build.
The only thing I would do differently is make a turn out collector so exhaust doesn't blow on tires heating up tires .
Preheated tires provide better grip, when the red light changes to green. 🤘😎
@@larszenthio1012 no burn-out necessary! ✌
A flatty wouldn't have enough heat coming out the ends of those pipes to roast a marsh mellow!
That's what I said yesterday.
Hey I like how Chad handled all the comments this time. To the point and direct, didnt seam to be taking the comments to heart as much.
they are laughing all the way to the bank
That's why he ask you to leave comments, it cash in the bank! Its only the nerds on here who gets upset! Keep commenting...Keep him and Jolene going.
"People don't understand i want to use stuff i already have around the shop" .. like this wrong radiator i purchased, and this crappy flex hose exhaust i purchased , and this plexiglass i purchased instead of glass, and the new steel plate and tubing i purchased, and peel and stick chrome, etc! Now do you understand? 😮
Well said and how true
And the PLASTIC RADIATOR FAN I PURCHASED....! 😮
And all the copper tubing for the radiator cooling 😮
@@scubafever282828 if you remember at the begining he said he will add all the cost and time on this one to see how much a cheap build would be and tell us at the end
The reezin'bean is he is the Great Pretender. He doesn't have the time to spend being bothered and held up by 120+ years of automotive mechanical know-how. Why not fake it and claim ignorance when his costly, creative innovation goes nowhere and fails. Functionality has always been an afterthought in his work. Isn't the mock-up good enough for you people? Just imagine it working. No need to actually see it working. Keep dreaming because dreaming is free.
I friggin love that exhaust! He is doing what he wants. And its HIS. Car.i say get er done old son,!!!!!

@@wmleuschen3586 Like when are we ever going to see a full complete interior and paint? Next week he'll be grinding on another. When you have a youtube channel and make money off of it, criticism comes with that.
Most of Fans of Bad Chad's Channel would have to admit we look forward to the daily episodes and the variety of unique vehicles that Team Hiltz have built and the interesting comments that are generated.. There's never a dull moment with the interaction between Chad, Nate and Doug. Also the ever present Jolene McIntyre on the camera and filming and producing these very entertaining daily episodes.
Bad Chad viewers are like Howard Stern listeners. When interviewed why they listen, Howard Stern supporters replied “to hear what he will say next.”
When interviewed why they listened, Howard Stern opponents said “to hear what he will say next.”
Admit it. We all love or hate what Chad does but we can’t help watching him because he is an artist that doesn’t fit the mold. What he does may be beautiful or outrageous but it is what Chad does. I give him credit for that. So should you.
Hey mister Chad your doing great on this build, I get it. Use what you got. Go out on a limb, live a little ! Makes me smile.
Do what you do....that's why I watch your channel. I don't always like what you, but respect your vision of what you like and build.
Looks good ! 👍 its been done many times in history . Corvette side pipes, for example . Great job as always , too many jealous do nothings out there😅
I used to use that cheap flex pipe when I was a kid back in 1953.
Flexi pipe not my cup of tea, but it's not my car so do what you like.
@@adylevene4318
I plan on using flexible pipe to construct headers. Then send it off to be made.
85 yrs old and still enjoy watching something out of nothing with what they have. Never had the money to get all of the tool I needed. With proper tool I probably would have done the same chad. Do what your head tells you to do and ignore everyone.
Poor man's Deusenberg. Those pipes on a Deusie were the cat's meow!
Most importantly its your build,,Iam just here to be entertained by the team. So keep on doing what you and the team do best.
Greetings from Australia to you both, I only have one issue with your build Chad - I wish it was in my shed over here 😍😊. You keep doing you mate, the main reasons I keep coming back to watch you and your lovely lady and crew is you ideas and vision. The wide variety of amazing customs you’ve all built is amazing, and I aspire to build a hot rod exactly as you are doing now, with what you have on hand 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤘🏻. Keep up the great work and ignore the haters.
I like the idea of making your hot rods with your own vision and not everyone else's.
Your vision and Jolenes you keep looking at her for inspiration
I’m truly glad that Chad has a mind of his own and doesn’t let others intimidate him. Go Bad Chad!!
I would say if it were going to be a daily true headers and exhaust would be required but as a period correct racer for competition with other period correct vehicles it is perfect. At a car show would do better than the haters Hyundais
This car reminds me of that song of Billy Joel "( still rock.n roll to me )' lol
I have so much respect for Chad the way he takes life by the Horn's and has the balls to not care what people think. Staying honest to oneself is much easier said than done it's nice to see he manages to do it. Much love to everyone stay blessed.
@@DystonicDummy well said sir
I agree with your comment sir, Chad is so fortunate have the support of his great partner Jolene. Also full marks must go to Nate and Doug as well
Bad Chads flexible exhaust pipe look great good job keep up the good work Chad and Jolene on camera
Very cool; I can't wait to hear it run. Thanks for sharing.
You could have taken 1/8 x 1 inch flat stock, bend it into a triangle shape, to fit the 3 tubes. Slip it over the 3 pieces of flex exhaust tube, and used it as a mount to hang the flex tubing. As most exhaust pipe or tubing usually has a hanger bracket to hang from the body or frame. It is an Interesting exhaust setup, no matter how it looks.
I like constructive criticism!✌
Come on my fellow gear heads.. Auburn and Cord had flex coming into the fenders. He’s like the salt racer that had it. Rat Rods are not for everyone… Freedom Baby !
Hey Chad, you need to explain to the viewers that not only are using what you have but there is a budget for this build. The fact that your not going to have everything on hand for this project and that you have to purchase items.
Nobody back in the day would make a hot rod that looked that horrible he has a vision all right his visit's to make these Frankenstein monster automobile
I’m just saying I love it. Old school stuff use what ya have.
You definitely need a guard to protect Jolene's legs with her entering and exiting the car
maybe some exhaust wrap under the doors. it might also help to hold the pipes together and to keep them from shifting
The only way that looks would work is if they were used as a cover over some proper exhaust.
Yes the exhaust is a weak setup and won’t last lang. but they won’t be driving to work and back every day. So by that it will a great while.
Chad, love the look of the car. I think most people think this is a daily driver. 🤣. It’s a car that you can slam some gears in down the track and when the exhaust pipe burns through you fix it. Just like all track cars. Thanks for the video Jolene.
Love. The. Look. Of. The. Exhaust. Adds. To. The car❤❤❤❤❤
Perfect motor to do that with. 👍Let that old 3 port baby breath!
All those haters don't know how those old Flatheads work. Don't need no stinking headers. Let it breath!!
Your comment makes no sense. Headers would do the same thing as the flex pipe, but wouldn't burn up like these will. Unless that's the point you're trying to make, and by let it breathe you mean no exhaust manifold of any kind.
The point I am making is there is not much of a benefit from headers on a flat head. Especially stock. What he is doing is going to work fine as far as exhaust flow and back pressure. Flex pipe can be easily replaced if needed. It really does not need to be rugged. Especially on a hot rod that is going to be stored and admired more then driven.
oh my god there are so many rocket scientists on this channel I like what you just said about using as much as you have just like the first generation hot rod builders did there's more old woman here than at a saturday night bingo game lol love your mind Chad your out there but more old school
@@keithmclennan3275 exactly .rocket scientist ,that’s what I call them.
I like the sweep of the exhaust. Definitely different…and different is cool.
The builder always has the final say on what it will be like and that is that! So you are perfectly fine in what you are doing. Good job Bad Chad and Jolene
The flex pipe is an Awesome solution. Looks great and itll be even better with a guard over the door portion. Keep marching on Chad, great job! (Again).
You'll only be taking it down the track now and again, this build will be fine for that have fun
I understand your concept of building this with what was available back in this cars heyday instead of all new parts that back in the day people didn't have or afford
Extraordinary look, man, that exhaust looks uniquely striking! ❤❤
It doesn’t look terrible! I don’t mind it! What I really want to see in the shop is the car that was turned into a truck I would like to see that vehicle finished. It has a great start and will probably look awesome all done! Just like the shoebox
Dude I like the whiners, it's part of the show. You build gnarly customs with your gnarly narration and we get to listen to sweet Jolenes sweet chuckles in the background. They keep coming back, fun from Texas.😃
Once again i can picture being a young man with just a simple job my dad might have got me on a farm and wanting to build a race car but didnt make the money needed so i used scrap that i found and gathered up to make a dream i dont know whats so hard here to understand what chad is trying to tell those ppl that feel there dreams can be made get real folks i thought we were all adults here but i see a bunch of ppl that could care a less about someone that doesnt have much shame on you nasayers JMO
Bad Chad I love that your lady takes interest in your work. She is even anticipating things that you need. That's cool as hell.
I like the build. To each their own.
Now would you send your wife/partner down a race in this, with maybe one set of brakes! Love it!😉
No Way Chad , You need to install the drum breaks on the front for Jolene's safety.
Why not, the other race car has a perforated metal firewall to protect her.
They run 1/8 of a mile and might get up to 45 mph. So calm the hell down and don’t worry about front brakes not working right…. Crybaby.
@@williambuhrer3524 and a gas tank right on the front. Jolene is tough do not underestimate her. she did well too for her first race ever. GO JOLENE
Lol as long as you're happy that's all that matters. It's not a daily driver so it's will last longer (flexpipe)
Exhaust looks cool...and its a racecar..for pinetree...gonna be fun....people hating...geesh...haaa😂..cya tomorrow guys
If you really don't like the electric fan, why not hide it between the grille and the radiator.
Fans work better pulling through the radiator
Is Nate hiding for the exhaust episodes?
Even though it's not how I'd do it, that doesn't mean you shouldn't. I say let the internet go crazy, they will no matter what they see, there will always be a few getting wound up about anything. Trying to please everyone leaves you with a car someone else wanted.
Sure you had to compromise on the fan, but still definitely have that post WWII homemade hot rod/race car vibe goin on! I see the vision and dig it😊👍 (PS definitely make sure Jolene has front brakes for safety!)
I think you're building it like the guys who came back from World War 2 and started building Hot Rods. The true original Hot Rodders.
Awesome, Thanks
This exhaust pipe is a mess😆😆😆😆
So are you !!!
I don’t like your use of emoji’s… sloppy ..I would of used something better
Hell yeah Chad...that's hotrodding for you
Each build just gets rougher
But yet you’re here every day and that makes you a hypocrite !!!!
Chad, the ideals great.Just add you a Chrome collector at the very end.I.Hold them all together
Flex pipe won’t hold at the inlet. The clamps will work loose. It will take several hangers to hold straight. The flex doesn’t lend itself to welding. But yet I’m watching and commenting so he is doing something right. I would have like to see him bend up some pipe beating long pieces on the ground. LOL! Now that would be custom!
@@BruceWitcpalek-ws1rh He has a right to his opinion!
@claudeperron8197
I think you need to learn the difference between an 'opinion' and an 'attack opinion'. His so called 'opinion' is def the later.
This style of car was called a jalopy back in the late forties and early fifties, a derisive term used by fathers and grandfathers. The builders thought they were grand creations, and no doubt built to annoy the older generations. Bailing wire, oil based paint thinned with gasoline and put on with a brush and mufflers made of soup cans were the order of the day. How do I know; I watched my uncles scab more than one of these together. They had a blast in these things. The coppers were a little more tolerant of their shennanegans, but still drew a line at careless operation. Getting a ride in one of my uncles hotrod cars was a bonus day.
Awesome, " those that create have no hate." 👌
That's not the first quote by Chad that I have been inspired to write down for memory's sake !
I mean, it does look like something a couple of kids with access to a junkyard in 1957 could have built. I don’t mind the exhaust, it will look better if y’all let it weather up and blend in tot he car
I think the end product will look terrific including the exhaust. Will the front wheels be a little smaller?
The finished look is not as bad at the engine as some people seem to be saying. There are a couple things that may refine the present look and function. There could have been a "collector" 3 to one at the body then one single pipe of a larger diameter with turnouts through the area at risk for burning passengers on exit Add turnouts at the end of the larger pipe. This would tuck it under the body out of harms way and also provide a way to mount a heat shield. Just my opinion (Belly button)
Love te exhaust. Very historically pleasing.
Funny...I was just thinking you could use stainless zip ties...and 'voila'..there it is 👌
I love it, those that create, don't hate. Freakin car is kool as hell. I can't wait till we fire that bad boy up, and she goes on her maiden. gimme the keys, I wanna go first!!!. Be well.
Great video thank you.

To be honest I don’t care if you use crazy straws for your exhaust, it’s your build and you do it your way ! I like it ✌🏻😁🇺🇸
Not to like this is weird. This is art, not what everyone wants. haters go away!
.
I think it looks great !
Why build a hot rot that looks like every hot rod that has been ever built. Do your own thing. I like it.
So if the front flex pipe coming off the head was concentric with the other two it wouldn’t look as bad as it does. But because it does not follow the same curve as the other two it sticks out like a sore thumb and draws your attention to it.
Why not challenge yourself and bend up some pipes instead of using Mickey Mouse flex tube?
It just looks horrendous 😢
Why not challenge yourself and start a TH-cam channel with all your custom cars so we can see😂😂😂😂
@@d.ricc6421 Im not butting in but I am..L0L he said in the video why he is using the flex tube a number of times. so to ask a question is fine but something that has been said why over and over. I am asking do you find that kind of out of place?
