I'm pretty sure what Carmine was trying to say to the protagonist at the ruins of the Loyal Three's shrine before being interrupted by the sudden phone call was that she and Kieran would be returning suddenly to Blueberry Academy, which is what's revealed shortly after. Similar to how Lillie, during the big party at the end of Sun and Moon, intended to break the news how she would be leaving Alola with her Mother, but gets interrupted before she can say it, resulting in us not hearing about it until the moment of her departure when it is time to say goodbye.

Carmine is such a great character, she is so fricking funny, like she'll just say "HEY WHY DONT YOU USE SOME NOT VERY EFFECTIVE MOVES FOR ONCE" and how she'll just compliment her looks in the middle of battle she's my favorite rival.

I still think there'll be a funny, comically jealous rivalry between Carmine and Nimona as they fight over the player character and not just in terms of Pokemon battling, should they meet and interact... lol. (but who would win, I wonder..?)
