This is what I like about this channel. The amount of pure, lighthearted fun with friends is what a good whiskey experience is largely about to me. Good stuff guys, still waiting on the next Rex Month.
You guys rock! I love the way you guys just described recall biases. Could not have been more spot on. Great videos as always. Keep up the magnificents!
I LOVE oak flavor in a whiskey. This stuff delivers with the oak flavor for sure, but it also delivers a surprising amount of bright sweetness in tandem. It dries the mouth out on the finish, probably due to the extremely tannic component. Overall, it’s good, but the bitter oakiness might be off putting to some. If anything, it’s a very unique idea and worth a try for that reason alone.
Drinking devil's cut while watching this! Not getting the aroma and flavor your getting but I dont have a trained pallet like you guys. I get a slightly sweet aroma with a very woodsy spicy flavor, great video guys!
First wiskey I tried. Devils cut. Bought the bottle and loved it. It was gone in a few days. I've been getting into Highland Park and loving the Isles scotch. Not a big fan of bourbon but found my bourbon mash with Crown Royal. I'm Canadian so I have to love crown royals maple notes
Highland park is *chefs kiss* but I swear they’ve been raising the price for Viking honour over time which sucks since it’s my favourite over the cheaper Magnus
Bangin’ episode today! You guys had me laughing with the scooter bit. 😂 How we view past pleasures and how expectations effect our judgement is spot on. I come for the Whisky 🥃 but stay for the good times.
Hello from the land of Bushmills, Game of Thrones and Motorbike road racing but probably not much else!😕 It's good to know you guys like a bit of Bush but also a bit of Knob! 😁.. I have to admit i have been a Philistine for drinking cheap blended Scotch with Coke for maybe the ladt 2 years 😕 untli my friend introduced me to Aberlour Abunadh cask strength, wow..! Within the space of a month and researching whiskey and watching you (and Rex) i have now tried all sorts from Irish Redbreast and Green spot to Talisker Skye Scotch and then immediately after that Lagavulin 16 which i fell in love with.! I never knew i lived so close to the best distillers in the world. I am now planning a trip to Islay on a little boat from the coast of Northern Ireland to do a Whiskey tour. Here's to all things Whiskey/Whisky and you guys.. Cheers
So last night I got the wonderful chance to introduce a good friend to the world of whiskey. Now he's had a few bourbons, Jim Beam, Jack, local distilleries, etc. but never a scotch. As I walked into the local Total wine I was reminded of the many videos where you've said that a poorer option for introductory scotch is an Islay, let alone a cask strength Laphroig 10. Ignoring that I walked out with Laphroig and later arrived at his house worrying that I've made a grave error. When we finally get to pouring the whiskey, he takes his first drink and loves it. I guess some people can dive right into the peat bog and love it.
Oh my god... I bought the devil’s cut yesterday... tasted (as alsways) before looking up your channel about it. So I’ll have my unbiased first impression. I liked it... but but could not relate to cinnamon and apple... Today I compared it to Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel and thought I smell oranges in the beam... or artificial oranges (we have those orange jam filled cookies here in germany). But when I re checked the video I had already forgotten about the artificial apple pie comment. But then it hit me. In my youth I used to eat small apple pie with cinnamon from a vending machine at school... and there was definitely artificial flavoring in it. And that was exactly it! ... So you totally got it right for me!
I have two questions: 1. My husband doesn't share my appreciation of whiskey, saying I drink "paint thinner." He prefers beer, with his favorite being the Blueberry Wheat Ale from Ellicottville Brewing Company. Is there a mild whiskey you would recommend I encourage him to try to turn him onto the wonderful world of whiskey? 2. Do either of you smoke cigars? If so, what are some of your preferred cigar/whiskey pairings?
Maybe let him start with a bourbon first? Don't be afraid to add water to drop the proof until he acclimates. That's normal even for regular whiskey drinkers. I do every day. Really currently love the Fuente Hemingway series and the My Father's.
You didn't marry a man. You married a wuss. Haha. Nah, jp. But on a real note, a bourbon with a few drops of water. I trained my taste buds with Evan Williams Extra Aged (black) and a couple drops of water. Aftet that, went for Rebel Yell Bourbon then Bulleit Rye. Getting used to each slowly. But yeah, it's an aquired taste.
I never tried devils cut before but I picked a bottle up on my way home today. This old Kentucky boy will find out tomorrow after Thanksgiving dinner. Thanks for sharing and happy Thanksgiving from Kentucky land between the lakes.
Hey Rex and Danny dan dan! I am part of the Facebook MB group and just finished my A to Z whiskey tour a month ago. That's where I bought a different whiskey for each letter of the alphabet except X (thats my infinity bottle). It was super fun and am thinking of a new whiskey "challenge". 30 different 30 dollar and under whiskeys! Ever make little whiskey challenges/games to make you try things you normally wouldn't?
Damn boys just started watching your videos, and I've binged watched them all. I even watched them while driving on the highway for 2 hours. Over the videos I heard you guys talk about a ralfy dude. At first I was like oh whatever another guy that'll do something like you but less cool. I just actually landed on him while searching for a review of a whiskey that I'm just trying out now. Islay mist 12. (awesome by the way, the subtle peat notes and the distinct sweetness of sherry casks and the honey that lingers). And he was one the only actual guys who understood what they were talking about. Oh well just wanted to let you guys find out that he still is doing awesome reviews! Love you magnificent bastards, A fellow whisky tribeman
Recently my wife grabbed my bottle of Jameson Caskmate and for the first time, found a whiskey she enjoyed. She has been asking about getting other Irish whiskeys and giving them a try. Would redbreast be a safe option to try next? What are your thoughts?
Awesome review guys. Definitely appreciated the commentary on "expert" wine tasting. In that same tasting where they made the one wine objectively worse they also had the same wine twice and the people tasting the same wine in two different glasses gave it completely different reviews. Kinda makes you think twice about buying that expensive Cabernet that wine advocate gave 93 points to.
Great episode! Thanks for the info, and thanks for the warning on the 'Alabama style' whiskey. We need to check into the difference between the two e scooters. If they are the same design, one might have had a lower charge, or one of these may have more 'cycles' of charge. With charging repetition a battery will hold less of a charge. Bottom line is we should be able to 'soup up' the black one. Let's do it! Cheers.
I am new to the bourbon and whiskey scene and It's Bourbon Night led me to Jim Beam Devil's Cut. Sara liked it. It was not too expensive, so I gave it a try. This is not an easy drinker yet for me and I think I enjoyed my small sample bottle of Wild Turkey 101 a bit better. My palate is not refined yet and I enjoy Jim Beam Honey and even Evan Williams Peach although they are pretty sweet. Black label Evan Williams was okay too. Rum actually led me to bourbon really. It started with a "spiced" rum from Stillwright's, then Bacardi Oak Heart was a go to because it was readily available.
Got the Devil's Cut to try before even seeing this video. Can't disagree with you. I do have to be in a certain "mood" for it. It's unique for sure, and unlike my other whiskey's.
I tried that Clyde Mays Alabama Style......after living in Alabama for 7yrs, I’m trying to figure out why apples became the flavor they decided to go for in the whiskey. Apples not exactly being the first fruit that comes to mind when I think of Alabama. I remember a long time ago asking if any whiskies were adding fruit during the aging process, and now I have my answer
Daniel Brower I'm just guessing but... when people think of the "south" they think of Texas and Alabama, and when you think of southern comfort food you think of they type of food you eat around thanksgiving/Christmas. (Apple pie/peach cobbler smothered in ice cream and Turkey.) And peach is so over used in liquor. you can go to the store and look at the flavored liquor and all you see is peach/cherry/ and sometimes watermelon or grape. So why not, not think outside the box but next to it and use Apple's?
Hey there Daniel and Rex. Thanks for the shout out on the recent Bushwood episode. I've been noticing something about your vids. Every once and a while Daniel will accent and word ending with "ing" with an additional "ink" like sound. You'll hear what I'm talking about at 5:52 of the vid. He gets excited and says "add-ing(k)". Is this some Texas slang or am I just hearing things? By the way Rex, your welcome for the new ammo against the Somm. Cheers
Danial, you said "trust the Chef" are you of the school of thought, that when you order at a restaurant, you should taste the dish as it comes to the table. Then add salt, pepper, or whatever to taste. I always thought this is a way to show the chef you respect their judgement. I also like to try a new bottle neat, just to see what the master blender was trying to give their audience.
Finally started an infinity bottle after a few of my idiot friends tried making a jack and coke out of the last bits of my Highland Park 12 haha. There was maybe 2 oz left in the HP 12, and I added equal parts Ardbeg 10, Laphroaig 10, Bunahaiban 12, Monkey Shoulder and 4 oz Balvenie 12 Double Wood. Got around to trying it last night. Holy moly that will put some furr on your sack. I can still taste some of those dark fruity toasty HP, and there is some fruit from the Monkey Shoulder and Balvenie. No more peat I think. If anything some Bunahaiban to bridge the gap and actually yeah some more HP 12, oh I’m sorry Viking Honour. Btw you guys think there is a significant difference between HP 12 and Viking Honour? There’s one last old bottling at my store and considering which one to buy.
Just love these guys I just want to drink with these two guys and go through as many bottles as we can of bourbon and scotch. That sounds like fun!!😜😜😜😂😂😂😂
Hey there, gentlemen! Would be really nice if you’d review Connemara Turf Mor (gaelic for “big peat”), the heavily peated version of Connemara - I found it extremely surprising, since it is intensely sweet on the nose, starts almost as sugarcane, but then becomes as peaty as Lagavulin, with all the salt, the leather and oily texture. One of the most surprising whiskies I ever tried.
I like the Jim Beam Devil's cut but I don't taste cinnamon or apple. It tastes like alcohol and charred wood. Maybe a little vanilla. I probably don't have a real defined pallet or sense of smell. Anyway, it is good with soda. Ginger Ale, Coke or even Spite.
So, Daniel and Rex, I want to ask you this! Do you feel your tastes have changed in the past year and a half? If we return back to Episode 21 of the Whiskey Vault, reviewing Elmer T. Lee (a fabulous whiskey I was lucky enough to get my hands on a few years ago)... Daniel and Rex, you described it as having flavors of "apples and pecans". Daniel said "I like apples and pecans, this is a homemade apple pie!" You guys thoroughly enjoyed this "apple pie" whiskey without knowing what it would be like before having it! Yet, you (in a way, respectably) harp on the Devil's Cut and Alabama Style for being like "apple pie". The difference here being the cinnamon, and that I know from personal experience that the flavors are stronger in my opinion. So! Having loved something apple pie-y a year and a half ago, but not really caring for it now, is this just a show of how different whiskey can taste based on the moment you have it? Or do you guys not care for that comfy and homey apple pie flavor anymore? Keep up the great videos!
you guys need to get your hands on all of the new special release Game of Thrones bottles and do a week of them leading up to the next season premier... when it finally comes... but it leaves you plenty of time to source them
Been watching a lot of your video's lately. Enjoying them very much. Thanks guys. Have you heard of 40 Creek Heritage (2017)? I heard it is really good and I'm probably going to pick up a bottle. Sláinte
So... to the conversation point about remembering whiskey of the past being somehow better because of the greater age difference in the current bottles, I just did you an experiment... I have a firm memory of the very first taste of whiskey I ever had. Jim Beam in 1989 straight from a bottle. I can confirm that it tastes exactly the same today straight from the bottle. 😂
Yo Daniel, just fyi, peanut butter m&m's *trounce* reese's pieces. Had they existed back in ET's day, I'm sure he would have had the sense to make the right call.
I like Fireball but it's a little too sweet. I also like Philip's Hot Stuff because they add some apple cider. Can you guys come up with a DIY cinnamon whiskey recipe for us with the perfect whiskey (preferably a bourbon under 30 or 40 bucks), a good amount of heat (by adding some type of hot pepper to the ball jar), and not too sweet?
If you want a fireball type of whiskey that isn't as sweet. Try Jack Daniels Tennessee Fire. It's got plenty of cinnamon but it's barely sweet and as the consistency of whiskey instead of being syrupy like Fireball.
I got to try all three whiskeys that Clyde May's make, this one was my favorite but the barrel proof came in a close second but didn't taste anything like the Alabama one
Yea I get what you’re saying I experienced that with people all of the time, things were always better back then ! Why are people so blind to their experiences? Nostalgia ain’t what it used to be.
Is that wine study the same one where almost none of the wine sommeliers could tell the difference between red wine and white wine with red coloring in it? Or how none of them picked out that between the inexpensive wine and expensive wine they were supposed to be comparing, they were both the same inexpensive wine, but they used different bottles for the expensive ones, yet they still went on about all of the great things about the expensive one?
Hey guys I don’t know if you can get it out in Texas but right in my back yard in Chandler Arizona the San Tan brewing company released a single malt whiskey, they say distilled and aged in Chandler, so presumably by them, and it was so good. It has become my favorite single malt and I find myself reaching for it over actual scotches. I hope you guys can find some in TX cause I can’t ship from Arizona, but if you do send me the bill, and buy it as a donation from me!
Whisky oxidizing is generally a good thing. That what makes a bottle of whisky evolve. It's only extremes of oxidization that ruin a whisky. If you can drink your whisky over the course of year you have no worries. Please, everyone, stop worrying about your whisky. Just drink it.
LMAO! Agree Daniel knows shit about TV without watching GoT. Would still love to know why the Whiskey Tribe Facebook group disappeared for me if anyone ever wants to get around to answering me. Either way I keep watching all you shows. Cheers you magnificent bastards.
Because of your video, I was expecting something like fireball (Jim Beam Devil's Cut), and I was a little disappointed. It's just whiskey. A little watery. I don't get anything robust. Jim Beam Fire is awesome, just like a cinnamon Jolly Rancher. That was what I was expecting after all of your yammering on here. I wish I would have bought a 2nd bottle of fire though.
As i wish i coukd send you a bottle of wodford reserve rye. I still havent found my rye persay but i woulf love to have yalls opion on the woodfords reserve rye. If it werent for my lower to middle end of the shelf spectrum that i typical drink from doesnt allow me to step out of my spectrum to far from and at the moment also doesnt allow me to send a bottle in. The episode on the woodford master collection made me wonder and get some tasting notes hopefully from you guys. So heres another like from me 🖒
I'm actually a fan of the Alabama style, even though that company isn't really from Alabama. LOL. On the side note, Daniel, I have an Alabama made Single Malt ready to send to you guys for review
Are you referring to the John Emerald SMW? If so I have picked up the bottle a number of times but not pulled the trigger on it yet. Would love to know what you think of it?
When he said "the real cadburys", I almost spat my drink out. I'm glad you Americans have tried REAL Cadbury's chocolate before you bought them from us British and changed the recipe to the awful chocolate it is today :(
totally didnt just realise that there is a wizard academy channel about the not whisky side of the school because i was worried i was about to run out of videos of this lovely mooch and devilish mooch
Yeah Younger whisky's don't necessarily make worse whisky's. Take Laphroaig 10 and Laphroaig quarter cask, iam quite sure QC is younger, yet i like it better. Or lagavulin 16 VS 8, i like both equally...
This is what I like about this channel. The amount of pure, lighthearted fun with friends is what a good whiskey experience is largely about to me. Good stuff guys, still waiting on the next Rex Month.
1 oz. Devil's Cut
1 oz. Clyde May's
4 oz. Eggnog
Nutmeg or cinnamon on top as preferred.
Merry Christmas!
Does this mean your now going to try and get Milla Kunis to drink in the vault. Great special episode Mila and McConaughey

Old fashioned with Devil's Cut is Magnificent.
"I'm listening... Say your words" will now be part of my vernacular. Such a great line.
I remember liking the Devil's Cut edition.
Drinking devil's cut while watching this! Not getting the aroma and flavor your getting but I dont have a trained pallet like you guys. I get a slightly sweet aroma with a very woodsy spicy flavor, great video guys!
I get the same. No apple or cinnamon to be found to my nose or palette.
Glad you're covering the devils cut! Someone got it for me a while back, cool to know what you think.
I honestly got devils cut cuz it was cheaper than a standard jd at the time. Pleasantly surprised
Hello from the land of Bushmills, Game of Thrones and Motorbike road racing but probably not much else!😕 It's good to know you guys like a bit of Bush but also a bit of Knob! 😁..

Wow... that was the nicest way I have ever heard anyone say "this wiskey sucks"! Sure seams like you guys are having fun.
YES!! Been waiting for this one for a long time!
Jim Beam was my first whisk(e)y and the first alcoholic drink that I liked. That's when I started to like whisk(e)y
I have two questions:

That sounds like the reverse of a standard couple's drink preferences.
That second one sounds amazing. Apple cider is one of my go to drinks.
I never tried devils cut before but I picked a bottle up on my way home today. This old Kentucky boy will find out tomorrow after Thanksgiving dinner. Thanks for sharing and happy Thanksgiving from Kentucky land between the lakes.
There's a Seinfeld episode where the old people are racing in the scooter's! lmao
Craig Yancey doesn't a British movie do that To? Like hot fuzz?
Hey Rex and Danny dan dan!
I am part of the Facebook MB group and just finished my A to Z whiskey tour a month ago. That's where I bought a different whiskey for each letter of the alphabet except X (thats my infinity bottle). Ever make little whiskey challenges/games to make you try things you normally wouldn't?
I actually find the Devil's Cut quite a bit easier on the palette than the Black. Anyone get a strong waffle cone flavor up front on this one?
Hi guys ! I wanna buy some Jack Daniel's nr 27 Gold does is worth it ?
Time to do review on Ardbeg Uigeadahl. Its liquid beef stroganoff among many other amazing things
I get red apple. Mainly because rex said red apple during one of the live streams.
Call me crazy, but I like the 10 better. It's more elemental and 'raw'. Something about the sherry in there annoys me, haha
Damn boys just started watching your videos, and I've binged watched them all. I even watched them while driving on the highway for 2 hours. Over the videos I heard you guys talk about a ralfy dude. I've said it before, I honestly believe that we are probably drinking the best whisky ever produced during this time period.
Recently my wife grabbed my bottle of Jameson Caskmate and for the first time, found a whiskey she enjoyed. She has been asking about getting other Irish whiskeys and giving them a try. Would redbreast be a safe option to try next? What are your thoughts?

Bought Jim Beam Devil's Cut on your recommendation - good booze! Suggest you try New York (Utica) 601 American Bourbon, a local craft distillate.
Got the Devil's Cut to try before even seeing this video. Can't disagree with you. I do have to be in a certain "mood" for it. It's unique for sure, and unlike my other whiskey's.

any opinion on Dalwhinnie Winters Gold? They even recommend you drink it out of the freezer!
Reese's Pieces is the bomb
Clyde May's and sweet tea is very drinkable. Especially at Christmas on the FL/AL line.
Devil's cut is all I drink
I'm drinking some as I speak my friend.
Why bother w reviews
Interesting description there guys.
Hahaha watching this while drinking devils cut and eating popcorn lol
I remember yall doing a Dalmore Cigar Malt video, but i can't seem to find it on YT. Can you do it again?
You do talk in a few episodes about how the whiskey would be great in cocktails.
I would love to see you try this beam in some.
Well, Rex, it looks like it's up to you to push for a "Game of Thrones" week when Diageo releases the 8 single malts and "White Walker" Jonnie Walker.
most days are great but you two must know that the toast at the end, when done right,. makes everything all right. dig?
I must have a bottle of Clyde whiskey
Ditto on the Reeses pieces. Also peanut m&ms are about as good as it gets.
haha i love how contagious their laughing is lol XD
Just love these guys I just want to drink with these two guys and go through as many bottles as we can of bourbon and scotch. That sounds like fun!!😜😜😜😂😂😂😂

gebagra “Mor” in Gaelic is closer to “great” than “big” in meaning if I am not mistaken. They are roughly synonymous.

What does Daniel drop at the 2:35 point of this video? Whatever it is it's got me cracking up! Lmfao!
you guys need to get your hands on all of the new special release Game of Thrones bottles and do a week of them leading up to the next season premier... when it finally comes... but it leaves you plenty of time to source them
Been watching a lot of your video's lately. Enjoying them very much. Thanks guys. Have you heard of 40 Creek Heritage (2017)? I heard it is really good and I'm probably going to pick up a bottle.
Sláinte
I gave up on GoT halfway into season 2. I found the whole finale upset very entertaining.
That Clyde may seems really interesting, but i can't get it in the Netherlands. Now i have to spend my holiday in the USA...
So... to the conversation point about remembering whiskey of the past being somehow better because of the greater age difference in the current bottles, I just did you an experiment... I have a firm memory of the very first taste of whiskey I ever had. Jim Beam in 1989 straight from a bottle. I can confirm that it tastes exactly the same today straight from the bottle. 😂
Definite oak, and I missed the apple cinnamon. Agree with the dry after taste.
Whats the over under on how many bags of Reeses Pieces Daniel gets after this?
I just love the Devil's cut...
11:58 is my new favorite moment in all whisky vault videos
No hobbits in GoT Rex. How would you expect Daniel to relate.
Love the show but gotta say Vols are the real UT
Hey guys I don’t know if you can get it out in Texas but right in my back yard in Chandler Arizona the San Tan brewing company released a single malt whiskey, they say distilled and aged in Chandler, so presumably by them, and it was so good. It has become my favorite single malt and I find myself reaching for it over actual scotches. I hope you guys can find some in TX cause I can’t ship from Arizona, but if you do send me the bill, and buy it as a donation from me!
Do you have Chattanooga whiskey? If not, you should try it
@Rex & Daniel: How do you keep the 700+ open bottles in the vault from oxidizing?
Alejandro Russo I would like to know as well.
Whisky oxidizing is generally a good thing. That what makes a bottle of whisky evolve. It's only extremes of oxidization that ruin a whisky.
If you can drink your whisky over the course of year you have no worries. Please, everyone, stop worrying about your whisky. Just drink it.
Am currently drinking this all I can smell and taste is jd from uk
You ever notice the mooch gets the first pour?.... What a gentlemen to serve his boss first. Cheers

Fuck that, JACK
Mr. C.A. Duncan I pick up cinnamon once I get past the smoke... still exploring it.
Apple pie..thanks!!! I couldn’t quite put my hand on it.
When he said "the real cadburys", I almost spat my drink out. I'm glad you Americans have tried REAL Cadbury's chocolate before you bought them from us British and changed the recipe to the awful chocolate it is today :(
Apple cider whiskey. Sounds very strange. How does this compare to say Calvados, which is apple brandy?
The movie was Johnny English Reborn with Rowan Atkinson. There was a chase scene using scooters.I watched not to long ago.
Way to Go Chad!
Yooooo Daniel tell us about the 120 year old Hat you own... 🤔🤔
I was legit one second away from making the ET comment when you said it in episode
totally didnt just realise that there is a wizard academy channel about the not whisky side of the school because i was worried i was about to run out of videos of this lovely mooch and devilish mooch
Yeah Younger whisky's don't necessarily make worse whisky's. Take Laphroaig 10 and Laphroaig quarter cask, iam quite sure QC is younger, yet i like it better. Or lagavulin 16 VS 8, i like both equally...
Watching these way in the future... Rex's bemoaning of lack of GoT episodes gave us Season 8
