- In this video I will be reviewing Jim Beam Black aged 7 years.

It's like everyone is doing a review of this bottle and I still haven't seen it in CT. Most reviews, like yours, are very positive for this. I'll keep looking out for it.
I think it's worth a look. Next month I'll throw it into a blind flight with 5 or 6 other bottles to see how it does. Cheers!
This has become one of my new favorite bourbon to have neat. My stepson gave me two bottles for Father's Day. I love that kid. And by the way, my step daughter lives in Chandler.
Nice. Happy father's day. If stepsons keep giving you good whiskey they keep their worth. 😜 Now he has set a precedent and he needs to keep doing it. Your step daughter and I are on opposite ends of the valley. I'm Northwest Phoenix.
On my 2nd bottle. $20.00 in my area. I expected nothing from it but was pleasantly surprised. Easy drinker for sure. It's one to keep around.

For me, maybe have a Jim Beam shoot out. The seven year versus old tub versus old granddad bonded versus Jim Beam extra age black would be a good matchup. Another one I’d like to see is maybe Elijah Craig small bats versus the Jim Beam seven year versus Evan Williams 1783.I know it’s a little all over the place but that’s what I’d like to see.
I will se what I can do. I already have the month of May all shot and scheduled to be released. I can try and get something in July on a Friday.

I’ve compared it to a bunch of things and it’s lost every time. I’ll compare it to Old Tub and OGD 100 ASAP
Compared the three, this was the order for me. OGD100, Old Tub, JB7, I finally found a way to enjoy the JB7, mix it with the other 2.

Well, I was at the grocery store and they had it for around $20, so I bit the bullet and got it. Pleasant nose - didn't blow my socks off, but good. I enjoyed the vanilla, caramel, and nuttiness on the palate, and it was a little creamier and less thin than I was expecting. Especially for the price, I'd put it in WT 101 territory. Would definitely buy again!
Nice. I have my blind flight scheduled for June 21st. 8 bottle flight. It was challenging.
The Bourbon Junkies and SLB channels both did blinds, and it did well.
That does not surprise me at all. It's a good bottle.

I’ve side by sided it against, knob 100, makers and BT. It lost to all three.
I am a beginner. One of my favorites is Knob Creek 9. I would enjoy seeing these 2 in a blind.

Thanks Peter. I am hoping to find something at the price point of the Jim Bean 7 year that I like. So far all the younger bourbons I have tried just overwhelm me with ethanol. Maybe, it is just me. Thanks for your hard work!
This could be a viable alternative to Buffalo Trace despite the difference in flavor profile. As BT is still increasing in price, I am sure there are many people who are looking for more reasonable priced offerings.
I have been sipping on the bottle for a week now and the flavor profile is holding up nicely. I agree that it could be an alternative to BT.
Best alternative we've found to BT is the Trader Joe's bourbon. Based off of what we've found online, it's essentially their company's store pick with BT.

Im in the minority here, I don’t think it’s very good at all. I’ve side by sided it against a bunch of things and it’s lost every time.
I’ll be trying Old Tub & OGD 100 next thanks to the comments section.
I’ll stand by my former (and current) opinion. The prohibition style rye (which appears to be discontinued) is the best Jim Beam offering, I prefer it to the single barrel offerings, I’ve compared it to SIB’s both new and old and even JB store pics. I need to grab another 1.75 before they are all gone, like the bonded was for a few years.

Not a huge rye fan but, I eat Serranos with almost every meal so I don’t pick up the spice others do.
I’ve seen the new knob rye 10 year for $57.98 the other day, I may regret passing on that one.
I like it and can pick it up just north of $20 at Sam’s Club. Only thing is the bitterness at the end. Thinking it’s char like you noted.

Terrific review Peter! I see this bourbon as a mixer and if it’s reasonably priced in Vancouver and available I will pick up a bottle! I’d love to see a blind of few similar bourbons! Sounds fun! I do like a spicier bourbon and my relationship with bourbon is a bit iffy but I have now seen several encouraging reviews for this newish Jim Beam. I am not a fan but this expression sounds intriguing! So many people seem to like it! I love hearing about the leather or tobacco note. Leather? I think so! I usually prefer high ABV spicy Rye cocktails - Manhattan, Brooklyn, Vieux Carre, Old Fashioned - but there are also some amazing Bourbon cocktails. As a supper I picture this to be more thin with little finish but we will see! Terrific video! Always thoroughly enjoyable! Reasoned, fun, super interesting! Cheers Peter!

Nice review Peter. I picked up a 750ml of Jim Beam Black 7 Year a few weeks ago for $23. It is enjoyable for the price. I will use it as a primer bourbon like I do with Buffalo Trace. It is so much better than Jim Beam white label. 🤮🥃
I think I might be doing the same thing. I've been sipping on this bottle all week and the profile is growing on me. I think it might have more depth than BT.
Would like your view on the Extra Aged VS 7year....
The Extra Aged and the Evan Williams 1783 will be part of the blind along with a few more. It might be a 8 bottle blind. YIKES!
I grabbed two handles of the gym being eight year black and I’m hoping to do a comparison to the seven year. I did see all the label changes with that Jim year extra age, black bourbon, and it was kind of comical.
It's like sports teams changing jerseys every year to keep people buying them. I think I even saw a triple aged black bottle floating out there.
@@whiskeyisajourney that’s exactly it. You hit the nail on the head. I would say the Jim Bean label fiasco is like the jersey changes. Everything is the same team wise. just the jersey changes and people buy them up. Although with the gym being black extra age, depending on the store, nobody bought them. One store owner said when I bought the eight year handles that he’s finally happy to be rid of them.
JB Black 7 far surpasses the 8 year .

I am taking JB7. I think there is depth to this bottle that the others might not have, but the bitter finish might put BT on top. Not sure, but my gut tells me JB7.
Jim Beam's official website has now taken down the Jim Beam Black Extra Aged and replaced it with Jim Beam Black 7 years so that's a sign that they're probably phasing out the Jim Beam Black Extra Aged 🥃

Jim Beam Black 7 Year I get more peanut note than I did Black Extra Aged. I think you should blind Black Extra Aged , Black 7 Year, Elijah Craig Small Batch and Evan Williams 1783 😃👍🏻🥃

I wish they would have made it around 94-96 proof but def. gonna give it a try when I see it. I realize these aren't single barrels but I wonder if this is just a proofed down Baker's 7? Maybe a blind with some small batch offerings from EC, Larceny, 1792 and EW 1783.

I just bought my third Bottle and enjoy it neat... I also enjoy Evan Williams 1783 neat. I used Rittenhouse for Highballs last night while I Made my beautiful wife of 36 years Lemon Drop Martini's

I’m mostly a single malt guy but when it comes to bourbon I do prefer the Jim Beam profile, especially Knob Creek 12 and Bakers 7. This sounds like a decent option when out at a bar.
This bottle reminds me of a baby Bakers 7.
