    Just used this tutorial today to fix my left joycon, thanks for the tips!
    One thing I’d also recommend is reinforcing the part so the SL and SR buttons are more clicky. To do this, I took the old, faulty part and ripped off the ribbon cable, then used a knife to remove the electronic parts from it so it was just a flat board of the exact same shape. I then screwed both in together one on top of the other, so that the part didn’t flex as much when the buttons were pressed. It’s now more clicky than the original board, which is nice! The piece flexes less too so less prone to breaking.

    Unfortunately couldn't do the under the battery tray trick for my left joycon as it will interfere with the stick module and the ribbon cable for L/ZL buttons but otherwise it went great, thanks for the tutorial. Too bad the cable is intentionally designed to be too long in length as this cable will fail again as that fold flattens over time until the connection breaks.

  • @LightriverArt
    @LightriverArt 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I have a problem with the left joycon - both stick drift and the failure of the SL SR buttons. Unfortunately the left one doesn´t have a nice way to tuck the ribbon cable so as soon as I reassemble it I know it's only a matter of time before it happens again.
    Hopefully Nintendo (and the other major publishers) resolve this problem next gen because they used to stand for quality but each of them have been suffering stick drift for years now across multiple iterations. Even the "elite" or "pro" options that cost £150+ suffer the same problems.
    Meanwhile my GameCube and PS2 controllers work absolutely fine over 20 years on.

    Can you find a permanent fix i dont want to constantly fix it every 2 years or few months if not (this is another reason ill start hating nintendo :| ) they seem so cheap.... (80$ joycons which has some faults,some problems with the switch itself,dead pixels,and a online membership which is terrible,its not that bad but i hate it when it starts lagging with flipping 4 bars of wifi)so um nintendo? Can you um finnally be wise about that? Ik its alot of work but its making the console look bad.... ._. The only gteat thing about is the games dont get me wrong i love nintendo but it feels like there going backwards heck i think the wii u is starting to look better in those ways besides the games and revolutionary controllers (which dont work well some times) i love nintendo but do better ik you can

    • @namedkenn
      @namedkenn  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, I quite agree with most of your arguments here, there’s ups and downs with the Switch, definitely not a perfect product (but the games I love them!).
      But unfortunately I don’t see a permanent solution to this problem. Because, how do I say it, it’s a ’natural’ consequence of metal that rubs on that ‘pad’ which will eventually cause debris and thus, drifting problems. I really hope Nintendo could fix it with future revisions.

      This method is just for repairing the sync button, joycon wireless LEDs and SL/SR buttons. If your joycon won't connect to the switch handheld properly, it may be because some pins aren't making contact so you'll need to clean them.

    I have some questions if you wouldn't mind answering them. My right joycon it's turning on or charging, I changed the battery and the sl rl strip but still getting nothing. Am I just having to get a new one or am I missing something? I can't find anything online besides having to change the sl rl strip but that didn't help.

    Thanks for the vid, helped me a lot. Replaced sl sr and both sticks on both joycons and couldn't have done it without your videos. Unfortunately left stick I put in drifts worse than the original, but think it was dodgy stick, so gonna have to do it again. Will be watching your vid again for sure!

    So my son over the weekend dropped his switch and the exact same happened the ribbon ripped in half. I ordered the part from amazon, got it next day today, followed your instructions and bam like brand new. At first I was upset with my son and I was going to make him save up for a new joycon but I was like you know what I've modded and fixed other consoles why not try this one and I ended up having a great time fixing it for only $6.00 and I still have the other ribbon just in case this happens on the left one. Thanks it helped tons and saved me lots of money

    I opened my controller up and repaired a button, and had to remove the bottom ribbon cable of the rails, now I can’t get it into the connector right which is making it so it won’t connect to the switch in Handheld mode:(

      I had the same problem too. Take a look underneath the connector and you can see the slots are at the bottom. It it makes sense, you just align both parts and press from the top rather than slotting from the side. It should click perfectly. Hope this helps.

      I faced the same problem. If you take a look underneath the connector, you will see slots for the pin. Just align both parts together and press from the top rather than from the side. It should click perfectly. Hope this helps for future fixers.

    Thank You, the side is working. But right now when the right joy con attached to console it doesn't work. I've tried disconnect joycon and connect back, power off, all doesn't work. Is it any cable I've affect during the process of fixing.
    But even that doesn't make sense as when the joycon was use individually as dual player or single player it works

    • @namedkenn
      @namedkenn  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It could be, make sure that you have connected everything inside, there’s one connector that only serves to connect the joycon to the switch

    • @raynlim
      @raynlim 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@namedkenn any idea which connector would it be?

    • @raynlim
      @raynlim 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@namedkenn could it be the shorter ribbon that is the next to the SL SR or the ribbon below the R and ZR?

    • @namedkenn
      @namedkenn  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rayn Lim it’s on vertical orientation, at the very bottom of the SL/SR rail, and the connector is very close to the motor/battery connection at the bottom of the Joy Con

    Thank you so much for this video, I couldn't use the synch button one day and this helped a lot with fixing it.
    My hands are big and they shake a lot when doing precision stuff so you can imagine how hard it was for me, especially dealing with those tiny connectors like the ribbon cables and the battery connector.
    I think I meesed up tough because the actual sync button feels loose and I can't actually press it with my fingers, I have to use something to press it down and make it click, kinda like the wii days... by the time I noticed I couldn't be bothered to open it up again lmao. Maybe some other day.

    Thank you for the great video. I've followed the steps on a R Joy Con and put it back together but am getting no lights at all. Battery and NFC cables seem to be reconnected correctly and ribbon cables seem to be clipped in correctly. May just battery drain? Any suggestions? 🤔
