Botanist here, native to SoCal. The purple was sea lavender and the red flowers are bottlebrush - hummingbirds and bees love them.
Seeing the Sizzler reminds me of the Bonanza restaurant from the 70s-80s that our family always went to in Missouri. Still the same „look“ after all these years!
Bonanza was my family's JAM!! That and Western Sizzlin'. 😁 Kind of a pity most of those places are gone now.
We stopped at a Bonanza a few times with relatives who live in S/W Missouri. And Sizzlers in CA. Good food usually.
We were in Beijing, looking for a place to eat in this small shopping center. We rounded a corner, and came face-to-face with a Sizzler!! Yes, I was in heaven!!
We still had Bonanza where I live up until a few years ago. I sure miss the tapioca puddin
How about PONDEROSA??😢 They are almost all gone as well.
Welcome to SoCal! The “pepper flakes” is Tajin and the stuff on top is chamoy! We Mexicans put spice on EVERYTHING! 🤣
No le gustó el Tajín con chamoy. Jajajaja 😂
That’s right!
Not to burst your bubble BUT.... The Santa Cruz Boardwalk, which is the oldest surviving amusement park in California (1907), serves as the backdrop for a lot of scenes in The Lost Boys - and it's where viewers are first introduced to “the family.” The family being a group of big hair-wearing, wheelie-popping, teenage-brooding vampires. The fictitious town of 'Santa Carla', with its lively boardwalk and funfair is unmistakably Santa Cruz, south of San Francisco between Monterey and San Mateo.
Raised my boys in Seal Beach. Both graduated from Los Alamitos High School. That Sizzler has been there forever. So glad it is still open for business. Thanks for the memories.
The first Claim Jumper we ever went to was in Seal Beach! Judge Wapner was there tha same time.
I lived in Seal Beach also worked at Bob's Big Boy PHC and 2nd lol. It's gone but what I miss is Hofs Hut 😂😂
Pretty amazing day for you two! Some of my favorite guys ❤ big fail on the fruit cup sorry! Boy was that fruit magical last time we were there. Love you sweetheart, keep brother Steve out of trouble 🤣🤣
What I love about traveling is the amazing things that can happen, and the mistakes we can make. They both make great memories and stories to tell everyone back home. You and Steve can say “remember those horrible fruit cups we had on the Santa Monica pier? Who knew you could ruin fruit…” for years to come.
Pretty sure Lost Boys was filmed in Santa Cruz. But, Santa Monica is still iconic!
Yep, that scene was on the SC Boardwalk.
Ludicris did the soundtrack to Lost Boys
The Lost Boys was filmed on the Santa Cruz Boardwalk not the Santa Monica Pier
Yep!!! I knew he was wrong about that immediately. I’ve been to Santa Cruz many times.
I concur.... I was about to say something but you are too fast...
Local here. Born and raised. Use the carpool lanes and Waze. Also don’t know if you’re being adorable, but it’s pronounced Point Doom. Any questions, lmk!!
Ya think Tony & Steve navigated L.A. without Waze?!!! It didn't dawn on me until I read your comment!😂!!
Feel free to pronounce California names anyway you want to😂
Uhhh…. Another Los Angeleno here..I’ve always called it/and heard it pronounced as Point “Doom-uh”…? Did you accidentally forget the “uh”?:)
I’d be careful with the carpool lanes. I know of at least one (in Orange County) where you have to pay for a pass. Not sure about LA.?
@@StealthyGypsy in Orange County their areas that you can use a fast pass, which are the toll roads otherwise carpool lanes or carpool lanes.
You are so positive! You seem like a person that makes their own good time no matter who you travel with or where you go. Enjoy!
Usually, the overcast is marine layer that is typical in the morning, but will 'burn' off.
Red flower: Dwarf Bottle Brush..Purple flower: Statice...
So great to see a positive slant on The Golden State for a change! Brings back fond memories.
Hi Tony and Steve. That's some travel day. SoCal traffic is no joke. As always thank you for all you do. ❤
It’s so awesome that you took your brother-in-law on an excursion to the 405 freeway. Well, you have to admit it was an all day excursion- almost. Welcome to Los Angeles, enjoy your stay, and have a blast on your cruise!
So nice to see you in my neck of the woods. Enjoy the West Coast!
Love these vlogs you're making
Its fun seeing all the locations that have meaning to me. I lived in Malibu in HS and was bussed into Santa Monica for hs. Chad lowe rode my bus, Dean Cain and Gary Busey lived on my block. Point Dume is Point DOOM. I went to CSULB and lived in Long Beach for 15yrs before moving to Santa Clarita( where a lot of movies/tv shows are filmed daily). We had a sizzler here, but it went belly up. The airport is actually in Lakewood.
Love Southwest. They go to the smaller airports near big towns like Dallas Love Field and Chicago Midway etc.
The large Carousel inside on the left when you 1st go on the pier was the filming location in The Sting. Where Paul Newman’s Grifter character lived/worked at the beginning of the film.
Welcome to California Tony! We love to have you!
Rockstar living. Up all day and night. Rocking the Sizzler and beyond. Party on!!!!!
Thanks Tony for taking us to the SM Pier!
My family moved from Mi to Ca in 1966 .. we got on Route 66 at the beginning in Chicago and drove it all the way to Covina Ca … just 38 miles short of Santa Monica .. the end of Route 66. What a hot August trip that was.
We live, and we learn !! Thanks for sharing your and Steve's day, Tony !
Santa Monica Pier is a nice place to hang out if you're waiting for the LA rush hour to settle down. And the Pacific Coast Highway is a very nice scenic drive, especially after you pass Malibu
Oh my goodness, you were three blocks from me when you ate at the sizzler! Los Alamitos is the greatest.
Red stuff is chamoy and flakes are Tajín, both are of Mexican origin and enjoyed by many here in SoCal and any other place with a large Mexican or Latino population. 15 bucks is the tourist price. The onion looking stuff on the Tostilocos are Cueritos- pickled pig skin.
Flowers: purple are lantana and red are bottle brush. We cruise out of Long Beach and San Pedro, but live near the Pinnacles in Trona. The newer versions of Planet of the Apes and Star Trek had scenes filmed there. Lunch and dinner: I'm sorry you didn't try In n Out Burger. Maybe you already did on a previous trip. It's not for everyone. I love Sizzler, but I have to drive a long way to get to one. The salad bar comes with the bread and a baked potato if you ask for it.
Next time you drive from Trona to Long Beach, Bakersfield has a Sizzler just off of State Route 99 at the California & Real Rd intersection.
In n out is a must do. We have them here in Reno Nevada, and the line is long, day or night!
Welcome to So Cal! It's our May gray weather! Next month is the June gloom.
Love Sizzler! We were just talking about it last night.
I miss Sizzler!! We don’t have them here in Australia anymore. 😞 I feel hungry for pumpkin soup and that yummy cheese toast now! 😂
My back yard! LGB is a great airport to use. Nice hotels just north of the airport with restaurants nearby. Have a great cruise!
Have a great cruise!
Welcome to California 🎉
Have a great cruise looking forward to hear all about it
Nice Vlog Tony thanks for sharing
Ok, so first off, thanks for the drive down memory lane! I spent a good part of my younger years running up and down PCH! I cant believe you went to Santa Monica and missed Venice!!! That is truly an experience you should not miss. Traffic is on a different level - and almost as bad as Atlanta! It's always overcast at the beach this time of year, we called that June Gloom and its not specific to June! LOL..... Fruit cups are everywhere and you need to understand how that entire thing works, or you will be disappointed. Sorry about that.
That was fun going along on the trip with you guys.. - See you tomorrow.. 🌷
Oh there's donuts! Love your videos! I went on my first cruise last month and your knowledge helped me so much. safe travels!
I was a Big Lost boys fan back in the 80’s !!
Wow, on Sizzler what fun safe travels. I can’t wait to see the rest of your week.
Lost Boys & Sizzler?! Thanks for the flashback! Looking forward to hearing about your cruise.
loved the tour thanks for letting me tag along.
Welcome to SoCal and LA traffic! So glad we did not disappoint Love cruising out of Long Beach, a lot easier than Miami..
We have two Sizzler restaurants still open in the county where I live. We typically go to the one closest to us about 3-4 times a year.
So glad you’re in my neck of the woods!! Enjoy!
We f,ew into Seattle and I went to bed at 6:30pm and woke up at 2:45am. We board a cruise to Alaska today and I see a nap in my future
Hi Tony. I didn’t know you saw my high school ! Los Alamitos class of ‘88 🙂
Should have stayed at the Queen Mary
Welcome to California, hope you enjoy your visit here.
Cool video. The LGB airport and Santa Monica are pretty cool.
ZOLTAR lol I haven’t seen or thought of him in years and years. Too funny.
Thank you for sharing. Once again, love the work you do to share your cruising experiences.
Cruise News IS da News!!!
And that’s Ludicrous 😁
News for you: beaches in Southern Cal are often overcast until the afternoon. It even has a name, "Offshore Flow."
Interesting. When I was growing up, we called it the June gloom, even if it wasn’t June.
@@StealthyGypsy There used to be a weather guy on one of the TV channels in L.A. who always mentioned it. Yep, it wasn't always June, it was basically the whole summer. I know because I used to go to the beach a lot and it'd be cold in the morning.
Happy travels Tony!! Looking forward to your vblogs.
I always love your travel and cruise vlogs! Have a great time! I look forward to seeing some California places and the “new” Carnival ship.
I love Long Beach Airport!
50-60 thousand for houses on Malibu beach front location… Bless his little heart. Try 20-30 million dollars.
I love the fruit cups even with the cucumbers! I get them here in FL
I love flying in or out of Long beach.
Awwww, love California!! Thank you for showing the beach and Sizzlers, that was my mom's favorite place. The fruit you had was fruta preparada has everything but if your not used to eating chamoy (the red syrup) and tajin..it will taste alittle sour. Y'all have a wonderful time!
I ❤ me some LA was just there last month the pier is my favorite place. I always visit also made my 1st trip to Disney Land. Hope you all had fun !!
Thanks for showing the arcade !!!
SoCal - May & June, no sun before noon . . . or maybe a little later yesterday.
So cool! Enjoy your west coast trip. We loved Santa Monica and driving up highway 1
Have a great trip. 😊
Welcome to SoCal from your San Diego fans to the south! Enjoy your stay! I hope you enjoy the Firenze. We'll be on her in December.
Good Morning Tony and happy pre cruise day
THREE'S COMPANY beginning of the show was the kids on the Santa Monica Pier !!! As well as that was the supposed location they lived!!
Love this video being from SoCal. I took my son in law and daughter to Point Dume around Christmas time last year to show them the beach and movie location, they thought I was crazy. Thanks Tony for verifying my craziness. "The Sting" movie from the early 70's was filmed at the carousel on Santa Monica Pier, Paul Newman Robert Redford Classic. Keep Traveling!
Hi Tony, hope you both have a fantastic time, please stay safe God Bless.
I looked it up..many films....wow!..thank you for the wonderful tour..time lapsed which is great ..I hate waiting..
I loved the sizzler..it was by the smithhaven mall
Great video ❤❤❤❤
Couldn’t handle the tajin. I understand 😂😂, def threw me off the first time I had it
Enjoy!
Great to see California 😊
Looks like Atlanta traffic on any given day! Enjoy your trip!
It was worse than Atlanta. I have done that many times.
Happy to see you on the west coast. Someday I hope to have a Tony sighting. Thanks for sharing. 😊
The thing you did right was to fly into Long Beach. We avoid LAX whenever possible. Long Beach if you are going south or Burbank if north of LA are both great.
That brought me home to my San Pedro CA roots! I could almost smell the ocean! I thought all Sizzlers were long gone! Back in the 70’s a Top Sirloin steak dinner was 1.95 including the salad bar. Gas was 32 cents a gallon.
Welcome to California!
Great video Tony! That sizzler sure brings back some good memories. 😊
You were off by about 350 miles on the Lost Boys filming location. They filmed at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, up north heading towards San Francisco.
Thanks for the video, Tony. It was nice seeing Sizzler again. Sorry about the fruit cups. Enjoy your cruise.
🥰🛳️🌺🌴⚓️
Cool starfish shirt Tony!
You are in my city called Los Alamitos. Welcome 🤓
i just love the shout outs man
California, plus some in the nearby states of Washington, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, Idaho, Utah, Oregon and Puerto Rico.
Those are the states that have sizzler remaining. Well, states and territories.
That toilet joke was hilarious...SHOUT-OUT to LUDA
I think it was Lost Boys!!! “ONE THING ABOUT LIVING IN SANTA CARLA I NEVER COULD STOMACH: ALL THE DAMN VAMPIRES.” - GRANDPA EMERSON
I am one of those people who watches a movie once every ten or twelve years, but it took me less than ten seconds to come up with this being The Lost Boys! One of the few movies I've ever even seen, memorable for a lot, but DEFINITELY not least - Tim Cappello!
Thanks for the trip down memory lane! I lived in Southern Cali from the early 60s to early 70s - I've been to most of the places you visited
For years we took 2 weeks in LA area in March and October--- thanks so much for the revisit--- Santa Monica, Marine layer, Malibu Beach behind strip mall on ocean side, Point Dume (my rock,) pelican fly by on SM pier Ferris wheel, Palos Verdes, Catalina Island w/ it's Wrigley gardens, Angel's Flight and Egg Slut @the Market ---- have done it all. LA is worth about 2 weeks. Purple flower is Agapanthus...and red bougainvillea!!!! It's worth dealing with the traffic. Next time try King's Hawaiian in Torrence (original bakery!) Try a cruise that stops in Catalina!
You are in my old stomping grounds, I lived and worked in the Long Beach area for 25 years.
Oh yes chilly California.
Ha Tony! You got me! I paused at each location to look it up. Should have known better. Great video have a wonderful trip see you next time. ~Cara 😊
Flying into Long Beach is the best. LAX is a nightmare!!
Long Beach is one of my favorite little airports
Smoke + Fire rocks!
Loves this. Makes me homesick for Zumba Beach and Point Dume. Love Sizzler. lol fruit. Woops. Love this vid. Thanks!
Welcome to California! I go on the Firenze in 30 days!!!!!
Turn that statue of Liberty upside down and you've got the ending of Spaceballs
