Recently I was in the hospital and needed help with so many things. Then when I got home ( it was at night), I met a young man that was stranded at the train station. I was able to help him. After so much being done for me It was wonderful to be able to help someone else. Thank you for helping those people. You were brought up the right way.

Scotland is so much more welcoming to touring vans than is England. All too often south of the border we find height restrictions on carparks but in Scotland we come across wonderful pull-ins like you showed in Aberfeldy. Its always so welcoming in Scotland. I agree with you about the terrible summer - it was much the same in Cumbria, just over the border so it's good to see you taking advantage of the better weather. I did walk the Glen Lyon Horseshoe and bagged all 4 Munroes, but that was 40 years ago and I think it would be enough to look at them from the road now ! When you pulled in to the layby , the furthest of the two hills was indeed a Monroe, Meall Ghaordaidh , those remote mountains were some of my favourites to climb, so thank you very much for reminding me of great days in the hills. Your reaction to those in difficulty on the road was so good. It's what I have always found in those kinds of places, people will go out of their way to help. It was a very nice thing to do.

Aberfeldy has a special place in our hearts.
It was our first holiday with our 18 month old Son.
This was 2005 and we flew up to Edinburgh(his first ever flight) and hired a car.
We’d booked into a little flat/lodge in the grounds of the Moness Hotel.
What a place it was to visit.
Best fish & chips we’ve ever had from High street in the village.
A local attraction in the village were “The Birks of Aberfeldy” and the “Falls of Moness”.
Robert Burns wrote about them in 1787.
Quite a hard walk, but well worth it.

You are a gem Ruth to help those people and lend them your Star-Link! Very Scottish of you!
I have had several people offer me help when visiting Scotland, as I often stop my car to view wildlife or take photos. I had tradesman in the highlands ask if I needed help and he then let me into a fenced off construction area to see deer. Elsewhere, I had a farmer stop to ask me if my car was alright when I stopped to take a photo of a sunset. The best was when I stopped to help a deer tangled up in a fence, and a man in a business suit stopped to help and even got his shoes muddy! What a wonderful sense of humanity in Scotland! LOVELY GLEN VIDEO RUTH!

Leaving your Starlink with strangers reminded me how wonderful the Scots really are. I was in Edinburgh for the Fringe and Tattoo and had 2 events that showcased Scottish honesty. 1, I left my wallet in a taxi and when I called the company, the driver had it and brought it to me, intact. 2, I was queued for an ATM, and dropped my wallet. The girls behind me tapped me on the shoulder and handed it to me. Really heartwarming. I can't wait to get back. 💙💙

The Black Watch were independent companies raised because of the Jacobite uprising from highland clans loyal to the Whigs; hence their connection to Perthshire. It is no longer a regiment by itself, but is part of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, as the 3rd battalion (3 SCOTS). They have a long and storied history. They were known as the Royal Highland Regiment, and you'd find that Canada also has a regiment: the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada. It's quartered in Montreal. Canada has a number of Highland and Scottish military regiments.

Thank you for sharing about this! I was wondering!

  • @paulharvey9149

The Black Watch was the local regiment for Perthshire and Kinross, Ruth. Until the early 1960's they were based at the Queen's Barracks in Perth, but owing to various changes in the British Army's structure, they're now part of the Royal Regiment of Scotland. The Queen's Barracks name lives on in a suburb of Perth however, as an Army Cadets centre. If you do go to the museum at Balhousie Castle, be aware there is a very nice restaurant in the visitors centre that is sure to please your taste buds, but it does get very busy around lunchtimes, so you may wish to book a table in advance! You should also have time to visit the new Perth Museum in the compact city centre, too. The centrepiece of this is the Stone of Destiny, which is also known as the Stone of Scone, set within audio-visual presentations; and again you have to book a slot to see, this in advance. The museum is otherwise free to wander around at your leisure I found two hours was about right - prior to my slot of the Stone... Now that the museum has moved out, the former building in George Street is known as Perth Art Gallery, with both much-expanded facilities winning many awards and accolades already! There's much else to see and do around Perth in addition, so you may to consider spending a day or two around there, at some point. (Scone Palace, Kinnoull Hill, Huntingtower and Elcho Castles, The Bield at Blackruthven, Gloagburn Farm Shop at Tibbermore, St John's Kirk, The Salutation Hotel, Greyfriars Burial Ground, the City Mills - and there's an excellent local history and family research facility within the AK Bell Library - to name just a few!). Also, do go to Dunkeld and The Hermitage...!
Thank-you so much for the tour of Glen Lyon - I thnk I may have been there as a small child, and I was fortunate enough to revisit the Fortingall Yew again last year; but as I don't drive, it's unlikely I'll ever be there again and so, this serves as a lovely reminder. The vague memory I have is that it is that upper end that is the loveliest; as most visitors don't go there, but use the Ben Lawers mountain road to join or leave the lower part of the glen. I do come from Perth originally and so, it is possible that I may be biased; but out of all of the stunning Scottish Highlands, the (historic) Perthshire bits take some beating, if you ask me!

Just a word of warning. I've been up those Tayside Glens from Kirriemuir (JM Barrie) and you _do not_ want to go their in high summer! A hideous stream of bumper-to-bumper traffic upways and down. Sometimes there are limits to numbers of cars allowed through but nevertheless, it can be pretty unpleasant. Fortunately, a very short season and for eleven months of the year they are perfect realms of tranquillity and solitude.

SIS I don't know what to say. It is either the sawdust in my eyes or the BLACK WATCH MEMORIAL THAT CAUSED ME TO WEEP AGAIN. Damn it all. It reminds me so much of MRS. CASH a war bride with the maiden name of SCOTT. She had such a wonderful sense of humor and a twin sister who cut up the thirteen yard family tarton for her weading dress. She worked our local employment office and no one but me seamed to get her humor. They just wanted to get sighned up for unemployment and get out. She told me that anyone with the last name of SCOTT was related no matter what color they are. She also had a framed montage of a swatch of the actual tarton, Our coat of arms and a picture of the original home place. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING ME REMEMBER THESE THINGS. Please take GOOD CARE OF YOURSELF. AND THANKS FOR HELPING THOSE FOLKS. IT'S WEIRD HOW WE ALWAYS GET CALLED TO DO THESE THINGS. IT'S A BLESSING. GOOD LUCK.

Hello Ruth. You can actually continue past the power station and you arrive very close to the village of Killin. What a great gesture to help the stranded people and leave them with your Starlink kit. They must have thought their guardian angel had arrived. I love your videos.

Glen Lyon is possibly my favourite glen. It's a hidden Glen. From Fortingall the road forces it's way past the guardian mountains, then opens up in to a lovely fertile valley. I was there 3 weeks ago and I'm currently wearing my Glen Lyon Tea room T-shirt. I won't say where in the Glen I saw this, but I watched an osprey fishing in the river. From Bridge of Balgie, there's a side road that leads over a pass between the Ptarmigan ridge and Ben Lawers, it's a spectacular road and passes a very photogenic series of waterfalls, with a new path making access easier.
Thank you for rescuing the stranded travellers. Last week one of my fuel injectors failed and I was stranded on the side of Loch Awe
While you're in Aberfeldy you should go up the Birks, especially in Autumn for the tree colours, at the head of the walk is one of the UK's best waterfalls, further along Loch Tay, at Acharn, is another spectacular waterfall.

@@ruthaisling I've got a wife and 2 children now, none of whom have ever been to Scotland. They've missed out! One day we'll make it back 😊. Love your videos, and I went onto your website. I saw that you have an interest in eco-living and tiny homes. If you ever watch videos on TH-cam yourself, can I recommend taking a look at Tiny Cabin Life (if you're not already aware of it..)? Hey there Ruth!
Just to verify time lines on the weather,I'm 57 and I have never known a summer as wet,and at times cold as this.
A few folks I know are a bit older than me, and they likewise don't recall the weather being like this.
Stunning views Ruth, and fantastic intel as usual! (You're a star Ruth) 🙂
The church looks amazing with those hills around.
WOW and that home stretch run through the glen is amazing indeed.
And bless you for helping those folks that were stranded.
God bless and much ♥to you.

What a beautiful area. Stunning villages & scenery. I'm 10 minutes into the video as I write this but Ruth, you just made me laugh out loud.....
It's of course true that much of Scotland has had a very wet summer, but to hear this the day after my Sussex village almost flooded due to monsoon-esque style rain last night, made me chuckle. Of course, down here we get way less rain than Scotland, but the timing of that comment on the video released the day after what I just experienced showed that somebody upstairs has a sense of humour. Keep up the great work, and stay dry.....

I have watched many *_"Itchy Boots"_* videos where our intrepid Dutch adventure motorcyclist Noraly gets herself into a tight or dangerous situation far from regular transport or assistance. And then out of the blue a team of doctors arrive just by happenstance on their way to start duty at a remote hospital (she'd broken her collarbone etc), or a guy on a motorbike carrying a chainsaw just happens to arrive at the point where Noraly's remote hillside trail is blocked by a huge fallen tree.
It was fascinating to see the "other side of the narrative" where our intrepid Vlogger/Adventurer becomes the rescuer with *_exactly_* the right equipment needed to get the stranded family out of their predicament. 😅 Greetings from Chiang Mai

My recollection of Aberfeldy and the surrounding area is in the 1960's our school organised camping at a place called Dalguise runs along the River Tay, it even snowed one year when I was there and you had to make do with straw bags under your sleeping bag. They were called a palliasse. You did well helping the people in the broken down car! Kind Regards Crawford
